Escaped Convict

The rain beat down harder as a shady figure ran through the streets of Era, with a second man hot on his tail. “There’s no escape! Slow down now and turn yourself in!” Quinton yelled out at the man in front of him, a recently escaped convicted. “N-Never!” It was all the man would shout back as he rounded a corner. It had all started while Quinton happened to be passing through the town, on his way back from a job. As luck would have it, the convict had just broken out of jail as the guards ran into Quinton. They instantly recognized the guild symbol on his shoulder and requested his assistance, which he was glad to give to them. “Turn yourself in and maybe they’ll go easy on you!” Quinton kept pace with the surprisingly fast convict, not letting him out of sight for a second even as he tried to duck into an alley.

The man seemed desperate as he threw several garbage cans down in the way, attempting to slow down his purser. Normally, the jump would have been a breeze for the fairly athletic swordsman, but with the added obstacle of the rain, he had lost his grip and stumbled, crashing into the cans. Letting out a painful grunt, Quinton did his best to shrug the landing off, kicking one of the cans out of the way in some frustration as he dashed towards the still escaping convict. “You’re not getting away from me!” The man had bought himself a little more time, but Quinton was quickly making it up from the small bit of pent up anger for falling over. “L-Leave me alone damn it!” His voice had been drowned up out from the roaring rain and crack of thunder, but it wasn’t like it was going to do anything to slow Quinton down.

The man made a quick turn and felt himself slip, stumbling as he slowed himself down, letting Quinton catch back up. Quinton was so close on his tail that he could hear the man spouting out the same line over and over, cussing as he tried to run harder, slowly pulling away. The man was becoming desperate as he took a chance, running straight at a wall before propelling himself up an astonishing distance and scrambling onto the roof. Quinton had slide to a stop at the jump, a bit awestruck at how high the man just jumped. He knew that there was no way he could follow him up there, but that wasn’t going to slow him down. He’d have to act fast as he sprinted through a nearby alleyway, trying his best to track down the main by the sound of him jumping from roof to roof. “Where does he think he’s going…”

After thinking he had finally lost the mage, the convict dropped off of the roof, thinking that he was safe at last. “Just gotta…. Lay low… for just a bit…” He panted as he searched around, looking for a decent spot to get out of sight for a while. “T-this outta do.” He began to press up against the door to a wood shop, pulling out the same lock pick he had used to get out of jail, attempting to pick the lock. Just as he heard the click of the door, he could hear something else. Behind the patter of rain was something else. With a turn, he stared in fright to see Quinton charging at him, full speed. Panicked, he attempted to slip into the shop and lock the door behind him, but was too slow as Quinton barged through the door, knocking the man to the ground. “Like I said, you’re not getting away from me.” Quinton stood over the top of the man, having caught him.

The man had lost, and he knew it. He began to tear up as Quinton grabbed him by the collar and pulled him up to his feet “Come on, at least have some dignity.” The man couldn’t stop himself, and that’s when he started to bed. “P-please… I-I have money! Please! You can have as much as you want!” Quinton wasn’t interested in any of his crying pleas, or that was until his newest plea. “P-please… I-it’s my daughter! I-I just want to see her… She was born while I was in jail… P-Please…” Quinton stood quietly as he heard what the man had said, before shoving him out into the rain. “Go on… After you see your daughter I’m taking you back to jail, and don’t try running again.” The rest of the time had gone by quietly, as the rain let up on the two in the middle of the small escort mission. After seeing his daughter and getting a chance to spend some quality time with her, he gladly walked back out to Quinton and was brought back to the guards to serve the rest of his sentence.
