Escaped Convict (Job/Solo)

"...do you understand, lad?" came a question from a wizened member of the Magic Council. He was your typical old Mage-looking guy what with the huge gray beard and old wooden staff. The two people he was talking to on the other hand, weren't your typical...well...anything. The first one was a disgruntled looking youth with blueish-black hair, short in stature and adorned in a simple black tee, khaki shorts, and straw sandals. The second was...a cat, mostly black with a white belly and cheeks. "Oh, I understand alright." came the boy's response, a frown painfully apparent on his face. "You guys can't do your job so you need me to do it for you." The Councilman furrowed his brow a bit, but held his tongue. The boy--while blunt, and quite rude--wasn't entirely wrong. It was their fault the prisoner had gotten free, and the other Rune Knights were all out on important assignments so they'd been forced to enlist the aid of local Guilds to assist in this matter.

Blue turned his back on the elderly man and gestured towards his cat. "So much for the all-important Magic Council. C'mon, Luck let's go." His feline companion wrinkled his nose slightly before throwing his hands in the air. Two angelic wings sprouted magically from its back, shaking some feathers loose in the process. And without wasting anymore time, he latched on to the back of his companion's shirt and took to the sky with incredible speed. The Councilman simply stroked his beard as he watched the duo soar off into the distance. "Kid's got spunk, I'll give him that. We'll have to keep an eye on that one..."

Wind rushed past the two as they flew over the town of the Era. They had to stay pretty close to the ground if they were going to have any chance of spotting their target. Luckily, the mountain headquarters of the Magic Council was the perfect vantage point to begin their search. It was probably the only thing they were good for at all...according to Blue, of course! "Don't you think you were too hard on the Council guy, Blue?" Lucky wasn't the biggest fan of the geezers that sat on the Council, but his partner seemed especially harsh on the old guy. Blue scoffed, continuing to scan the streets as he replied. "No way. Those guys sit around all day and play at politics instead of actually doing anything useful." Lucky only gave a slight, "Hmm..." as a response, doing his best to think on the young Mage's words and look around as well. So far? No luck. "They love censoring people and barking orders at us, but they can't even keep a guy like this locked up, let alone take care of any Dark Guilds that are out terrorizing people." In all honesty? Blue didn't have anything personal against the Magic Council. He did however hate overbearing authority figures, and they just so happened to be the epitome of that.

"Blue." said Lucky, hoping to get the boy's attention. But he was too busy coming up with reasons he disliked their "client". "Not to mention they crack down on Fairy Tail all the time. For property damage, of all things. It's not our faults we break a few windows doing their job for them..." His arms were folded and a frown was on his face as he hung vertical in the air, which had to look ridiculous to anyone on the ground. But then again...he was being held up by a cat with angel wings, so I doubt people were going to be interested in his posture. "And what about those Rune Knights? Bunch of self-righteous, stodgy-" "BLUE!" the Exceed shouted, prompting his partner to glance upwards at him. But before he could say anything Lucky gestured towards the street below.

A man with black hair was walking along the street, glancing over his shoulder every so often. Nothing particularly noteworthy right? Except for the fact that he was wearing the standard jumpsuit all magical prisoners were forced to wear. "HEY, YOU!" came a shout from above, causing the man and everyone near him to turn their eyes skyward.

It goes without saying that more than a few jaws dropped...

Blue pointed a finger at the escapee and glared at him. "Stop right there! And don't bother running 'cause you won't get away fr-" before he could even finish his overlong completely necessary spiel, the guy turned on his heel and began sprinting in the opposite direction. "Wha-...wait, damnit!" Lucky sighed and shook his head. But he couldn't help a small smile that began to form on his face. It seemed like Blue was back to his usual self...for the most part, anyway. So with a flap of his wings, the Exceed took of and the duo gave chase. They'd found their man!

"He's fast!" Lucky narrated, following behind the runaway convict with Blue in tow. The Exceed wasn't wrong, this guy was seriously booking it! For being a prisoner he sure had some crazy cardio. It was too bad for him that two Mages were after him, and one was a flying cat, or else he might've gotten away easy. "Yeah but we're faster." Blue quipped, pointing a finger forward. "Full speed ahead!" and with that, his feline friend picked up the pace and they began gaining on the convict.

Their target rapidly made his way through the crowded Era streets as his pursuers followed close behind. There were people everywhere, so it wasn't like he could just loose a Spell at the guy to slow him down. "Blue..." said a concerned Lucky, trying once again to get his partner's attention in vain. Instead the boy cupped his hands around his mouth and shouted, "Quit being a pain in the ass and stop already!" to no avail, of course. A sweatdrop formed on the back of Lucky's head. "Bluuuuuee..." It was clear by now that something was amiss, but the brash young Mage seemed oblivious. He held out one palm, and smashed his other balled-up fist into it upside down, before bringing both of his hands to rest by his hip, still in the odd formation. "Get me a little closer, Luck. Then we'll nail hi-" but before he could get the words out, a noticeable magic POOF! sounded out and a sudden feeling of weightlessness enveloped both of them. A quick glance upwards from Blue revealed something that no one ever wanted to see while flying through the air at high speeds.

Lucky's wings were gone.

"WAAAAH!!!"
"WOOOAH!!!"

Two separate shouts rang out through the air as the duo hurtled towards the ground at an incredible speed. And when they finally hit? BOOM! A huge cloud of dust shot upwards into the air. Several startled gasps could be heard from the people in the general vicinity. And when the dust finally settled, Blue and Lucky lay sprawled out over the wreckage of what once was a wooden food stall. The owner (or ex-owner, rather) could only stand there mortified, mouth agape. Oh and next to the duo of stall-wreckers? Their culprit of course! Just as dazed and confused as the pair of Fairy Tail Mages.

"Keep it movin', pal." The irritated young Mage spat at the convict, who was trudging in front of the duo. He was now the proud owner of a pair of shiny new handcuffs made out of ice. "How'd you do that, Blue?" Lucky asked, dumbfounded by the intricacy of the creation. Blue had done a lot of other things with ice, but never constructed an actual functioning item of it before! "New Magic I learned." He replied, a slight smirk taking hold on his face. "Not bad, huh?" His Exceed partner nodded, his usual smile returning to him. This was almost immediately replaced by an expression of sheer confusion. "Wait...how'd you learn it?" A justified question, considering a good percent of Magic needs to be taught in some way, shape, or form. "Some books I found at the library in Magnolia. Pretty interesting stuff, actually." The temporary trio continued to walk as they spoke. "...when?" asked the Exceed, causing Blue to shoot him a curious glance. "Yesterday. Why?"

"WHAAAAAT?!"

Upon further questioning, Blue revealed to his friend that he did infact learn a new Magic overnight. Lucky was beyond shocked. In a land of full of all sorts of demons and spells and mythical beings, teaching yourself a new form of Magic in a single night almost unheard of. He didn't have everything down of course, and he was still getting the hang of molding his magic into more complex creations. But everything he'd demonstrated thus far showed a remarkable grasp of the fundamentals of Ice-Make, with signs of comprehension of even some of the more advanced parts of it. He'd taken to it like a natural. And as for their convict friend? Well it would appear that he just sprung himself loose so he could check on his family. Blue and Lucky (being the sympathetic guys they are) understood completely and even took him to go check on his wife and young daughter. He was a decent guy, and the duo even promised they'd check up on his family for him whenever they were in Era. This type of cooperation with a magical prisoner was...unusual to say the least, but they didn't seem to care much. After all, they did their job. Who was the Magic Council to say who they could and couldn't be friends with? "You're welcome." replied Blue to the non-existent "thank you" the Councilman gave. Without even giving the elderly man any time to respond, he turned and began making his way towards the nearest train station with Lucky following close behind. "Send the payment to Fairy Tail addressed to Blue." And with that? They were gone.
