OOC events

I noticed that there was a few OOC events in the past, before I ever joined, and believe we should have those kind of events more often. It wouldn't be hard to pull off and, with the proper support from interested parties, would be easy to setup and manage.

Tournaments with TCG's that can be played online, or PC games that are free to play. Chess tournaments, dueling games, etc. We could have prizes for the top players, or have a prize pool where all players pay a fee to participate in the game.

I would gladly set up a few of these kind of events, with Mod approval, if enough people are interested in these kinds of things happening.

I'm all good with this it just seems to come down to player activity.

I'd be up for another yugioh tournament. Or perhaps we could have some cards against humanity games.

There is also stuff like team fortress 2 which whilst they aren't free(I thnik) are very very cheap

I like this idea. The only thing I think we should stay away from when it comes to this is IC rewards like weapons, pets, etc.

Board Game Online is another viable option for a tournament since a good chunk of people have been known to gather in the chat box and play together (although it's been a couple weeks). An OOC thread game of some kind would be another good choice.

As long as OOC events give OOC rewards I am for this. But I am completely against the idea of OOC action netting IC gain.

Well the thing about OOC tournies and stuff, It can be anything that there is interest in. How about this, a subforum is made where people send an application to a staff member to start a new thread in the forum.

So for instance someone is interested in getting league groups going, they go to the application thread, fill out a template such as the game they wish to have the staff make a thread of (only reason to consolidate threads and not have 4 going on of the same exact thing). So then members can discuss the game there, can tell if enough people are interested in games or even events. Once they feel that they have enough interest or if the staff sees that a good amount of people play it, feelers could be sent out to the staff (if the members wish to start an event) or to the members (if the staff wish to start something) to begin the process of making the event.

Even if no rewards are given, thats fine in my opinion for an OOC thing. With enough interest all that the staff need to do is make a global thread about the event to help bring attention to it by the members.


So in short, subforum to discuss games with each game having a single thread. If a game gets a large member base of interest, either the members or staff can go through the process of turning it into an ooc event. Once it is finalized, staff makes an announcement to help further bring site attention to it for those interested.

As for a type of OOC event we could do it so that everyone has the possibility of playing w/o missing out unless they chose not to. While this does eliminate things that require cost (because not everyone has money) this does include things like chess or checkers and stuff like said above that almost everyone knows how to play, or games (also said above) like cards against humanity that are extremely easy to learn. This way everyone has the chance of playing, it's free, and no one is excluded because "I don't know how to play this," or "I've never played it before." Because seriously... Am I the only one here who hasn't played League or TF/TF2? Anyways as for an idea for those mobile users (like myself) who has extremely little computer access and stays online on mobile 98% of the time, we could also do something like getting a game and seeing who can advance as far as possible within a short period of time, but it would have to be a game no one has played before to avoid unfair advantages, and the ability to tell that would be extremely hard to do. So that was my input on mobile users, sorry I can't help you all! =^_~=
Anyways yeah, so that stuff happened. As for prizes I don't think we should get IC prizes for winning an OOC tournament, but we could have something like we get from the CB events like some EXP (which counts as IC but don't kill me k? They do that stuff.) or Achievements and stuffs like that. We could have monetary output, like Jewles and stuffs. Otherwise I can't think of much more OOC prizes.

I see most people are okay with events, but there's plenty of ideas about the rewards.

As it's mostly OOC, I'd be fine with mostly OOC rewards. Small things, like a special achievement, or even something as big as a person volunteering to make a special Sig/Avy for the winner. Could also earn a title that only one person could hold at a time; Chessmaster for example.

While we don't have to give away IC stuff, since a lot disagree with it, there's always the chance of entry fees/prize pools for 1st-3rd of certain ones. Such as card games or chess. This would mean using the economy to drive people to certain ones, in case they need more motivation other than to 'just play.'

And the events don't always HAVE to be something impossible for people that use mostly mobile. A simple riddle game where everyone PM's their answer and only a certain amount of correct answers continue to the next round. Stuff that can be done in posts or using a limited amount of data.

I did have a DND game running, but due to timezones and stuff its really difficult.

I suppose if we did it sitewise and had it set up we could just have one person as DM and then we have the post order as:

DM
Player 1
Dm
player 2
Dm
Player 3
etc

And as its posted on a thread you wouldn't all need to be on at the same time.

League and Dota and other MOBA's have a very steep learning curve from what i've seen and played. It seems an odd choice when there are many other games that don't require as much of a learning curve nor do they require approximately 10 players (I could be wrong, but I think league and dota is 5 v5, possible with a 3v3 alternative?). Though I admit that playing with friends on it rather than randoms online sounds good purely because you likely wouldn't be dicks if I made a mistake lol. Plus with skype chat/steam chat advice could be given to the less experienced players.

Yugioh and other online card games/board games(including chess, chequers etc) sound fine. They generally aren't too steep a learning curve. I wonder if there are anime trivia games that are multiplayer. That would be cool. Particularly if we could find a fairy tail focused one. Or if someone was up for being a quizmaster we could perhaps have a fairy tail rp quiz on skype or something.

As for rewards an acheivement is normally the thing though creating even more acheivements (have you seen how many there are already?) is a bit of a pain. My initial thought is VIP items like glows and sparkles, but that would undermine the vip section (maybe the number one player can win something like this?)

Another option is what I like to call the points system. We have several games. The top three players get a number of points. These points can be saved up to purchase things. These would be OOC things like cbox icons or glows. Possibly(though a weird one) a custom smiley in the cbox? Perhaps these points could instead be traded for cosmic coins (like five first place wins allows you to purchase five CC).

Either that or we have gambling to some extent. People pay a jewel based entry fee and based on where they come they get their entrance fee multiplied by a certain amount (which could include multipying it by 0 so they get no money back). People could also bet on who they think is going to win and initially this would have low odds like 2 to 1 on everyone....eventually from seeing games won we could work out actual odds to make a proper jewel gambling system.

There's so many people who plays League on the site. The ones who don't are not required to play if they don't wish, the ones who do, joins, simple as that. Just to be fair for the ones who don't, we could have tournaments of games like Yu-Gi-Oh or something like that? Cause that's the only board game I know apart from Cards Against Humanity. .w. OCC rewards? I'm not sure what one would give for OCC rewards lmao.

Well, yes, there are quite a bit of people who play league on the site. Though, you need to think about servers as well, we can't all play on the same one, at least not on equal footing. Also, there's the issue of players who have played league longer and as Zack stated, it has a steep learning curve. So basically, a tournament, would turn into the fight of the people who have played league the longest and have had a lot of experience with it. Newer players would most likely just get stomped by them, which wouldn't be fun for the newer player or the older player. Though just playing a game with either 5 premade or even just a 5v5 for fun, is a very good idea and i'd be all for that, but it can't be made into a competition, as no equal footing.

Though, Cards Against Humanity, Yu-Gi-Oh, Board Game Online and many more, are great examples of what could be used. Though a practice game for people who haven't played them, would still be needed.

And the rewards, honestly, the best system of rewards is what Zack said. Tho the gambling system seems a little hard to do imo and could net massive gains IC, if done wrongly.

I'm honestly not sure how someone could have fun, when they mostly just see the death screen, yes, it can happen. Most people can have fun even then, but if there's a player, who has played League for 4 years, going up against someone, who i like only level 5, it will be horribly one-sided. This isn't about winning, but having fun. Having fun, while mostly dead all the time, is just staring at the screen. But matching people remotely with similar ranks/levels is a good way to do it, as it will be more fun for them as well. Equal fights are always more fun than stomps.
