    Spoiler:

    ’This place…is depressing.’

A few small voices in the back of the girl’s head advised her to turn around, to leave this wretched and cursed place alone, but scarier than the looks of these woods was how easy those voices were to ignore. An indescribable feeling forced the short mage here in the first place like the occasional instinct she couldn’t ignore, except stronger. Absentmindedly a hand reached into the side satchel to extract the beaten and torn journal, sad green eyes cast down in morbid curiosity. Out of all the fictional stories she read, Mao preferred those that ended happily for the main characters because it elicited some belief in hope.

This journal drained any such notions.

It detailed a poor woman’s descent into madness and potential possession with her helpless lover forced to watch. Even the promised aid proved fruitless - and if the last entry was to be believed, turned deadly towards the man of God. What happened to the owner of this forgotten diary? ’Then again, what of the other group?’ The thought occurred as her hand brushed another foreign object in her bag, a lacrima she’d covered in an old handkerchief as the blood refused to be cleaned. Neither owner could be found unfortunately as the bunny-eared girl tried on the off chance. Between one of the offices of the Rune Knights – who were just as clueless as she on the whereabouts of Jacob Lars – and the empty, last reported residence of one “Samuel Martin” the woman had little to go on aside from the fact one man needed to report back to his superiors and the other hadn’t picked up any of his newspapers or mail in some time.

More worrisome from the aforementioned facts: who sent her these items?

Why her? Before today Mao didn’t know the names “Jacob Lars” or “Samuel Martin,” never mind this “Mary” who captivated Mr. Martin’s heart and life. What became of her in the end? Did she, or the demon inhabiting her – if it was a demon – harm the other men? What of the squad lead by the lieutenant? Whoever sent the items, their handwriting was definitely not the same as the journal so it couldn’t have been the unfortunate lover, yet it only evoked the slightest hint of curiosity from her and for whatever reason Mao couldn’t be bothered to question it nearly as much as the items.

’This is starting to feel like a trap…and yet,’ almost inaudibly the mage sighed, ’I can’t bring myself to turn back now. If any answers are to be found, it’ll be somewhere in here.’ She couldn’t even ask a single guild member for help on the matter, the notion beyond grasp inexplicably. ’It’s probably best not to bother someone else anyhow. Some answers can only be found alone.’ So why did that feel so lonely?

Something snapped her out of the momentary trance, the sharp sound of a twig cracking in half caused the girl to turn around…and blink. ”What…? Who…? Why…?” So many specific questions in so little time, but if Mao had to choose which one to have answered first it’d probably be the last as it felt the most important. Though “How” now sounded like a good choice too, curious how the two men stumbled upon her in the first place.

A certain gray haired summoner was walking through what used to be his happy place, alongside a hooded friend of his. Dmitry Kazakov had come to this forest because he sensed a disturbing presence from it's direction. Outside the forest, he bumped into Seikatsu, who just happened to be in the area. The two mages agreed that the place demanded closer inspection and entered the woods together. Dmitry was disgusted by what he felt in this place. What he saw wasn't any less disturbing. The place had taken on an eerie form, disturbing even to those without Dmitry's sensitivity. Something in this place was causing the spirits to stir about. The spirit mage was sorely offended by what had happened to one of his favorite getaways. True, most people were already frightened by this place, but to Dmitry it was one of the last places so close to nature.

"What happened here...?" He muttered out loud. Whatever caused this was likely still here and Dmitry intended to find it. He could feel it out there, waiting. But what was it waiting for? It couldn't possibly know they were coming...could it? Dmitry's face soured as they continued, until something caught his attention. He could hear someone moving about rather loudly. The mage looked to where the sounds were coming from and saw a figure.

"Get down." He whispered to Seikatsu. As the two crouched down, they followed the person for a bit, staying hidden until Dmitry notice a familiar pair of ears on top of their head. The ears were akin to that of a rabbit. What the...why is she...? Dmitry thought, realizing who this was. He moved towards the girl, stopped behind her, and deliberately stepped on a rather loud twig to let her know just how vulnerable she truly was. Dmitry then crossed his arms, furious over this girl's presence in such a place, as she turned around in surprise and fear.

"Damnit, Mao! What the Hell do you think you're doing here?!"

Seikatsu was flying overhead, examining a strange phenomenon that he'd noticed from his tree home all the way on the far end of hargeon, between the Sky Tower, Hargeon and Peace village. The soul wizard had saw a dark type of aura emanating from the Spooky Forest, and his disdain for excess spiritual activity cause him to go to take a closer look. From overhead, he could see a very familiar soul down below. A certain grey haired wizard, being followed by a fantastic, large wolf's soul. Seikatsu landed to inquire why Mr. Kazakov had come to such a location to be informed that he enjoyed the energy of the Spooky Forest. A sentiment Seikatsu shared with the summoner, that was one of the reasons why Seikatsu was alright to join him on this 'leisurely stroll through the woods' to reveal the cause to such desecration of natural land.
Upon arriving at the Spooky forest, Seikatsu was nearly blinded as he was able to see the spiritual activity of the area, and had no choice but to keep his eyes closed while he walked. Seikatsu had no problem traversing the land without seeing the world around him. During his training as a child, his meditation taught him to see the world through the eyes of the land itself. Seikatsu took a deep breath and relaxed his mind, allowing himself to connect with the mind of mother nature. He felt the winds as it blew through the trees, he smelled the corruption of the land and resisted all urges to cease this connection. Seikatsu began following the grey haired summoner through to forest until Mr. Kazakov said "Get down." At this time, Seikatsu crouched down low. He heard the summoner mutter something about the figure that he was seeing, and then followed him to the figure. Mr. Kazakov purposefully startled the girl as a lesson to be less oblivious to her surroundings. Seikatsu could sense her presence, he was able to feel where she was and had no issues knowing the basic structure of her body but he had no means of seeing her as normal people would. Seikatsu kept his eyes closed and introduced himself.
"Greetings, I am N-" Seikatsu caught himself quickly.
"Seikatsu of the Tribe of Souls.
A pleasure to meet you miss."
    he said politely.

Seikatsu was able to feel the air flowing around her, and felt the energy from her audio lacrima. The soul wizard respectfully asked for the lacrima, and not the note she also had. After listening to the recording, Seikatsu felt that he knew what had happened here. After listening to the recording, Seikatsu felt infinitely more uncomfortable being around people here. After listening to the recording, Seikatsu... wanted to leave. If this power was the power he thought it to be, then Mr. Kazakov, and the girl before him could be in a great deal of danger by having Seikatsu along.
Seikatsu asked them to allow him to stay in the back of the group, feeding them a lie that he was afraid of the area and would prefer the stronger willed go in front.
'Don't worry so much my dear.
You and I had our agreement.'
    Altsoba said in Seikatsu's head.
"It's not you I'm worried about here..." Seikatsu said in a very hushed tone, forgetting that Altsoba and him could now communicate without the need for verbal exchange.

Dmitry’s yelling only caused Mao to take a step back as her ears swiveled down, eyes large as she was ultimately unprepared for the chastising. What the hell was she doing here? What the hell was he doing here? She might’ve asked too if not for the distraction of meeting another person, mentally pondering if the man also belonged to Lamia Scale as so many people she met to date were, but didn’t ask in the end. ’Tribe of Souls?’ she mentally questioned, curious, but nodded her head at the mysterious fellow, ”A pleasure, I am Mao Nakiri.”

The new fellow surprised the woman, inquiring about the objects in her bag. ’How…?’ A suspicion grew, figuring the man must hold a similar sensitivity to spirits as Dmitry did, or at least she wouldn’t be surprised as the normally clueless girl managed to sense some dark foreboding sensation not only in this place as a whole, but bound to the same objects. However with only the degree of “bad” she could only imagine what they must be sensing here…

Listening to the messages for the umpteenth time, Mao sighed. Were the people even still alive? Would they at least be able to find some remains to offer a mild comfort to the family of knowing, rather than keeping them locked in eternal mystery? The damnation of a hope that would never come to fruition…’Surely a sad fate for any family.’ Again, by the end, she pondered over the repetition of the letter “six” as it’d also appeared in the diary like some strange, strange omen. What would inspire such a glitch anyhow? She knew some people considered six to be an unlucky number, but other cultures chose other numbers like four…so it struck her as a bit silly.

It would seem either way, any attempts to keep any bit of this to herself would be impossible, now accompanied by the two gentlemen even as Seikatsu took the lead. If anything, it was a bit relieving to know she wouldn’t be alone – more so if one accounted for their spirits, assuming Seikatsu must have some sort of familiar not unlike Hati. ”If I may…” Mao spoke up, gaze shifting between the two a little, ”well…I suppose there must be a strong spiritual pressure that brought you two here? Is there anything you can tell me about it? I’m afraid…I’m not so ‘spiritually aware.’” She sighed a little at the end, unsure if she wished she were or glad she wasn’t. This place felt a bit oppressive as it was, like some perfect horror story setting – and to a few unfortunate folk, it already was a horror setting – but was it like that all the time? Surely some dark and creepy woods were merely that: dark (and subsequently creepy to some people). This place adamantly refused to let the sun shine through the foliage, and perhaps a slight mist however when the mage knew for a fact it’d been ridiculously sunny before entering.

’I suppose it can’t be a “dark” entity if Mr. Sun could blast through it…’

Dmitry recoiled when Mao's ears drooped; that always made him feel like he just kicked a puppy. He didn't mean to hurt her feelings, but the fact that she was in this place upset the hell out of him. Whatever was in this place was incredibly dangerous. The very land around them was petrified as a result. Dmitry himself couldn't feel comfortable, as he could feel it swirling around him, perverting this place. He'd felt a similar presence coming from the cursed lands. That recording didn't help either, as it confirmed his suspicions and added new ones. The young medium looked around and saw nothing but fog. Still, he could feel it. That creature hadn't made itself known yet, but it would. He decided to keep close to Mao, as she was the only one here who couldn't sense that thing. That, and he felt an overwhelming urge to keep her safe.

When she spoke up about the presence that brought them there, Dmitry decided not to tell her everything just yet. She would only panic if she knew what was out there.

"You can feel it right?" He began with the basics. "A foreboding sense of dread? That's your own sixth sense. All living things have one. Most are too dull to be consciously aware of. As you might guess, mine is abnormally strong. Seikatsu, on the other hand, has a way to convert this sense into optical information, allowing him to circumvent the strength of it. We both noticed what was going on here and came out to investigate." Dmitry paused for a bit. "Look..." He got out. "I, uh...I'm sorry about...you know...yelling at you. I was just...worried about you is all." The socially inexperienced mage struggled with the apology, not too sure of what to say, only that he needed to say something.

'Damn, but you're terrible at this.' He heard Hati say within his mind.

The three wizards continued further into the Spooky Forest when Mao, the small wizard who managed to throw Mr. Kazakov off, had inquired of Seikatsu and Dmitry's presence here. Mr. Kazakov gave Mao the watered down version of it, but Seikatsu felt something stronger welling up within him. He felt the urge to fight, to kill, to destroy boiling within his body. Seikatsu's scar turned crimson a few times while he was facing away from the two as they spoke, thankfully they hadn't noticed.
After Mr. Kazakov had gave his admirable, crappy apology to the small wizard Seikatsu walked closer to the two of them. Seikatsu slowly removed the hood of his cloak revealing a demonic sigil that was burned into the area just under his eye. The scar flickered crimson for a second or two before going away.
"I was a seven hour flight from this location when I saw it giving off a type of... aura." Seikatsu informed Mao.
Seikatsu scar began burning as it lit up bright crimson. Seikatsu grabbed the scar and winced.
"I'll not allow you to enter this land alone.
Mr. Kazakov's mind is not entirely fixated on this land.
My apologies Ms. Nakiri, but you are ill prepared to suffer the strikes of this area."
    Seikatsu stated.
"The power of this land is so great, that I cannot see.
As Mr. Kazakov had explained, I can see souls. The souls are here, surrounding us, engulfing my vision. It will be some time, but my sight will return once I adjust. It is as turning on a bright light after several hours in a dark room."
Seikatsu informed Mao while keeping his eyes closed.
Seikatsu's scar glowed again, just faintly this time. However, it didn't stop glowing.
Seikatsu pulled a ring out of his cloak and put it on. The glow of his scar grew ever fainter, and Seikatsu's pain subsided.
"This item on my hand will limit my magical capability, but also keep you both safer." Seikatsu said with a solemn look in his dull, dead, purple eyes. Making sure to specifically say 'safer' and not promise it would keep them 'safe' as that was a lie.
"I shall provide you with this warning Ms. Nakiri.
    Stay with Mr. Kazakov."
Seikatsu stated plainly while looking at Dmitry.
Seikatsu knew Mao would want to know why, she would probably get lost in thought from wondering about it, and should a fight occur in this land, it could be disasterous.
Seikatsu took a breath and mustered the ability to tell someone else his... issue.
In a calm, level headed voice Seikatsu began explaining.
"I am the Chief of the Tribe of Souls.
Me, my daughter, and possibly one other are the last of our people.
As a child, I entered a demonic contract with a woman appropriately named Altsoba.
She is a wrath demon, her title is the Demon of War.
In exchange for magical power, I was forced to kill my tribe."
Seikatsu said, trying to keep it brief.
"I'll skip the fun details of what I saw and did...
To this day, in areas where spiritual activity are highest,
There runs a great chance of my soul being taken over by my demon.
As we speak I feel her will ripping at my mind.
Should I be consumed by this demon...
Should I find myself unable to resist the taint of this land..."

Seikatsu looked Dmitry in the eyes.
"You are to kill me, and take my body to my daughter." Seikatsu said with a serious expression.
Seikatsu awaited for the two to begin walking, and he made sure he was behind them. Seikatsu felt Lisa tightening her wrap around his arm. Something was here, Lisa sensed it, Seikatsu could see it... everywhere.

To see and feel what they felt…it intrigued her further, but the woman wouldn’t press for details. For every plus there was usually an equally great negative waiting in the wings. If she could feel even a hint of it, then it truly must be blindsiding for the duet, going so far as to be physically blinding for the cloaked man she’d find out soon. As unwelcoming as this place truly was though, the fear trying to lap at one’s skin, Mao felt mildly blessed that it couldn’t quite reach her. ’And yet, it’s not necessarily good if I can ignore it and continue walking into this den of woes, is it?’

Almost as surprising as the yell – and yet not enough to warrant another ear flick because the volume wasn’t nearly as great – Dmitry apologized for the earlier actions. She…almost wanted to laugh, the bit from before more startling than anything. The sentiment was appreciated, and the short woman offered him a small smile before they were approached by the temporary leader. The picture he painted…was even more unsettling than before. ’Seven hour flight? And he could still see the aura…’ Whatever malevolent forces laid waiting within the woods proved more alarming by the moment, even if it failed to register visibly on the girl. If anything, she wanted to see and understand it more than before…

She didn’t become offended when Seikatsu stated plain and matter-of-factly that she was ill prepared. It was true, horribly so in fact. Even if the negative emotions could be kept at bay, that wouldn’t physically protect her from anything, and if this thing could be seen in sorts from such a distance, then logically she should leave.

But it was too late for that.

Summarized as it was, the story proved tantalizing even as the curious girl accepted that “now was not the time for questions.” Every person she met summoned more questions than answers, but for now the mystery of the missing members of the Rune Knights and civilians prevailed as number one priority. Except to worry about both the malevolent presence and a companion? This day might prove relentless at every turn. ’So if we’re to be cautious, why are we now in front?’

A little further they walked, the sound of a tree limb or two snapping their main music aside from the crunching of dirt under foot. Perhaps she shouldn’t have underestimated the spirits however, not having dabbled in too many paranormal books. Before meeting Dmitry she’d never really given them a thought, and even after the current reading list was a little long…but after this journey the little bunny might make an exception. The fact that a rock from the dark, dank mists came shooting at her head wasn’t a surprise: anything could be hiding just out of sight. A quick tail swipe and the thing hit the ground with a small, dull “clack.” It was the sudden shove a second after the sneak attack that threw her right into her tall, gray-haired companion that completely threw Mao off as she sought to avoid taking Dmitry down with her.

    Unprepared indeed.

Dmitry had sensed them creeping up on the trio. He felt a presence appear right next to Mao and turned just in time to catch her as she was shoved in to him. While there was an odd warmth in his face after he caught the light girl, he shook off the thought and focused on the area around him. As he had forgotten that Mao was still in his arms, Dmitry's grip unconsciously tightened as he realized what exactly had visited them.

'Poltergeist...' Hati answered for him with disdain in his voice.

'I hate poltergeists...' Dmitry responded, sharing Hati's disdain and deepening his frown. He had encountered them before. Usually they were just nuisances, rather than an actual threat. However, in this place, even a nuisance could become a death sentence. Still, it seemed Mao was unharmed at the least. That sentiment was quickly erased as Dmitry could sense the poltergeist stirring up again. He quickly pulled her out of the way of a falling tree, the two of them hitting the ground with Mao on top and the trunk of said tree only inches away. Thankfully, Mao wasn't really heavy, even with the stuff she was carrying.

"You alright?" Dmitry asked her as he remained alert for more disturbances.

Seikatsu felt the wind rushing past a stone in the air as it whirled towards Mao, and then the impact of it hitting the floor shuddered through to Seikatsu's bare feet. Stopping in his tracks, Seikatsu waited as the creatures could be felt as they surrounded the trio, waiting for their targets to be unsuspecting.
'I think for now, your lack of eyesight might be an asset...' Altsoba said to Seikatsu.
"I concur." Seikatsu said out loud, still used to having to verbalize with her.
Seikatsu was waking behind the two for two reasons. So he could get away easily if he felt like his control was reaching its limits, and so he could ensure the safety of Mr. Kazakov. He held to care for Ms. Nakiri, but Dmitry was an asset, and someone he wanted to study. Seikatsu wished to learn his ways, his understanding of the soul, and his control over the many that surrounded him. Seikatsu had little concern for Ms. Nakiri's safety, as Dmitry seemed concerned enough for both of them combined.
'You think they look good together?' Altsoba asked Seikatsu.
'I have no opinion.' Seikatsu answered, finally remembering to think it and not say it.
A sudden force had knocked Mao right into Dmitry, throwing her balance off as she valiantly tried not to fall into the arms of her grey haired ally. A vein attempt, as the force was too great for her to resist and Dmitry was kind enough to catch her. Seikatsu felt the air around Dmitry's face had begun moving a bit faster, as though the heat from Dmitry's face had increased.
'Is he blushing?' Seikatsu thought to himself, truly annoyed that he couldn't see.
Seikatsu heard a crackling sound and immediate jumped into a sideways roll as the trunk of a tree had slammed down next to him. He quickly jumped over to ensure his comrades were not injured, only to find his senses to be too sharp. He could feel wind forming around a large lump, being depressed into the ground by a smaller lump. Seikatsu gave a smile to the two, as this was the perfect timing, as he looked Dmitry in the eyes.
"Should you wish Mr. Kazakov, I can press forwards to permit you and Ms. Nakiri some....
    Alone... time?"
    Seikatsu joked.
"Or perhaps the two of you are the type who desire to be viewed?" Seikatsu added.
The joke was broken by the feeling of something small, dense, round coming at Seikatsu quickly. Seikatsu put his hand out and caught it, being thankful that he felt it coming and didn't see it. He knew that with his eye sight gone, his body reverted to its primal state allowing him to react better. Should he have seen it coming, the rock would have seemed to slow down for a second before impacting his face. Seikatsu rolled the stone in his hand, feeling it around.
    "Poltergeists...." Seikatsu said calmly.
"But these are not a standard breed...." he added.
Seikatsu dropped the pebble and looked at the two wizards on the floor.
"If you two lovers are done mating, perhaps you would find it advisable to get away from these beings." Seikatsu gave as a final joke to the two.
"I assure you, they are quite different from your typical enraged ghost.
Trust my knowledge of the undead Mr. Kazakov, there are very few ghosts in the forest."
    Seikatsu said with ominous specificity.

Everything after the fall happened so fast. One moment Mao was pulled into Dmitry’s chest, held in a steadfast grip that left her a little worried when she might regain her freedom, and the next the world spun as they barrel rolled to safety. The tree gave a mighty crash, temporarily deafening Mao as a light spray of dust flew into the air to slowly resettle, and her eyes closed in an attempt to avoid the nuisance. At first hands braced against what initially the girl believed to be the ground only to realize it was something much softer. ”You all right?” The voice clinched it even as the other traveling companion mentioned giving them some…alone time.

Rather than rise to the bait, Mao nodded to the silver haired man slightly trapped beneath her, ”I’m fine.” Thanks to the added brace and pressure of her tail as a third foot, she was able to grab one of Dmitry’s hands and yank the two back to their feet. Back to standing, she let go to lightly dust herself off, sighing a slight bit: it seemed this venture would be like walking in a pitch black cave without a torch. ’They likely suffered a similar fate. Did they fall prey to one of these dark spirits like this?’ A quick glance at the fallen tree confirmed the thought, ’A very unpleasant way to go if they did.’

Pressing on, Mao wondered a little at the other man’s words, curious on the difference between the various spiritual beings. If poltergeists were the ones trying to cause physical harm, then were ghosts merely entities who had merely yet to pass onto the afterlife? Were they people who couldn’t move on yet for one reason or another? If the others who’d passed through this forest died, could it be possible for either man to pick out their spirit from this mixing pot of mayhem? ’I suppose the darker beings would prove more prevalent though…’

It became harder to concentrate as a dim echo of footsteps could be heard, Mao’s pace slowing for a moment in the hopes of locating the source. Twitch as they might however, neither ear could pinpoint it before the sound vanished, it merely coming from some direction on the left. And yet, even when her pace returned to normal a few rhythmic steps could be heard on the right, beyond her gray-haired companion. It was…frustrating to say the least. Perhaps it should’ve been a bit scary, but so far she’d been more annoyed by the antics of the otherworld here than afraid. If anything, it was a bit like being able to disassociate herself with the emotion as they continued with that small presence attempting to get someone’s goat. ’Could be worse, could be throwing trees at us.’

However as they continued Mao felt a little restless. They’d passed the “2 klicks” mark approximately ten minutes ago and perhaps the earlier adrenaline made her a little anxious, but damned if the woman wasn’t hoping for some sign that other people had been there. Given the time increments between logs she supposed she shouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t notice anything for yet another hour or more. ’That is, assuming they weren’t somehow guided in circles despite believing they went north the entire time.’

”Pardon my question if it sounds rude in any way, but if…either or both groups met with an unfortunate end…would there be a way to find them amongst this coalescing mass of madness? Is there a way to separate ‘good’ entities from bad ones, or are these malevolent ones making themselves more apparent?” It would be a slight comfort if she could at least know they might be heading in the right direction, but it wouldn’t be surprising if the current ruling forces here weren’t finding ways to manipulate them in some similar fashion. Just as she finished speaking a small voice trickled down her ear.

”They’re waiting for you beyond the forest.”

Dmitry would have been impressed by the tail trick Mao pulled if he wasn't so pissed at Seikatsu. I swear, demon or no, I'm going to kill him... He thought as he glared at his suddenly cocky friend. Originally he was angry with Mopey for even suggesting such a thing, but now it seemed a bit more appealing. All the same, he took Seikatsu's words seriously; while they both could detect such things, the topic of dead people was more his hooded companion's field.

As they moved forward, Dmitry could hear footsteps every now and then. He couldn't sense anything new, so it was likely the residual thought energy in the area. Not much better, really. While such a thing usually wouldn't bother the strong willed mage, the fact that he had a charge with him at the moment made it far more stressing, especially with 'it' still out there. Dmitry soon found himself walking a few inches from Mao out of worry, when she made another query.

"Unfortunately, if that's the case, their souls have either left this place or have been corrupted by..." Dmitry sighed. He had to tell her. "Listen, Mao. I should have told you this earlier but...there's something out there...something at the center of all this. Something...wrong." He felt guilt for the first time in a decade. "I'm sorry. I had no right to hide it. I just...didn't want to scare you." Now that he said it aloud, he felt even worse for acting on such foolish reasoning. That was when he heard it. Dmitry's eyes widened and he put a hand on Mao's left shoulder in case they needed to dodge something else. "Stay close," He whispered, trying to use his sixth sense to find the source of this voice. It was then that he finally noticed the absence of a presence that was alien to this place. He looked behind him to confirm his suspicions and found nothing but fog, causing Dmitry to curse the demonic swordsman under his breath.

    "Damnit, Mopey..."

Seikatsu stopped a matter of feet from Dmitry and Mao when she halted yet again to present a query regarding this strange phenomenon. While Dmitry was answering her question, Seikatsu found himself in a different area. There was no transition between the change of scenery besides a strange sound, and the feeling of his body being pulled away. Seikatsu looked around as his eyes had finally adjusted to the increase in present spirits. 'This is bad...' Seikatsu thought to himself. Seikatsu grabbed the handle of his sword, feeling as though he should use it, but decided it would be a waste. Seikatsu released the grip and stood in place. The scar on his face burned harder as a gust of wind sent the wizard flying into a tree.
'Are you alright dear?' Altsoba asked out of concern.
"Yeah, just fine." Seikatsu replied in a pained voice.
Seikatsu couldn't shake the feeling that he knew exactly who was behind all this, he didn't want to point any fingers yet, but this presence was so perfectly matched with it.
"Altsoba?" Seikatsu waited for the demon to reply.
'Yes?' Altsoba said after a moment.
"Should I have told them... you know, about 'that' thing?
The one you told me about?"
Seikatsu asked, hoping for a true opinion.
'Probably, but it's too late now.' Altsoba answered.
Seikatsu figured Altsoba was right, but he also regretted no telling his friends about his theory behind this place. Seikatsu took his arm out of his cloak, and looked at the tiny wyvern tightly wrapped around it, shivering from fear.
    "Lisa." Seikatsu said coldly.
The wyvern stopped shaking and uncoiled itself. She looked at Seikatsu, and let off a few clicks filled with forced confidence.
"I know you don't like it here.
But I want you to find Mr. Kazakov, and Ms. Nakiri.
    Assure them I am unharmed.
Draw them a map to the center of he forest."
    Seikatsu instructed.
Lisa let off a few uncertain clicks. Seikatsu rubbed her head and let off a smile. This was enough for the wyvern to get moving.

    LISA VISION!

Lisa flew overhead for a good hour or so, passing the center of the forest. The center was filled with so much dark energy it was hard to see anything. She flew another hour when she saw Dmitry and Mao walking through a small break in the tree tops. She dived in, moving at neck breaking speed and entered the forest below. She made a circle around the two so she could get a second glance, her silhouette being the only thing visible in the dark forest undergrowth. She closed in on Mao and landed on her shoulder using her claws to keep hold. Dmitry noticed her from the one Kateri kept with her, being so kind as to not attack her. Lisa slid down Mao's arm and dropped to the forest floor. The lighting was horrible, but was enough to see what Lisa was drawing.
Lisa drew a crude map of the forest. She plotted Dmitry and Mao's location on the map, and drew an arrow pointing to the middle, a large area of open space where most likely the cause of this damned atrocity was waiting. Lisa plotted Seikatsu's rough position, on the exact opposite end of the forest, and made an arrow pointing from his direction to the center, indicating that he was headed there himself. Lisa flew up to Mao's arm and coiled around it as she normally did for Seikatsu. Using her sword-like tail, Lisa pointed in the direction the two needed to be heading.

As appreciated as the concern was, the realization that he believed her so easily frightened saddened Mao a little. Did she come off as one easily frightened? Was it the fact she possessed rabbit-like ears instead of something canine or more predatory? The feelings of disappointment didn’t have time to catch hold as a sense of urgency filled the air, Mao’s attention snapping into alert mode until the fact hit her: they lost their other party member.

She didn’t even register the amusing little nickname, keener on trying to feel anything out through this fog, yet to no avail. Whatever tailed them moments ago either made off with Seikatsu, or vanished about the same time as those obnoxious footsteps no longer plagued the pair. Try as they might however, wherever Seikatsu disappeared off too must’ve been farther than she imagined they could drag – or transport – a living being. ’They can separate people at their whim? I never stood a chance…’ If they could manipulate people this freely, then why the hell had anyone sent her these objects? Why not someone such as Seikatsu or Dmitry, or someone else who could commune and understand spirits even a smidgen better than she?

    ’Unless…that was the idea…’

The thought floated around as they continued to search for the man before accepting their best bet would be to traverse the forest like before. Unlike before however, their target would likely (hopefully) be alive even if they couldn’t predict where he’d ended up. Silent as it was for the moment, an earlier thought continued to bounce around her noggin until she finally decided to give voice to it, stopping her pace and waiting the single second it took Dmitry to halt. Imploringly she stared up into his mismatched eyes with her green ones as she spoke in a gentle voice, ”Dmitry…I know we barely know one another, so I certainly won’t fault you for anything, but in the future…you don’t have to hide the ‘scary things’ from me. If possible, I’d rather be prepared and armed with at least some idea, than none at all…” Looking down at the ground at the end, the girl tried to figure out how to explain that “fear” was a strange emotion for her. Discomfort, surprise, shock: all of those were easily things she experienced. Fear however was a…strange phenomenon to say the least, one the mage gave little thought to until today.

’Maybe some things are better left unsaid…but maybe that was his thoughts?’

About to explain it, Mao’s mouth shut as she spotted something above the man’s head, a most intriguing creature busting through the dense fog that left her wondering if it mightn’t be a trick of the malevolent presence again. They’d seen zero life outside of the spiritual activity, so when it landed on her shoulder firmly, a small gasp escaped even as relief coursed through her: finally, something alive! Thanks to her human partner, she quickly learned that the critter was indeed a friendly even as it began drawing a crude map in the dirt. ”I suppose we’ll meet him there,” she murmured, their search for the missing man turning into a meetup at this point even as the creature chose her arm over Dmitry’s. Mao stroked the small wvyern’s head before starting in the direction of the tail, ”I suppose we should get going. It’d be rude to keep your friend waiting.”

Dmitry remained silent a bit after Mao had spoken. Why had he hidden the truth in the first place? usually he was brutally honest, not worrying about people's feelings. As he was thinking on this, Lisa came down through the tree's and landed on Mao's shoulder. "It's fine, she's one of us." He assured Mao. The little wyvern then began drawing a map in the sand. So that's what Mopey had planned. "Good job, Lisa." Dmitry said before reaching out to pet the little one, only for it to bite his finger and coil up Mao's arm. Dmitry could hear Hati laughing as he held his finger, cursing the little wretch.

"Oh...yeah." Dmitry responded to Mao's suggestion, still feeling like shit over what he did, but resolving to end this so they could all get out of there. At this point, he could care less about finding out what had caused this, more worried about getting Mao out alive. However, he couldn't do that until they got rid of this thing or they would simply be walking in circles. The two began walking towards the indicated direction, Dmitry keeping mostly quiet. Soon, however, he felt an all too familiar presence creeping up on them. His heart rate began to quicken and he began to sweat. Dmitry didn't need to look at it. 'It' was stalking them. He had to tell her this time.

"It's here," Dmitry said in a course voice. "Don't look at it. Don't go after it. What's out there right now is just an extension. It won't attack us yet. Not until we get closer." Dmitry began to pant lightly and his pupils were fading in and out of their silver glow. But he continued his explanation, ignoring the strain on his psyche. "We have to keep moving or our sanity will be at risk. Medium or not, that thing will seep into your mind."

Unbeknownst to Dmitry, Hati had begun to recognize this being, but decided to keep it to himself until he could confirm his hunch.

Seikatsu had been walking for hours marking the trees by making small cuts with a stone he'd picked up along the way. The cuts were to ensure he hadn't come across the same tree more than once. Without his wyvern gripping at his arm, without Dmitry and Mao here, Seikatsu felt a bit on edge. He kept walking, talking with Altsoba to maintain his sanity as the piercing powers of 'him' were seeping through Seikatsu's body; forcing Altsoba's will to take him over.
'Just keep resisting dear.' Altsoba said to Seikatsu, encouraging him to keep fighting.
'I... refuse to give in!' Seikatsu said, straining from the force.
Seikatsu passed a tree with a cut in it, but this cut wasn't made by him. Judging from the size on each end, it was a knife mark and it was in the direction Seikatsu was heading. Seikatsu felt the cut, examining it for anything odd and realized it had a strange residue. The marking wasn't made by a demon, or a demonic thrall, but by a human. The marking was quite fresh, only a few week or so old, and Seikatsu figured it must be from the party that Mao was hoping to find a remnant of.
Wind, repeatedly brushing against Seikatsu's back was felt. The huffing and puffing of a nervous mouth was heard repeatedly matching the tempo of the wind. The warm, moist air hitting the cloak, creeping on Seikatsu's back and moving to his ear...
Seikatsu drew his Thorn of Betrayal while spinning around, slashing at the air behind him, assuming it to be an enemy. Seikatsu's eyes were wide open as he saw nothing there. Turning around, he felt a breath caressing his face, a large black shadowy... thing glaring down at him. Breathing on Seikatsu slowly, as a man preparing to make his first kill in an arena. Seikatsu backed away a little and the being moved forward at the same speed. It didn't attack, it just stared down at him.
'Don't panic my love.' Altsoba said, interrupting the moment.
'It's merely an extension of him, it's meant to weaken your will.' She informed the frightened wizard.
Seikatsu calmed down and stood in place, forcing himself to not run.
The shadowy figure disappeared, and Seikatsu focused his mind on his link with Lisa.

    LISA VISION!

Lisa could see Dmitry being tense, forcing himself to continue the trek into enemy territory. Seikatsu's thought reaching out to her, 'Lisa.' Seikatsu said.
The tiny wyvern let off a few clicks while looking about. While Lisa was consious of her link with her master, she was still not used to him taking advantage of the ability. Lisa let off a high-pitched clicking sound, letting Seikatsu know he had her attention.
'Get Ms. Nakiri's attention, I want her to see something...' Seikatsu ordered.
Lisa uncoiled herself from Mao's arm and crawled upwards. She crawled along Mao's back and gripped her head with the razor sharp claws on her wings.
'Good enough, make her look at Dmitry.' Seikatsu said, feeling as though she hadn't noticed. That, and Seikatsu wasn't there to ensure his allies well being himself.
Lisa turned sharply in Dmitry's direction while making a rapid, high-pitched sound causing Mao to be able to see the severely disturbed summoner, trying his hardest to maintain his will. Lisa let go of Mao's head and began to fly in circles around the two as she didn't want to be a burden on Mao's shoulders, and had no desire to land on Dmitry.

Post by Chesha 25th June 2015, 12:20 am

    It wasn’t fair.

Whatever this…presence was, this mysterious force, it continued to chip away at Dmitry – and somewhere away from them, Seikatsu as well. It was almost frustrating how powerless she felt right now, and though fighting was one of Mao’s least favorite activities, for perhaps the first time since she could remember the girl really wanted to punch something in the face. However even donning one of her gauntlets would be utterly silly right now with that taunting force following them in the distance. Whatever it was controlled by, a part of, or what have you might also be impervious to someone more physically…based…

Well, it might be a bit of a long shot, but if she could do something, anything to put at least one of their minds at ease, then perhaps all their chances of survival might increase.

Conscious as she could be to harmful otherworldly beings, the girl’s only saving grace in this instance laid in the same crystals she’d discovered an affinity and fondness over. Many of them she felt brought not only various forms of healing to the wearer, but also a similar number of forms of protection. Unable to recall a time before, she couldn’t rightly say how long the affinity existed, likely some time beyond the edge of her short memory, yet as they’d traversed this controlled forest she’d become more aware of that emotional and mental shield as the forces pressed and tested it.

Instead her difficulties laid in a very strange area compared to the mediums as Lisa forced her to visually observe Dmitry’s condition. The idea struck her then, as the tiny wyvern proceeded to circle them from above – though whether or not it might have any effect was another story.

Steeling herself, Mao clenched both hands, took a deep breathe, and then unfolded one to take one of the gray-haired man’s hands as a greenish light filtered through the fingers of her other one. ”I honestly have no clue what you two are experiencing,” Mao began, gently forcing the man’s fist open and lightly placing the oblong gemstone into his palm, ”I don’t even know if this will help in the slightest, but…I’d like to try, if for no other reason than to help you in whatever little way that I can.” Encompassing both Dmitry’s hand and the stone between her’s, it gave off a slight glow as she activated tidbits of the memories locked inside and the energy seeped through his skin to let him watch the flashes.

The sudden, dynamic entry of a man from above and the quickly dealt justice in the name of a nap disturbed, followed just as swiftly by the hilarity of a monstrously hungry stomach. Chatting at the counter of a mostly empty restaurant. The sheer joy at being introduced to such a large collection of knowledge and the hidden laugh at her reaction. The second coming of the monster hidden in his stomach. They were all an amalgamation of a day she’d thoroughly enjoyed, though the girl couldn’t be sure if they’d evoke similar, light emotions when he was so plagued by another being.

As the memories flashed before his eyes Mao’s orbs darted towards the shadowy figure in the distance, narrowing even as an unseen force shoved harshly at that mental barrier. So far mentally touching upon fond memories – even if most involved reliving fond fictional tales for a second. Returning her gaze to Dmitry however, she continued, ”I’m just speaking in hopes, but all the same…if even a little bit of positive energy from a memory can help you, then it’s worth it. Please, hold onto it for a little bit, until we’re out of this at least. If it starts getting hard just pour a little magical energy into it and you can temporarily feel some of the memories again.” It was hard, being so unsure if the trick would work nearly as well on him as it did her, but it was all she could do for now. ’I can’t just go wasting sunstone’s power…not without being able to help both at the same time at least.’

Dmitry felt a calmness when he saw the memories they made that day. He smiled and gripped Mao's hand just a little bit tighter, before looking at her with eyes now in full glow. "Thanks Mao," He said to the girl, determination showing through. "But I don't need magic to help me remember that day. It's...important to me too." He slowly let go of her hand, though doing so left him strangely disappointed. Dmitry then walked forward, ready to end this. He wouldn't stop until he finally reached the center of the forest. To most, it would seem that there was nothing in the area. But Dmitry could feel it. A presence swallowing up the area, perverting this forest.

Suddenly, Dmitry felt something foreign inside his mind, a presence intruding upon his psyche.
'What...what is this?...boy!...Hold...' Hati's voice was slowly drowned out by the presence. 'Well now, it seems Hati is still playing at being a human...' A dark, grating voice replaced Hati's. 'So you are his protege...the boy he saved. A sage in the making, huh?' The voice laughed wickedly after that and the thing that had been following the mage trio appeared before Mao and Dmitry. 'Now then...let's see how the chain fits on this one!'

As soon as he heard those words, an enormous pain wracked Dmitry's mind. He dropped to his hands and knees and began coughing up blood onto the ground. Is it...trying to form a bond with me? Dmitry thought too himself. No...this is differant... Indeed, this was known as possession. Dmitry gritted his teeth and forced himself to stand. His entire body seemed to rebel against him, as pain coursed throughout his flesh and bones. "No..." The pained mage said aloud. "I won't let you...I won't let you take me...or anyone else!" Memories of a burning village flashed through his mind, mixed in with the day he spent with Mao. the faces of her, Katerii, Seikatsu, and even Hati swirled about his head. That's right. He had people he cared about. He couldn't let it end here. He stepped toward the being, full of defiance. 'What?!' It cried out in Dmitry's mind. the air shook as two wills clashed against each other. A low growl could be heard escaping Dmitry's throat. His eyes were full of resolve, intent on beating this thing. 'No...this isn't supposed to happen! Damn you Hati! And damn you too, you little vermin!'

A pulse could be felt as the fog was blown back, the creature reeling and letting out a high pitch screech. Dmitry stood firmly where he was, the glow from his pupils having expanded to his irises and the rest of his eyes pitch black, just as they were when he contracted the spirit of earth in the Labyrinth.

Hati's voice was finally heard by the summoner again.

    'Well done, boy.'

Altsoba heard the sound of the struggle and decided that it was time to go. Seikatsu had permitted her to settle a score and use his body to do so, under the sole terms that she didn't harm her allies.
Black wisps began to levitate about the battlefield as the grey haired summoner broke free of the possession attempt by the being before them.
Tendrils arose while Seikatsu's possessed body stepped out of the woods with his Scythe of Betrayal held in one hand. A voice resonated throughout the field. The voice was partially Seikatsu's, partially a feminine voice that gave off a sadistic queen's tone, and partly a demonic overlay. The voice said angrily,
    "Du...
    och...
    jag...
    är...
    odöda!"

And Seikatsu, possessed by his demon, stopped in front the shadowy being. Seikatsu's eyes glowing bright crimson, and his demonic scare radiating a crimson and black aura. The scars on the hand holding Seikatsu's scythe giving the same colors off.
"It's been a while..." the monster said in Seikatsu's direction.
"Indeed old 'friend'..." Altsoba replied, using Seikatsu as her medium.
"Tell me, how does it feel to be a woman in a man's body?" he teased.
"Better than being a parasite, living off of sacrificing females by sending them thousand year old items." Altsoba said referring to the lacrima and note.
"At least I have my own powers!
What have you, wench, a faulty bag of meat who can barely manage proper clothes!"
the being stated, making fun of Seikatsu's choice in wearing a cloak.
Altsoba closed Seikatsu's eyes as she thought of the old times, when she became a demon. She remembered luring people in herself, killing them brutally, and continuing as though it was all fine and dandy. She remembered her last murder, a young man, searching for his beloved woman in the forests.
"As I recall... that lacrima describes-"
"Me killing off that entire group of men!" Altsoba impatiently interrupted the shadowy man.
"Words are lost on a lowly demon such as yourself.
I have evolved myself to the next level of demonic power.
I have contracted a powerful mortal to me, and made him my man!
This 'faulty bag of meat' has proven to be the most reliable ally I've had in both of my lives!"
    Altsoba declared matter of factly.
"Bah! That mortal has little power, compared to my darkness!" the figure boasted.
    "Darkness?
You believe your power to be true darkness?
I shall show you the heart and soul of a wizard who has been through the gates of death itself, and came back from lands no mortal has ventured before..."
Alstoba said with a sadistic smile on Seikatsu's face.
Altsoba slammed the loop end of the Scythe of Betrayal on the floor, causing the world to grow darker and darker with each word she spoke thereafter.
    "Ljus!
    Lyser!
    Starkast!
    På!
    Natten!"
Altsoba boldly stated, exerting her own authority on the world around her.
The sky turned black with several dots twinkling throughout, power surged through Seikatsu's body as the night had set in. The world around the group turned to night, black shadowy wisps floating about gave even greater power to the occult magic of Seikatsu, and Dmitry. The shadowy tendrils, kissing the air provided power to Seikatsu's, Dmitry, and Mao's fists, and any weapons they possessed.
"This is the true power of darkness!
The power to overwrite the very law of nature itself!
Now revel in dishonor as this mortal body,
    these three mortal beings,
    bring about your defeat!"
Altsoba said with a strong, determined voice.

Lisa took flight and began circling above, awaiting her time to strike.

There it finally was in the…not-so-flesh! Had they reached the middle and not realized it yet, or did the creature simply grow weary of their slow pace? They’d only walked a little more before the thing arrived and sent Dmitry into a world of pain, forcing the man unto his knees only to expel a mouthful of blood like a sacrifice to the wicked being. And there she stood, unable to help a single soul as it all fell on Dmitry to push the creature out. Things stretched on for eons and yet time refused to move fast as Mao reached for her gauntlets, slowly donning one as she stared at the beast, its wretched grinning face aimed at the struggling medium.

Their other search ended shortly after Dmitry’s breakthrough, though…the feminine voice overlay left Mao a little…startled? Confused? ’The demon?’ Well…he did say it was a female…Altsoba was the name? Did this mean they had two opponents on hand?

More shocking than the reappearance of Seikatsu controlled by another was the information revealed by the dark, female entity as she spat her disgust at the thing. ’Thousand year old?’ Then…there was no hope from the beginning. Had that been why the Rune Knights were so confused by her questions? Why so few people knew of the other two missing people? But…

She couldn’t get caught up in those emotions right now, the situation far too dangerous. Even if the demon within one of her “allies” lay as the cause, right now the most prevalent threat stood before them. Pushing down the slight blush that threatened to rise at the demoness’ bold declaration about the hooded man, Mao poured all those feelings into another crystal. It was…an unpleasant feeling, to say the least. Suddenly so empty as the world around them changed, what little light existed dimming further as the possessed man empowered both mediums with the power of his shared darkness.

This was not a world meant for her.

The tall, dark, and shadowy figure screamed in apparent rage as tendrils shot out in a multitude of directions – perhaps almost as blind as she was? Landing a few paces behind, claws helped slowed her momentum as they dug into the ground, knees almost touching dirt as a few lines trickled down a cheek and a few gashes on an arm caused her shirt to cling to that spot. Anything she did at this point could be classified as stupid, the better option likely being to hide behind the trees and let them take care of it, but that felt too irresponsible and far more powerless than she’d been thus far. ’If we’re both blind…then it needs a target.’

A silent apology was spoken in her mind even as magical energy collected inside Mao, only to explode in a brilliant display of red on all five limbs. Even atop both large gauntlets jagged formations of luscious red rubies grew, some dotting her legs, but more brilliantly shone her tail as all three tips received designs reminiscent of long, pointed eyes. Unlike Altsoba and Seikatsu, she lived in a world bathed in light, no matter how much she appreciated cloudy days over sunny. Through the glow she could better make out the next attack, almost able to spy the twisted grin as a hand shot at her with claws eager for flesh.

”HA!” the cry came out automatically as she smacked it with one of her glowing gauntlets, ducking out of the blow by the skin of her teeth. It lodged into a tree, long enough for Mao to jump onto the odd, chilling limb and use it as a spring board to avoid the next one as it grasped at air. So long as she could turn it around and avoid shedding light unto the others, then they could utilize the opening far better than she.

Dmitry grinned at Seikatsu's arrival. "Took you long enough, Mopey!" He shouted. Then things became dark as Altsoba did her thing. So it was her the whole time, Dmitry thought to himself. He couldn't say he was all that surprised, but that wasn't important right now. The spirit mage could feel his spiritual bonds strengthening and shook off the weariness from his ordeal; it was time to call on his friends. As Mao was knocked back, Dmitry felt a boiling rage in him. Then he grit his teeth as Mao went and made a target of herself. While he realized how important it was and he was certainly impressed with her agility, it didn't ease his worry. If his hair were brown, it would be turning gray.

"I invoke the Twin Ravens: Huginn, Muninn" The smoky birds flew forth and moved to either side of the creature. Using the bit of light Mao had provided, Dmitry converted the the crows into blades and rained them on his opponent. The two blades lodged themselves into its neck, eliciting a scream of agony before disappearing. Dmitry then summoned the spirit that would best synchronize with the anger in his veins.

'Your time to shine, old man!' Dmitry said to the spirit that raised him.

"I invoke the Great Wolf: Hati!" The powerful wolf charged forth and leaped onto the creatures back, sinking his fangs into its already wounded neck. As it writhed about with Hati firmly attached, Dmitry drew the knife from his boot. He then dashed towards the beast's side and stuck the the blade into what should qualify as the it's right knee, before one of its tentacles knocked him aside out of reflex. Dmitry tumbled across the ground and slid to a stop before propping himself up on one knee and firing a smoke-like wisp at the knife he left in the thing, pushing it even further into the creature's 'flesh'. The monster dropped down on that knee in pain as Hati kept his fangs securely fixed into its 'throat'. It then reached back, stuck its claws into the wolf, and threw him over its shoulder. Hati disappeared shortly after hitting the ground.

Dmitry shakily stood up and prepared himself for another invocation, though he expected Seikatsu/Altsoba to take care of the thing in short order. Still, he felt an incredible urge to see this it dead, if that was even possible. If not, Dmitry would settle for decapitation...

Awaiting for the area to be cleared, Lisa flew down low to the ground and zeroed in on the shadowy figure's position. She kept her speed, quickly whizzing past Mao, her black glossy silhouette being illuminated by the burning rubies about her body. Lisa arced upwards and grabbed hold of the demon while stabbing it with her tail. A vine knocked her off, and she took to the air again. She dropped back down and started speeding towards the shadowy figure. As the great wolf Hati slammed down on the beings 'throat' Lisa grabbed onto what could only be assumed as its arm. She released her grasp in time to see the wolf being knocked down, and disappear. 'DO IT NOW!' Seikatsu's voice sounded in her head. The wyvern flew to the top of the black arena and began glowing a bright crimson color. The radiance of Lisa's dragon bloodline, the burning fury of her deceased kin, the power of her ancestors all manifested itself as a bright, powerful radiance that lit up the entire battlefield for a moment, revealing Seikatsu's position.

Altsoba, still controlling Seikatsu's body, jumped back as the twin birds Huginn and Muninn came down upon her enemy. She charged forwards and slashed the figure with her scythe. A black tendril came from the ground and grabbed her. Altsoba's wrath so strong she had little issues using the strength of Seikatsu to break free. A second tendril lashed out, flicking Seikatsu to the side.
'Damnit, I'm not used to your body.' Altsoba said to Seikatsu in their head.
'Very well, give me control.' Seikatsu replied.
Seikatsu's eyes changed to a dark blue glow, but his scars maintained their bloody glows. Seikatsu charged forwards, rolling to a side out of the path of a tendril. He spun the blade and hacked one of the tar colored whips in half, and then thrusted the spike of his Scythe of Betrayal. Seikatsu felt a great pain and a set of tendrils was forced through his body, and threw him at Mao. Seikatsu saw the great wolf Hati's soul essence vanish from his sight while in the air. 'DO IT NOW!' Seikatsu ordered his wyvern in his mind. After impacting the floor near Mao, Seikatsu took no time to revel in the pain and agony from the hole in his back. He clapped his hands together and spread apart a large sphere around him and Mao. The sphere's dark blue, and light blue highlights revealing him and Mao's position much more clearly than Mao's glowing jewels.

Lisa's power having filled the world about her, a bright red light came down from the skies raining judgment from a world beyond death down upon the field. The field was riddled with scores of burning rocks, illuminating the field. The darkness of the field, now was able to mildly illuminate by the embers given off from the meteor strike, revealing a slight hint to where everyone was laying.

Seikatsu's body feeling faint, his scythe too far away for him to pick up, Seikatsu had no choice. As the flaming rocks had destroyed his barrier, he was thankful that he was able to protect Dmitry's friend from harm. Seikatsu pulled out a sword with a light blue handle, a glowing red ruby as the guard, and a white blade.
    Weapon:
"Hey Altsoba..." Seikatsu said in a faint, weak voice,
"I'm gonna take a nap, do me a favor..." Seikatsu coughed up a bit of blood.
"Kick his ass." He said as he slammed the blade into the ground.
"Kom och hjälp mig" Seikatsu said with increasing volume as he began to fade out of consciousness.
Seikatsu took a deep breath as he pulled forth the last of his strength.
    "ALTSOBA!!!" He yelled strongly.
The sword exploded in a cloud of red, white, and black; becoming little more than a cloud of metallic powder. The cloud condensed, giving the form of a woman wearing a purple dress with red accents dimly illuminated by the burning rocks. Seikatsu smiled as his hand touched her scythe, his eyes dull and seeming truly dead. Altsoba's scythe glowed bright blue with the frozen shards encasing it, and gave a flickering effect from the lines of soul energy. The tendrils Seikatsu called forth before combined with the weapon, and Seikatsu faded to black.
Altsoba looked at Mao's weapons. One glowed bright blue from the shards of Ice Seikatsu somehow coated it in, and the other had blue lines from his reinforcement spells. She closed her eyes and turned to the shadow demon.
"I won't let this go." She said calmly as she got ready to attack.

Nightmarish Strings Empty Re: Nightmarish Strings

Post by Chesha 26th June 2015, 12:05 am

Things became heated as both men set to wailing upon the unfortunate – yet despicable – creature, claws and blades hacking through and diving into that menacing hide. As they made their presence more known the beast’s focus naturally shifted to the more prevalent threats, the glowing girl kept more to the outer edges of their small battlefield. Between a wyvern trying to swoop in and a ghostly wolf biting down into a usually vulnerable spot, nobody would blame him. One fell off and the other thrown, the thing could return its haunting attention back unto the three humans – or humanoids – as it chucked one of the figures towards the glowing girl.

Unfortunately it was too dangerous to try and catch the man, as tempting as it might’ve been, as even her tail might do more harm than good at softening the blow. As tempting as it was however… ’I can’t, not yet.’ Not until things calmed down more, though if it turned too dire she’d use the spell and stick close to whoever had it the worse, which appeared to be Seikatsu for the moment. He remained conscious long enough to perform some sort of defensive spell as fiery rocks of doom began to fall, the vision a little apocalyptic even as some of them flattened tendrils to the ground and forced them to wither while it screeched in obvious pain.

Distracted by the sudden appearance of the woman – who she could only guess to be Altsoba unless some sword spirit shared the name – the demoness’ attention caused Mao to turn her gaze unto the gauntlets upon realizing the light changed a little. ’Well, no time like the present I suppose,’ the girl decided, mentally invoking another spell as a thicker, white coating of crystals collected over the gauntlets – and surrounding both the icy spikes and chunks of ruby – coatings building up along her legs and filling wherever the rubies missed on the ends of her tail to turn it into a third claw.

Onwards she charged, diving between the rocks for whatever little cover they’d afford, drawing the thing’s attention away from the darkened, prone man lying beyond their latest party addition. He would be such an easy target right now, so she didn’t want to afford the thing time even as some tendrils scraped by. Diamonds clattered to the ground before dissipating as both legs became revealed, a few tears in the loose cloth pants showing a few close calls even as some blood hit the ground from a deeper gash on a thigh. But she had to keep going, grimacing through the pain as she harshly slammed a tendril aside before it could pierce her shoulder and slammed her full body into a side.

One hand tore away with a black ooze slipping over the trio of colors present, the other lodged somewhat firmly into its midsection. Adrenaline pumped heavily as one thought above all others prevailed: she needed to get away. Staying so close to something this strong for someone as weak as her meant too much on the line. Both feet pressed firmly against the beast’s hip as she pushed off, ignoring the sting of more slices as she flipped into the air, and felt the satisfying crunch of hitting something solid with her tail – the head forced backwards as the extra limb slammed into the jaw and partially through it.

Sliding along the ground again, Mao panted as she tried to ignore the disgusting substance now on her tail. It was better to focus on that than any of the number of injuries piling up.
