Job: Strange Vulcans! (Part One)

Requirements: Stop the Vulcans from stealing food from the nearby villages in the Spooky Forest.
Location: Spooky Forest
Description: Signs of vulcans have appeared in the Spooky Forest! These vulcans are seem to be stealing food from the nearby villages. Stop them before they hurt someone! If you take the job you must bring another mage with you.
Monsters:
Weak: Young vulcans
Normal: Low-level adult vulcans
Strong: High-level vulcans
[optional]Boss: Troll Kong: King of the forest Vulcans. Unlike others; it has two sets of arms, each double the muscle mass. Do not confuse this thing for being slow or unbalanced, it has adapted well to being able to not only move quick but is extremely agile as well; able to swing through trees faster than any other Vulcan.

Ray stood just at the outskirts of the small village. He looked into the forest as he leaned against a building lazily. He stifled a yawn as it tried to escape his mouth and stretched his arms over head. He looked up at the sun and sighed, where was his partner? He had taken a job to help ward off some Vulcans that had been causing problems for a few small villages near their forest. He was told that another person would be arriving to assist on the mission, so far nothing.

He thought over the job several times, planning the best way to deal with the beasts. Of course, planning would be difficult without any information on who would be accompanying him. The vulcans were large and physically powerful, they out classed him easily in brute force, but Ray was agile and was by no means weak, besides he had a few spells to help out along the way. Still, his partner would be equally as important in this situation. With any luck they would be a large man utilizing some powerful form of magic, perhaps earth or something similar.

~Acalia in control~
Acalia skipped around through the forest. She was scared of the place, terrified in fact but tried to keep her spirits up. So she sang, not any perticular song just various different notes with the word-if it would be called a word-"la." So she skipped, pissing off Zellha more and more as she sang. "La la la la la, la la la la~!" she sang to herself. Finally she emerged from the forest happily, and Zellha's soul sat on the ground, sighing as Acalia confronted random people. "Hey are you my partner?" She ran up to a ton of random people, each saying no to her question. Finally Zellha stood up and walked over to Acalia, humming. This sent a chill up Acalia's spine, because the sound of Zellha's humming was so peaceful and serene, yet Acalia knew what Zellha was capable of, and that was defenitely NOT peaceful or serene.
"Instead of running up to random people and asking them like an idiot, try using your brain. Look around." Zellha studied the villiage, then found a person leaning against a house staring into the forest. "He appears to be waiting for someone, ask him." Acalia nodded, and then skipped over to the man, and Zellha sighed. "Why, of all people, must I share a body with this imbecile?"
Acalia, now over to the man looked up at him. "Hi there~! I'm Acalia! Are you the one I am sharing a job with? In case you didn't know it's about the Vulcan threat!" she smiled brightly at the man.

There was a small commotion in the village as person after person repeated the same word, "No." Ray glanced toward the small town but pushed it aside. It couldn't possibly be the vulcans, there wasn't any screams of terror or cries of pain or any other signs of people being robbed by giant beasts. He closed his eyes and sighed as he shook his head slowly, it looked like he had been stood up. Regardless he Ned the money so he'd have to venture in and handle them alone.

Just as he prepared to head into the forest a girl around his age appeared before him. He looked at her curiously before smiling back at her. His story telling mind kicking in, this could be the start of another tale of romance and tragedy, suspense and longing. They'd fall in love only for him to embark alone on this dangerous mission. Leaving his lover behind to wait in anticipation wondering if he'd return alive or with his body on his shield, perhaps he wouldn't return at all. He flicked the story into his archives and held onto it, as far as he was concerned it was a wonderful story that could be brought into reality, after all the stories had to come from some source of realism, right?

His stomach tightened as she brought up the job, asking if he was his partner. "You... Are the one I'm paired with?" He muttered a bit discouraged. Sure it was all fun and well to dream up some story book fantasy about her and himself, but taking her on a dangerous mission with him? This was not what he had hoped for. He smiled at her, deciding to at least be pleasant with her if they were to die together soon.

"Yeah...I'm Ray, its a pleasure." He said as he looked out at the forest. He glanced back at the girl and shrugged. "Well, you ready to head in?" He asked curiously, still not sure what kind of person would assign a cute young girl a mission like this one.

"Yup! All ready!" Acalia grabbed the guy's hand and ran off into the forest, well it was moreso a jog because she couldn't really pull him and run at the same time. As she ran in there, she started looking around. "The job says we're supposed to beat 10 of these things right?" She looked around, getting a bit frieghtened by the spooky scene around her. Zellha smiled as her soul stood against a tree, with her arms folded and she was still humming. Acalia again got a chill up her spine. How is Zellha so calm in a spooky place like this? Zellha knows that if Acalia feels pain, she feels pain so if a giant monkey jumps out and throws her into a tree and kills her, Zellha'll die too! There was NOTHING to be so calm about! But yet and still she was so calm.
Zellha thought about the job, kill a few vulcans, get paid, nothing bad there. She couldn't see why Acalia was so scared of this forest, the fear was clearly shown on her. It was a calm forest, a bit dark but nothing scary about it. Zellha raised an eyebrow when she heard something coming, from two different directions. "Heh." She said as she cracked a smile, because Acalia showed no knowledge of this. Was she just that non-observant? Or was her fear overcoming her? Either or, something was coming, and Zellha wouldn't make an appearance until absolutely neccesary.
A girl like her can take care of herself, can't she?

'Monster Dice' :

Ray couldn't help but smile as the girl took his hand and drug him into the forest. It was a bit entertaining, seeing how excited she seemed to be. Of course once they entered the forest her demeanor changed drastically. She slowed down as she looked around nervously, it was clear that she was uncomfortable, maybe even scared. It looked like they were going to be in for some trouble on this job, Ray was no extremely powerful warrior and this girl seemed too scared to be of much use if they were attacked. "Having fun yet?" He asked with a smile.

His file faded and his head swung from side to side as he picked up a sound. Something was coming, but it sounded like it came from more than one direction. He stopped in his tracks, grabbing Acalia by the shoulder to hold her in place. It was best to wait and see what they were up against, going deeper in the forest was quite probably the worst thing they could do right now.

Suddenly the ground vibrated as a large ape like beast landed to one side of them. Ray gritted his teeth and moved between Acalia and the Vulcan defensively. Suddenly it shook more violently as a larger Vulcan crashed down on the other side of them. Instinctively, Ray moved Acalia behind him, he couldn't let her get pummeled by these monsters, well not until they pummeled him first at least.

Acalia tried to keep her cheery expression as he asked if she was having fun. "Mhm!" she said, but when Ray grabbed her shoulder she looked up at him curiously. "U-Uhm what's up? Is there something wr-" She was cut off by the big vulcan, which made her scream in fear. A larger one came up from the skies and crashed down to the ground, and Ray put Acalia behind him. Was he trying to protect her? Did he not know what Zellha was capable of? Well, she didn't know at all about mister Ray, so she thought it was safe to assume Ray didn't know much about her, especcially about the other soul within her. She looked up at the two vulcans, then at the tree where Zellha was. She mouthed the word help, but Zellha didn't do anything but smile and watch.
The smaller of the two vulcans went for a giant straight jab to Ray, and Acalia wouldn't let that happen. He tried to protect her, and she had to protect him. She quickly whipped out her small wooden ocarina Serenity, and played the song of barriers, a peaceful, serene song and then a pane of crystal that was so thin it could be mistaken as glass appeared in front of him. It looked as if it wouldn't survive a single stone being thrown at it, much less a giant monkey's punch.But it did. It bounced the monkey off, and the crystal cracked only slightly. Acalia knew it wouldn't survive another hit, but at least she gave Ray some time, and possibly some time for Zellha.
Zellha sighed, and walked over to Acalia's body. She knew that the ocarina was all that Acalia had to defend herself, so she had to step in. "You're useless in combat. I was stupid to think you could do anything useful." Zellha rolled her eyes and stepped into the body, and Acalia's body went limp and she passed out.

The smaller of the vulcans lunged at Ray, fist out stretched as it prepared to try and crush him. He braced himself and prepared to throw a counter attack of his own at the creature. Suddenly he heard a small rustling and then a gentle melody. Just before the creature could strike a thin barrier emerged before him. The large beast was hurled backwards as if by a slingshot. Ray turned to smile at the girl, only when he turned around she passed out, surprising him.

The smaller ape stood up confused before rushing back at the two teenagers. He couldnt just fight with his partner down and out like this, theyd overwhelm him orncrush her while he was busy. Ray's finger began to glow a bright purple as he began to scribble in the air. A moment later the word 'Barrier' was left hovering in glowing letters. The word dissolved and vanished as the beast came up with its hands laced together. It swung them hard at Ray.

A smirk spread on his face as the Vulcan was stopped by an invisible wall. It snarled in confusion and began pounding on the invisible wall that stretched out between them. He had to think of something quick. The beast was rapidly pounding on the barrier, and then the idea struck him. His finger lit up a pink color this time as he wrote an word quickly in the air. The word tired now rested in the air before pulsing and vanishing as it took effect. After a moment the Vulcan was becoming quickly fatigued, each strike draining more and more of its energy before it stopped attacking, breathing heavily.

~Zellha now in control~
Zellha awoke a second later, to find that the vulcan was now tired. Her eyes, instead of being all big like Acalia's was now narrow, with a hateful glare. Her voice was different, darker, one that would invoke fear on children. She stood up and looked at the battle. The larger of the two appeared to wait for the smaller one to be finished, as if he wanted to test the skill. Who's, she couldn't figure out yet. It might be seeing if Zellha and Ray were strong enough to beat the smaller vulcan, or seeing if the smaller vulcan was strong enough to beat them. Zellha sighed, and looked to the side of her to see Acalia's soul, smiling happily and giving Zellha a thumbs up. Again she sighed, and Zellha's body began to surround in green and white sparkly light, coming down on her until it was simply an aura. Without doing much about the green aura she walked past Ray, and held up both her hands at the smaller vulcan. "Get out of my sight." She said, then her hands began to fire 5 balls of the same green and white sparkly energy each, each ball striking it for as it was tired and barely tried to move. It was hit by the first one, which exploded and sent the vulcan flying, as did the third, and the fourth and the rest, and the vulcan stopped moving and it lay against the tree, body burnt up and bleeding, and its eyes were closed but Zellha couldn't decide if it was dead or just unconcious, but there was more pressing matters.

Zellha knew it wouldn't go down as easy as the first one, so her right hand surrounded in green light, and a small palm-sized ball of Ruin Energy started to manifest itself in her hand.

He heard movement behind him and looked over his shoulder, Acalia was up now but... She seemed different than before. Without speaking a word to him she passed him and began her attack on the Vulcan that was now worn out from Rays own spell. His eyes widened as the balls of energy struck and detonated the ape. The creature was hurled backwards, soaking the ground in the blood that leaked from its burnt body.

His stomach tightened as he sensed a different side of the girl, there was something unsettling about her now. The thoughts were pushed from his mind, he had more important things to worry about than if the cute girl was a crazy killer or not. As the creatures life faded so did his spell, giving him a small amount of energy and mp back. Slightly re invigorated, he began to use both hands to scribble into the air as the other larger Vulcan looked angrily and pounded its chest.

The word "Nervous" appeared twice in the air, both pulsing as the larger Vulcan now looked around a bit paranoid as if expecting something to jump out and scare him. Ray smirked as he looked over to his now intimidating comrade, he was able to throw them off and lower their performance, but it would be up to her spells to do the most damage.

Zellha looked slightly shocked as the vulcan began to look a bit paranoid, but her normal expression returned and she began taking slow, paced steps towards it while humming the usual tune she hummed. The vulcan looked at her, and its paranoia led it to be a bit more agressive, and it quickly swung towards Zellha, and Zellha only smiled.
An explosion.
The aura around her body bursted, and a large sphere of energy surrounded her body, exploding and sending the vulcan flying backwards. The explosion created a large crater in the ground beneath Zellha, and she stood there for a minute in pain, the spell caused her clothes to be a bit ripped up and tapered, but nothing too bad and a bit of blood dripped from her left arm, but she shrugged it off like it was nothing. Jumping out of the crater below her Zellha now threw the small ball of energy at the vulcan, who was still hurtling backwards. The ball connected with it, resulting in a massive explosion, the biggest of the ones that she caused yet. The vulcan blasted through a few trees, and slid along the ground, it didn't return, so Zellha assumed the best of the options. It was either too afraid of the Ruin Goddess to return, or it was dead. Zellha began humming again as she returned to Ray, and stood there waiting for him to either say something or continue forward.

Ray watched intensly as the girl approached the large Vulcan who looked at her almost as if it were frightened. However, you can only back a giant ape so far into a corner before it panics. As he suspected it had happened. The large Vulcan hurled its large fist at the girl and Ray took a step forward before a large sphere engulfed Acalia before his eyes. The Vulcan was caught up in the sphere before the explosion went off and hurled it away from her, sending it through several trees before disappearing into the forest.

Ray was glad that they were fairing well but he couldn't help but feel unsettled by the change of personality. "That was pretty impressive..." He spoke cautiously as he approached her as she crawled out of the crater. He then noticed the blood dripping from her arm and her ripped clothing. "Are you alright?" He asked as he stood before her smiling. Then there was more rustling in the forest, it seemed the other vulcans weren't too happy about the way their brethren were treated.

Zellha raised an eyebrow at Ray. He had asked for her well being? Well, Zellha tried not to be as harsh as she usually was to most people, he had in fact tried to save Acalia by sacrificing himself, which ended in failure but the gesture was still the same, and protecting this body was a neccesity until Zellha could get her own body back, so she decided to be thankful.
"I'm fine. It doesn't hurt at all." This was proven wrong by Acalia. She was bawling and clutching her arm, sitting against a tree. She knew Zellha felt the same pain, except Zellha didn't cry nor ever showed weakness, but Acalia knew that the pain was still there all the same.
Zellha turned and swung around when she heard more of the monsters. Two more of the little vulcans had came out, as well as another large one. Zellha's three initial spells were still recharging, so all she had was two more, and these two would take out the smaller ones easily, but not so much the large one. Zellha growled a bit, she showed no fear but it was emminent in her expression that she knew this was bad for her. "Well alright then." She flung her left arm up, and winced for a second, but regained her posture and a circle of light appeared below the first small vulcan, and it exploded, and a crater was blown in the ground. She turned over to Ray, and her right arm surrounded in green light as she charged up her last spell. "Hold them off for a second!"

Ray was a bit shocked, it looked like it hurt but she claimed not didn't not even a little. As she spun around he looked behind them and saw the three new vulcans that had appeared. He couldn't help but sigh as he thought about one thing. IF they managed to beat these three, they would only be half way done. Suddenly her hand began to glow again, followed by a wince of pain. As she detonated the ground below one of them Ray looked a bit annoyed.

"Why didn't you tell me you could do that! I could have made it better! Haven't you ever heard of team work?!" He exclaimed. If her magic could effect a large area then Ray could have used his own to box in the creatures so they'd all be struck by her spell. He nodded in compliance as she asked him to hold them off but sighed, most of his spells were going to take awhile to recharge and he didn't have time for that.

He shrugged his shoulders before his finger flew white and he began to write on himself. He winced as the spell took effect on him and his speed rose drastically. Using that speed he quickly scribbled 'strength' on himself as well before bolting towards the smaller creature with incredible speed. In an instant he was hovering just above the creature and delivered a powerful Axe kick on the apes crown. The force made the creature fall head first into the ground, cracking it a bit as the Vulcan was rendered unconscious.

The second it was down the larger Vulcan let out a roar before swinging its large fist at Ray. He tried to dodge but the speed and strength boosts he had given himself wore off as quickly as he had attacked. The large fist connected with his chest and sent him hurtling towards a nearby tree. He slammed violently against the trees trunk, only able to manage a gasp before hitting the ground gasping for air, the breath knocked out of him.

Zellha glared at the man, but decided to shrug it off. She then saw him get blasted across and he started wheezing for air. "Damnit!" she yelled, but luckily for her the energy surrounding her arm was full, and then the ape ran towards her preparing to strike. She knew this wouldn't be enough to end its life, but it'd be good enough for now. She waited for the right moment, and then she punched it in the top of its head right as it punched her, and the force of crushing stone excerted on its skull, and it began bleeding and raging out and clutching its head. Zellha, on the other hand was blown back by the force of the attack, and yelled out in pain. She wrapped her arms around her stomach and looked up at the vulcan, panting heavily.
D-Dammit... All of my spells are used up for a while... Blast this dreaded body! I can't use the full extent of my power... she thought. She looked over to Acalia, who was still bawling. There was nothing these two could do, Zellha had no idea how to play an ocarina and if she let Acalia take over once again she'd probably take even more damage than she already has, so all she did was wait. A few more minutes and she'd be fine...

Ray looked up to see the girl get knocked back with a powerful punch. At least she had landed an attack on the creature. They had each taken down one of the smaller vulcans and it looked like she had just finished off this one. He sighed in relief as he began to catch his breath. Then the great beast lifted its hands in the air and began to bring them down at Acalia.

The Vulcan had a pleased look on its face as it prepared to crush the girl. Just before its hands crushed her Ray was beside the creature in mid air, the word speed fading from his arms in glowing letters. He kicked the creature hard in the head, sending it toppling over side ways. It lay on the ground breathing hard before it slammed a hand against the ground and began to lift itself up.

Before it had the chance Ray quickly scribbled strength in again before kicking the Vulcan with all his might. The Vulcan let out a noise like a whine as it slid across the ground and lay limp on the ground. He turned to the girl and moved over to check on her. "You can tell me that one didn't hurt." He said as he kneeled down beside her. "Are you alright? I think you need to rest awhile." He suggested as he looked her over.

Zellha looked at this man. She thought about resting for a bit, it was a good idea but she didn't know whether or not another vulcan would attack during this "rest and relaxation" period. All of her spells were close to being back up, with the exception of the one she just used, so a few minutes to gather her bearings would be fine. She nodded, then sat down on the ground against a tree and lay her head gainst the trunk. That really did hurt... she thought to herself, but Zellha refused to show weakness. Her arm was in pain from the explosion, and her stomach hurt insanely by that punch, and she looked over to Acalia, who was just now crying intently, not so much a severe bawl like before. She had her arms wrapped around her stomach, and sniveled and looked over to Zellha. "Z-Zellha... *sniff* We sh-should stop! This re-really hurts!" Zellha shrugged this off, and studied her surroundings, it didn't seem like there was any vulcans at the moment, but they could drop from the sky like they did before. "What should we do now?" she asked, still looking around a bit paranoid of what would happen if something attacked while she was down like this.

Ray sighed as he looked around the area, more vulcans could arrive at any moment and they were hardly prepared for the situation. This wasn't going great, nor was it going terribly. He rested his eyes on Acalia and dropped down on the ground beside her. He stretched his legs put as he sat beside her and rubbed his torso where he had been struck by the creature.

He met her eyes as she asked what their next course of action should be. He was a bit tired from the fighting and then blow he had taken didn't feel great either. Most of his spells wouldn't be ready for a little while longer, while he was sure his partners were too. "I think we should wait here and rest up." He said thoughtfully. Pushing further in wasn't going to help, if they ran into more vulcans they could Benin trouble.

On the other hand the vulcans could just as easily get to them where they were. "How about you tell me a little about yourself... You didn't seem like much of a fighter to me, but you're actually really strong." He said with a smile, still thrown off by how much the girl changed once they were thrown into combat.

Zellha decided that if anyone was going to talk to this person, it'd be Acalia. In an attempt to avoid the whole "passing out mess," Zellha just lay her head back, and closed her eyes, to make it seem like she was just thinking intently. She left the body and Acalia re-entered, and re opened her eyes, her now big eyes and no longer cold and narrow. She felt the blood on her arm, and the pain hit her even more than it hit her when she was just a soul. Acalia's eyes teared up, and she began crying again. She buried her hands in her arms, and just bawled. "Th-That r-really hurt!!!" She said in between sobs, but she was stopped by Zellha.
"Shut up, damnit! Look at how you are making me look! Talk to the man and stop being a child!" Zellha sighed and sat against the tree on the other side, looking around for more vulcans.
Acalia looked up, eyes still teary. "U-uhm my name is Acalia... as i've told you earlier. I don't use any magic, but...." she thought about revealing her secret. She'd never revealed her secret to anyone before, anyone accept those two dark-guilders. And that was Zellha revealing it, not Acalia herself. She was about to reveal herself until she heard another sound of rustling, and she looked around. There was three more coming, she just couldn't find out from where.

Ray watched as the girl tilted her head back and closed her eyes, it looked like she was trying to find the words to speak to him. A moment later they opened but were different. Her eyes were large and glossy now, tears welling up from her eyelids before she cried that it hurt and all of the pain rolledndown her cheeks in large tears. He looked a little confused but couldn't help but feel bad for Acalia, so he moved a bit closer.

"Hey its okay. We can go see a doctor or something when we get out of here" he tried to reassure her, not wanting to see her cry in pain like this. "You did really good." He complimented with a smile, not sure how such a cute and innocent girl like her changed into a powerful mage in a matter of seconds. She then told him she didn't use any magic, at which point he stopped her.

"Um... I definitely just watched you use magic. Very powerful magic at that." He said a bit curious now. There was no way shendidnt use magic, she had been blowing up vulcans left and right this entire time. Beforenshe could say anything in response however, three more vulcans appeared. Two of them resembled the ones that had been with the larger Vulcan, but one of them was a lot smaller and younger looking.

Ray quickly rose to his feet and prepared to fightnthem if they rushed towards Acalia or himself. They had gotten a short break but it hadn't taken long for these ones to appear to investigate the noise they had been making with their brethren.

Three vulcans appeared, and Zellha was still out of her body. Acalia had to think of something fast. The smaller of the three looked like a baby, and Acalia knew she couldn't harm something like that. And she WOULDN'T let Zellha get her hands on it... She'd kill it. Zellha began walking over to her body, but Acalia shook her head, showing she'll handle this on her own. "I-I don't use magic... the closest thing I have is my ocarina..." She said to Ray, who was now ready to fight the vulcans. The two vulcans, one of the bigger ones and the baby, went for Ray in unison, not making the same mistake as the vulcans before them of going one by one, but one of the larger vulcans went for Acalia, who quickly played her soft, serene song and the pane of glass-like crystal appeared in front of herself, and the vulcan smacked into it, it looked dumbfounded at first but it saw the crack in the glass it made, then gave one large punch to it, and the glass shattered. "Ah!" Acalia ran, followed by the vulcan, and Acalia thought that it was best to change souls with Zellha once they were out of sight of Ray. So, while they were running and while Ray was distracted by his own battle Acalia switched with Zellha, and she collapsed as if she just tripped and fell. The vulcan picked her up in one of its hands, and Zellha winced in pain. Lucky for her, her arms were free. "Never lay your hands on me." Zellha said coldly, then raised both of her hands and pointed them at the vulcan's face, and the 10 balls of energy had barraged it, but with the close range between the vulcan and Zellha herself she was blown back, and hit the ground with a thud. She grunted, and more blood dripped from her. The multiple blasts did a number on her, but an even greater one on the vulcan, who lay on the ground immobile. Zellha growled, then trailed over to where Ray was, the small palm-sized ball of energy forming once again in her hands as she waited for a good moment to strike.

Ray ducked as the larger Vulcan swung a fist at him, the adrenaline making him react faster. The large balled hand flew over his head and missed. Just as he dodged ,however, Acalia began to run from one of the vulcans, taking off into the forest. He wanted to chase after he but before he could the second smaller Vulcan pounced at him. He swiftly rolled to the side avoiding being crushed before calling out, "Hey! Don't split up get back here!" He cried out as she vanished through a few trees.

The larger Vulcan grabbed his leg and threw Ray off to the side. The young man quickly got to his feet as the smaller Vulcan rushed at him again. He quickly dodged the swing before kicking the youngling in the head knocking it down. He quickly held up both index fingers as they flew pink. He scribbled with his left hand "Nervous" and the word pulsed on the younger creature. At the same time he wrote "Anger" and the word pulsed on the larger Vulcan.

As the words took effect, the smaller Vulcan panicked due to its paranoia and ran to the larger one clinging tightly to its leg. The older Vulcan was now quite angry in general and didn't feel in the mood to baby the smaller one. He hit it hard on the head until it let go of him, the spells Area of effect taking action and infecting both of them. The two vulcans bickered and through a few blows, giving an opening for an attack, but even if he struck one the other would only be spurred by its new found anger. He then spotted Acalia approaching with a glowing hand, he smirked as he remembered her attacks were explosive and could easily hit both targets at the same time. He also remembered that he was probably a bit close for comfort and quickly distanced himself from the two fighting vulcans.
