Aaron hardly noticed as Riley moved behind the tree to avoid the rocks. Instead he watched as the stones simply disappeared into the void at the edge of his shield, it never ceased to fascinate him how he held this power. He would be the first to admit that he was not stronger than any other mage inherently, but he could easily see the potential in what he had, and the possibilities were staggering. He supposed that any other magic had the same potentials for power, but he never saw other magic users gaining the same amount of solace that he found in his magic. Something about the feel of the void energies was welcoming to him, almost familial.
A young Aaron was standing on a platform in a wild place full of color and energy, in front of him floated a giant black shape. Aaron vaugley felt that he should be feeling fear at the appearance of this being but all he felt was joy. Oh chosen child of our minds. We welcome you to our home, a home that will eventually be yours. Though your memories will be locked away we will watch you, you will never be without companionship again.
Aaron went rigid as the memory over took him, but it was gone as soon as it came. The memory was new, yet old. Aaron struggled in vain to recall it as vividly as it had first come, but he could not, it had faded into just another memory, albeit a little more powerful and odd. More frustratingly no matter how he tried he couldn't remember who it was in the memory speaking to him, or where he had been.
Aaron started when Riley spoke to him and turned to face her. What she said made him chuckle. Don't worry about it, consider us even for your chasing them off before. All I've really done is protect myself and lose my temper. Ahh... Aaron backed away from Riley a few steps as he spoke, you might want to stay at least six feet away from me for a bit, I can't actually lower this shield, and it will take your hand as readily as it takes stones and leaves. Indeed, as Aaron backed up a swath of bare earth was left in his wake as the shield absorbed the debris on the ground.
