    JOB INFO

    Job: Nightmare Incarnate: The Beginning
    Rank: C-Rank
Player Requirements: Maximum number of players is ten and the minimum is 2 D ranks. 10 posts per player minimum unless soloing(due to being higher than D rank) then 20 posts. 150 words per post.
Job Requirements: At least 2 D rank mages or the equivalent of. Find out what happened to the rune knights and escape while you are still sane.
    Job Location: Spooky Forest

Job Description: One day you receive a large box from the mailman. After inspecting it, you see that it doesn't say anywhere what's inside or why it's been sent to you. All that is written on the box is your name as the recipient and the initials "SM".
Upon opening the box you discover that it's contents are a hardcover book, which upon closer inspection proves to be a person called Samuel Martin's personal diary, and a voice recorder lacrima, both covered in blood stains. Did that man send you this package? Despite the bad feeling you have, you open the book and skim through the entries.

    Spoiler:

Having listened to the lacrima, it's as if more questions have emerged than been answered. Who sent you these items? How do they know your name? What happened to the Rune Knights? What did they find in that forest?
It seems that you have no choice but to go there and find out yourself.

    Enemies:
Weak: Disturbing sounds- Are those footsteps? A demented laughter somewhere in the distance? A person's dying screams? Is that a whisper you can hear, carried in the wind? This place is really freaky...
(Causes paranoia or similar effects, depending on your character. Strong-willed characters or people with a great ability to maintain their calmness can resist this to a great extent, though not completely. Having multiple weak enemy dices means that these sounds "stack", and so their effect becomes greater and perhaps even capable of breaking even the toughest of people. Duration is 3 posts.)

Normal: Poltergeists- Trees falling down, rocks suddenly shooting towards you, having your body strongly pushed away without any explanation. These anomalies can deal some serious damage or scare the living daylights out of you. They might even separate you from your allies. Be on guard. (Single poltergeist per normal monster encounter.)

Strong: The unknown figure- You can feel it, can't you? Just beyond the mist, it's hollow eyes staring right into your soul, sending ice-cold chills down your spine. No matter where you look it's there. Always watching, always moving. And no matter what you do, it's always just beyond the mist.
(Greatly frightens you, triggering your fight or flight mechanism. Whether you choose to attack or run away and hide depends on your character's personality. If this occurs in the early stages of the mission, before you've encountered the other anomalies much it will not have that great an effect. Encountering this in the later stages, however, will trigger your fight or flight mechanism, guaranteed.
Duration is 4 posts, extended depending on number of strong monster encounter dices rolled.)

Boss: Fear impersonated- Your time is up. The chase is over and now you must die. And it is coming to do just that. The unknown figure that had been stalking you until then finally appears before you, for better or worse. It's a humanoid about 2,5 metres tall, clad in black, but that's all you can make out of the figure.
It's attacks are unnaturally fast, it's reach long and it seems that it can attack you with it's tentacles, cutting you with them and letting you bleed. (This is a B-rank monster. Also please note that defeating it means that it does not die. Instead it escapes back into the mist, which gets raised soon after, and leaves behind several torn pages).

Reward: 1,000 jewels. If the boss has appeared and was defeated, the extra reward is part of the ripped pages from the diary received in the beginning of the mission. Those pages grant access to the next Nightmare Incarnate mission.

How did she get dragged into this rather vexing situation? She woke up like usual that day and started listening to songs just as usual...then how did she receive a box in the middle of all that which lead her to spooky forest of all places? The message was strange too, and although she understood the general problem, a lot of mysteries were still left there to solve. For one, she wasn’t able to receive the complete message because at the end of it, the static got in the way and the most important part was cut off. Secondly, the rune knights were trying to solve this mystery but went missing themselves. No one has any idea of what happened and most importantly, why did she receive the box? And how on earth did three others ended up tagging along?

Well, it didn’t matter. The most annoying thing was right there in front of her. Spooky forest lived up to its name in a lot of different ways. Even with the glaring light of the afternoon sun shining admonishingly down on the forest, no light was able to penetrate the thick canopy, and as they went deeper into the forest, darkness covered their eyes even more. It overpowered their senses as Eclipse stumbled on a branch and almost fell down. It wasn’t that she was scared of darkness. While the black veil it put over her eyes bothered her, she was never scared of the darkness but disliked, hated, and detested it with all her being. It brought back too many memories she wanted to leave buried in the past and she made sure that past wouldn’t follow her when she left Arcadia. After controlling the curses threatening to spill from her mouth, Eclipse walked down the narrow path filled with dried leaves and vines.

When she turned a corner and narrowed her eyes to see clearer, she felt something twitch and move next to her. ‘Must be some wild animal,’ she thought and walked a bit further but turned back again when she heard the sound of something falling down. There was a huge bolder floating in the air, swaying from side to side. Even the world of magic, floating rocks were not a good sign. The force at which it closed the distance threw her off but she managed to doge it by jumping to the side. It crashed into a tree which fell down from the force and power of the hit. Eclipse didn’t know whether she should be happy that whoever behind it all lacked control or to be worried. But just as she thought was all over, the tree she now stood on suddenly trembled and fell too, managing to scratch her legs a little when she moved away to stand on a clearing.

“Who is it?” she called out, her eyes flashing a dangerous red. “Come out!” she screamed, now annoyed at whomever that was using the darkness to target people. Her eyes travelled high and low, searching at least for a tiny clue to what they were up against. The darkness made it difficult for her senses to completely find the culprit but once she heard the rustling of leaves and felt the slithering movement of something behind her, a tentacle like thing had wrapped around her right ankle and pulled hard, throwing her down and dragging her towards it. But she managed to kick it off by harshly crushing the tentacle between her foot and a tree.

The culprit turned out to be what they were searching for. Though what she saw couldn’t be called a human anymore... While it looked like one in shape and size, the big structure of the humanoid plus all those tentacles cracking like whips around it made it more demonic. It moved its lips as if to say something but no sounds other than a few grunts came out. Was it crying?

Minh was not one to pursue or do much unless given reason to or had to in order to accomplish a task or mission that was his responsibility to finish. In this case, he was pulled along on a mission only because it was not of the norm. In the case of today, a fellow senior of the guild warned him of a package that arrived at one of his fellow guild-mates and that they were heading off to the Spooky Forest to do something. Apparently another was already joining her as well, but he decided to come along as the silent ally just in case things went south. As expected, Cheepie was alongside him the whole way as he caught up with the small group only revealing the guild mark on his chest before walking alongside them towards their destination. The forest was claustrophobic to an extent with its forestry and wildlife adding to the ominous nature of this place, but in this case, it seemed things were much worse. Not a single howl or even sighting of life was present as soon as they made their way deeper into the forest. Such a revelation was worrying at best as it meant there was a presence here making a mess of things. Or, there was a presence here that frightened the native wildlife into taking shelter which could mean whatever had forced these three to come here must be of the supernatural persuasion. Not really his favorite of foes, but he was not hesitant to deal with any eldrich horror they might come across if needed.

Cheepie had been giving the four humans a good lookout, but it was clear that whatever they were hunting was almost nowhere to be seen. At least, that was the case before the small birdie noticed the dark, unpleasant energies that grew thicker and thicker around them. The Spooky Forest was always like this, but this was much worse than usual and held a nearly hostile aura that jutted through his instincts like a spear. Soon the little being was letting out alarmed cheeps at the same time Eclipse was overtaken by an unknown force, and Minh was alarmed as well by the minor attack waged upon the group already. When she was taken away by a tentacle, the two were in hot pursuit.

By the time she stopped, the figure stood before them all with Eclipse still on the ground recovering from her little ordeal. Minh was somewhat surprised to find this humanoid figure being taller than him by just over half a foot with a mass of tentacles surrounding it. Its face was featureless save for what can be considered a mouth that looked more manifested than an actual part of the being. Whatever it was, Minh was not going to attempt anything of a peaceful nature seeing that it held some malevolent nature. He rushed forward like a bull while Cheepie instantaneously shifted into a primordial predator standing over ten feet to tower the unknown entity. Minh struck first into the mass of tendrils that cracked onto him like steel whips before his fist found its mark, crashing into the best who struck back just as fearsome. Minh did not let up and grappled with the being as it tried to pry him off with its many tentacles only to find its flank smashed intro by Cheeptor who tried to wedge its head before his jaws only to be stopped by an arm and several other tendrils. In its overextending choice of staving both of them off, Minh took the opportunity to lunge forth with a knee kick straight into the abdomen of the entity with little effect as it smacked him back down with a headbutt that sounded like a thinderclap upon impacting Minh's forehead. The avian beast swiped its claws wildly, slicing through and into the numerous tendrils, slowly pushing its way forward ever closer into the humanoid foe who was deadlocked by now.

Gold Rush Lineage ---> Passive #2; Siblings Gain +1x Strong Armour

The siblings, Kaede and Miyuki Tachibana weren't here because they cared for the other two. They didn't come because it was adventure, or because it was mysterious. There was no riches involved that they cared for either, the only reason the siblings came along was the simple fact that their guild master made them go. An order came for them from one of the guild's aces, but Miyuki simply shredded it upon seeing who it was from. Only an hour later they were face to face with Hika, who directly spoke to Miyuki, taking advantage of the shorter woman's absolute hatred for her and tricked her into going along. The whole trip through the forest was boring for the two of them, neither cared for the dark figures lurking about, the low lighting of the forest, or the eerie silence. For them, nothing was more terrifying than the force of nature that made them join Sabertooth. The dragon that killed their family, and left them both to watch each others backs while playing warrior when they were nothing more than average farmers. The trip became a bit less stupid when hey came across some monster made of shadows, and having no shortage of tendrils to attack with. A group of the black whips launched out at the siblings as the largest member of the group went in for an attack. Kaede quickly slipped in front of Miyuki with his large, wooden shield in front him and used it to block the multitude of black weapons. They all got stuck in Kaede's shield, taking the opportunity Miyuki jumped onto the cable like items and ran along them, charging directly at their opponent. Jumping again, using the tendrils as a type of spring board, Miyuki began spinning as her momentum carried her towards the opponent. Her two blades held outward, the small woman had been made to a spinning death top, quickly slashing into the being as it let out a howl of pain. Several tendrils lashed out, sending her flying across the clearing the group was fighting in. Kaede too went flying when the monster pulled its tendrils, still stuck in the shield so hard that Kaede couldn't adjust to the action.

Miyuki twisted herself in a way that allowed her feel to land flat against one of the trees. Pushing off the tree, Miyuki cause the leaves to shake off with the sheer force behind her kick which in turn allowed a blast of light to ram into the shadow being. Kaede, having no time to even think of pulling his arm from the shield was being tossed around, constantly being jerked as the flailing tendrils changed direction abruptly over and over again in an attempt to free themselves. Miyuki began running around to the front side of the beast, dodging several tendrils that attempted to impale her as she moved. She quickly jumped sideways, landing into an evasive commando roll as five tendrils slammed the ground one by one in rapid succession. She reeled an arm back, holding one of her rusted blades while taking aim. Miyuki threw the sword with all her strengths, not bothering to watch to see if she hit her mark. Kaede watched as a rusted object slashed through the tendrils, causing him to begin to fall. He landed in a tucked position, allowing him to roll a little instead of taking the full force of the fall. He quickly ran up to his sister, using his buckler shield to deflect a few more tendrils. The two looked at each other with a very strange, but confident look as if they were using some telepathic power to create a plan of action, in only the way true siblings could ever do.

A quick nod as the plan was agreed upon, and Miyuki began charging with Kaede directly behind her. A set of tendrils came in "Switch!" Miyuki called while jumping. At that moment Kaede lunged forwards and bashed the tendrils, Miyuki's momentum keeping her moving forwards. Kaede spun around while blocking, causing the tendrils to shoot off the the side and allowing him to speed up and catch up with his sister. Kaede watched his sister blast through a wall of tendrils with her sword, revealing their partner and his pet keeping the monster's hands occupied. "Switch!" Miyuki called, signaling Kaede to come in and bash the being with his shield so hard that it stumbled back slightly. "Switch!" Kaede called, signaling Miyuki to run up and use his back as a spring board. She had gotten enough height to reach her sword to the beasts face where she slammed it down into. The force made their opponent hit the floor, and pinning it in place. The shadowy being dispersed into the mist around, and soon the mist disappeared. Several pages were left on the ground, but Miyuki didn't care for it."Kai, job's over. Let's roll." she said with an annoyed tone. On the way out, she felt something below her feet, a piece of armour that Kaede happily picked up.
