The cards originate from the usage of special card holders that create the cards based on the user's need and magic power fed to the holder. The cards are versatile and can be used for various purposes and with proper expense of MP, the user is effectively given an unlimited amount of card ammunition and more than one card can be thrown at once for an effective and diverse magic combo in combat. And Phantom Card Magic's most prized spell is the ability to copy another mage's spell and add it to the user's arsenal.
Strengths:
- Efficiency - different cards and spells can be used in tandem to suit different situations and have low cooldowns.
- Availability - a card's lifespan is infinite once generated and will remain ready for use until it's either thrown or activated.
- Accuracy - The cards are normally compact and move at incredibly high speeds. They are naturally difficult to dodge with movement alone, though they can be blocked or evaded through the use of magic.
- Adaptability - Phantom Card Magic can copy one spell for each rank (so as long as the user is at that rank) and allow the user to use such spell as his own whether as a support spell or to add it to his deadly chain of card attacks.
- Weight - cards more or less all weigh the same and can average up to 80 mph each and travel around 30 or so meters perfectly before shifting downward beyond that mark.
Weaknesses:
- Reliance on constant attacks - each card spell on its own won't do much good and must be used repetitively or along with other spells for maximum effectiveness, which means more MP spent.
- Lack of Close Quarter Spells - cards are meant to be thrown and not used as daggers. Therefore, any mage within a close radius can easily overpower Phantom Card Magic with brute force.
- Limited Imitation - user can only copy a limited amount of spells.
- Source Weakspot - cards are created from a magic deck holder. If the deck holder is destroyed, no more cards can be made.
- Throwing Strength - thrown cards are dependent on how well and fast the user flings them. A shit throw from an injured user will have less-desired effect.
- Accuracy - most cards don't home onto targets so precise aim is required for a perfect hit. Environment and weather will also play a factor in a card's trajectory.
Abilities/Powers:
- Passive:
Name: Card Shroud
Rank: D
Type: Passive
Description: A natural passive spell that conceals Suoh's magic power, allowing him to hide his presence easily from mages that can detect others via magic sensing so as long as he has a magical deck holder in his possession.
Strengths: This passive makes Suoh much harder to detect through other means aside from being physically seen.
Weaknesses: None.
Name: Sinister Curse
Rank: D
Type: Passive/Debuff
Description: A natural passive spell that causes Suoh to be much more sensitive to any magic have the ability to curse or debuff others. (See backstory.)
Strengths: None.
Weaknesses: Doubles any curse durations inflicted on Suoh.
- Spells:
Name: Sharp Card
Rank: D
Type: Offensive
Description: A red card with silver outlining that Suoh can use. The card has edges that are sharp enough to pierce through leather and weak metal as well as being able to travel up to 30 meters. It is represented by a sword.
Strengths:- Simple to use and most practical.
- Card can be generated as many times as needed for repeated/combined use.
- Small and fast enough to make it difficult to be seen.
Weaknesses:- Useless against heavy or strong armor/material.
- Weak on its own.
- 2 post cooldown.
- Can only inflict scratch/splinter/puncture wounds, severe at worst and usually never fatal.
- Cards can be thrown back if caught.
Name: Smoke Card
Rank: D
Type: Supportive/Defensive
Description: A red card with dull gray outlining that Suoh can throw up to 30 meters. Upon impact, it will generate a white powdered cloud around a 5 meter radius that can be used as a smokescreen to either distract an opponent or make a quick getaway. It is represented by clouds.
Strengths:- Thick enough to block a good deal of sight.
- Has a good AoE to allow a safe getaway.
- Will activated on contact once thrown so it cannot be thrown back.
- Has a 1 post cooldown.
Weaknesses:- Does not deal damage.
- Card cannot be activated at will. It must hit (or be hit) with sufficient force (i.e from a throw, stomp, punch, slash, etc) or it will not pop smoke.
- Smoke only has a one post duration after its used.
- Smoke can be cleared up by external factors.
- User cannot see through smoke either.
Name: Magic Card (D)
Rank: D
Type: Varies
Description: A transparent card with a glowing copper magic circle embedded on it that Suoh can throw. Its first purpose is to absorb a spell from another mage and its second purpose gives Suoh the ability to use said spell as his own. The card has a 30 meter range.
Strengths:- ANY D-rank Spell is susceptible of being copied.
- Most adaptable cards since it can copy spells and used them with the same effect.
- Can be used at the same time with other cards.
- Will permanently replicate a spell unless said spell is removed or replaced.
- Card can be thrown and then activated at will similar to remote detonation.
- Card does not have to be thrown to use its effect.
Weaknesses:- Can only copy one spell at a time.
- Card must come in physical contact with a spell to copy.
- User also must know the name and have a visual idea of the copied spell to use it. It also has to be remembered.
- Cannot copy spells of higher ranks.
- MP is required to create/re-summon the card (in this case, it's 10% for all D-ranked spells).
- To activate a copied spell, it requires the same amount of MP needed for the original (presumably also 10%, totaling up to 20% use of MP when added with the requirement above).
- Shares the same strengths, duration, weaknesses, limits, and cooldowns of the original spell.
- The card itself has a 2 post cooldown. However, it still has to factor in the cooldown of the original spell if it's longer as stated above.
- Card is one-of-a-kind. That means this card cannot be generated twice at the same time.
- Card can be thrown back or elsewhere if the user is not aware of it.
- Simple to use and most practical.
