    Job:

Mrs. Cartigan led Emilia and the others out of her house and into her garden. She was a nice lady, clearly up in her years, but still fairly active, and quite adorable. She was the type to treat nearly everyone like her grandchild. She spoke to them as she shuffled out in front. "Thank you so very much for helping me, dears. I've looked for hours, but I just can't seem to find it. I would shrink down to get it myself, but I'm just an old woman now, nowhere near capable of protecting myself against the beasts of the microworld. They can be ever so fearsome." They stopped at right about the center of the lush garden, which was absolutely teeming with plants of not only Fiore, but of various countries throughout Earthland. The woman clearly took pride in her work. "Alright, it was about here where I noticed I had lost it, but I'm not sure how long it took me to notice, so it could be fairly far off. Well far off for you anyway. Distance is really such a relative thing. Now, then, I'll shrink you all down and go make some cookies for when you get back as a little extra reward. Good luck dears, and stay safe! I'm sure you can handle everything just fine!" She smiled cutely at the group and took a few steps toward the house so she wouldn't accidentally step on them when walking back. Without waiting for any response, she began to cast a spell. Her hands glowing purple as a rune appeared under the group. Suddenly, everything would be growing taller and taller, until Mrs. Cartigan appeared the size of a mountain. As the group shrunk, so did the rune. Mrs. Cartigan had explained earlier that they need only step on the rune to grow back to normal size if they found the ring or couldn't handle the creatures of the microworld. They needn't worry about the ring growing, as all it did was reverse the shrinking spell on them, not cast a growth spell. They would hear the booming of her feet as she shuffled off inside.

Emilia had been quiet while they were with Mrs. Cartigan. Now she looked around a bit. At this size, the world seemed so much more strange. The ground itself teemed with countless small creatures, too small for humans to notice normally. They were assured that these creatures were harmless. There was a sort of beauty of it all, to see just how much life there truly was in the world. But enough of the mushy stuff, there were more interesting happenings. Marick, one of the guild aces, a guild ACE had decided to accompany them on a C-ranked mission. Emilia hadn't had any of this explained to her yet, so she was still quite confused by it, though she didn't really bother to question it. Maybe it was just a thing he did to get to know new members. He was using a limiter, after all. Besides, they had a job to do. "Well, she seemed nice enough. I guess better get to finding that ring for her. She pulled Trauma off of her belt and swung it up to rest it on her shoulder. She was already carrying her shield in her hand. "Any ideas where we should look first?"

Well this job was going to be interesting.

Marick had remained fairly relaxed and quiet, allowing the two younger mages to speak with the client so that he could see how they treated others on their jobs. It was by no means him checking on them of course. No, that would be for any future exams he may end up giving them. This was simply out of curiosity and to get to know how the duo worked. The client, Mrs Cartigan, had certainly been a friendly old soul, but helpful...not so much. Still at least she was aware that her ring was in the garden SOMEWHERE. At first it seemed like this job was going to be far too simple to have the three of them here, but as she began to explain the job to them Marick became all too aware of just why she'd requested such aid.

And before he could ask her anything, they were suddenly the size of ants.

"...well then...this is certainly a first even for me." the Ace chuckled before rolling his shoulder to loosen it up. "This garden is far too hectic to consider splitting up, as we'd probably never find one another again at our size. She said she'd noticed she'd lost it around here, so we should search the immediate area first, then move further back the garden as she'd probably have started at the back and moved towards the back door."

Eli smiled as Mrs. Cartigan lead the group to her yard, making sure to remain as nice and polite as possible. She was going to pay them, after all. Making sure to stay on her good side wouldn't be a bad idea at all. Listening her plan exactly, he couldn't help but see several flaws with it; wouldn't it be easier to just shrink down to an average size where they could see the ring and not be small enough to have to fight an ant for their lives? He didn't say anything though; after all, she was paying. He gave her a friendly smile when she spoke. "Leave it to us ma'am. This should be a piece of cake for us, we'll have it back in no time." He gave her a small wave as she waked off, prepared to shrink down with his team.

He had to admit, at a smaller size, everything looked a lot more impressive. He could barely believe that this all around him was simply a garden before. Perspective really was everything. Still, he wasn't exactly too happy being made to this size; it put him at risk to so many things. Another idea sprung to his head; why not keep one of them large to deal with the threats while the other two searched. He sighed; he couldn't help but feeling this mission would be harder than it should be. At least they had Marick with them, that should lighten the load quite a bit. He wondered why the Ace had chosen to come with them. He figured it was most likely his way of evaluating the pair for himself, which meant that they had to make sure to show him just how amazing they were. "It'd probably be best to stick in the immediate area; wandering around too much would just waste time. I think going outwards in almost a circle from here would do best, we can meet up back here again if we run into trouble or we find something. Splitting up also has some high risks though. What do you two think?"

Emilia looked at Eli, "I think we should stick together. Hell knows you won't be able to make it here on your own." She grinned at him. "You'd probably get ambushed by a spider or something, and then I'd be without a punching bag." She looked around a bit. This would probably end up being a fairly fun mission. She had never thought she would consider bugs, like normal bugs to be a threat, then again, she had never thought she would be shrunken down to two centimeters tall either. She just hoped they didn't encounter any bees or wasps. She hated them enough when she was normal-sized, and certainly didn't need to deal with them at this size. "We should head to one of the thicker areas first. The ring sure as hell won't be out in the open, otherwise she would have found it. Searching in a circle will waste a lot of time. Let's focus on areas with a lot of plants." She looked to Marick. "I'll take point." She didn't particularly care if Marick was a guild ace or not. She liked taking point. Without waiting for a response, she started to walk off in the direction of the nearest cluster of plants, some type of flower that she didn't recognize. She idly wondered if any of the bugs could hear or smell them or something, and if they would come to investigate. She kind of hoped a few would, as she was eager to fight.

Marick raised an eyebrow upon Emi's statement. So she was taking point was she? Her confident demeanour and the way she had looked at Marick in particular was something that he was all too used to, but something he'd not experienced since the last mission he'd done with Matabei before she'd fled Fiore. His face broke into a smile which followed up with a warm chuckle as he looked over at Eli. "I feel for you." he said quietly, trying to ensure Emi didn't hear before he began following her as she headed towards some of the now massive plants and flowers nearby. As they walked Marick began to feel a slight rumble on the ground. It started off faint and he only just felt it, thus disregarded it at first. But the rumbling soon turned to thudding and pretty soon Eli and Emi would be able to hear it as well as feel it.

Marick turned around in time to spot a huge black beetle headed straight for the group, summoning forth Guilty Thorn as he jumped clear of the charging behemoth. "...well...I can't say this was unexpected." he mumbled to himself, gripping his sword tight. Now...to see if my training has paid off. Magic or no magic, I've got to make a good impression here to show the kid what Sabertooth is really about.

While Eli couldn't argue that splitting up would be dangerous, right now he felt that doing it in favor of ending this quicker seemed like the best idea. Mainly because he hated being so small that a caterpillar with attitude would be a threat to him. He didn't have a huge problem with bugs, but that didn't mean he liked feeling vulnerable as he did right now. He couldn't help but give Marick a confused expression at his gesture, not exactly sure what he felt. It was probably something personal to him. With a shrug, he followed the pair. Not like he cared that much about it.

If there were any ups to this job, the view was pretty impressive for it to say the least. It was definitely a once in a life time experience, and he liked it like that. He had no intention of experiencing this again. Feeling the rumble beneath his feet, Eli was immediately prepared to face whatever was after them. Recognizing the beetle, he instantly knew it would be annoying to deal with. Comparative to himself currently, it'd be like trying to attack a tank through it's shell. Since the beetle came up behind the pair, he and Marick were exposed to it, which meant he already had to make a tactical retreat. Emilia took the point for a reason; Eli was not a frontliner. Jumping back, he prepared a few cards for the first attack, but wanted to make sure that Emilia got it's attention first. "And round one begins. At least we don't have to deal with a foot or light breeze; then we might be in trouble."

Emilia turned around, grinning, as she heard a rumbling noise from behind. Well finding a challenge certainly didn't take long. She decided that this would be fun. She wondered how thick that thing's shell was, as well as how hard it was, and how brittle. Well, I guess it's time to find out... She chuckled at the though and started to run toward the beetle. She hoped it would be at least a somewhat difficult fight, and that the thing's exoskeleton wouldn't just break open on impact. Once within range, she cast Bullheaded, and with a huge burst of noise, she dashed at the creature to slam into it. When she made impact, she detonated a force pulse with her shield. Unfortunately, she did hurt her arm a bit, as the beetle was heavier than her in this form. Still, that would heal quickly thanks to the spell given to her by her Sabertooth tattoo. As she hit it, Emi realized one unfortunate thing. This thing was likely one of those juicy bugs that pop everywhere when squished. Now she REALLY hoped she wouldn't just shatter its skeleton. Being covered in bug goo from the very beginning would be less than pleasant, and she would never hear the end of it from Eli. Now that she had distracted the beetle with her attack, Eli and Marick could probably kill it without too much difficulty. She wondered what sort of magic Marick would use.

Well it was clear that Emi was taking point for a reason and Marick almost felt as if he were in the way as he began to realise how the duo worked. Emi acts as a tank, soaking up any attacks and keeping the opposition focused on her. Eli...he works with cards too. Ranged. I see. A smile spread across the Ace's face. There was still room for him in this trio after all. As Emi caused the beetle to skid back a few feet Marick then stepped forward  to cut in front of his younger guildmate and performed and upward slash with Guilty Thorn.

The creatures antenna came clean off, along with one of its legs as it had been attempting to steady itself. Now with only five legs and no antenna it wouldn't be able to sense anything in front of it properly and certainly wouldn't find it easy to charge for it. Marick's run also ensured that the beetle was focused in the direction of himself and Emi, giving Eli a completely free strike. What Marick hadn't considered was the beetle's reaction to the attack. As the blade came through the last limb the beetle responded by writhing its head out, headbutting Marick backwards behind Emi. "Factoring our size change into this is a pain in the ass."

Post by Arsene Mayura July 20th 2014, 8:14 am

Watching the pair rush head on at the battle, Eli felt a smile creep to his face. He remembered Marick mentioning that he didn't have his magic anymore, so he was a little worried about how he would hold up today, but he was proving himself with shining colors. His damage was fairly decent, and he was acting a secondary meatshield alongside Emilia. The more things between the target and him, he better. Reading 3 cards in his hand, he prepared to lay down a hopeful finishing move on the already wounded creature.

He wanted to try and exterminate it quickly, and not crush it and drown them all in beetle remains. Ignis seemed like the best answer to that. About to unleash fiery hell on the creature, he stopped to think for a moment; was his magic actually scaled down with him? He had no idea. He assumed no, but he wasn't certain at all. If it wasn't, a single Ignis would be comparable to a sun to them right now, and a Ventus would blow them away to their deaths. Still, there was no better way to find out than testing. Throwing three Ignis cards at the creature, he ignited them all and wondered how it would go for them; fiery death or roasted beetle. As the cards hovered above the beetle, the exploded into three 1cm wide balls of fire before exploding. Well, that answered the question. With a wide smile he called out to the other two. "Good news everyone. I have determined my spells will not be big enough to roast us all alive. Science has progressed even more today." Hopefully, that attack should be enough to end the beetle, but he couldn't be certain with his current powered down state.

The beetle let out various clicking and squealing sounds as it was hit by Marick and Emilia's attacks. Emi was somewhat impressed by Marick, since he didn't seem to be using any magic at the moment, though she wasn't too sure if he was any good yet. After all, it was only one enemy. He did score a good hit though. Eli's ignis cards ignited atop the beetle, scortching its carapace and causing it to light on fire. It started to flail violently, Emi managed to block one hit with her shield, stepping back to avoid the panicking creature. With a large amount of rumbling, it scurried around before falling over, dying from its burns and injuries, its legs curling up in the way all those who have seen dead insects would recognize.

Emilia chuckled. "Well that was kind of a fun start. I'm a bit disappointed that Trauma didn't crack it open, though." She shrugged. "Come on, let's get back to searching. So far this job is a peace of cake. Factoring in our size change isn't really that difficult. It's all relative, just act like you're fighting giant insects. No difference now." She rolled her eyes at Eli. "Good job discovering something that's already been figured out. Now let's get moving, Mr. Science, and try not to have more stuff come up behind us. I don't like having to run back and forth like this." She said, moving back to the front once more.

A sudden surprise attack ended in a quick dispatch of the beetle, something Marick expected but found impressive nonetheless. Emi and Eli's teamwork was that which the Ace hadn't seen in a long time. But what was more obvious was the friendship the two had, albeit rather a lopsided friendship. The more this job progressed, the more he was reminded of Matabei and Hidate. Oh how he missed them. A small and quiet sigh left his lips as a warm smile crept across his face. Matabei was safe now at least. Hidate...well, he always did whatever was best for his future so Marick was sure he was doing fine. His attention then turned solely to Eli. "Card Magic eh? You've won yourself a fan. Used to use that myself." He chuckled and then turned his attention instead to Emi. "I see now why you take the lead too. Take all enmity away from Eli whilst you deal the damage. Nothing annoys an opponent more than when you simply won't go down."

After those words the Ace began looking around at their surroundings. They hadn't moved all that far away from where they'd started but then again this was a massive garden now. They could've walked five minutes and the scenery wouldn't be all that different. "Shall we continue onwards then Emilia?"
