The Tapered Rose (Closed: Private)

The black sky was sprinkled with stars, the moon hung high in the sky. The stars seemed to twinkle, and no one knew why. The place seemed to be silent, much as well as broken. No one seemed to speak a word, no sentence was spoken.

A cloaked man took his drink, something that would be burning. He hadn't spent a jewel, not a cent of his earning. Kaseki sipped his glass, something of amber color. His thoughts traveled back in time, to the thought of his brother.

The bar was empty except for two men. Kaseki said, "Well I be dammed." He smiled and took up his drink. He wanted only peace and quiet for his to think...

And so he waited, in the bar alone... His face emotionless, his heart as cold as stone...

John looked around the Tapered Rose, besides him and a cloaked man that seemed to be drinking something, was the bartender. The bandaged man looked down at the bar in front of him, raising the glass containing the golden liquid he had taken such a liking to after the night that had tur ned him into what he was now. A burned man, his torso, his face and his arms was all covered in the treated fire safe bandages.

The cold orange liquid burned against the inside of his mouth as he took a sip from the glass. He heard the man speak as he sat by his table alone, John didn't respond, honestly he didn't care. He sipped his whiskey once more and looked down at his hands. His arms was covered in a black robe and his hands covered by bandages, not normal bandages however. These were treated with a spell that allowed him to utilize his magic without burning away his clothes. He took another sip of the whiskey, thinking back at his family which had died about two years ago in about two weeks. He sighed and finished the glass, pushing it away from him and motioned for the bartender to give him another drink.

Kaseki lifted his hand, "Aye, Kyon, get this man a real drink." he told the bartender. The man looked at the other that was wrapped in bandages and nodded at Kaseki. He turned around and took out a key. He pressed it into a lock on the shelf...

"So, you come here often? Heh," Kaseki joked, "They call me Kaseki, or rather, the plant man. What brings you here, stranger?" asked the hooded man.

"Here you go sir. It's on the house." said the bartender. He placed a full liter bottle of whiskey in front of the most recent customer. "It's Kaseki's special import, the 'Dragon's Tooth'. It's been aged for longer than you would think, in barrels you would never imagine..."

Kaseki seemed to be smiling as he sipped his drink.

John looked over hia shlulder as he heard the voice behind him, telling someone to give him a 'real' drink. Raising what was left of his brow under the bandages and looked at the cloaked man as he asked whether he often came to this place or not.

"Often enough, stranger." he replied with his rough voice. Looking up at the bartender and nodding as he pulled out the whiskey and raised a brow at the description of the drink and uncorked the bottle as it was put down in front of him.

Taking the empty glass he poured himself some whiskey and smelled the fluid. It had a strong smell, but he liked it that way. Taking a sip from it he shrugged and nodded at the bartender.

Kaseki turned to the man. "That's a 30 year old bottle, aged in the most rare of woods." He took the final sip of his drink and placed it on the table. "Your sip alone was over a million jewels. That drink is one of the great money sources of Dragon Fang Exports and Imports. Heh." He turned back in his seat.The old man poured him another glass from a red can. "You wouldn't believe the money I make from that island..." his voice trailed off, being cut off by another sip of the drink.

As the stranger turned towards him John took another sip from the glass, moving the whiskey around inside his mouth and then swallowing it, quite enjoying the slight burning sensation from the high percentage drink.

"I've had better." He said, sure it was quite good, no doubt expensive, but John had in his opinion had better whiskey before. Raising the glass once more he took another sip of whiskey and then put down the glass again.

Kaseki looked away to his glass again, this time in disappointment. He nodded to the bartender and he replied the same. He went back to the cabinet to retrieve a larger bottle. The old man placed it in front of the bandaged man. He uncorked it and walked away.

"Aye, that thing is worth more than the whiskey..." the bartender told Kaseki.

Kaseki smiled as he spoke to his guest. "You have the taste of liquor, yes? I find no joy in such drinks. However, I present you something that is something... that is something...." Kaseki seemed to be baffled by his own creation. He stumbled upon his own words before finally explaining. "This bottle is a wine aged over a century, something so pure in taste, yet so fragile. A secret to humans, you shall be the first to taste it with a human tongue. However, you must not enjoy such a thing, right? Let me shape this to your liking..."

Kaseki reached out to the bottle and simply touched it. The glass bottle flashed a light, and that's all that appeared to change... physically. However the scent was different. Whiskey?

"Now... I know who you are, weather you think so or not. A mage of Nox Animus. Hmph, a funny place. They pay me a great deal to get things done that are out of their reach." he turned to face the man once more, "But have you heard of Dragon Fang?"

The young, black haired freedom fighter entered the bar and sat her usual place on the stools. "Mr. Onihara, I'd like the usual." She said simply as she leaned against her arms. She had had a rough day and perhaps a few drinks would ease it up. The old man smiled and shook his head good naturedly as he made his way towards her. "So young and already drinking. It's not good for little girls to drink." Kyonshi joked as he took out a key and unlocked a shelf. He took off the cork and placed the drink in front of her. "How many times do I have to tell you to call me Kyon?" The bartender said as his eyes sparkled in warm and wisdom. Bea grinned, "I call you Mr. Onihara out of respect, sir." The old man turned to look at her with a grin. "Well, out of respect call me Kyon." He laughed good heartedly and walked towards the cashier. Bea smiled and took a sip of the wine in front of her. The wine in front of her had a hard, rich taste, quite unlike any she had had before. "It's different. New brand?" She asked curiously. She had tried various brands, but the Dragon Fang varieties always seemed to surprise her. "It's Dragon Toenail, the best of the wines that Dragon Fang has to offer." The bartender said proudly. "I can see why." She said appreciatively before taking another sip. From the  corner of her eyes, she spotted Kaseki and a stranger who wore bandages talking... more of Kaseki doing the talking and the man just listening. As there was no one else beside the four of them in the bar, she decided to accompany them. Taking the drink, she neared them and sat down. "Hello Kaseki and stranger." She said warmly.

John looked at the bottle that was put down in front of him as the bartender told the stranger that this bottle was more expensive than the previous bottle he had been drinking from. John shrugged and reached out just after as the stranger reached out as well, watching as the bottle began to glow slightly then dimmed down. John wrapped his bandaged fingers around the bottle and lifted it, sniffing the opening and raised what was left of his brow at the scent.

He raised the bottle and took a quick swig from it and washed the whiskey around in his mouth and swallowed it. "I've had better." He said, again, this Whiskey did taste good as well, but not as good as the one he kept as the best Whiskey he ever had tasted. The Whiskey he had taken from those who had killed his family and burned him, he had found the bottle in the house they were staying in and had taken it before burning it down. The sweet taste of revenge had made it the best whiskey he had ever tasted and probably will ever taste.

John looked over at the black haired girl that had entered the bar as well, he raised a brow as she heard him call someone Kaseki, the stranger perhaps? Who apparently worked indirectly for John's guild. "You don't know anything about me."

Kaseki began to laugh, "Ah, fire is a great thing, isn't it? " Kaseki always found it funny when people failed to realize what Dragon Fang has truly become. "I know more about you than you could know. I don't know it all, but I have access to it all. Your guild? Who do you think gets the shipments there? I do. Who do you think they ask to go fetch the equipment? Me. truth is, Nox Animus is like my second home, and I don't even belong to the guild... but that place.. that place is full of my kind..." He looked at John with a sinister look, "And my kind is Dragon Fang."

The laughing tone from the man called Kaseki hit a bad spot within John, the tone felt taunting and made him very annoyed by the way he talked. The way he acted like he'd be able to find out what had happened to John's family, who they were and what they liked. Kaseki acted like someone who thought he was on top of everything, knew everything and everyone.

John looked up from the counter and looked at Kaseki, the sinister look on his face was enough. He stood up and pushed the chair backwards with his foot, reaching out his hand he grabbed at Kaseki's neck on the outside of his robe, pushing him down against the counter.

Holding him down against the counter with his left hand he put down his right a couple of inches away from the opening of the hood. "You know nothing about me. If Fire is so great, maybe you want to feel it? Feel it like I have, burning across your body, burning your soul away?" John spoke lowly with his rough voice.

Suddenly there was a series of clicking sounds, the sound of knocking. The hooded figure seemed to fall apart. His feet dropped to the ground, his arms fell lifeless, it was...

A voice echoed from the back of the bar, "I like you!" said a familiar voice. "Against all odds you were really going to take me on in this place, well done Mr.Walker." Kaseki sat in a booth, his hands held in front of him. Upon a closer look you could see the strings wrapped around his fingers. The string extended to the ceiling and were cast to the doppelganger below. "I apologize for pushing your buttons, but like the rest, I have to see how far you'll take yourself." He smiled. "Now I understand your anger, that is of my fault, however, you have passed the test. You decided to fight those that challenge you, that is magnificent. Mr. Zenneth must be proud to have you aboard." Kaseki smiled at his bartender. He appeared to be surprised at the entire event. "Aye, make sure John Walker gets what he wants, he is a wise man, and a powerful one at that."

Kaseki could smell is whiskey, as well as his experimental drink. He didn't dare tell Kyonshi about the drink... He did tell him it was a secret, but none but Kaseki and his daughters knew where drink sat, or what it did you your mind.

It was know as The Dragon's Breath... A horrid drink, bending ones mind and soul to match ones body. Kaseki let a human drink it once... And that human is no longer so...

John looked as the figure fell apart within his grasp and then looked behind him as he heard the voice coming from behind once more. He turned around and looked at the figure once more. Raising his brow as Kaseki said that he was testing him and that his guild leader should be proud to have him in the guild. He blinked at him and looked at the bartender as Kaseki told him to get him what he wanted. "Smoky Whiskey." he said and sat down on a new chair.

Kaseki nodded and the old man went to fetch the drink. "A man of few words. I like it. Now what if I told you that somehow... some way... we could give you more power, more freedom... and maybe some time down the road... we can give you your family back." Kaseki reached out to a small glass in front of him and sipped from it. "I know you might think they're gone forever... but what do you think spirits do? All we do is work between worlds.. and in my society, we can bring them back... maybe not all of them... but some of them." He placed down the crystal cup, "Would you join Dragon Fang?"

John nodded at the Bartender as he was given the drink and took a sip from it when he heard that Kaseki had a way to bring back some of his family who had died in the fire that had reduced his family home to the ground. He looked down at the orange liquid in the glass, squeezing the glass but not shattering it.

He took a few breaths and looked over his shoulder. "...fine!"

Kaseki smiled. He thought of the power that the man harnessed. He thought about the great fires that he could produce... then Kaseki thought about the Graveyard. Kaseki would keep his promise, but he wondered what his powers could do alone. Surely he could bring life and restore the dead, surely he would walk the fate... but where was the body.

Kaseki smiled as he walked to the man, "Perfect." he said with assurance. He pulled a small black pouch from his pocket and put it on the counter. "Inside this bag is a dice. I want you to roll it. With it... we can give you power."

John sipped the whiskey in his glass, letting the liquid burn against the inside of his mouth slightly before he swallowed, he raised the glass one more time and sipped it again as Kaseki walked up to him and put a small black pouch next to him, he took the pouch and moved his hand from the glass, opening it and taking out the dice from its container. He looked down at the dice and shrugged slightly before rolling it.

Kaseki watched as the dice simply changed and fell apart. It turned into four shards. Kaseki put them in the pouch and walked down the hall of the bar. He knew the power of those shards... he knew what he could do with them. "Perfect." Kaseki uttered."Now let's see what we can do about your family..."
