    Spoiler:

"That's disgusting, Meep." Aegiel had to look away as the tiny viper swallowed a monstrous rat whole. He surpressed a shudder as he eyed the abandoned wharf with a wary expression, wondering just what he had gotten himself into this time. Something about.. Aegiel took out the flyer for his newest job, peering closely at the tiny lettering. "Defeat the cursed plants....demons need extermination....don't destroy crops...meet at harbor 22 in order to secure means of transport...blah blah blah. And that's about it." He scratched his head, getting his finger caught in a stray knot of green hair. "This is harbor 22. So why don't I see- OHMYGODWHAT?!" Spinning around in a flurry of muffled curses and pure panic, he met the gaze of the sneaky little man who had tapped his shoulder and scared the living daylights out him. "Hellooo." The old man gave a dainty wave with the tips of his fingers, smiling brightly. "You are the mage who was sent to help the village, no? Come, come. I have a vessel awaiting ya." Before he could so much as belch (if he were so inclined) Aegiel was dragged onto a tiny rowboat and headed straight for said village. Only too late did he recall his chronic fear of the ocean, and his terrified cries could be heard for miles around. Or so he thought.

Aegiel's face was greener than his hair by the time he managed to haul his sorry carcass off the dilapidated raft. Never. Again.

    20 hours later...

Aegiel was walkin' along a well-trodden path that lead to the outskirts of Beanstalk Village. The villagers claimed it was where the sightings of the cursed plants had first originated, and Aegiel planned to "cut out the heart of the beast". So to speak. He walked by an empty cornfield, eyeing the tilled dirt with trepidation and a healthy amount of caution. The villagers said the vile veggie-demons would pop out of the most unexpected places. Even the irrigation system was perilous, and the Village Elder swore he spotted a most suspicious-looking leaf floating in his bathtub. At this point, he was ready for anything. Except dancing squash. No one, he thought, is ever prepared for the sight of dancing squash. It's just not doable. lost in his own fantasy-land, he didn't notice as his feet marched straight off the marked path and into a dense copse of trees. Dead, smelly, juice-splattered trees. A few minutes of ominous silence later, Aegiel's danger-senses sheepishly raised the alarm. And just in time.

A pack of broccoli...moved their way out of the trees, evil red eyes focused on Aegiel. As one, they...moved forward, intent on squishing Aegiel like a pancake. But he was one step ahead of the charging vegetables. No sooner had they sprung into view had the nimble Fatewalker begun sprinting directly at them, he blood of his serpent ancestors hissing through his veins and fueling every step he took. The broccoli never wavered, proving Aegiel's hunch correct. If they were a planning, coordinated group, they would have circled around Aegiel, trapping him and closing the circle until he had nowhere left to go. A mischievous grin split his face as whipped out his staff, closing the distance between him and the nearest green. Using the wooden pole as a lever, he sprang over the charging plants and nailed two on the top of their...heads, he supposed. Meep took advantage of the maneuver to slither out of Aegiel's sleeve and leap onto an injured broccoli, sinking her poisonous fangs into its cloraplast-filled veins and jumping back onto Aegiel's shoulder as he thudded into the hard ground. Grinning, he turned just in time to duck an uppercut from the injured plant. Those things are fast! The rest of the plants had already spun around and resumed their linear charge, sparing Aegiel not a moment's rest. This, he thought, was going to be difficult .

Aegiel was gonna get nailed. He could feel the wind as the furious plant's fist flew past him and smashed into the tree which Aegiel was currently backed up against. So he breathed in its...face. A cloud of noxious gas enveloped it, and it was still. Aegiel had no time to wonder why a plant was affected by something that required its victim to breath as he scrambled up the trunk of the tree, making sure he gave the paralyzed broccoli a solid *THUNK* on its....head as he made his way up onto the higher branches. The plant collapsed, which gave Aegiel a small measure of hope. At least, until the rest of the plants gathered around his tree and started bashing it with their...heads. Aegiel moaned as the sturdy tree shuddered at the impact and came up with a rather shoddy plan. The plants were a relatively unorganized lot, and Aegiel planned to use that to his advantage. He let Meep, who was familiar with the way Aegiel's odd brain worked, slither down the trunk and into the leaf-thingies of a bark-bashing veggie. After a moment, it started to spin in circles. After about ten seconds of spinning (which Aegiel would have found entertaining in a more ideal situation) the withering plant fell over and was still. The rest of its demon-possessed kin ignored it, and Aegiel watched with crossed-fingers as Meep silently leapt out of the dead plant and into the....head of another. Aegiel had to admit, his plan was working out quite well. And then his tree came crashing down.

Aegiel instinctively called out to his magic, twisting the laws of reality ever-so-slightly in his favor. He landed on his feet, ancestor's blood surging through his veins the moment his feet touched upon the grassy ground. He had nowhere to go as he was flanked by two plants, who bent themselves backward like vegetable gymnasts and slammed their...heads down with enough force to pulverize rock. Aegiel saw Destiny realign itself as the broccoli thudded into one another with an audible *SPLAT*, oozing green stuff everywhere. Aegiel, unharmed and dripping green gloop, gave a mental cheer as noticed that most of the vicious greens were dead or dying, Meep's poison too much for their sensitive system's to handle.

Three out of four of the remaining broccoli-demons charged him, out for blood. The other one was spinning like a top, careening wildly onto tree after tree. So fascinated was Aegiel by the spectacle that he didn't register the first broccoli's punch until it missed him completely, smashing stem-first into a rock behind him. The next vegetable suffered slightly better luck, still missing Aegiel but staying on its....feet. Unfortunately for Aegiel, the third time was the charm. As the engraved and demon-possessed veggie's fist collided with Aegiel's face, it was lights out for him. The last thing he remembered before blacking out was a while flash that flew towards his attacker, and the broccoli's fist drawing back for another punch before all went dark.

Aegiel awoke to a bruised rib and swollen eye. Meep was cradled against his injured cheek, hissing softly. "Meep? I'm alive? I mean, we're alive?" He gazed around the clearing, withered corpses of dead demon greens littered about in a veritable salad. His memory was a bit hazy, but he assumed that Meep was the one who had saved his sorry ass from being pulverized to death. He winced as he stood, but other than the giant bruise blooming on his chest and his swollen right eye, he seemed fine. He walked away from the clearing with a skip in his step. His first demonic battle, and he had won! The trees rustled, and Aegiel's excitement withered. Who was he kidding? If this battle was anything like the last one, it was going to suck. Big time.
