The Road to Understanding (Kichiro's Exam Thread) Empty The Road to Understanding (Kichiro's Exam Thread)

Era; a city in the process of being reformed even over a year after Warden and Acnologia decimated every standing building. Marick looked over the city with glazed eyes as he remembered the day and the events that would transpire. Cause and effect. He wouldn't be where he was now had he not witnessed Era's destruction first-hand. He'd met Matabei who had become one of his greatest friends. He'd rescued Kara who'd grown into a fine young woman in such a short space of time. He himself taken a beating from Acnologia's attacks. It was very much the beginning of his unexpected journey of the past year. And so it seemed fitting that, as the city was being rebuilt, Marick would return and use the events as an opening point for a very special event.

That event was Kichiro Yukine's B-rank exam. Considering Marick himself was the only mage to have reached that rank - barring Zenshin and the recent addition of Frederik - it was unusual for him to be giving an exam for his very ranking. Nonetheless it had been Zenshin's will. Kichiro's road to understanding the virtues of the guild would have no better starting place than the very location that Marick for one had truly begun to follow the virtues himself. With this in mind, the Paragon of Selflessness had left a note on Kichiro's door stating that he wished to meet here at Era. He hoped that Kichiro would arrive accordingly.

Yukine had woken up early in the morning, fully energized to partake in another mission. This was his initial goal during the couple hours it took him to organize himself after waking up. However, it seemed he would do something else as a note was left on his door, right before he was about to leave his house. The note had mentioned that after a long wait of wanting to be tested for a new rank, Yukine had finally been accepted, and was required to meet his "challenger" in Era. Yukine had only been in Era once, and for a very brief amount of time. At this time, Yukine travelled to Era to pick up a legendary item as a reward for a mission. This time, however, he would go there to test himself as a Mage versus another person.

Yukine formed a loop in his pocket dimension, which swapped the note he held for the broomstick he received from a mission in Seven. Yukine sat on this broomstick immediately, afterwards, and once he locked his house up, Yukine soared through the air in the direction of Era, itself. With the speed of this broomstick, it didn't take awhile before Yukine found himself in the desired location. He was bedazzled to see that he would rank up in such a beautiful place. However, to his surprise, during the moment Yukine had set foot in the desired location, the boy saw the one who called him. "I've heard of you, but haven't seen you, surprisingly." Yukine remarked, a strange way to greet someone, "I'm Kichiro Yukine, and I was told to come here for something I have longed for ages: my exam." Yukine laughed after his last comment. It had actually been a short amount of time since Yukine had received C-Rank, so this exam wasn't as bothersome as Yukine made it seem. However, there was something missing, something that Yukine had not been informed of in the note. "So, how do you want to start this?" Yukine asked with a grin on his face.

"I've heard of you, but haven't seen you surprisingly."

The youthful voice announced the arrival of the younger Sabertooth mage as Marick turned to face him. Yukine introduced himself as politely as the Solitaire could've expected, although there were clear signs of eagerness in the boy's voice as well as in his words. The guild's Ace couldn't help but chuckle at the enthusiasm. "Your exam will start shortly, don't you worry about that. But first of all I want you to walk with me." he replied calmly, a smile across his lips as he turned and began to walk through the still dusty roads of a rebuilding Era. He glanced briefly at the remains of a building in the distance; the old Magic Council HQ. The head of the Council at that time was killed in the destruction, yet the council remained intact elsewhere it seemed, rebuilding just like Era was. Era was the Magic Council's home.

"As you're probably aware my name is Marick Lowell, Sabertooth's stand-in examiner. So...I'm going to cut right to the point here and ask you this outright. Kichiro Yukine...are you aware of the three virtues that Sabertooth holds in highest regard, and the 'dream' that the guildmaster and the master before him hold?" His smile had left his face now, but his voice remained warm, as if he were talking to a friend or perhaps a student. He was aware that this 'exam' was probably different to what the young man had been expecting.

At least he won't end up dying...

Yukine smiled at Marick's demand, and followed him just as he'd advised. As he walked with his fellow guild member, Yukine noticed a ruined building ahead of the two. He was startled as he could remember what this wrecked building was once for: the old Magic Council Headquarters. Just like Yukine's past, the chaos that had happened to this building must have been catastrophic- or rather- deadly. Albeit, Yukine just had to deal with it, and follow Marick until they had reached the rightful location of the exam. It seemed Era wasn't as developed as Yukine had thought, though a soothing wind passed by him as he came across this building; a refreshing breeze that told him everything was okay.

Yukine grinned shortly after the soothing wind passed, and listened carefully to Marick as he had more to discuss, frankly. "I am well-aware of you in the guild, Marick." Yukine commented, "Though we have endured a population crisis in Sabertooth, you, one of our strongest members, did not leave, and I am honoured to still see you by our side." Yukine gave Marick a thumbs-up and a brief, warm smile after his comment was made. His face became serious, after, however, as what Marick mentioned now became very important, and Yukine could tell just by the words, alone. "The three virtues of the guild, above all else, are selflessness, faith and conviction." Yukine remarked, "Additionally, the goal is to change Fiore- no- Earthland, into a paradise. Yukine sighed after he spoke these words. "As a highly loyal member of this guild, these words, since they had first been told to me, will never be forgotten, for as long as I live, Marick." Yukine concluded.

"Well I'm glad you appreciate my loyalty. However I should inform you that, when I first came to this guild, I had no intentions of sticking around for as long as I have. But that's something that I shall explain later on. Now, those three virtues; Selflessness, Conviction and Faith. They are all connected to that Paradise that we all are after. When Aegis Bright - Zenshin's mentor - first brought Sabertooth from the dust, he did so whilst holding on to those three virtues. Each of them can be interpreted in a different way of course, but his own views were all connected to Paradise."

Marick stopped briefly as a brick fell next to his feet, missing him by a matter of inches. The man who'd dropped it was a builder, and he was now apologising profusely. Marick chuckled and threw the brick back to the man, before turning to face Kichiro again. "Selflessness is the easiest to interpret as Aegis did; the willpower to disregard yourself for the sake of a greater cause. Of course, this isn't to say you have to be all heroic about it and put your life in harms way blindly for a cause.

Conviction is the belief that there CAN be a paradise, and that we will reach it. Never letting go of that belief, that dream. Every action you make is unwavering to achieve that greater goal.

And finally Faith, perhaps the one with the most interpretations. Faith could be viewed as having faith in your guildmates, your allies who are sworn to those same virtues that you yourself are sworn to. Unfaltering faith that, as a guild, we will always have each others backs and stand united as we search for that paradise. However, Faith could also be viewed in a different light; faith that paradise already exists somewhere for each and every one of us, waiting to be found."

Marick came to a stop now and released a sigh. "I fear these three virtues that the guild has built its foundations on are slowly being forgotten...and so I ask of you," The Solitaire turned and faced the younger mage, looking him directly in the eyes as he spoke with complete seriousness that was rather unbecoming of him "Would you fight for these virtues? Would you fight for that paradise and be willing to die for it without thought or hesitation?"

Yukine looked down and clenched his fists together when Marick spoke those deep words. "Yes." Yukine replied simply, "I will become Fiore's- no- the world's Number One ReQuip Mage, and use every ounce of my strength to fight for the paradise we dream, those dreamy days that are bound to come with our potential, and will come with our collaboration of selflessness, faith and conviction. Even as a single person, I know I can make a good difference, and with two- well- the more the merrier, right?" Yukine grinned proudly and locked onto Marick with his own pair of eyes. He was proud to be where was during this time, and was excited to exceed even further in his adventures. He knew that anything glorious could come from his actions if he acted well, which ultimately pondered the thought of striving for success.

Yukine stood firmly on the ground after he spoke his dreams to Marick. If he was disappointed about one thing, it was that Marick's time in Sabertooth sounded temporal by his words. Albeit, until the man said so, himself, now was not the time to think about it. What Yukine had to focus on right now was this exam that'd he complete on behalf of his precious guild; the miracle given to him. "I understand why I'm here now..." Yukine remarked with a bright smile written on his face. He seemed fully determined and ready for what was to come.

Marick smiled at Kichiro's words. The young man reminded him much of himself when he were just a few years younger...although he was probably less of a ladies man of course. "I was a mercenary when Era fell. I came here to save a friend, and made a new friend in the process. From that day forward I began to follow those virtues in my own way, before I was approached by Zenshin. I intended to learn from him and then leave to form my own guild, only to find that...well...this guild is everything I was looking for. And now, like Era, we are having to rebuild as we continue to move ever towards our destination; Paradise."

The Solitaire finished talking and beckoned Kichiro to walk with him. "You're a good kid Kichiro. I can see why you've reached this stage in your magical life already." he continued as the pair began to enter a clearing. "Forever follow those virtues, but never go blindly. Always have your own paradise in mind. Afterall, paradise for everyone is a little different."

The Paragon stopped once more, this time unzipping his jacket and dropping it to the ground. "Now...I can tell you've been itching for this..." he chuckled as he clenched and unclenched his hands and rolled his shoulders. "It may have been a while since I last had a proper duel...but I'm sure you'll find me a worthy opponent nonetheless."

(OOC: I'll just stick with the spells I currently have approved. Thanks, anyways)

Yukine laughed softly when the battle finally begun. He chanted: You who would desecrate this land of the rising sun, with my advent, I, Kichiro Yukine, lay waste with the Sekki, and expel thy vast defilement!" This was all Yukine had to say for the time being, Yato prepared for release from Yukine's pocket dimension. It had been awhile since Yato had been within Yukine's grasp, though the blonde-haired Mage did not plan on failing with his almighty sword. Yukine had chosen not to summon it until a particular move fell into place.

The soothing wind guided Yukine's path as, to start, Yukine charged towards Marick with an open fist, his right hand prepared to connect with the left side of Marick's face. There was a purpose regarding the open fist, and that it wasn't entirely clenched. However, Marick would surely find out later; whether or not he'd be able to dodge the incoming attack. Yukine was swift on his feet, anyway, with a solid 270 FPS average, and a form that was able to fight with great amounts of agility and evasiveness. Normally, a firsthand charge would be foolish. However, every action Yukine had ever performed, even during this time, had a purpose, and he wanted to prove that to Marick with a gentle fist to commence, and blades of glory to end.

The kid had guts and he had a plan. That was immediately obvious to Marick as Kichiro rushed straight forward on the offensive yet seemed to hold back, not in hesitation, but in anticipation of Marick's next move. Either that or this movement was in preparation, moving forward in such a way that his next move would flow smoothly. The Solitaire couldn't predict that far ahead. All he could do was act upon it. In one quick movement he brought his left arm up and knocked the young man's attack aside before bring his right hand forwards towards Kichiro's gut. It was a basic maneuver, but Sabertooth's Paragon wasn't about to go all out without being pushed to it.

The future of Sabertooth lies in the hands of our young members who pass through myself and Zenshin...I can see now why Zenshin had me take this exam. It seems even at my age I'm learning something new regularly.

Yukine grinned when his fist was blocked by Marick's left arm. In this single second, Yukine instantly yelled "Swap!", and immediately summoned Hiyori in thin air, appearing before Marick's right fist, and set to disappear the moment Marick's right fist made contact with her. Yukine then proceeded to uppercut with his left fist, aimed for Marick's chin at an even faster pace than Yukine's right punch. There was a reason that Yukine slightly held back when he ran towards Marick, and that was to count to...six. In this time, Yukine could summon one of his four weakest Regalia; one of which was Hiyori, who was a spiritual shield that could only be taken down by magic. Yukine predicted that in the time it would take to readjust one's fist to bypass a shield, and the time to shift one's arm to counter an uppercut, the uppercut would most likely go through. Now was the time to test Marick.

The requip magic caught Marick by surprise, not due to the spell itself but due to the pace in which it was used. Before he had the chance to move Yukine was upon him once more, releasing a dangerous uppercut that sent the Solitaire staggering backwards a couple of steps. The boy's movements were quick and his magic was even quicker. But there again, Marick was yet to get into gear himself, and hadn't yet cast any of his own spells. He wiped his mouth to check for blood, then chuckled. "Good hit. Very good hit. You've got a lot of pace." As the Paragon spoke, cards flew through the air and surrounded him. "I'm gonna need to take this a little more seriously aren't I?" he added with a grin, before gripping a card and throwing it onto the ground in front of him. The card glowed read before bursting into flames and launching itself at Yukine.

Yukine gave a more serious expression once his first bit had connected. By will, Hiyori was sent back to his pocket dimension, afterwards, which gave Yukine more room to fight. Yukine didn't move when Marick complimented his successful strike, and once he saw flames unleashed, Yukine immediately pulled off a counter. Ryuunosuke was summoned instantaneously, merged with Yukine so an instant aura of flames appeared; fifteen meters in radius. The aura resisted half of the strength of Marick's card, though Yukine still witnessed a burn across his chest, which caused little to no damage. In fact, Yukine didn't even move back a step. To the counteract with the card Marick played, Yukine released Ryuunosuke into his physical form: a scythe. Yukine lunged the scythe forward, which sent four fireballs in Marick's direction; the other four behind Yukine. The fireballs were fast, though Yukine figured Marick could dodge this. Frankly, this was why his first link of spells were prepared.

While Yukine was busy dealing with the fireball, Marick drew his next card. The cards appear to be mocking me today... he thought to himself, although his expression remained completely unchanged so as to hide his current misfortune. Of course he was unaware of how his fortune would now change, as the student fired off four fireballs directly at him. The Solitaire's expression would now change to a grin as he gripped two cards and played them out in front of him. The cards glowed a faint blue before releasing a powerful jet of water. The blast put out the fireballs immediately, before continuing on its path towards Yukine at a terrifying speed. Right now the fight was looking rather basic, but Marick could already feel that this duel was going to get interesting fast.

Post by Guest 18th May 2014, 1:15 pm

Once the fireballs set forth, like Yukine thought, he noticed that Marick countered. In immediate reaction to this, Yukine's pendulum activated, and instantaneously, three spells activated: Yato, Duplication Sword, and Hanzo. The jet of water was about to hit Yukine at a terrifying speed, though thanks to a sudden boost, Yukine shifted to the right with ease, a sword in each hand, out of the boundaries, and readied to assault Marick. This was the power of Link, who was also activated! With godlike speed, Yukine ran at his fullest towards Marick, ready to cross the two swords before Legacy's neck, and end this duel in Yukine's favour. "Victory." Yukine thought before the rush. Yukine could not think of a single counter Marick could make from this technique.

    Try to comprehend this:

    - Yato and the Duplication sword can both increase Yukine's FPS by 50% each (The first boost brings Yukine to 300 FPS)
    - Hanzo doubles the speed of two D-Rank Sekki spells that include speed boosts, adds the two speeds together, then adds that amount to Yukine's speed. This means 1200 FPS.
    - Link doubles Yukine's speed each time a speed boost is given, which means:

    300 x 2= 600 (Yato)
    Duplication gives 50%= 900, then Link activates= 1800
    Hanzo activates= (600x2 + 1800x2)= 4800
Link activates again since two boosts were given=

    4800 x 2= 9600

    9600 FPS

This goes to show how easily I avoided your attack, then countered it. Since I'm on my phone, I'd like to ask that you look at my spells to understand their effects.

    Health: 95%
    Mana: 45%

The veil of flames is washed away; still, since even though I can move at such a speed, a single drop of water can eliminate the whole aura, which is impossible for me to avoid.

((Countering the move is one thing. Avoiding it is something else entirely.))

The pace that Yukine was traveling at was phenomenal. The blades were almost immediately at Marick's neck before he could react. Almost. The Solitaire had no doubts that Yukine would have a counter. Many mages in Sabertooth had spoken highly of the young man after all, so to expect him to drop after such a basic counter would have been a massive mistake. As Yukine prepared his counter, Marick prepared his own movements.

His right hand brushed gently across a card as Yukine began his surge forwards. In that split second Marick crossed 20 meters and appeared further away from Yukine than before...in the opposite direction. And there was me thinking Black Joker wouldn't be useful right now. He then gripped his own sword while the younger mage focused on his doppelganger and threw it through the air. It fell to the ground ten meters away and stuck there. The Paragon then gripped another card and cast it; 4: Chain lightning. Alone this card would only reach up to 10 meters. But with the sword standing ten meters away to conduct the electricity, the lightning was able to travel twice as far and struck Yukine on the back. "Nice move kid. Very nice. I want to see more." he called out with a warm but confident grin. This duel had just stepped up a gear.

Yukine grinned as all he saw Marick seemingly unable to perform a move other than swipe over a card. "Gotcha" Yukine thought to himself as he crossed the two swords before what seemed to be Marick's neck; though it was actually a copy of himself (which Yukine did not know, obviously). It was moments later that Yukine felt lightning hit his back, which he surprisingly laughed at. "You impress me, Marick." Yukine commented, his lineage activated to heal the wounds from the lightning. Of course, Yukine only had the power to do this once, though he felt in perfect shape after the healing. In a godlike reaction, Yukine lunged one sword through the stomach of the doppelgagner, which he hoped would annihilate him. "It's funny..." Yukine added, "Even during this exam, I thought fighting was this easy, yet it was all just foolish thoughts." Yukine grinned and locked his eyes on Marick's. One of his eyes turned completely black, with a golden ring as a replacement for the pupil. This was the call of his more powerful self, who was addicted to fighting. "Marick! This duel has only just begun!" Yukine declared, "I am going to show you the new me! The Number One ReQuip Mage!" Yukine combined Hanzo with himself, which deactivated the boosts over his two swords. Additionally, the two swords had met their duration, meaning Yukine held only two regular swords. On the contrary, Yukine still had many powers left, and from what he saw, Marick was limited.

A healing power...that's a handy little tool right there. Marick found himself thinking, before quickly snapping himself back to business. "I should hope I impress. I don't want to go embarrassing Zenshin now do I?" the Solitaire replied with a chuckle. He watched as Yukine's eye glowed, a smile creeping across his face as he sensed the burst of confidence flowing through his younger guildmate. Finally Yukine was beginning to step out of his comfort zone a little more and try new tricks. Marick stepped forwards and pulled his sword out of the ground, wielding it backhand as normal.

"Come on then Yukine...show me what you can do." He gripped three cards and launched them through the air now, all aimed at Sabertooth's young requip mage at high speed. He lacked any usable cards at this moment in time, but he'd make up for that soon enough.

Yukine clinched his teeth when Marick threw three cards his way. He sprinted to his left (198 FPS) in attempt to avoid the cards. With the two swords still in his grasp, Yukine proceeded to rush towards Marick, and perform a swords dance. To start, Yukine front-rolled while he held the two swords, then used the Duplication Sword as a spring to aim what Yukine liked to call an "Aerial Ace" in Marick's direction. Upside down, Yukine performed a side flip, then prepared to attack Marick by swing his swords downwards before Marick. However, this was not all that Yukine had to offer...

Marick brought his sword up rapidly in an attempt to block Yukine's attack and, were it not for the young mage's sideroll, he'd have easily blocked the strikes aimed at him. The result however was a slash down the Solitaire's arm. He cursed at his bad luck - and admittedly from the initial pain - before sidestepping clear of Yukine. He glanced down as his arm and chuckled before turning his attention back to his opponent. "You're starting to see now aren't you...it's good to have a plan, but sometimes you need to be able to step outside of the box and switch things around. Try out new things to catch your opponent off-guard. So long as you have confidence in your own abilities and your eyes set on paradise you will never fail to complete your movements, even if they don't necessarily hit the target."

Marick placed his sword back in it's sheath and grinned. "Now...as much as I'd love to continue this duel, I'm afraid I must bow out at this point. You've learned what I wanted of you, and even managed to deal a fairly strong strike...I have no qualms whatsoever with considering you an equal in rank." The Paragon put his hand out for his student, a warm smile across his face. "Zenshin was correct in his praise of you."

The Road to Understanding (Kichiro's Exam Thread) Empty Re: The Road to Understanding (Kichiro's Exam Thread)

Yukine smiled warmly when three blades collidedly intensely with each other, though in a glimpse, Yukine saw that he still had managed to leave a cut in Marick's arm. With this, Yukine descended gently to the ground, prepared to block swiftly as he predicted an immediate strike from Marick. However, this did not seem to be the case. The fight seemed to come to a pause- or an end- as Yukine noticed Marick turn his attention to him instead of the fight. Yukine had an epiphany the moment Marick began to talk. "I've changed again, haven't I? I've matured." Yukine thought to himself while he listened to Marick. "You sure are a worthy competitor, Marick." Yukine remarked, "It's amazing to see someone with such incredible intellect in the guild. You seem to know your stuff!"

Though these words may have sounded weak, Yukine was proud to stand before someone who knew Sabertooth so well. Marick would definitely be someone Yukine would acknowledge as an honourable member of the guild, and indirectly wished him all the best. "You definitely are my rival now, Marick." Yukine commented, "You're free to spar with me anytime." As the fight came to a conclusion, Yukine transported his items back to his pocket dimension, and continued onward back to Sabertooth's guild hall. While he walked away, however, he gave Marick a big thumbs-up, then turned back to him quickly. "May our fates intertwine again!" Yukine concluded.

    [Thanks for the test!]
