It was a nice quiet morning for most people who came from the Kingdom of Fiore. Most men would simply be woken up from the rays of the beautiful golden sun, kiss their wives, have a decent breakfast and go to work. Most women would take care of their children, shop for clothes or be at school. The kids would be outside running around and doing what little kids do. Well, that was the everyday life for most of the normal human beings in Fiore. Unfortunately for Veona, she wasn't a normal human being, most people don't spend half of their time reading on trees or playing card games with the idiotic man who saved their life...

Veona opened one of her teal eyes and groaned. It was too bright. She yawned and stretched before running a hand through her long white hair. The summoner looked out of the window, noticing that the bus was near its destination. The mountains were big, pretty and green and this was one of the best views a person could see first thing after waking up. "Good morning mistress." Elaine's voice rang in Veona's head, the Yggdrasil Maiden was very happy to greet her mistress, even if it was just through telepathy. "Morning." The mage said out loud causing the driver to respond. He though that she was talking to him. He said that they had almost reached their destination- the Ancient Ruins. As she returned to her previous actions of looking out of the window her spirits started waking up, one by one, greeting each other and their mistress, they started getting as loud as they usually were. Veona just knew that she was going to have a headache by the end of the day. She tried focusing on the task at hand, the mission that she had accepted wasn't going to be too easy, especially since she was doing it with someone she had never seen before. Her partner was supposedly from the same guild as her, and not much stronger than her, at least thats what she was told by her guildmaster.

Siren was already well ahead of Veona and was currently walking the grounds of the ancient ruins of an old stone town that was heavily overgrown with moss and vines,  with trees that grew right on top of some of the old decrepit buildings that were close to being unidentifiable as though a whole forest grew right on top of the ruined city.

Today was one of Siren's days she dedicated to integrating and learning about the mage population of Earthland and what better way than to do so under disguise side by side with members of the guild she was a part of,  helping them grow and granting them security as they trained and in return Siren got to see what others were capable of here.

She was not the domineering sixfoot-plus "bombshell" as she usually was but there walking the ruins was instead a much shorter maiden of her late teens,  Nim Rein.  One of two identities she assumed every now and then to associate with people when she didn't feel like it'd be appropriate to be herself.

So instead of the renowned Second Saint and Ace of Blue Pegasus,  the B-ranked teleketic water mage was signed on for a promising job regarding the retrieval of a treasury owned by the original ten Wizard Saints.   It was supposed to be a B-rank job but Siren felt like it would draw more than petty thieves.   The information was out there and there was no doubt it would draw hopeful dark mages.

Rather than restricting the job from the guild's lower ranked members,  Siren decided to accompany one of the guild's many promising budding mages to aid them in building up their own rap sheet and if it proved too dangerous... then, that was what she was around for.   Siren had been defending the innocent against far worse odds than the potential for a pumped-up thug.

"The Ruins are clear Captain,  you are the only one present on the surface."  The voice of her daughter sounded in her mind,  her First Mate of her ship and a talented user of Archive.  Her magic was amplified by her ship's own systems and served as her direct line of communication to her crew while she was away along with other benefits of information.  Unfortunately,  those systems couldn't do much regarding whatever was lying in wait underground,  in the old temple that had previously been sealed for all this time.    "Thank you Enya.  Keep an eye out for anyone who shows up."

Sealed.. until just four days ago when it was reportedly cracked and now the race was on to discover the predicted "Vault of the Saints".

Siren stretched and popped her neck,   it was about time to start.   Taking a step forward her body appeared to melt and rush forward,  molding itself together into the likeness of a finned black serpent that twisted through the air as though floating on clouds of steam.    The serpent was small at first,  no larger than a boa or a large river snake might be,  but as it moved forward it grew until it was as thick around as a bus and many times longer.

These ruins were a good sixteen miles through dense forest and rocky mountains from the road where her chosen guildmate would be arriving in minutes to be dropped off on the side of the road in front of a rest stop intended for long road trips or people who wanted to take the hike to see the ancient ruins.    In her true,  but not exactly full,  form of a sea serpent Siren made it to the rest stop in moments and snapped back into human form to drop down onto a sitting bench next to a picnic table where she laid on her back,  legs crossed and folded her arms behind her head.

Taking a deep breath,  Siren waited.

"When are we going to be there?" Zappbau barked questioningly. "How should I know?" The Dark Queen of Nightmare land hissed "It's been like seven hours right?" Fever Therapy Nurse asked "We should be there soon." The Blue Storm Marine General, Hermes answered. The spirits in Veona's head were constantly talking, or arguing, it was driving her insane. She was never the type to like loud places and she had one right inside of her poor head. She couldn't' shout at them to shut up because that would disturb the driver and possibly cause a bus-crash. After a few more minutes of telepathic arguing the bus stopped and all of the spirits went quiet. Veona payed the driver with a tip and walked out of the bus, she could afford to spend extra money thanks to Ren's rich family. She took a few minutes in stretching her upper body, her arms and her legs. She looked around searching for someone who could possibly be the person who her guild master assigned to be her partner. Her eyes landed on nearby wooden table. A young red-haired girl lay there, one with strong magical presence, it made a shiver run down Veona's back as she approached her with her usual blank face. "Be careful." Hermes told her when she got closer to the other mage.

"Excuse me miss, could it be that your my partner?" She scanned the pretty looking red-haired girl, she seemed to be around Dasher's own age which made her relax a little. As she waited for the girl's answer she looked around the beautiful mountain, managing to spot the white bits of abandoned and destroyed old buildings, those were most likely where the band of thugs is. She squinted in attempt to spot something else interesting, but it was no use. She sighed and turned towards the other girl with a rather blank face.

As Siren waited for the other girl to show up she entertained herself by going over history lessons about the ruins they would be visiting and all that was known about the Vault of the Saints,  which with her quick mind too only a minute and she moved on to review what she new of Veona.

She reviewed the girl's history,  she had seen her public history on paper once and that was all she needed,   and worked her personality details out into a summary.  Veona Dashner, or Suzugamori as was the house she was fostered into.  Stubborn, somewhat irritable but the reason she had chosen to be with Veona today instead of other options was that she had a good head about her and was sure to be teachable even though she was stubborn she'd at least learn if it was presented as though it were her idea or something she observed rather than was told.

Siren was and has been a mother for centuries,  she had run into very few individuals who were truly unteachable.  Thankfully none of them had been of her own offspring.  Those who were unteachable were usually troublemakers and vagabonds though she had met one priest on a world that was heavily ingrained into a false religion worshiping a mage on a world which had a mage birth rate of less than 1 mage per billion births give or take,  and those that were born were usually killed or committed to their version of an "Insane Asylum".

But that was hardly a story for now,  she brushed the thought away and wondered if she'd even have the opportunity to teach Veona anything anyway.   It wasn't her first priority one way or another,  her main priority was just to watch.  Plus...  Siren enjoyed playing cards and the idea of a card based magic tickled her fancy.

She had a few minutes left after that so she resorted to feeling out her magic,  sensing the ocean abyss within her and the blood of a great beast such as she was,  more than human and more than mortal,  the blood which gave her the ability to uplift whole buildings and throw them like stones.      Her muscles flexed in reflection of her memories,  momentarily tensing and roiling with power,  her size shifted growing and shrinking slightly before she locked herself back to her five-foot self.

Siren smirked a soft smirk,  confidence welling up and practically oozing out from her.   She raised one hand as if to reach out towards the sky above her where some clouds were.   She extended her influence up towards it and felt the water composing them.   With a sudden clench of her fist the water in the cloud burst and the cloud was gone,  falling to the earth as rain which was heating up under her touch and fell towards her.

Right as the first drop was visible to her keen eyes just feet above her she opened her clenched fist and made a brushing motion and each drop of rain became steam that blew away in the winds.

When the bus finally did show up just a minute or so after she had expressed herself, Siren calmly waited,  staring up into the sky where the cloud once was as her soon to be partner got off and approached.   She waited for her to near before she responded and when she did she was asked a question without too much hesitation.

"Yep,  My names Nim.  I just got here a little while ago."  She said as she slid upright and stood to hold out a hand for a quick - gentle - handshake.   As Siren knew already,  Veona was taller than her by over half a foot and was older than Nim was by a year.  Siren always felt amused when other people were taller than her.   It was a bit of a rush knowing others looked down on you and how smug they could sometimes be about it,  when in reality they could be like ants before her.   All the better when someone tries to take advantage of you in a dark alley.

With her name out of the way,  though Veona had been given her name and a picture of Nim ahead of time as part of the request - Asking just as a formality, surely - Siren looked to the thick forest and mountainy landscape behind them.   There was a dirt trail that broke the treeline just right next to the rest stop,  a white building with two bathrooms male and female which would include showers and a first aid kit.   Two vending machines stood against one of it's walls beside a drinking fountain.   The food in the machines being kept fresh by the wonderful magics of this world.

"Well.  If you'd like to take a break after your little road trip I don't mind."  Gesturing to the ladies room as she mentioned it.   The place was cleaned once a month or so just to be sure,  but it was mostly enchanted with durability as to not really need it.   It also helped against he occasional bear or monster that tries to break into the vending machines.    "Or we can get started on that hike.   It's sixteen miles from here to the ruins,  it could well be a while before we get there,  but we're not exactly in a rush to get there.  If there ARE any thugs who learned about the vault and got here before us,  it'll take them a long time to clear it out."

"Well. If you'd like to take a break after your little road trip I don't mind." Veona blinked at the red-haired mage's consideration. She looked towards the small stop, it was set up for tourists. The summoner started jogging towards the bathroom as she heard Nim's explanation about their long hike. "Just a moment!" She shouted as she entered the lady's room. She came out after a few moment with brushed teeth, combed hair and a washed face. She quickly bough four bottles of water and a few fruits just in case her or her partner get hungry or thirsty. She then jogged back down towards Nim, and handed her a bottle of water politely. "I had to make sure we didn't get dehydrated, their might be clouds but the sun's still pretty warm." She explained her thoughts to the other mage as she slung her green bag back over her shoulder.

Nim seemed to be shorter then Veona, but the mage couldn't really consider that due to the strong magic vibe that she was giving out. That vibe also contained a sense of royalty, the way she spoke sounded as if she was a queen of some sort, it made Dasher respect her. That somehow reminded her of Ren. A frown of annoyance formed itself on Veona's lips, Ren did have the royal vibe, but the moment he opened his mouth, it was as if you were at a circus. Speaking of Ren, Veona checked her phone, noticing that she and no network coverage. At least he wasn't going to call her every five minutes. She shook her head before looking towards the younger mage with a questioning gaze "Would you rather we move by trees or by ground?"She asked Nim, most of the members in her guild knew about Veona's love for tree branches, some called her a monkey, while others said she was like a ninja.

Siren leaned back onto the picnic table as her partner went off to take care of things in preparation for the hike.  Siren, personally,  didn't require any of that.   She did have a huge appetite but she didn't necessarily require much food to sustain herself.   When you can go eat a pod of whales every other Tuesday if you felt like it you didn't exactly require much to eat in between.  As for water,  Siren could draw it from any number of sources and wasn't limited to freshwater, or clean water for that matter.   She was set as could be.   The only thing Siren required for any hike was... herself.

Siren laid back onto the table with a stretch and went back to looking up at the sky and she winked,  knowing that her daughter up there could see her.  Veona wasn't too long and Siren sat back up as she exited the restrooms and watched her retrieve some water from the vending machines for herself and returned to her,  extending a bottle out to Siren.

"I'm afraid the bottle would go to waste on me,  you keep it.  I don't require it."  She said as she waved the bottle away.  One of the perks of being a water "slayer" as her magic was called in this world.   Had she not been a water slayer Siren would probably need lot of water to stay hydrated considering she'd be a fish out of water,  almost literally if you consider a sea serpent to be a "Fish".

With that out of the way Siren pushed off from the table to stand upright and start off towards the trail when Veona asked if she'd rather travel in the trees,  turning to face her then nodding in the direction of the trail rather than word a reply to the question.   A sixteen mile hike was hardly the place to run around tree to tree after all.

The trail was wide,  about six feet wide and lined with rocks on either side.  It was a very nice dirt trail as far as dirt trails go,  nice and leveled and well packed.  It wouldn't last though,   the trail was only this nice because it led to several other notable hiking trails and a rock climbing hot spot.   Siren had even seen a rock climber there earlier that morning,  but where they were traveling was much farther and out of the way and the trail would get less nice.

The trail did not extend all the way to the ruins in fact,  but tapered off leaving one to navigate the rest of the way through forest.   It wasn't a particularly long way to go through the forest,  but it was several miles.

Veona jumped down from the branch and followed Nim inside the forest. She and no idea how far they were going to walk she put her hands behind her head and looked up at the treetops quietly. She could only hear the sound of their footsteps and the chirping of some sort of birds who's sort she didn't know. "It's a Hoopoe." The goddess of the crescent moon, Tsukuyomi answered her master through telepathy.  Veona nodded silently and attempted to find another sound, something to distract herself with from the boredom. Her ears focused on the sound of a pair of flapping wings. She opened her eyes with slight confusion and looked at pretty green dragonfly in front of her. They only lived near sweet water streams right? There was only  a sea near them, and it wasn't even that close at all.

The dragonfly made a circle around Veona and decided to close its wings all of a sudden, falling on the summoner's head. She could hear her spirits question her in confusion but she simply let the dragonfly stay there for a while as she walked, the poor creature probably needed a break. That sounded crazy, saying that something that flew needed a break, but once in a while everyone needed one, right? After around two miles of walking the dragonfly flew off somewhere unnoticed. "There shouldn't be any streams near here, none that are mapped at least." That statement from Tsukuyomi caused Veona's guard to rize. "Nim, I just saw a dragonfly, there really aren't any river's mapped near us right? Something's weird." She told her partner. She was quite curious and slightly confused. Tsukuyomi was staying quiet while several others where discussing what the reason for the appearance of that dragonfly could've been. "It was an Illusion." "A magic teleportation device?" "They realized that the sea is a better habitat and addapted?" "It was a very strong dragonfly!" Veona had the urge to face-palm, the headache prediction was starting to come true.
