My idea is that players should be able to bend the rules in certain ways under certain circumstances for the sake of quality RP.
How would this work?
Rule of Cool Contracts, they work like so:
Player 1 and Player 2 decide they want their battle to be exceptionally cool so they agree it would be better if they didn't have to deal with spell cooldowns. So at the start of their thread Player 1 posts
OOC: Rule of Cool Enabeled.
Conditions: No spell cooldowns
Restriction: No same spell spam, for a spell to be reused two different spells must be used first
This contract extends to: Player 1 and Player 2
Player 2 posts
OOC: I agree to these terms
They have to ask a mod to check their contract. If they are using it appropriately they may begin the thread with the revised rules.
Things contracts can do:
-Remove cooldown restrictions
-Remove mana consumption rules
-Null ranks(in case two people of different ranks want to fight on equal ground)
-Go super saiyan(metaphorically.)
-Set special conditions on the battle(this could be used in a rank up exam to permit a guild master to test their guild member in ways not possible with their own magic.)
-Null common sense(in cases where two players want to battle or interact but for some reason they just can't. I.E. a wanted dark mage wants to have tea with Count Sparrow or a fire and water mage want to battle without allowing elemental weaknesses to unbalance combat)
-Ect
What I mean by "Go super saiyan," is to let the players shoot their power levels through the roof. If the two players feel like having the kind of battle that get's mountains destroyed in the cross fire, this is what they would have to do.
To make sure this is not abused contracts have to abide certain rules.
Restrictions on Contracts:
-Contracts cannot be used within normal jobs.
-To use a contract in a job requires rewards to be voided
-1 vs. 1 battles only
-May not be used in site wide events
-Only the players who make the contract can participate in the battle, other players may be in the thread but must remain out of combat
-May be used in rank up exams however only for the purpose of making unique exam conditions, not to make the exam easier
-If used in a rank up exam only the Guild Master can set the contract and the player going through the exam does not have to agree
-Terms HAVE to be very clear and specific
-Mods can put restrictions on rule of cool threads if the changes are extreme. (such as Heero and Shuhei example below)
-A player can only have 1 rule of cool contract thread going at any given time.
-A player can only create 1 rule of cool contract thread per month
The majority of the rules are to avoid abuses. While the last two are purely to keep these contract threads the exception and not the rule.
In the case that the staff thinks that these restrictions are too loose and the system can still be abused I have come up with a few possible extra restrictions. These aren't really necessary in my eyes but using some of them may help the higher ups be more willing to use this suggestion.
Alternative Restrictions:
-Contracts must be bought from the magic store before hand
-Players must give the staff a valid reason as to why they should be able to permit the rule of cool
-contracts actually have to make things cooler
-Only C ranked players or higher can use the rule of cool
-Rule of Cool threads are not considered canon
Possible Uses and examples of how Rule of Cool Contracts can be used:
In the form of a rank up exam: Zuo Cii wants to push celestial spirit mage Talen to his max during a rank up exam. He gets a great idea for this. Before the rank up exam he sets a Rule of Cool Contract allowing him to turn one of Talen's celestial spirits against him as part of the exam.
In case of noobs wanting to be awesome: Lance Knighthunter and Daemon Spade want to have the ultimate battle of good and evil however both are D-Rank. They write up a rule of cool contract allowing them to fight on H-Rank level for the purpose of their epic battle.
In the form of reducing cooldowns: Zenneth and Iziel want to have an epic god slayer battle that is made entirely of them blasting each other with their god slayer bellows over and over again. They want to do this to "see who's bellow is superior." So they write up a contract making it so that their bellow spells are exempt from cooldowns however no other spells can be used
In case of Super Saiyans: Heero and Shuhei are feeling particularly manly today and decide to have a totes awesome macho dragon slayer battle of ultimate awesomeness and Michael Bay level explosions. So they write up a rule of cool contract that let's them go Super Saiyan 10 and pretty much fight with infinite but equally infinite power.
However something as extreme as the Heero and Shuhei example or the Lance and Daemon example would likely have to be deemed Non-Canon battles by the mod who approves the contracts for the sake of preventing the world from exploding.
I'm aware my system isn't quiet perfect and the idea of a rule that breaks the other rules is a hard sell. But I think with some brain storming and working together as a community I think we can make this work.
