Job Location: Oak Town

Job Description: A high end restaurant in Oak Town is holding a major dinner for some of the most wealthy people in the nation. All sorts of people have turned out too this event, and the Oak Town Restaurant is short more than a few hands! Head there and help them out! Show off your gourmet abilities for the rich and famous, and become known as an Iron Chef across the land as they leave satisfied with full bellies!

Reward: 550 Jewels and Some Renown Across the Land as An Iron Chef due too your excellent cooking abilities!

Zhu walked into Oak Town with a very bored look on his face. He really didn’t want to do this particular job, but he wasn’t in a position that he could turn down money. The money aside he was going to get some renown if he showed off some of his cooking talents. While it was true he really didn’t have many cooking skills to speak of he did of course have to make his own meals from time to time so he learned how to cook as a way to make his own meals taste better. So he was going to pull them all out for this job.

He found the restaurant towards the middle of Oak Town. The restaurant was named “The Golden Lion” apparently it was a restaurant that specialized in the cuisine coming from the Orient. This worked out wonderfully for Zhu as he was from the Orient and thus he knew the cuisine very well. So he figured that he would be able to really make this job worth his time and effort. As he walked into the restaurant a lovely looking hostess approached him “Hello sir. How many?” Zhu chuckled softly shaking his head “No I’m here to talk to your boss, about the party tonight.”

The woman suddenly became very happy and nodded her head quickly “Oh! I am very glad to see you. Please come with me. We are going to actually start the party in a few hours. Please follow me into the back my boss is in the kitchen getting things ready for the event.” She turned and lead Zhu back to the kitchen and he was more than happy to simply follow behind her. When they arrived in the kitchen it was abuzz with activity and the owner was standing at one of the grills cooking away in preparation for the event.

As Zhu and the woman walked in the owner looked to them with a soft smile “Ah you must be our helper. I am very glad to see you here. We could use an extra set of hands. Tell me what are you good at?” Zhu bowed his head lightly “Well sir. If you need someone to cut or chop anything along with whatever else you might need or want from me I can do it. You just tell me what to do, and how you want the final product to look then I will make it happen just like I was told.”

The owner smiled at Zhu and gave him a clap of approval “Very good! First we need the beef chopped up into thin fillets for the dinner tonight. We need the fishes deboned, and cut into fish steaks about six ounces in size. Once you’re through with that I need you to chop and dice all the vegetables that you could possibly get your hands on around this kitchen. We always use slices anyway. So you are perfectly capable to that, so go ahead and get started. We have a few hours before the party starts, so go ahead and take your time.”

Zhu bowed his head deeply with a wide smile on his face “Of course sir. I will show you how skilled I am with a blade of any kind. Thank you.” He shed his long coat and hung it up on a nearby coat rack still smiling. Once he had shed his coat he pulled on a chef’s coat, and apron. He tied it around him and got ready. Without any further delay he walked over to his station and began to sharpen his knives. He took his time to carefully sharpen each one so it was as razor sharp as it possibly could.

He had an arsenal of knifes, a few chef’s knives, a couple of filleting knives, and even a pair of parrying knives. They were soon enough all razor sharp. Zhu smirked as he reached over and pulled a healthy slab of beef over to his cutting board and right away began to slice into it. First cutting it into steaks and then cutting those steaks into strips or fillets and it was a quick enough task for him to do, and they were all the same. He was talented enough to keep that level of uniform up throughout all of his slices.

Despite Zhu’s amazing speed he was never one to sacrifice quality of his cuts. They were all very uniform and looked as good as he could possibly make them. The slices were all the same thickness, size, and even shape. He continued to do these things with the utmost speed and care. It was one steak after another, and he just kept going at it. He knew that these would be used in some kind of special presentation which is why he wanted them to look as good as he possibly could. He glanced to the side and noticed he was being watched.

The one who was watching him was actually one of the female sous chefs. He wasn’t sure how long she had been in the kitchen and he noticed that she was watching him trying to imitate his cutting style. She was very clumsy at it however, and he couldn’t help but feel a bit sorry for her after all. He hoped that she was just simply feeling the stress and wasn’t actually that bad in the kitchen. Still he wasn’t going to let the girl distract him, and he was quickly finished with the meat he had before him at his station.

Once he was finished with the meat it was cleared away by a few of the other sous chefs in the kitchen. He traded out not only his cutting board, but also his knife. He pulled out a small little fish deboning clip and he began to scan each piece of fish he had at his station for bones. He would quickly pick them out and put them aside not wanting them to be in his way or contaminate his work station. When he was finished with one piece he moved onto the next, and the one after that until he had them all deboned.

Once more his eye went to the girl sous chef who was using the station next to his. She was still cutting meat, but she was moving a little bit faster than previously. That was a ray of hope for Zhu as he knew what was awaiting them, and they all still had much more to get done. With all of his fish deboned he pulled them up along with one of his filleting knives and he began to cut the fish into fillets and the six ounce steak portions that the owner had requested from him. He wasn’t about to make a mistake anywhere.

He went from one slab of fish to another. He couldn’t help but measure the steaks that he cut on one of the kitchen scales. He wanted to make sure that they were all as close to six ounces as he possibly could. He was perfectly happy to have measured out all of the steaks he had cut from the great slabs of fish. All of them were as close to six ounces as he possibly could. Most of them were perfectly right on the money, and that was more than what he needed. He sighed softly as he relaxed and admired his work.

He couldn’t help but look over to the girl once more and he was almost floored by the sight of her still cutting her meat. He really didn’t want to say anything, but he was going to be really worried if she couldn’t pick up the pace. Still he said nothing and simply changed out his cutting board and his knives once more. With his new cutting board in front of him he looked at the vegetables. Some of them were dirty and this was something that he just couldn’t stand. He grabbed them all and took them to a nearby sink for a good washing.

Zhu washed them as best he could to make sure that there wasn’t any dirt or grit that would get to the customers. A single bit of dirt would ruin the meal, and he couldn’t allow that to happen because he decided to be lazy. He wasn’t about to put the reputation of himself, and the guild at stake if he was going to be lazy. When they were all finished and cleaned to his high standards he brought them back to his work station and set them all down. He quickly pulled up some leeks and began to cut them down to a much more useable form.

As he finished cutting all of the leeks he used the back of his knife to scrape them all into a large bowl. He was quick to move on however pulling up the next vegetables on his station. All in all it took him very little time to quickly dissect and cut down all of the vegetables he had to work with. Once he was finished at his station he turned and looked at the female chef once more. Seeing that she was having a very hard time trying to debone her fish Zhu simply couldn’t take it any longer.

He walked over to her with a soft smile on his face “First time trying to debone a fish?” She blushed brightly nodding her head ever so softly “Y-yeah…that obvious huh?” Zhu chuckled ever so slightly “There is no reason for you to be ashamed. It usually is hard for the first time. Here let me show you.” He gently took her hands in his as he began to direct her movements “See when you grip a bone with the tweezers you gently tug on it, but you give a soft curve to your wrist and it just simply slides out of the fish without any hassle.”

As he put the bone they had just removed to the side he leaned back and smiled at her “See? It is just that simple.” The girl smiled a bit wider nodding her head ever so slightly “Yes…Thank you very much. I shall keep this in mind.” Zhu nodded his head in approval and looked to the rest of the things on her station “Well…How about I give you a hand? I’ll just take your produce and cut it up. How’s that sound?” The sous chef nodded her head lightly in agreement “I would like that very much. Thank you.”

Zhu quickly turned his attention to the produce that he had gathered from the female sous chef and began to cut it all up. He was very quick to chop them all up and put them back on the sous chef’s station in order for her to receive the credit for the work. He didn’t want to make her look bad. She was weak right now sure, but she was going to get stronger of that he was certain. That was the good part; if she was hopeless he wouldn’t have even bothered to help her. Lucky for her that wasn’t the case.

As he returned to his station he looked around and was surprised to find that there wasn’t anything left for him to do. He rolled his eye and sighed heavily now that he was bored. He quickly looked around the kitchen and the head chef was already cooking. Zhu walked over to the head chef and looked at him with a soft smile “Well sir I finished everything that you asked of me. Is there anything more that I can do?” The chef thought a moment and then nodded his head “Indeed. It is almost time for the event to begin. Can you make donburi?”

Zhu thought a moment and then nodded his head once “I know how to make all kinds of Donburi. Very well, I will begin preparations for beef Donburi at once. How many am I to make?” The head chef thought a bit and then he nodded his head once “We have a guest list of fifty people. You can go ahead and make the servings.” Zhu nodded his head in agreement as he walked away and began to cook the donburi. Donburi wasn’t a hard dish for him to make. He cooked the rice, the tempura vegetables, and then added the meat in where it needed to be.

He put all of these things into individual bowls and then began to put the bowls to the side on the counter. This allowed for the others to come and take them away out to the dining room for the guests that were already starting to arrive for the party. Zhu didn’t really want to stay much longer so he made his moves as quickly as he possibly could, but also made the meals look as attractive as they possibly could. It didn’t take him very long to finish his task, and he wasn’t the only one who was working on it either. After a few minutes everything was done.

He went over to the head chef “Well anything else?” The head chef smiled and shook his head “No not at all. You have done enough. I know without you this party wouldn’t have been a success. Thank you.” Zhu smiled and bowed deeply “I am honored. Now then I bid you farewell.” He removed his chef coat and apron putting on his regular coat. He was ready to leave now, and he left the restaurant out the back door not wanting to be seen. He wasn’t exactly the type to fit in with that sort of crowd. With his jewels in hand and his renown going to spread he was going to go back to Lamia Scale.
