A Dead Cold Empty A Dead Cold

Post by Grizzly 12th January 2014, 1:12 pm

((OOC: Title is subject to change xD I'm not good with titles))

    Location: Oak Town, Mid
    Time: Friday, 7 PM

Her breath froze in the air. The fox inside Iana warmed her soul and body. Yet the cold managed to get sneak into her winter jacket and grab a sneeze that echoed through the unusually empty streets. At this time of day, the scum of Oak Town crawled out of their warm and for a large part comfortable caves and included themselves in the large complex of crime to earn an existence. For many, a straight path had turned to fiction a long time ago. Iana was supposed to be one of them. But right now, she couldn't feel that way. Not after what had just recently happened. Step after step she carried her cold body through the streets. Towards the train station. She would leave, the day had brought nothing useful. Iana had real reasons to come here this time. Not just to hang out in the raunchy Oak Inn, having meaningless chats that distracted her from pesky problems.

A sigh hushed out of Iana. She was thinking about all of the faces she had viewed in the newspaper. 15 people dead in the last two months. It was said that the corpses were completely torn apart and tossed all over Oak Town and its surroundings, some bodies as far as 10 miles out of the walls of the historic city. Iana felt obligation to come here and see for herself. The notice had apparently gone round. Apparently none of the petty street rats ever read newspaper too closely. The talk was of a serial killer running around. The reporters gave him the name "mage-killer" as all of the victims were mages. Some more famous than others. A shock for the mage community, but the Magic Council didn't want to investigate because they didn't want to call out a regular human for killing powerful mages. That would probably seem too weak. The public image had to be kept polished.

After hating the Magic Council enough, Iana took a right. It wasn't far to the station, only a few more blocks and she would finally be on her way home. The atmosphere was amazingly unsettling. The cold crept through the tiled streets making it inherently uncomfortable to be walking around outside. Another sigh escaped out of Iana's throat. She was a genuinely paranoid person, but the feeling of being watched was somehow different than usual. She didn't make anything of it though. She kept up the pace, brushing through Oak Town and the occasional pedestrian.

    "Countdown to Chaos Chapter I"
    "Day 1 - 19:31:51"
    "Ahira Navarre"
    "Member of Eclipse Soul"
    "Wizard - Ranked D"

"And then I said -- Why would you say that bucket needs to be empty... WHEN IT COULD HAVE BEEN FILLED WITH BEER!? AHAHA"

Just your average day for Ahira. He was sitting in a bar, talking, exchanging stories with other locals that were there. The mood was high, people were laughing, drinking. Everything that would be presumed normal, but a little different. Ahira was smoking a little. The other people were slightly bothered by Ahira's party but stayed there nonetheless. He was at a tavern, he had wandered into Oak this afternoon with his usual garb on. After exchanging many more stories and laughters the subject had changed. The local bar lady begun talking about what had been lurking in the shadows. She then joined the table after most of the other customers were either gone or were minding their own business. Ahira's company consisted of five other people.

"There's this saying, well it's more official now but, it is said that there's a serial killer on the loose in Oak."

The bairowner spoke out. Ahira shiftly crossed his legs a little as he looked at the bar owner, she most likely spoke in honesty. He knew that this wasn't going to lead to a campfire ghost story or whatever, but rather that this would be the real deal. The other members of his party gotten a little silent. The lights in the bar flickered once. Ahira slyly smiled and took another chug of his beer.

    "Please, go on."

The young lad insisted. He always liked local stories of towns he visits. Maybe, this time, he could write it down and do a little searching on his own? After all, a serial killer is quite rare. He knows that they're methodical. Though he wondered what his pattern was, maybe the bar owner could enlighten him with some information. At least, that's what he hoped. The bar owner cleared her throat and spoke out once again as she reached in her pocket to grab a smoke.

"Locally, he's known as the Jig-Saw killer. -- Travelers like to name him... the Mage Killer. The Magic Council is afraid of damaging their reputation by searching into it because the public thinks that mages aren't targeted as the serial killer, or whatever..."

Lots of raised brows. The people at Ahira's table looked at each other for a second and looked around a little. Though Ahira kept looking at the bar owner. He noticed some of the locals being in the same bar coughing a little as well. As if it were some secret. Ahira supposed it was some bad reputation probably. He then looked at the faces of the people at his table, curiously. Some were shocked, some were interested.

"Hmm. -- I suppose we have some time before bed. Anyone want to... go and check what this is all about?"

Ahira said, after saying that he would stand up immediately and grab his coat of his chair. He was ready to leave at any moment. Ahira liked to put himself in danger, it keeps his heart beating. A girl stood up, she was named Clarity. Her hair was long, it was black and she had a ponytail that was laying over her shoulder. And another person stood up. This person was a male. He was in his late twenties and had a small beard. His hair was red and he had a mustache. He went by the name Pasta, mostly because his parents were assholes.

"We'll, I'll see the rest of you tomorrow then.~"

Ahira waved them off and left the tavern with the two strangers.

Her steps were getting faster by the metrum her high-heels made whenever they hit the plastered pavement. The 'clack clack clack' of her shoes overpowered the rustling noise of the crumpled piece of paper that was clenched in her right fist. It was a small piece of paper that had been pasted up at the station entrance. In clear view for everyone to see. But it still seemed fresh, and as no one was in the streets during these times, Iana found herself to be the lucky one that would read it. She snarled and slowly her steps picked up the pace. A little hop into the air had her face marked with an angry eagerness. Landing back on the ground, Iana started running. Running through Oak Town to the address that was scribbled on the piece of paper. It as weird, that something so simple set her off that much.

"This is a challenge for all mages.

Death awaits if you don't incline. My first victims have already been made.

I am your judgement. Oppose me or face responsibility.

    Find me at...."

Iana knew the address very well. And her instinct was tingling, screaming at her not to go. Something that made her tick off even more. Her legs were carrying her fast. The factory complex that was in the far south-side of town was known to be one of the few places of Oak Town the lowest of the low scattered in. It was abandoned and Oak Town didn't have enough money to build something new out of it or restart business with the now dead company. Nowadays, it simply served a housing purpose for some of Oak's scum. Iana had never been very fond of the place, though she had spent a few nights in there during her time in Oak Town.

Spit flew on the ground between her teeth. Her nose was tickling as the smell of bad weather practically invaded her nose and forced its way into her mind.

"What the fuck am I even doing."

Her voice was husky. The brewing clouds felt pressing. Iana was very unsure about what would await, but something told her that it was a clue to whatever these murder stories were holding in stock for her. Maybe this was just a goof. Maybe there was no on there. Maybe someone was just making a big joke about a serial killer on the loose. Those were all possibilities. But Iana had nothing to lose, her life wasn't bound to anything and this seemed like one of the only things she was useful for now.

Dashing through streets, past houses and over blocks, she could feel that she was close.

    "C'est.. étrange."

Ahira spoke out. Something was definitely out of the ordinary. He looked at the strangers and stopped in the middle of a street. Chaos seemed to ensue from the train station. He had to make a decision, whether or not to continue to the sight that he last heard that the murderer was or check out where the chaos was coming from. The two that were with him stared each other in the eyes for a bit and then shrugged, they knew that Ahira was trying to make a decision to what to do.

"Hey, we'll bounce and meet you at the location later?"

Ahira nodded, that seemed like a good plan. The two left his side as Ahira's attention was focused on the station of Oak. Something was definitely amiss. He saw a girl bolting from the place. It seemed as if she went into the street next to the street he was standing in. He would then gently approach her, making sure not to set her off or anything since it would seem that she was in a high state of panic. He approached her like he would approach Bambi if he ever would meet Bambi in the jungle, that is. Gentle and catious, his steps were slow so he wouldn't scare it off but seem too suspicious. If he had been succesful in coming close to her he would part his lips to talk to her.

    "Mademoiselle, ce qui s'est passé?"

Ahira said, hoping that the female would understand French. Since it was somewhat hard for him to talk in English, it was more like he was thinking in French thus he spoke in French, he doesn't really think too well when in situations like these. He would look into her eyes as he was quite curious, it seemed as if she saw some shit alright. He was more curious into what happened then the killer, but his interest was divided to a certain limit. Maybe she would be interested into finding the killer after he told his side of the story? These were all questions Ahira had in mind.

The voice of a stranger brought her to momentarily halt. It was a quite beautiful voice. Hitting a nice tune, Iana didn't jolt her head in annoyance, she was rather mystified. In front of her, a stranger stood. Blank and brazen as they came. He had quite the nice appearance if she was honest with herself. Mustering from top to bottom she realized some things though. A: She was completely out of breath, panting louder than an aftersex age-old train. B: She actually had something to do, and C: She hadn't understood in the slightest what the man had said to her. It was neither her language nor did she exactly know how to respond in this situation.

    "Wha.... whaaa?"

Was all that came out of her in between breaths. With a not worried, but confused and bewildered demeanor Iana took a step back and tried to revise what was happening right now. Jolting up, her face cramped a bit.

"I.... I don't really have time for this now..."

She added and started clacking her feet on the ground trying to establish that she was in a hurry.

    "Pardon."

Ahira blinked at the female a little. Maybe it was a better idea of him to use English instead of his home language? He just taught that she too was from Minstrel because she seemed quite fancy in appearance to him, which most of the people from Minstrel are. He bit his bottom lip a little as he looked down, thinking how he spoke English again, as his he opened his mouth a sweet British accent would lead the speech.

"I am terribly sorry, excuse my Minstrel, but madame, can or could you please tell me what happened? I am more or less, uhm, scrutatêur for the culprit of the recent killers."

Ahira explained, he would like to add her to search crew if she was interested but found it hard to put it under the right words and not offend her or something. He would hope that she would stop walking, since she seemed to be in a hurry and in a slight panic. He wouldn't want to chase her, nobody likes it when the rape whistle is suddenly whistled thus he remained still whilst scratching the back of his head a little. He wanted to investigate these matters of events really badly.

"Can you tell me what you saw?"

The dude before her was certainly handsome. He had quite the sweet tone and even made it so Iana lightened up a bit on the inside. But he seemed insecure. Biting his lip irritated Iana slightly after he had apparently spoke Minstrel with her. Whatever Minstrel was, this man had a strange accent and a weird request. It seemed like a god-given coincidence that they had run into each other and she grew slightly suspicious. She didn't think he was the killer or anything, heavens no. But this man was certainly somewhat strange in perspective. In complete contrast to the man's speech, Iana answered with a raspy voice and a hard accent.

"Are you sayin' you're chasin' the rumor of the mage killer as well? Chance be with us. Heh."

She mustered he man before taking her eyes to the surroundings. The crumpled piece of paper in her right was rustling as she moved. Glancing the man now straight into the eyes, she stored the piece of paper in her pocket for later occasions. Never to trust strangers was rule one on the streets, and she would keep by that. With empty hands she let a fake grin that should have completely hid whatever she was thinking or not thinking cross her face as she looked at the man.

"You do know is' just a rumor tho', right?"

She claimed, crossing her arms and turning her body fully towards him.

Ahira smiled upon seeing that the female stopped in her tracks. He heard her accent also, it was quite extravagant, he thought. He thought it was fancy, most people would consider his own accent fancy, but he considered it to be normal. Thus something not very fancy, he would consider fancy. Maybe she was nobility? Ahira thought as he was thinking a little on what to say.

“... Yes, yes I am. If I had forgot to mention to my name, it's Ahira, Ahira Navarre”

Ahira explained, he would say more but he felt quite nervous around her. His customs made him step closer to her, get on one knee and gently place a kiss on the top of her hand. After he stood up he would warmly smile at her. Something about her seemed very.. pleasant. Ahira looked deeply into her eyes with his own fierce eyes. He had to make sure that she also, wasn't the killer. But he supposed that the killer had a much more calm approach of things, since she seemed to be all over the place, she didn't exactly fit the killers description in Ahira's eyes.

“I do know, but that is all the which what makes it interesting. Alas, I want to find out what it is about, would you be interested into joining me in this?”

Ahira asked with honest eyes, he wanted to solve this as cleanly as he could, involving people that had a smart mind was part of this. She surely could pitch in more then he ever could, he thought.
