    job brief:

Walking along the dirt path heading towards Magnolia’s East Forest, or so it was called, Pain held a flyer and a little note on his right hands, eyes reading them as he walked. The orange haired man took calm breaths, slowly walking one step after another, an arranged walk indeed. The man kept his breathing rhythm in order, his walking pace never being slower or faster. His purple eyes looked around, nearing the forest as he did. Trees of the wild started to show up in his paths, the piece of over growing vine-like roots smashed by his feet as it stepped on them. Pain turned back, looking at the town, still visible. The moment he step in the forest, such view would not be visible, and so he took the chance to do so. It’s not that he loved the scenery or anything, he just wanted to relieve all the hate that were collecting in the surroundings of the town itself.

Sighing, Pain turned back forward, again starting his walks. He was supposed to do the job with someone, but that someone hadn’t turned out yet. Causing Pain trouble, he had to go and deal with the client himself just now, hence the little note. It said something about the client’s daughter getting kidnapped, not by humans, but by creatures. Vulcans? Pain sighed in annoyance. He had dealt with Vulcans back in the blockade job he did with someone from some other guild, and the fact that he had to deal with some other Vulcans in this job annoyed him thoroughly. Stopping his walk, Pain decided to wait for his partner first.

    ~The Intro~

Faust sat in a tree in the Magnolia Eastern forest. He was about 10 meters above the ground, swinging his right leg from the branch while his left rested on the branch with him. In his hand was a small book, 1984 by George Orwell, a smart and brilliant man way beyond his time. This was one of Faust’s favorite books and one that he had enjoyed reading multiple times. The passage that he was currently read was:

Under this lies a fact never mentioned aloud, but tacitly understood and acted upon: namely, that the conditions of life in all three superstates are very much the same. In Oceania the prevailing philosophy is called Ingsoc, in Eurasia is it called NeoBolshevism, and in Eastasia it is called by a Chinese name usually translated as Death-worship, but perhaps better rendered as Obliteration of the Self. The citizen of Oceania is not allowed to know anything of the tenets of the other two philosophies, but he is taught to execrate them as barbarous outrages upon morality and common sense. Actually the three philosophies are barely distinguishable, and the social systems which they support are not distinguishable at all. Everywhere there is the same pyramidal structure, the same worship of a semi-divine leader, the same economy existing by and for continuous warfare. It follows that the three superstates not only cannot conquer one another, but would gain no advantage by doing so. On the contrary, so long as they remain in conflict they prop one another up, like three sheaves of corn. And, as usual, the ruling groups of all three powers are simultaneously aware and unaware of what they are doing. Their lives are dedicated to world conquest, but they also know that it is necessary that the war should continue everlastingly and without victory. Meanwhile the fact that there is no danger of conquest makes possible the denial of reality which is the special feature of Ingsoc and its rival systems of thought. Here it is necessary to repeat what has been said earlier, that by becoming continuous war has fundamentally changed its character.

As he finished that passage he caught whiff of a familiar scent, Zancrow. He shut the book sliding it into his pack that he had dangling from an adjacent branch. He grabbed the bag and quickly descended down to the forest’s ground. For winter the forest was still in some what bloom, leaves were covering the ground but there was still a handful on each tree. Faust was wearing a long black trench coat, a red button up shirt, and black pants. He slung the black backpack over his shoulder and headed towards the area that the scent was located. Zancrow had asked Faust to meet him here to help him with a simple job, something that Faust was somewhat annoyed to do but honestly had nothing else better to occupy his time He noticed the man not too far from him, his pace was casual as he approached him and his look was one of a rather bored man. “Zancrow, why the hell have you dragged me out to this part of Magnolia. If one of the members of Fairy Tail spotted two Savage Skull members lurking about the whole town will be in uproar.” His expression did not change in the slightest. He waited for the man to answer him before they would start anything.

Pain waited just below a tree, big enough to shade him under it. Protected from the ray of the sun, Pain rolled the job flyer and note along, putting them in a small bag on his waist. Sighing, it annoyed Pain at how he need to wait for his partner to tag along, thinking even though they were dark mages, time is still a priority, and so they needed to learn how to keep track of the time always. Pain looked around, the sight of the town becoming rarer, the trees submerging the surroundings into what the people call as the East Forest part of the Magnolia Town. It was not long though, before he decided to just let himself do all the job, starting to leave the tree.

As he left the tree, someone suddenly jumped off the tree, slightly alarming Pain of the apparent stranger’s presence. Pain slid his metal rod, ready to throw the sharp edge of the rod to the enemy’s head if necessary to. Turning around, Pain sighed, slightly in relief. “Hm. Faust.” He kept his metal rod back to his sleeve, relieved at the fact he did not have to engage himself in a battle. Yet.

“Hm? Easy, we kill that Fairy.” Answering in his menacing tone, there was no change in his straight, emotionless expression on his face, but his reply was enough to show his ever dark side. “Of course, we’re not here for entertainment. I wouldn’t have come to this.. rotting place if it was not necessary to.” Pain took out the rolled job flyer again, holding it towards Faust as he spoke. “And please, I do not know who is this Zancrow you speak of.” He denied the fact that his name was just like the one Faust spoke, though he never even talked to Faust about his identity. To be frank, he didn’t even remember his name being other than Pain itself.

Faust just smirked at his fellow guild member’s response. Kill the Fairy Easier said then done. Faust was still curious on how that little metal demon boy was doing after their spat. Last he saw the boy was running through the streets of Magnolia with a trail of blood following him. As he pondered on the boy a slight shiver ran down his spine as he remember the enticing smell of the boy’s blood. It had hint of metallic smell to it, more so than a normal humans. A small smile curled on Faust lips. He continued to walk towards Pein, he seemed to think that the area around them was rotting and to some degree it was true, Faust could smell death in the air. Erza, their former guild mate, was killed not too far from here only a few days prior and the forest itself was dying from the cold hands of winter choking the last bit of life it had left. It seemed that Faust had messed up on the name of Pein as well, a common mistake seeing how he had only met the man in a brief passing, the two did not even talk but longer than a second or two. He would apologize for his mistake if he felt like it, which he currently did not.

Faust ignored the last statement and grabbed the parchment that Pein help towards him. He skimmed over the words on the page, it seemed that the two were helping rescue a maiden in distress, something members of Savage Skull rarely did. After he made sure to note all the details he handed the paper back to Pein. “So we are saving some poor woman? You best have a second motive about this or at least something worth my time. If not I might have to kill the woman so I don’t die from boredom myself. Now do you know where this woman was last seen or any clues?”

Thoughts flew about Faust’s mind, or so it seemed. He went into his world for a moment, Pain waiting patiently for him to snap back into reality. It didn’t took long though before he finally did. Following the events in Magnolia, which Pain unfortunately did not join, he wondered if Faust somehow is waiting, or expecting for something indeed interesting to happen, intrigued by the sudden smirk on his face. Sighing, Pain waited as Faust went through the words on the flyers, his face looked the same, with the ever lasting boredom and stuff. He finally read through, looking anxious. “Yes I do have second motives. What do you expect? I won’t go around saving some trash for nothing.” Referring to the reward itself, Pain also wanted to deal with the Vulcans, pondering their stubbornness to continue causing trouble. Not that he cared about the causing trouble, but the Vulcans could get in his way, something Pain himself won’t forgive.

“I will not stop you if you are to kill the woman we are to save.” Pain spoke straight, no changes in his straight, emotionless face. It was how Pain would look all day, never to smirk, grin, let alone smile. Not even if he has to act it out, he wouldn’t. He couldn’t, to be exact. It had been long since he last smiled, he couldn’t even remember how to. Same goes to laughter and all the other expressions. Sadness? He went through it the most in his past, so no more care for sadness for Pain. “Let us go.” Pain walked forth to the forest, without waiting for Faust’s reply.

Satisfied with his partner’s answer Faust followed Pein deeper into the forest. The request seemed extremely straightforward and easy, it was just a rescue mission. The two would be facing some Vulcans, an ape like creature that often stayed in cold northern regions. Faust had crossed paths with the brute beast before but never really had an issue with them. In his father’s domain they were all killed off leaving only the pets that his father cared for to remain. A group of them coming near a town though was what made Faust slightly nervous, the beast were not known for approaching larger cities for fear of humans but it was not totally unheard of. He had known them to attack smaller towns often, but their favorite thing was young women, they were perverts when it came to that subject.

The forest was empty, a few birds remained in the area but he could not hear or smell any dear or foxes. As the two pressed in Faust’s nose picked up the scent of something up ahead, something that was not just some normal woodland creature. He reached out and grabbed Pein’s shoulder lightly. In an almost whisper like voice he spoke to the man. “Hold on there is something up ahead.” He walked past Pein, sniffing the air. He carefully and silently walked through the forest, careful not to step on a twig or branch so that he would not alert whatever was up ahead. He peaked through the small gap in the branches and whatever leafs were left to spot the beast like creature(s) in the small break in the forest up ahead.

Faust seemed rather happy with Pain’s slightly harsh reply, tagging along as the orange haired man led the small group of two deeper into the forest. It was unknown to Pain of what could those trouble making creatures would find interesting on the maidens they snatch, hence their act. Shrugging the thought off his mind, Pain realized the deeper they went, the darker the forest became. It was a sunny morning, there were less clouds to deal with the sunlight, but in the forest, it looked like the day was rather cloudy, with a chance to rain. Not that he would care or fear his surroundings anyway, so Pain decided to just go along the job, intending to finish it sooner.

A few steps later, and something caught Pain’s attention. On one of the low branches, there was a strap of cloth, probably torn when the cloth wearer rushed through the harsh branches. He took it by the hand, inspecting closer when suddenly Faust stopped his steps by a grab on the shoulder. “Hm?”Pain turned around, something else caught Faust’s attention. He was peeking behind some bushes, Pain joining shortly after. He wanted to know the thing that really got his partner’s attention, and so scooted nearer to Faust to see. It was something, furry? Or maybe it was something else, his eyes couldn’t catch it clearly due to the slight darkness and the bush itself. “Whatever that is, I’m leaving it for you to deal with, if you want to.” Stating his lack of interest to engage in a battle, Pain stood up after, letting the torn cloth fall onto the ground.

Faust rolled his eyes and made an annoyed sound as Zancrow told him to handle the creature standing in the open field. As he walked into the bushes he would turn around and give Zancrow a rather annoyed look. “You better expect to handle the next issue, I am not doing all the work here.” He quickly returned his attention back to the creature and instantly disappeared. He would teleport right behind the large beast. It was a Vulcan that was for sure, the Vulcan they were looking for though, he doubted. This one seemed rather small for one that would be brave enough to actually go into town and kidnap a woman. This looked like a rather comment Vulcan that just roamed the woods picking on hikers and nearby residents. Before the creature would even notice Faust he would begin his assault.

The first attack would be a sweep to the legs attempting to knock the beast over(1), followed by a blow from his left open palm to the creature’s back(2), while at the same time his right arm would swing around for a strong blow to the creature’s rib cage(3). Once those blows would land or miss he would teleport right above the beast launching a volley of kicks to the beast’s head and chest (4-7) He would kick off on the head of the beast (8) doing a flip. As he did so his foot would attempt a kick to the jaw of the beast (_9_). Once he landed on the ground he would continue to fight by teleporting once more back to behind the creature launching a serious of five punches starting with his right hand (10-14) He would hop back a few feet and wait to see what would be left of the beast if anything at all.

Pain didn’t reply with anything as Faust went on babbling about him not wanting to do all the job all by himself. It wasn’t something Pain would care anyway, so he thought it would be better if Faust did do all the job after all. Thinking he might use this opportunity to use Faust fully to his favour in this job, Pain nodded at the end of Faust’s babbles, watching as he went to take care of the pesky Vulcan that appeared out of nowhere in the woods. He went and somehow used instant transmission on the Vulcan, disappearing and reappearing behind the Vulcan in a blink of an eye. It somehow amazed him, but only a little. Pain needed to see more of his actions and what was he really capable of before he would really deem that man worthy of getting closer to.

Faust started beating the hell out of the Vulcan, the Vulcan only standing a little of chance against him. It was much as he had anticipated anyway, as Faust was from the tyrannical guild, Savage Skull after all. Known for their violence and stuff, Pain would actually be proud to brag about this ravage guild, but was not able to do so, as he did not like to do such things. He had never even been involved in the large scale crimes the guild did before, and he had never intended to. It’ll just expose him to the public, something he’d hate himself for. Publicity wasn’t the thing he needed most at the moment, nor the thing he needed the least.
