It began as a day like any other, for the small coastal settlement on the eastern shore of Shadow Island. Dark, grey, gloomy... There was no mystery as to why the town was named the Grey Island Settlement. Not many people traveled there on the count of it being so dark and grim. The beaches were rocky and they didn't have very much in the way of tourist attractions. Their only exports were hunting and fishing goods from the nocturnal animals that only lived on and around Shadow Island. They grew large and fearsome, but meaty and very tasty. The tourists that did travel all the way to Shadow Island only came to indulge in the thrill of hunting one of these enormous beasts, but other than that it was a simple little community with not much else to offer. Its harbor was slightly larger than necessary. Only a few ships docked there and it was never used to its full capacity. Though on this day there was one ship that sailed in to the Cove unexpectedly, a ship flying a black flag. What happened next was even more unexpected.
The ship turned its broad side to the settlement and rolled out its cannons. Suddenly the sky was lit with blue light as an enormous lightning bolt struck the town hall and at the same time the cannons blazed setting the town on fire. The sounds of terror filled the town, screams and cannon fire and soon after the howling and cheering of pirates invading the town, pillaging and plundering what was left over by the flame. One of the larger ships at the dock with some offensive capability and quite possibly the last hope of the townspeople was utterly annihilated by a second bolt of lightning and sank thereafter. In minutes, the town had become the property of Pirates and the towns people were left with nowhere to run but in to the forest. "Let none escape! In to the forest me harties and bring them back alive!" The pirates chased the remaining townsfolk in to the woods. What was left of the town now belonged to the pirates and those who survived the initial attack were now held captive.
The cove walled the settlement and provided a natural defense against those who'd seek to take the settlement back by sea. The forest was a death trap for anyone who did not know their way, or did not possess the strength to fight the enormous beasts that dwell within. It seemed as though there was no way to help the people of the Grey Island. Thus it was decided that mages should infiltrate the island from the western side, and make their way to the settlement from there. Aboard a small personal sailboat, Shuhei sailed to the Island which was now in sight. Though he couldn't see it on the count of him being asleep with his hands laid behind his head and his legs crossed. Another day in the life of the White Wizard.
