There’s no fair or unfair in battle.
( There is only victory or in your case, defeat. )
Well, she seemed to appreciate that. Cedric had done his best to answer her anxieties and concerns that were wracking her. Of course he couldn’t really do much about them; they were her own and she would have to work through them in time. But the least he could do was let her know that he understood where she was coming from and wasn’t going to give her grief or be upset over the fact that she had feelings for two people. She had time to work out how her feelings were going to go and he encouraged her to take that time. After all, they had just survived a suicide mission and the last she needed was more stress on her shoulders from it. And no matter what, he wasn’t planning on leaving or pushing her away. Her eyes betrayed her emotions and after a moment of looking into his eyes, she cursed softly and insisted that he was supposed to be a jackass and was turning out to be more than she expected. “Oh I’m still a full time jackass. I just moonlight as wonderful on the weekends,” he teased, his usual smirk coming through at his own humor.
Though he was sure they would discuss the topic more as time went on, there was another thing he wanted to tell her; the decision to give himself a proper name. He went on a bit about some of his thoughts leading up to it and deciding that he would use his attempted murder to reform himself into the person he wanted to be. Cedric Thane would be his name moving forward, letting the morose title of Scourge remain in the past. She teased him over it, saying it was just a bit lofty but it still fit him perfectly. His smile widened a bit at that knowledge, happy that she approved of it. Gently she used her name as she squeezed his hands and as he considered her, she asked him, a bit fitful in her speech, if she could kiss him. She felt it was a bit inappropriate given everything they had discussed but considering all they had gone through and how she’d almost lost him…“Of course,” he encouraged her softly.
Sure, it made things a tiny bit more complicated for her but she was the one asking. And he wasn’t about to deny her a comfort that she so sorely needed -- and he needed as well. She took a moment to work up the further gumption, surprisingly and adorably shy for a moment before she pushed herself up to sit on the edge of the bed. She kissed him softly, tenderly that smoothly became more passionate, though more out of a waterfall of emotions than a desire for anything more physical. He placed his hands comfortably on her back as he kissed her back, just as relieved as her to taste and be close to her once more, exhilarated in having her near him in a way he hadn’t in months at that point.
They pulled apart and she stayed close, leaning in and hiding her face against his chest. He kept his arms wrapped around her, hugging her tight to him as she thanked him for saving her life. “Thank you for doing the same for me,” he whispered softly back, leaning his head down to kiss the top of her head.
And they would remain like that for some time, though Cedric would let her go once she felt comfortable enough to part. With the overwhelming tsunami of emotion behind them, at least for the moment, he felt more comfortable just talking with her, returning to his usual self to make her laugh and shake her head at him. But there was no missing the slight shake as heavy footsteps were approaching from behind their view. “That’ll be our Scengar friend. He’s been checking in on you every waking hour, wanting to know the moment you were awake. I imagine that’s actually where Hosrius ran off to.” Cedric explained as he leaned back on the bed. “Do you think the nurse will get me some popcorn? I’m quite excited to see how this will play out.”
Just as predicted, in came Grubar. The Scengar was forced to bend down to enter the room, slowing his gait as his eyes were glued on Saffron. “Uh… hey,” he said, his lips twitching awkwardly. “‘Bout time you woke up.” He closed his eyes and made a face, clearly kicking himself for the comment. “What I mean is… I’m glad you’re okay. I figured you’d wake up sooner just so you could get up and kick my ass.”
