    Dhaos Naldricht Caulder-small

"Life is just a protein based mechanism made for energy consumption. It really is nothing special."

Name: Dhaos Naldricht (Goes by "Doc")
    Gender: Male
    Age: 72
    Birthday: January, thirteenth
Sexuality: Supposedly heterosexual, but is known to violate anything feminine... regardless of actual gender.
Special Characteristics: Rare hereditary albinism, which has turned his eyes a dull violet-grey shade rather than pure white or grey.

    Personality:

Dhaos is a fine example of a good man who outlives all his reasons to be good; originally a man of deep morality and character, the misfortune of others as well as personal sadness brought the Dhaos of old to his knees. He has survived deep depression, however, and overcame self-destruction... but no one can survive despair alone, and so, Dhaos permitted darkness into himself. Anything respectable about who he once was is gone now, lost to the decay of age and anguish.

Dhaos doesn't care much for belief, or logic; wisdom and courage mean little to him. All this white haired mage cares about is power - despite the reputation of elders valuing knowledge over such things, instead. He gives himself to his passions, his pleasures, and worst of all... his sickest urges. He thrives on torturing and breaking others. He hopes ultimately to subject others to the same kind of ruin he knew decades ago, when all seems lost, and then just loves to see who lives through it and who does not. He has lost and forgotten his own humanity, leading him to regard it as a curiosity, prompting him to study and observe the concept.

Though deeply ingrained with violent desires, Dhaos is actually an intellectual - he studies arts of Necromancy, driven by pursuit of immortality. Biweekly he captures victims whom he experiments on, all of which seldom live to see the light of day again. The mockeries of forbidden science he loves to perform are also horribly painful, gratifying his sadistic urges while yielding knowledge. It is an enjoyable passtime which sates many facets of his sinister being...

Obviously, he's nefarious. But he is also dangerously deceptive... Dhaos was once a warm, loving individual. He's helped many and many live who remember his name, not as a villain, but as a healer and protector. He knows exactly what good looks like - and will imitate it for his own amusement often, leading many to believe he's just a gentle old man rather than an elder mage gone absolutely mad. He has no qualms in turning on his fellow guild mages for self benefit, or even amusement. In his own words, "The sacrifices of many make the pleasures of one".

Dhaos assigns no sanctity or value to the lives of others, to him the world is his oyster and he's free to distort and pry it open as he pleases to get his own little slice of benefit. He's a borderline solipsist, as he doesn't even fully believe that other people are truly alive. He sees other living beings as little more than protein-based mechanisms made for energy consumption, because as far as he can tell in his terribly bent state of mind, that is all they do. There really is nothing special about them... or so he feels, at least.

But he sees himself as different, because he experiences his own consciousness, a state of being he can't really describe... thus be believes the miracle of true life is limited to himself, and thus, no other beings really matter in the grand scheme of things, regardless of his fleeting interest in the mockery of a subject known as "Humanity".

    Likes:

Xx 1 - TORTURE: Dhaos seeks to recreate the circumstances that led to his own despair, which stands still amongst the most pungent state of being he's ever endured. Of course he can never feel that way again... his psyche is irrevocably changed. A heartless monster who thrives on sadism and sheer evil can't really be broken - which is why he became one. But he can observe those who are in such a state of being and figure out what separates the survivors from the deceased, as well as see how others adapt to ruin. Of course he's not just going to wait for you to crumple over in misery - he's seeking to artificially create such emotional and mental states in others and loves doing it. Torture becomes somewhat boring, however, when he becomes more certain that a being is mundane.

Xx 2 - SURGERY: Dhaos experiments on the dead, from anything to see if a new spell stimulates a group of muscle fibers to outright violations of nature. He studies the body only to know how to enhance and sustain his own, which has been repaired and augmented countless times throughout the many years Dhaos has lived. But nothing Dhaos has ever done surgically for his own benefit would've been possible without mutilating the bodies of countless people... living, unliving, and dead all the same. Theoretically he can help others quite a bit, being able to treat many deformities and sicknesses, but the only way to possibly enlist his aid without becoming a victim is to get him something of benefit in return. However, he does sometimes repair his victims too for the hell of it.

Xx 3 - CORRUPTION: Dhaos dabbles in all manners of impurities. From dooming the flower of a maiden to pits of voracious tentacles and then sending her back into the world as a debased harlot, to destroying the precious hope of a human being, Dhaos tests what humans holds sacred in order to gain knowledge of these concepts. Do they break? What do they feel like...? If one can't know how it feels, can one figure out what it might feel like by recognizing the state of being one is in without it? Interestingly enough Dhaos finds many "morals" to be quite similar, as they all are usually violated by similar methods.

Xx 4 - SUBSERVIENTS: If you're somehow traumatized by Dhaos as a victim and don't meet your end, it's because he wants to put you into a specific state of being - a slave with no value for their own self, instead clinging to the value assigned to a being you're conditioned to feel inferior to. That, after all, is the appropriate place for non-sentient beings...

    Dislikes:

Xx 1 - MUNDANES: Mundane means worldly, but it's also a word for humans completely engrossed in simplistic lifestyle with no question as to their own essence or meaning. Dhaos figured out their meaning for them by "science" - they have no meaning. For this reason, he will often refer to others as "Nothings". Because they are nothing, by proxy of the dirt which composes their bodies being meaningless with nothing attached to it.

Xx 2 - SOCIETY: No government in the world would ever allow government to conduct his experiments freely without the limitations of ethics and morals, concepts which he does not even understand. There is nothing more frustrating to him than an inferior being attempting to disrupt his studies. Why should the complacency of a mundane Nothing ever be an excuse to force the same lackluster limitations on those who do actually mean something? Dhaos will accept no limitations on his work, no ethics, no cloud-headed fools seeking to carry out illusory justice.

Xx 3 - STUPIDITY: Dhaos occasionally has rivals who attempt to stop his work. The rivals themselves are often young, intelligent, and full of potential - but "misguided" by foolish ethics and morality. Dhaos doubts they're truly alive much like other useless humans, but there's some flicker of potential in these ones that may hint at them being more than dirt - which he assumes to be the concept they call "humanity". To these youths he'll explain his knowledge, the way he sees the world - but if they protest or refuse it, he just sees them as stupid and he becomes quickly frustrated with the effort he's wasted on them. He'd probably kill them if they shared his views anyway, but nonetheless.

Xx 4 - WASTE: A staple byproduct of human society. Does it know no bounds? Wasted resources, wasted organic matter, and worst of all - wasted potential. It's the insane, unending cycle of needless waste that greatly aids in the theory that humans are nonliving. Only two things act in such ways: one is a virus, the other is a broken machine. Neither are living, so it doesn't matter which is which for the purpose of this statement.

    Motivations:

Xx 1 - IMMORTALITY: A lot of men Dhaos's age just give in to the flow of time and don't even try to keep themselves alive or healthy. Why give up? Life is so good, only nonliving beings choose to waste themselves. Dhaos pursues immortality and endless knowledge, with which freedom has even greater meaning.

Xx 2 - REVENGE: Dhaos has been wronged by a number of people, but rather than just hate those people specifically, he hates all those who are like them; an ex-wife who was a closet homosexual, an antagonistic foe belonging to a certain ethnic group, people belonging to the same social circle... Dhaos hates the entire group the person came from. Because humans are simply machines following set pattern, any who come from the same circumstances as one who pissed him off will surely be the same as the one who wronged him regardless of whether they commit the same wrongs against him. It's the same reason you swat bugs that bite even though they may not have bit you yet - and that's exactly what humans look like to Dhaos.

Xx 3 - CLONING: Dhaos wants to clone himself. It would be dangerous of course, and he would risk bringing another true entity into the world - but what if his clone was without true life, much like all human beings but him? His fantasy is to put the clone through the same events of his own life, and see if it goes differently or not, and if it continued to vary along different patterns with each subsequent clone. The only reasonable explanation would of course be that each clone had a different "soul", assuming they were all exactly the same in the beginning and exposed to the same circumstances. Then there would be the matter of seeing if others behaved differently in their own lives, repeated as clones over and over... Additionally, self clones would be able to provide the most ideal organs and tissue for Dhaos to transplant into himself, as he could essentially life indefinitely provided he maintained a steady supply of younger clones. He also has fantasies of watching his own clones die... he desperately wants to discover a means of achieving this.

Xx 4 - SCIENCE: Dhaos is a genius and he knows it, he's just not the kind of genius you might think of. Society worships geniuses who make technology, who are calm and logical, perhaps even atheistic. Technology is just a means to an end for Dhaos, he doesn't care about logic or balance as long as he's gratified or empowered, and his mad experiments are all in pursuit of knowledge - enlightenment, even. He assumes there is a deity, and that he was given true life for the purpose of using all the non-living beings around himself to attain immortality, and thus be able to live long enough to perpetually continue learning. Dhaos is more of a a madman than a genius... but then again, many geniuses have been consumed by madness, wherein no one has any right to deny Dhaos.

    Fears:

Xx 1 - LIFE: There is not one more thought more revolting to Dhaos than the notion that other beings having sentience, despite their wasteful, useless, and thoughtless states of being. He feels that he is the only one whom truly lives, but this is such a difficult thing to assume, so much so he occasionally questions it... in fact, he would not be able to enjoy the sadism in torturing others (The research might still be gratifying) if he believed other people were just lifeless machines. If they were alive Dhaos would no longer feel superior to the "human" race... but they also give him much doubt to their conscious being as well, making it easy still to feel they're just wads of protein that poop for the most part.

Xx 2 - DEATH: Ironic for death to come right after life on a list of fears, isn't it? But when you believe you are the sole torch of real living existence on a planet of nothing but organic machines with no souls, your own life is so much more important. To Dhaos, he is the only meaning the planet and all it's people have - because to him, he's the only really living being. He believes he is different. He knows only his own life. So for him to lose that life wouldn't just be the life of Dhaos dying... it would be the life of purpose dying. Mysteries unsolved, hidden destiny unfulfilled.

Xx 3 - BOREDOM: It feels like mental decay. Like the brain rotting, falling dormant, lulling into an unpleasant blankness from which it just might not awake... that's what boredom feels like to you, right? No? That's how Dhaos feels. Being a genius comes with some strange quirks and weaknesses - Dhaos can never relax. He becomes bored, and is difficult to entertain. Excellent memory means never being amused by the same thing twice... and for a subsequent viewing to be utterly boring. Boredom is like pain to Dhaos. Actual pain is just a nerve response to him, but boredom? That's wasted activity - he must perpetually learn and explore new states of being. If you are bored, you are wasted - and that much closer to being a Mundane if you should lose value of your own consciousness.

    General Appearance

    Height: 6'1"
    Weight: 201 Lbs.
Hair: Long, smooth, silky white hair - does not seem to show any signs of balding, but has numerous surgical scars on scalp hidden beneath hair.
Eyes: Dull greyish-violet, with an intense but smoldering look in them.
Skin Tone: Pale albino white, not quite ghoulish and not quite living.
    Appearance:

One doesn't see the countless scars, neat and abundant, all over Dhaos's body - they are concealed by a tight fitting, red and black jumpsuit, which even encompasses his neck, hands, and feet seamlessly. The material is thin but tough and very tight, showing off exquisite muscular structure - Dhaos has the body of a superb athlete less than half his age, as he's transplanted muscular tissue from the young into himself and continues to do so frequently when it begins to decay. Similar actions with organs and even circulatory aspects of the body keep his form healthy... he does not stoop or slouch, he walks tall and intimidating, but greyed. No amount of unholy surgery can change that. But of course, Dhaos never cared for aesthetics to begin with, despite his vanity.

Artificially maintained physique aside, Dhaos commands a very bold presence. Not in the good way either - he easily frightens small children when not wearing his "happy old man" face, and just as easily frightens most adults. He doesn't have to say a word sometimes - you can feel the malevolent, stifling aura surrounding his being. His eyes are gently shrouded by a devious shadow, their intense gaze staring through all the same, deep with an unnatural drive in them. The smile of his pale lips is never comforting when genuine, for it's never shown for anything but the unmasking of twisted malice.

His features are masculine, a tad slender and gaunt, as is the look that comes with age... but though one sees wrinkles and some well disguised scars, the unusual tightness and vigor of Dhaos's form is also apparent. It's not really pleasant, he's intimidating even if he looks "good", just for the madness that can be seen. He is also often seen wearing a long, lab-style white coat with some subtle alterations including the symbol of an owl on it's left shoulder, which he is largely indifferent towards for it's lack of functionality. The coat is torn in some places and smeared with blood from frequent human dissections.
