A council interference - job Harland & Kairi (Village Protection)

'They attacked again!! What about the squadron we had stationed there in that village'
Harland was furious, recently the Magic Council had received various reports about a bandit group that had the guts to attack the peaceful River Village. And as a response the Council had decided to send a squadron of Rune Knights to protect that village, but without success. The group of Rune Knights that should have protected the town were over run by the bandits and utterly defeated. But instead of staying put and fight till the last man they decided to run back to Era with their tails between their legs. And once back in Era Harland didn't really received them with open arms, instead he started scolding them over their actions.
For Harland running wasn't an option and certainly not for just a group of cutthroats and thugs. There for he saw this as a blight and disgrace for the Rune Knights and the Magic Council.

But after Harland was done with yelling against the young knights there another course of action that had to be made, clearly just sending a group of Rune Knights wasn't enough to withstand the bandit attacks. 'Tsk I won't underestimate those mediocre group of thugs again. This time I will sent an entire banner regiment including myself!!' But Harland couldn't decide on this all by himself, first he had to gather the other council members to discuss this problem and maybe ask for some assistance as well. After al he was getting old. Harland just hoped that the other members saw the need of protecting a small town like that as much as he did.
He grabbed a small communication lacrima that was connected to his secretary in front of his office and yelled through it.
'YOUNG MAN!!!' Harland could hear the young desk clerk jump up and let out a yell of surprise
'Get In contact with Kairi Yushima, and tell him to meet me in the council room. And while your at it call the other members too. They might want to hear this as well'
'Y... Yes sir!' was being heard from the other side of the lacrima

Harland walked out of his office past the young desk clerk, who stared at him nervously. Only quickly stare at his own desk when Harland gave him a mean look. After that he shook his head 'he's a good boy, but way to spineless.' luckily for the boy he was just a temporary replacement till his usual secretary got back.
Harland missed his old secretary, a young woman of twenty eight. Just as strict as he was, and maybe even stricter. With an ice cold exterior look, even Harland got nervous around her sometimes. She was also a good advisor and wasn't scared to say her own opinion on certain matters.

After ten minutes or so Harland arrived at the meeting room of the council. And took his seat at the long and round table that was entirely open. Where he slowly put in his hands against each other while leaning on the table. Hoping the other members would show up fast.

'Ah mister Yoverin, good to have you here. It's a shame the other aren't here, but I think we ourselves could handle this.' prompted Harland
Harland took a deep sigh, it probably was for the best that there was only one council member besides him to listen to his worries. The others would try to discuss this first out anyway.
'Recently there have been bandit attacks on the outer villages of Fiore, especially the Peace Village had to deal with these attacks. So thinking just like the rest of other council members that this was just a mere bandit trying to raid some loot, I didn't saw the a big issue back then. So I decided to send a squadron of Rune Knights to deal with the problem. And that would be enough, under normal circumstances.
Apparently the reports I got back from the squadron say that the bandits are highly organized, almost like an army. And with the recent activity of a certain dark guild, it worried me. To the extent that I think we have to send council members themselves to investigate this matter'

Harland looked straight councilor Yoverin, this was probably the man he needed. Just like him he liked to get things done quickly when it is needed. And didn't back down when to act harsh. He would surely see the hidden danger in this. After all we couldn't have what happened to Blue Pegasus a little while ago. Definitely not to one of our towns.
But little did Harland know that some time after these events, he would stand above Magnolia Town watching the same thing he was actually worried about.

'Yeah that would be wise, but let's be honest. Casualties are most of the time unavoidable. It's more a matter on how we deal with that personally. And about the one leading those ragtag group of bandits is entirely up to you, it doesn't matter to me what happens to him. Only that justice will be served... one way or the other'
Harland showed no smile or anything that could show his true emotion about Yoverin's plans for the enemy. He just kept his mouth shut after he was speaking, the truth was actually that Harland didn't really cared for the punishment this time. Probably because what was in store for that man was a lot worse then what the Magic Council could ever do.
The old man didn't know what it would be, but there was one thing he did know. If councilor Yoverin wanted that man for his own personal goals it would be a sure fact that the men would get what was coming to him. But Harland knew it had something to do with the magic that Yoverin practiced but what that was, is still unknown to the old mage.

Once the two council members arrived at the River Village a few days later they saw that the town was already taken by the enemy. The town walls were desecrated with the enemies symbols. Poorly painted on them.
'Tch such a disgrace, spare none of them. They will suffer the verdict of the Magic Council'
The town was surrounded by small encampments of four or five tents all around. With banners placed all around them. They sure didn't hide their own presence. Something that was probably the only admirable feature they had.
The enemy bandits still hadn't noticed them, giving the councilors the option of a surprise attack. But that wasn't really Harland's style, he did however see the benefits of such a devious tactic. But he was more of a facing the enemy type. His magic showed that, the vast cannons artillery he had to his capacity showed that he and his magic were strong headed. Perfectly aligned with each other. It wasn't a mere tool for him anymore not on this age. It was a part of him.
Well then let's see how many are sitting around the village. I can see various different classes sitting around. But none of them seem like an immediate threat. So let us begin Councilor. Fort San Felipe del Muerte!!!'

A vast array of cannons appeared out of the ground with a loud crunching sound that echoed all over the valley. A mechanism of cannons spurting out of it and connecting with each other. Covering an entire area of fifty meters. With Harland and Yoverin in the middle of this fortress.
The devastating sounds of the cannons carried on till the last one of the huge barrels had risen and took aim towards the fields in front of the town.

Harland laughed loud but short after Steigmaz remark. Which was true, Harland was indeed all about  show of force. Going all out and end it quickly. He looked down upon the enemy who were charging at them, a futile action off course. They were surely running into their own deaths, something that Harland would give to them without hesitation.
But one of the enemy appeared a little bit more capable then the rest.
"You stupid fucking Rune Knight bastards never learn! I'll take down your war weapon, with this! Iron-Make: Meltdown!!!"
One enemy mage was brave enough to challenge them head on and as he shouted his insults a magic circle appeared before the man's hands. Which he shoved out and started to shine. From out the magic pentacle several sharp pointy metal piece infused with electricity were being shot towards Harlands immense fortress. And came crashing into it, leaving the fortress with a size able opening for the enemy mages to walk through. But it was just a small opening in comparison with the entire array of cannons that created a maze all together.
'They walked right into it.. the fools. Councilor Steigmaz, I'll leave the ones inside the fortress to you. Especially the iron user. The ones outside are mine.'

The large cannons took aim towards the mages and bandits that were still running towards Harlands fortress. Unknowingly of what was yet to come.
Then it was to be heard, the devastating deafening sounds of the cannons firing towards the foolish enemy. Harland itself was used to these sounds and to him it was like an orchestra of destruction.
Death rained upon the enemy, blasting away some of the weaker bandits. Actually all those who couldn't defend themselves against the raw power that Harlands cannons provided them with. And when the echoes cleared he could here the screams of pain of some who were wounded.

Harland noticed some strange echo that seemed to be coming from councilor Steigmaz. He couldn't hear it clearly because the fortress was immense with his many paths and walls in it, so it was just a faint recognition of the voice. He didn't know what it did but the old man knew it didn't bode well for the enemy. But Harland didn't had time to concentrate on the enemy inside the fortress, there were still enough outside to be taken care off and

While Counciler Steigmaz was punishing those inside the fortress for their insolence against the law of the Magic Council, Harland made sure that the ones outside properly taken care off. And once again his cannons took aim towards the enemy bandits, mages and other pillagers. And they were even joined from the ones that were still holding up inside the town wall itself. Another angry mob of lawbreakers had join the fray ready to finish off the two council members.
'Tch, pests. Everyone who goes against the law of the council are nothing but a mere nuisance. A muddy spot on the serenity that our law brings to the magical world.'
Harland's was loud and stern and quite surprisingly it was to be heard above the loud the noises from the cannons taking aim.

Then the orchestra that was his fortress was to be heard again, the loud barrage of the cannons firing at the enemies front line. Who had nothing to protect themselves with. The only thing they could do was try to take cover on the ground. Or pray to anything that they could consider their deity.
And then the moment of impact was there, a long line of explosions. Crushing the earth and everyone standing on it. Obliterated in the heat from the explosions.
