“You can’t just keep me like a damn prisoner! I’m the niece of Krampus! Let me go this instant and I’ll forgive you! I’ll even sweeten the deal by making sure you’re forever on the nice list!” The guitar wielding woman shouted at the top of her lungs but unfortunately for her, no one could come close even if they wanted to, her shrieks were simply so deafening that people turned and ran.

The kitsune’s new associate was incredibly effective at amplifying her voice and the christmas devil was certainly shouting now, hollering non stop. Lady Krampus had yet to accept her fate and had been a complete pain in the backside, ever since the kitsune had captured her. Yet, Shirayuki refused to let the woman go, no matter how much garbage Krampus spoke because she was useful, her magic being an effective way of luring opponents into a false sense of security.

Shirayuki, dressed in her usual human attire, had brought her pet to the festival in the hopes of getting to know her better, however, that didn’t seem to be of any interest to Krampus. The woman was as hostile as ever and the shapeshifter was incredibly tempted to simply bind and gag her right in the middle of the place. No one would bat an eyelid, given how stealthy and swift Shirayuki was and the devil had already experienced that more than once. A part of the dark mage reckoned that deep down, the horned woman actually enjoyed it, which did occasionally bring a smile to the currently red headed woman’s face. She reckoned that was how she’d end up breaking her, through pleasure rather than pain.

“Give it a rest.” The kitsune replied, giving her pet a cold stare. “This is a Halloween event and all these foolish mortals think that your hollering is just a means of scaring people, one that is working wonders I might add. You’re going to work for me as long as I want you to and there’s nothing you can do. I beat you in fair combat and you damn well know it. I own you until I say otherwise and your uncle will agree with me. I notice that he hasn’t tried to save you. Perhaps at Christmas, I’ll have a word with him then and see what he has to say for himself?”

“There are demons with warmer hearts than yours.” The devil hissed. “I can’t believe you’d drag me here and present me in front of these people.”

“Would you rather I take you back to the ship and tie you to the ceiling again?”
    Shirayuki slyly asked.

“I...HEY! Don’t talk about things like that in public.” Krampus responded, her cheeks turning a deep shade of red. “This is humiliating enough.”

“It doesn’t have to be. Just relax and enjoy yourself or else.”

    “Or else what?”

The kitsune briefly glanced up, her eyes sparkling as they fell upon the tallest building in the town, before looking back at her pet. Krampus followed her gaze, her blush darkening further.

    “You…You wouldn’t!”

    “Try me.”

Her threat seemed to work and the christmas devil did indeed fall silent for a while, in fact, if Shirayuki didn’t know better, she’d say that her pet was starting to relax. There was a looseness to her shoulders and after a while, she started to look around with a little more interest. That was pleasing for the kitsune and she felt as though it was alright to lead her pet towards one of the activities, without Krampus blowing a fuse and whining again. On the contrary, as the pair approached the large cauldron, which was being stirred by a woman wearing a witch outfit, the eyes of the devil seemed to light up, which caused Shirayuki to smile.

“What’s this activity about?” The devil asked the kitsune, looking generally interested and glancing down at the strange concoction.

“You take a drink of the brew and something strange might happen.” Shirayuki replied with a smile. “It can do all kinds of things to you but it’s not all that dangerous.”

After giving the witch a once over, Krampus would ask, sounding rather reasonable for once. “Can I try it…please? I’m curious and I’ve never done this before.”

“You’ve changed your tune all of a sudden. Feeling more cooperative?” The kitsune answered with a raised eyebrow. “You wouldn’t have been caught dead five minutes ago.”

“I let my temper get the best of me, OK? This whole thing is going to take some getting used to and I’m still figuring it all out. I won’t cause any more trouble so please can I drink from the cauldron?” She sounded almost sweet.

After watching her pet for a few moments, Shirayuki would nod and hand the devil a cup. “Off you go then. Fill it to the brim and drink it down.”

The devil eagerly followed Shirayuki’s instructions, taking the offered cup and filling it to the brim. She looked more excited by the moment and even the ancient kidnapper looked rather bemused by it. Krampus truly did beat to the sound of her own drum but the redhead couldn’t help but be a little fond of her, even if she was a pain in the ass. If the devil would just accept their new bond, then there’d be no reason for Shirayuki to be harsh at all.

Taking a long drink from the cup, Krampus would become a little unsteady on her feet, resulting in Shirayuki taking a hold of her arm in order to help steady her. The devil’s eyes glazed over for a moment or two before clearing and it was about a minute or so before she seemed to snap out of her brain fog. Shaking her head, she’d turn to Shirayuki. “That was weird. All I could see was blue for a while there and I swear that I could see…” She cut herself off and shrieked, before pointing to what seemed to be thin air. “Eek! I see spirits! They're everywhere! They must want to get me for putting them on the naughty list!”

The redhead gave her a funny look and then pulled the devil away from the cauldron. “OK. That’s enough brew for you. Let’s try something else.”

“I’m not kidding! I can see them everywhere!” Krampus exclaimed, sounding a little painicky. “No matter where I look, I can see their ghoulish faces staring back at me! It’s not going to be this way forever, is it?”

“No, I don’t think so. It’ll go away on its own after a while and I doubt that what you’re seeing is going to hurt you. Just take a few deep breaths and relax.” Shirayuki replied, putting a comforting hand on the devil’s shoulder. “I should have warned you about what might happen a little more strongly. Just give it time and you’ll be just fine.”

The devil seemed to take the kitsune’s words to heart, breathing deeply for several moments in an attempt to calm herself. Shirayuki kept her hand where it was and after a few seconds, Krampus seemed to recover enough, her shaking coming to a complete stop. “Alright. I have a hold of myself now. Thanks for being there for me when I needed you. I swear that I’ve never seen anything as weird as some of the ghosts I’m seeing now and I meet them all the time.”

“Well, we’re bonded now, I could hardly let you suffer. There’s a great deal that you’re going to have to learn to survive among the mortals and although there are gaps in my knowledge, it’s my task to teach you.” The patient redhead answered, finally removing her hand.

Krampus seemed taken aback by that but after a few moments, she shrugged and responded. “I suppose so. I confess that I’d never expected any of this when I attacked that village. Who’d have thought that I’d run into you?”

    “Your luck is awful.”
Shirayuki shot back, a light chuckle escaping her lips.

As the two walked, they came across another activity booth, where a young male was quickly hitting something with a hammer. His face was bright red with exertion as he desperately tried to hit some fast moving creatures that appeared to be coming out of holes on the machine that he was hitting. He was cursing like mad and soon enough, he stormed off, after giving the machine a kick.

“What was all that about?” The devil asked curiously.

“Looks like one of those games where you have to whack as many creatures as you can. They pop up fast and you have to hit them before they disappear again.”
Shirayuki explained. “Fancy having a go?”

“Absolutely.” Krampus answered, before heading straight for the machine, a curious Shirayuki following close behind.

There were nine holes in total and as Krampus took the hammer in hand, a countdown started on the screen above. Focusing intently, the devil waited and as soon as the timer hit zero, the game would begin. She was pretty good in truth, smashing many of the ghouls that popped up in good time, her face breaking out into an excited grin as the pace quickened. It was difficult to tell just how many she was able to hit but by the end of the game, she was smiling from ear to ear and even the activity organiser gave her a nod of approval.

Shirayuki was smiling too and gave her pet a clap on the shoulder. “Great job. I’d say you definitely won the game.”

Krampus laughed and replied. “That was a blast! How about we try one more game?”

“Alright.” The redhead said approvingly, the two walking off almost arm in arm at this point.

It appeared that Shirayuki’s plan was working.

It wasn’t long before the two women came across another intriguing looking game and Krampus was soon enough giving Shirayuki that rather adorable look, like a puppy who desperately wanted a treat. She had certainly taken a liking to the idea of the festival and the redheaded shapeshifter was pleased with how things were turning out. Shirayuki didn’t want to have to fight with her new pet and there was a touch of fondness in the eyes of the kitsune as she looked back at Krampus.

“I take it that you want to have a go at this one too?” Shirayuki asked with a smile.

“How’d you know?” Krampus replied with a raised eyebrow.

“The look in your eyes is giving you away. You look like a child on…Christmas morning.”
The kitsune joked in response, amused.

“That was an awful pun and you know it!”
The devil retorted although she couldn’t help but chuckle. “I’d like to try the game though. It looks like fun.”

“Then let’s go over there and have a look. I wouldn’t want to spoil your enjoyment, now that you’ve loosened up.” The kitsune teased in reply.

With that, the duo would approach the table that had caught their eyes and Krampus was soon waiting for her turn, having glanced over the rules that were written on a board beside magical cups. Moments prior to the game started, a piece of candy was placed in one of the cups, to show that it wasn’t rigged, before it began, the devil’s eyes focused fully on the cup that she believed the candy was in. At first, the cups moved slowly but over time, the pace increased but despite that, Krampus remained calm, her attention fully on the game. After a minute or so, the cups came to a stop and the devil uncovered the one that she believed the candy to be in. She was absolutely right too and without a word, she gulped down the candy with glee.

With a gleeful clapping of her hands, she’d turn to Shirayuki, beaming. “Thanks for bringing me here today. I know that we haven’t got off on the right foot but I promise that I’ll try and stop being such a pain. You’re not as cold as you seem, are you?”

Another smile creeping across her features, the kitsune would wrap an arm around the devil and pull her in close. “As cold as you want me to be.”

Laughing, the two would take a brief glance around them, before walking off again and vanishing into the crowd. It had been a nice diversion and hopefully the start of something special between the kitsune and her bonded devil.
