It sounded like a scam to Tad, but Sojiro and Takumi had gotten them: the new iLac. They seemed to like theirs just fine and the item seemed to work well for what they needed. But something still seemed off to the lanky mage. The idea of a magical item being sold in a place where magical items don't work sounds fishy. It's like, 'hey, here's a thing that won't work right now, but when you get far enough away it will, but if it doesn't tech support can't help you cause we're based here and if you bring it back we won't be able to tell if it works properly or not.' Like, how does this make sense?
And while there was some truth to that sentiment, Tad subconsciously was worried about going to the Neutral Grounds. Fear often held much weight in the decision making process and the idea of being powerless made the youngest Windrift scared. He was used to being fast and able to avoid many attacks, not to mention shooting lightning, but in the Neutral Grounds, he might not be that fast. He might just be average because his lightning magic's speed boost wouldn't function. When you learn to fight a certain way and then that way is taken from you, it can scare people, it scared Tad even if he didn't know it.
Regardless, Tad now found himself riding on some sort of coal burning train into the mega-city so that he could get the new iLac. As the train crossed the border, Tad could feel the world around him speed up. The slow moving woman trying to get to the back of the car started jogging while the falling crumbs from the man to Tad's right began speeding towards the ground as if they were on fast forward. As Tad experienced time return to normal speed, he began to feel dizzy but, eventually, he acclimated to the change in time.
Unfortunately, Tad couldn't help but keep his senses on high alert because, in the back of his mind, he knew that he was slower than normal. Despite that, Tad had no issues and rode the train until it was his stop. Even walking down the street, he felt his eyes moving from one person to another, worriedly keeping track of everyone as they moved by. The streets were full and every single person was a possible threat. He was being mentally taxed by his own fear of being powerless, but he entered the store. Getting away from the people was nice.
Tad went up to the counter girl, "Hi, I'm here to get the new iLac."
"Oh sure, sure. Let's see..." She bent down and opened a cabinet, then reached inside and pulled out the box, which held the new iLac. "Here you go, let's see... that'll be 500 jewels."
"Alright." Tad paid the woman and left the store. Tad wanted to get play with his new toy, but because of the Neutral Grounds he couldn't. He headed back to the train station. He was really excited to get back to the normal world, so he could play with his iLac and cause he wanted his magic back.
