Personality: Giuseppe Rumpelstiltskin is as sly and cunning as they come, charming, charismatic and full of swagger. Like many ne'er-do-wells, Rumplestilskin has no qualms in using his own magic, skills and talents to do and get whatever he wants with little to no regard for others in terms of ownership or fairness. To him, the world is an inherently unfair place and he is using everything at his disposal to get ahead, to "play the game" so to speak. Theft, deception, perjury and trickery are his bread and butter.

Rumplestiskin is not by any means a violent man. While certainly capable of violence, as anyone is, he prefers more subtle means of getting the job done. He likes to talk, trick and scheme his way in and out of situations as it pleases him, reserving any acts of violence to when it is an absolute must more often than not. He especially looks down on those individuals that use violence to get what they want, viewing them as stupid and, to a degree, privileged in so much as they squander their power.

If there is one thing he hates, and therefore loves, it is naivety. He does not understand why most people do not see things as obviously one way as he does and so finds immense joy in targeting and taking advantage of those he views as naïve. His enjoyment is less malicious and more mean spirited more often than not, viewing a gullible person as vulnerable and easy to take advantage of and thus are deserving of being taught a lesson by his own special means of trickery. After all, how is it his fault that they can't see he's a bad guy?

Despite all of this, Giuseppe views himself as more of a Robin Hood type fellow than a James Bond villain, using his status as a guild wizard and abilities to take from those with too much and giving to those who cannot get for themselves. He is generous, in a fashion, especially when it comes to the spreading of wealth since he can essentially create as much of it as he wants on demand. Also, despite his villainous nature, he knows how to tell the difference between friend and foe and thus reign in his lying and trickery, reserving it for those that deserve it and/or he can get something out of. All the world's a stage, and he knows his role on it.


Likes:

• Chicanery: Giuseppe can't help himself; he likes tricking people to get what he wants! It's just so easy for him to manipulate others with words and overwhelmingly wordy contracts, how could it not be his favorite hobby?
  
• Fashion: You know what they say; everybody's crazy about a sharp dressed man. Appearances are everything for the majority of people, so if you look nice and handsome, most people won't even realize the fact that you're robbing them blind.
  
• Power: Not your garden variety big magic and spells, no, but the more abstract definition of power: the capacity or ability to direct or influence the behavior of others or the course of events. What could be more sweet than to control people just by them hearing your name, after all?
  
• Martial Arts: It's one of his favorite past times and certainly his favorite sort of sport. Martial prowess is something he greatly admires, respects and seeks out as both a practice and a sport - especially when it's of a non-magical variety.
  
• The Fine Arts: Giuseppe enjoys the finer things in life. Food, music, art - only the finest of things are suitable for his appreciation and enjoyment.
  

Dislikes:

• Naivety: Giuseppe can't stand people who are naïve. It just gets under his skin when gullible people eat up whatever they're told without examining the facts, reading the fine print so to speak. It's why he delights in tricking people so much; anyone he manages to trick were naïve to trust him in the first place.
  
• Losing Control: It's not exactly the most obvious fact about Giuseppe, but he's something of a control freak. He likes knowing more than other people do, holding more cards so to speak. Any time the script is flipped on him and he's out of control, he does whatever he can to gain some vestige of control back in his hands.
  
• Secrets: Ironically for someone who spends so much time lying and tricking others, Rumpelstiltskin doesn't like secrets being kept from him. It ties into his dislike of not having control; not having all of the information invites the possibility of things slipping out of his control. Thus, secrets are pretty high on his list of things he doesn't enjoy.
  

Motivations:

• Devilry: Being wicked for the sake of being wicked is it's own reward.
  
• Power: Not the power to destroy the world or blow up entire cities, no, but the power to be the puppeteer, to be pulling the strings that make everyone else move, to see the stage where others can only see the play.
  
• Justice: Believe it or not, Giuseppe Rumpelstiltskin has quite a strong since of justice - or perhaps karma is a better word. He's quite fond of giving people their just rewards, especially to those that really, truly, actually deserve to be punished. He may be rightly considered a villain by most, but being truly evil? Certainly not!
  

Fears:

• Intimacy: Like. The physical kind. PDA. It's extremely uncomfortable for him to witness, think about or deeply consider to the point of nearly being a phobia.
  
• Irrelevancy: To have such a lack of power, of a presence within the world, that you might as well not exist? That you are guaranteed to be forgotten, lost within the sands of time? What could be more horrifying?
  
• Isolation: Giuseppe is a people person. Truly. He can't do any of the things he deeply enjoys by himself, so being forced to stay away from people for whatever reason? It's a deep source of anxiety for him.
