"I think you're misunderstanding. You had a great IDEA, though it seems to have been poorly executed."
"Poorly executed?! Well I didn't exactly see you usin those wings of yours to help out?" The voices echoed across the mountain path as two individuals made their way through the the jagged peaks. The blazen-haired maiden known as Nymara sauntered with a slouched stance, her brilliant white coat covered in tracks of dirt and mud, a few bruises lining her waist and back. Beside her strode the ever honourable exceed Lucky, who was garbed in small cat-sized armour. He lifted his small faceplate to look up at his companion, his whiskers and orange fur popping out of the opening. "And as I stated earlier, my magic reserves were all but sapped from that last encounter, and by the looks of it so are yours." Lucky noted, tilting his head slightly to look at the scrapes across Nymara's body. Instinctively she sighed. "So now we gotta wander between these big rocks till we find some way out?" the dragonslayer asked. "We are most fortunate to even still be alive, lady Nymara. May I remind you how close those ancient guardians were to ending you? The fact we managed to complete the job in first place, let alone escape the ruins, is blessing enoungh." The cat spoke with a stoic tone, prompting Nym to roll her shoulder in discomfort as his words did little to solve their current troubles. "It's just a shame we had to destroy the whole temple. Though the professor only asked for the relic, so we should be alright." At this statement Nymara simply rolled her eyes. "Well they didn't exactly give me much of a choice! How many magic snake statues have you fought in the past, hmm?"
"You should remember the lessons of Lady Akemi, as she would have likely been far harsher than my words had she seen that battle." He hissed, though at the mention of her mentor Nymara couldn't help but agree with him. She was lucky this was a solo job that didn't require the Twilight Dragon's oversite, otherwise Nymara would have likely been in for a painful scolding for her destructive nature.
After what felt like an eternity of walking Nymara's enhanced slayer senses began to pick up on something. It smelled like a town! When she made this realization her dreary face lit up and she looked down at Lucky. "Oi! I think we finally found some sort of civilization up ahead. Hopefully they can give us some food!" She stated with a fanged smile and eagerly picking up her pace. "Or better yet some directions. I still have no idea where we ended up after that rockslide..." The exceed mumbled as hopped onto Nym's shoulder. Soon enough it was revealed that Nymara's senses hadn't failed her, and the duo came to a rather quaint looking town nestled high in the mountains. Sure enough they could see smokestacks from the buildings, and Nym's stomach almost instantly responded with a low growl. "Hope they got a tavern."
It was certainly a place neither Nymara nor Lucky had been to before, but it was evident that it supported a stable population from its size. As the two made their way closer to the outskirts of the town they were greeted only by a few stares or completely ignored by the inhabitants. Lucky cautiously watched their surroundings while Nym continued to follow her nose. Soon enough it led her straight into the door of a small inn. It was rather quiet, as few souls tread these grounds during the midday hours. It didn't matter to much to the wizard though, as she was more focused on the scent of food. "Now THIS is the reward we deserve!" She proclaimed with a wide smile as she seated herself near the innkeeper. "Barmie! Two ales for me and a cup of milk for the kitten!" She called out to the distracted worker. Lucky would descend from the girl's shoulder and sit upon the stool next to her. The innkeeper arched an eyebrow at the sight of an armoured cat in his hall but didn't think about it too long. "Oh and something with meat! I can smell your kitchen!" She exclaimed rather excitedly. The innkeeper's face looked rather unimpressed with her personality as he crossed his arms and looked at the two of them. "I- I uhh deeply apologize for my friend's rather crude method of requesting your service, we've just had a long day." Lucky chimed in, seeing the expression of the innkeeper and attempting to intervene. With a deep sigh the man finally spoke. "Aight then, that'll be 13 Jewel" He stated rather dryly. Nym reached deep into her coat pockets and fiddled for a painfully long minute as Lucky stared at her before she finally pulled out a crumpled wad of cash. "Uhhh, right then. This much?" She asked. Without responding the innkeeper took it from her hand and began to work on their request. Sliding down two mugs straight to the redhead before placing some milk for Lucky. "We can take a break, but I strongly advise we don't dawdle too long. We gotta get back to the guild with this 'special' item as quickly as possible." The exceed said in a quieter tone as the innkeeper vanished behind a wall and Nymara started to down her first mug. "Mhm. Mhm. I understand *hic* what you're saying completely. Hey, you think this place has any gambling??"
