Description
- Godforged Lore:
Long ago, there was a theomachy. The new gods, also called the Divines, had grown tired of the reign of the older gods, referred to as the Primordials, and sought to usurp and displace them. As was expected, a war broke out, with various beings either being coerced, influenced, or manipulated, to join either side in the battle. In the end, the younger gods won, and the elder gods were overthrown and cast into prisons to rot till the end of time. That is the usual story we often hear in such stories. Except that, in this story, the reverse was the case. The Primordials defeated the Divines, and enslaved them. However, the battle between gods, as expected, was cosmically destructive, and left most of the universe of these beings in pieces. As such, the Primordials decided to seek a new, more fruitful universe in which to thrive. To ensure that the Divines would never rise up against them, they culled them, distilling those they did not need into energy which they used for their sustenance. The others were kept in breeding chambers, and these Divines were born, raised to maturity, bred, and culled for the energy on which the Primordials would feed. As this happened, the Primordials began traveling dimensions in great interdimensional-voyaging vessels called Arks, seeking a perfect place in which to settle, with the Divines serving as cattle, and the beings that had been subjugated by the Primordials and forced to worship them as gods acting as their vassals. Each Ark was bound to the life force of a Primordial, who was its ruler, and this ruler could be the sole Primordial in the Ark, or be waited on by lesser Primordials. To be waited on was easier, but carried the chance of being usurped, and the more paranoid Primordials preferred to rule their Arks alone. An Ark possessed its own unique dimension space, and could not be boarded except by its owner’s permission, making it an impregnable bastion from which a Primordial could plot and research.
In time, the Primordials arrived in our dimension. They quickly realized that they could not interact corporeally with the beings of this dimension, although they could probably be sensed, the sense coming in the form of a strange and nameless, sometimes maddening, terror. But this dimension was vast, and had ethernano, or magic, a resource which the Primordials discovered to be quite nourishing. They discovered they could not exist for long in our dimension, so they would stay in their vessels in the space between dimensions, and make temporary forays into this dimension, using temporary shells to appear corporeal, said shells having the curious feature of possessing massively oversized heads. They could never stay long before having to return to their ships, else the laws that ruled in this dimension, which were contrary to their existence, would eventually degenerate them. They stole denizens of the new dimension to experiment on, and discovered that by placing a magical seal (quite similar to what people of Earthland call ‘Curses’) on these foreign creatures, said creatures would begin to absorb the essence of their surroundings. Results were best in surroundings filled with death, and the results were travesties of twisted souls and flesh, much less intelligent than their previous states, but much more willing to obey the Primordial command, since the bearer of the seal was subject to whoever placed it there. Humans were the most manageable of the raw materials for the creation of these abominations. These abominations they called ‘Chosen’, being careful to abduct the Chosen from places where they would not be missed, like would-be victims of a large scale disaster, so that no one would seek the missing, and be made wiser to the presence of the Primordials.
As they sought ways to become more permanent features in our dimension, a Primordial ruler of an Ark grew attached to a Divine. The Divine was not as enthused as the Primordial about the relationship, but played along. The Divine bided their time, seeking a way to strike a blow at their Primordial overlord, all the while pretending to obey the whims of the Primordial, who had mystical powers over the cycle of creation, preservation and destruction. Now the story here takes a tangent, to northwestern Pergrande, no stranger to the horrors of the Bello-Pergrandian hostilities. One night, during a battle in the region, a good number of Pergrandians and Bellians were kidnapped by Chosen, to be made to swell the abominable ranks. One of these, a feisty girl named Fortunita Dorogov, while seeking to escape, made herself rather odious to the Primordial ruler in this tale by utilizing some of the human primitive incendiaries to damage some portion of the ruler’s Ark, a feat exacerbated by the highly volatile fuels which ran the Ark. Thus, the ruler placed the Chosen seal on Fortunita, and prepared to kill some of the other prisoners in the presence of the seal to make her a Chosen. And now, the ruler here made a bad mistake in a flight of fancy. Intent on making Fortunita into a really low degree of Chosen out of spite, the ruler began using their mystic powers to attempt to summon the vermin of the ship to be brought and slaughtered while Fortunita’s seal was active, in the hopes of transforming her into a bottom-feeder Chosen. The ruler’s ‘pet’ Divine, seeing a chance in which the ruler’s guard was down, suddenly attacked the ruler, the trust acquired in the ruler’s eyes allowing the Divine to strike before treachery was realized. And as the ruler died, the ruler smote the treacherous Divine in turn, and Fortunita’s seal absorbed the essence of the dying Primordial, and to a lesser extent, that of the Divine, before acclimatizing quickly to her newfound powers and healing the Divine. Now fused with the essence of a dead god, whose death gave control of the seal to no will but her own, Fortunita was reborn as a divine being, while still maintaining her humanity. She freed the Divines and other vassals on the Ark, and allowed them to escape to wherever they wanted to. She also returned the captured humans back to where they had been captured, and destroyed all the Chosen on the Ark. The Ark now lies somewhere between dimensions, the sanctum of the first Godforged, Nita Fortune. If there are other Godforged, she does not know, for Primordials are very private in their dealings, even to others of their own kind. What matters is that she exists, and has inherited the domain of the cycle of creation, preservation and destruction. These aspects have shaped her being, and given her uncanny powers, the powers of a Godforged.
- Godforged mechanisms:
Like many conventional deities, Primordials have spheres of command, called ‘domains’. Depending on their power, a Primordial may have at least one, up to several. Nita possesses a major domain, referred to by some as Fate, which is a cycle of three lesser domains: creation, preservation and destruction. Nita’s aspect of creation is Desire, Knowledge for preservation, and Strife for destruction. As such a number of her abilities, even down to her magic, will reflect these aspects. To a lesser extent, Fortunita has also absorbed the essence of a Divine, a trickster deity with a domain of chance. As such, she is something of a rogue, and tends to be luckier than most, although her luck is not always surefire at work. Also, as she possesses the essence of a Primordial, she also has access to the Primordial’s Ark as a storage space, and can use it as a private sanctum.
Abilities:
- Aspect of Fate- Infinita: As the meaning of the name implies, Ms. Fortune’s possession of a Primordial’s power allows her access to the Primordial’s Ark.
Plot Ability: Nita can teleport to and from the Ark at will. Since this Ark rests in a strange space between dimensions, she can, from the Ark, make portals to anywhere. This requires OOC permission to enter or leave player-owned and event-related spaces. It cannot be used in combat, or to escape combat situations, as passing between dimensions is a slow task. Nita can take people and objects to, and from the Ark, as long as OOC permission is approved for those to whom it may concern.
RP Ability: As the Ark serves as a handy storage space, Nita has a +1 to the amount of Requip spells she can use at a time. [1 Effect] - Aspect of Desire- Inamorata: This aspect makes Nita naturally alluring to the general populace, and people tend to want to perform favors for her, even if they don’t know her, or are hostile (in which case, they can suppress the urge). The downside of this is that more obsessive people may have problematic reactions towards her. This quirk is not controllable by Nita, though the strong-willed (PCs, PC-owned NPCs and Event NPCs) can resist this allure if they so choose.
Plot Ability: Nita is an amazing communicator, and can easily sway the average person into doing what she wants. Best part is, they will be happy doing it. She doesn’t like using this ability so much though, because she feels a bit manipulative when using it.
RP Ability: Nita’s honeyed tongue and natural charisma allows her to get a 100% increase to monetary rewards on all applicable jobs. This ability may be toggled for the boon of finding a piece of equipment of the same rank as the job taken. [1 Effect] - Aspect of Knowledge- Inspirata: Ms. Fortune possesses great stores of information within her head, and is quite adept at collecting, storing, retrieving, and applying knowledge.
Plot Ability: Nita is a very quick learner, and is capable of finishing whole books in the space of minutes. She is also very curious, and delights in learning, and designing, new things.
RP Ability: Ms. Fortune’s knowledge of the arcane allows her to have an extra signature spell for each of her magics, scaling up to S-rank. [2 Effects] - Aspect of Strife- Invicta: Nita excels in, and delights in fighting, and is naturally difficult to overcome, in whatsoever thing she finds herself. She will not give up easily, and certainly not without a fight.
Plot Ability: Nita only needs to handle a weapon to have a working idea of how to use it. If allowed with it for a few minutes, she will handle it like a professional. A little longer, and Nita will use it like she has trained with it all her life.
RP Ability: Nita has a 240% passive buff to spell damage (4x S-rank buff) [4 Effects] - Aspect of Guile- Insolita: Ms. Fortune has a devious mind, and loves to exercise her wily wit, this being a direct result of her absorbing some of the essence of a Divine trickster. A mercy that she is one of the good guys.
Plot Ability: Nita's penchant for resourcefulness is unnatural, and she habitually does the unexpected, in and out of combat.
RP Ability: Nita’s unnatural resourcefulness has enabled her to develop an extra advanced spell slot that ranks up to H+, for one of her magics, as long as it is related to her aspects. [2 Effects]
