    Rhace Tarrin
    The Skyship Not-So-Weatherlight

The first question you need to ask: how do you get onto a big flying airship that could cloak? Simple: you fly there. And to do that, you ask very, very, very nicely to be allowed on board. The joys of modern technology meant that one could communicate and ask questions and potentially apply to be part of a guild without attending it in person. Considering the high-tech nature of the guild in question, this was likely the most prudent method to be doing so when you knew absolutely nobody in the guild.

The second question you need to ask: why them? Was it because they were nature-loving, dedicated to defending the world’s flowers and trees and animals? Well, no. That was a nice thing to do, sure, but the absolute concept of balance was way more attractive. A willingness to do what needed to be done in the pursuit of nobler goals was a certain mindset that Rhace Tarrin approved of, and sought to have in his personal life. Needless to say, Rhace wasn’t exactly a hero of justice. He didn’t care for that label, nor did he want it. Would he fight and kill for the sake of his perfection? Absolutely yes. They kind of frowned upon that here, so tempering the concept of murder, fine. However, killing things that needed killing was still something he could do. Something he wanted to do. He liked what they were doing and the fact that they were mobile suited him just fine.

All this being the case, he’d communicated back and forth for a little while, and requested to join; first, they’d send a shuttle for him, then they’d talk to him and see what was up with him. It was a reasonable request, something that he couldn’t turn away.

The shuttle flight was filled with trepidation; not much was communicated other than bring what you owned and turn up. That, in fact, was little more than a single suitcase. Living the life of a wanderer wasn’t exactly easy, and if they were going to have him, then he’d actually have somewhere both permanent and moving to live. It was the perfect situation, as far as he was concerned. With all seriousness, Rhace hoped that they would have him.

The shuttle touched down on cold, metallic deck plates; the swordsman was only moments after the opening of the shuttle’s hatch. His belongings in one hand, sword in the other - for once, not sitting on his hip, but sheathed and carried in his left hand as a sign of respect - he took his first steps onto the SS Endeavour and hoped that whatever welcoming party that would be here, if any, would at least be kind enough to the new kid.

    That remained to be seen.

Gods, he hated being the new guy.

    LIFE IS A BALANCE
BETWEEN WHAT WE CAN AND CAN'T CONTROL

--- LEARN TO LIVE BETWEEN EFFORT AND SURRENDER ---
It felt strange to wear something other than her robes. All her life Cassiti had dressed in vestments that were easily recognizable by her people, and while those robes had changed occasionally over the years as she grew from a small girl into a young woman, the overall look of the robes had always been very similar. Since leaving Avalon to begin her pilgrimage, however, it had not taken long for people to remark upon how she wore the same outfit day in and day out. No one had been rude about it, of course. Cassiti was quite open about her status as a priestess and even in this age the various cultures of the world seemed to hold similar understandings that religious figures often were required to dress a certain way.

But the truth was, she was not in Avalon right now and probably would not be for some time. Cordelia, who had quickly become a rather constant companion of hers, had been quite consistent in suggesting that Cassiti at least try some other clothes on, just to see. As in all things, Cassiti took some time to think about it before giving an answer, the dutiful woman never quick to make any sort of decision. After giving it some thought for a week or so, she had decided… why shouldn’t she? This was not Avalon, and her status as the Oracle of Aryannrhod meant very little to the people of Earthland. They were respectful of it, to be certain, and often very curious, but it was not something they could recognize by her clothing as the Avalonians did, and frankly there should be more about her than just her clothing that spoke to her connection with the goddess. Plus, her pilgrimage was all about experiencing life and culture apart from what she had known.

So ultimately, she agreed to a shopping trip. Now that she had joined Meliora Vitae -- and been made an ace of the guild almost immediately -- she had finally started making money in the local currency. That had been a bit of a relief, because most people in Ishgar seemed to only want jewel in exchange for goods and services. For a woman that had grown up in a civilization that mostly focused on bartering, it had been uncomfortable trying to make her way through unknown lands by offering foreign and exotic fruits and herbs. She wound up buying a lot more than she’d been expecting to, but she had to admit the experience had been fun, and trying on new clothes had been exciting in her own soft spoken way.

There was a new recruit coming today, and as the two aces of the guild Dagda had asked both Cassiti and Cordelia to greet the newcomer and help them get settled. Once she was dressed, Cassiti came down from her treehouse in the Arborium and met up with Cordelia by her tent before making their way to the landing platform. When the shuttle arrived, a rather tall man stepped off. He was dressed in a rather regal set of robes that honestly reminded her of her own priestess vestments, even down to sharing the colors of white, black, and gold. He carried himself and his belongings with a quiet but confident countenance. His aura was… well, captivating. She could see a hardness to him, but not one without compassion, nor was it murky with bitterness or hatred. She felt patience and determination, kindness tempered by a sense of dutifulness, and overall there was just an overwhelming feeling of… balance. And for a woman who was the oracle of a goddess of balance, it was refreshing. He was also quite handsome, though such an observation was more academic on her part than anything else.

As Cassiti and Cordelia approached, he would see a young woman that looked as though she had barely passed into the realm of adulthood with rich dark skin and thick black curls that formed a luxurious afro around her head. She had ghostly green eyes that felt as though they could pierce the soul, and her petite frame stood half a foot shorter than him. She wore a dark brown haltered crop top that had no sleeves, her arms covered only by a leather band around one of her biceps and a few simple, golden bangles around her wrists. A similarly colored sarong with white floral markings was tied around her hips like a skirt, with a large slit that went all the way up one leg. She had an adornment of cheap but pretty jewelry upon her, including a golden band around the skirt, a layered bead necklace, and a pair of earrings. On the side of her stomach just above her right hip was a marking of the twin koi symbol of the guild in a pale yellow color.

She stopped before him and crossed her arms lightly over her chest before giving him a slight, respectful bow. “Welcoom to Meliohrah Veetay,” the ace told him, her soft words carefully enunciated through a thick, rich accent. “I ahm Cassiti Calixte, Ace of de Resarche and Rehabilitation centar for de geeld.” From there, she would wait for Cordelia to make her own introduction before straightening out from her bow and letting the more social woman take over the pleasantries from there. Cordelia was a lot better at these things, if only because she understood the cultural norms of Ishgar a lot better than Cassiti did. Well that, and Cordelia was much more extroverted than Cassi was...

Once you find your light, I'm sure it will lead you back here.

    “Bowzer!”

Cordelia called out to her friend as she emerged from her tent, her smile as bright as the sun in the sky above. She took a moment to smooth out her dress with her hands as the ground rumbled ever so slightly. It was different from the normal shaking that occurred when the ship was turning or completing maintenance. No, this was the familiar rumble from a near six hundred pound brown bear making his way towards her. He burst through the brush just beyond the site of her camp, heading straight towards her. The ace of Meliora Vitae giggled as the bear slowed himself to a stroll before he lowered his head and nuzzled against her stomach. She reached down and ran her hands through his fur, giving him aggressive scratches all around his neck. “Ready to go meet the new guy?” she asked him and the bear gave an affirmative groan.

It was only a few moments later that Cassiti showed up, Cordelia greeting her in the usual bubbly, ecstatic kind of way. The other ace of Meliora Vitae had swiftly proven to be a reliable friend and ally and Cordelia felt safe to say that Cassi was her very best friend in the guild and beyond. Cassiti was still learning the ins and outs of the world, as she came from another realm called Avalon and her timid nature was a stark contrast to Cordelia's. But they got along and Cassi was always willing to, at least, consider some suggestions from her fellow ace. Cordelia practically squealed in delight at the outfit that Cassi was wearing, raining compliments down on the other woman. As much as she adored the robes that Cassi wore day-in and day-out, she felt the woman needed some variety in her life -- a chance to spread her wings and see what the native clothing did for her. Cassi considered it for a couple of days and then finally agreed, allowing Cordelia to take her shopping. It had been a marvelous day out, the two women bonding even deeper than before.

And now, as the only two aces of Meliora Vitae, they were responsible for meeting up with prospective members and today was one such day. They made their way down to the landing platform, Cordelia happily riding Bowzer and chatting away with Cassiti about literally anything her mind flit to. They didn’t have to wait long until the shuttle soared in, perching itself upon the metal platform. The landing ramp lowered and from the interior emerged a man on the taller side. His face was stern and focused, his eyes rich emeralds that seemed set beyond the perspective of the world around him. His steps were serious and he seemed rather rigid; like a man who’d been born and bred in military life. Unlike her friend, she wasn’t capable of reading the man’s aura but what she could tell was that there was very little magical essence about him. In fact, it was safer to say that any magic lingering around his form was most likely just the residual ethernano in the air. How exciting!

And just like Cassiti, Cordelia equally observed his sharp, attractive features. He looked a bit like what Cordelia imagined a ‘bad boy’ was, though she only had her own experience with bad boys in Ca-Elum to go by. Smiling bright, she hopped off Bowzer and walked beside Cassiti as they approached the descending man. Cordelia was a woman with a large, positive presence, her delightful attitude a beacon even among the darker places in the world. Long, bodied hair adorned her head, cascading down her back in a tightly wound, but still relatively wild, ponytail, a bow wrapped around the very end. Her hair peaked over her brow into curled bangs that framed her face. Bright green eyes, not unlike Rhace’s, seemed to glow and twinkle in the overhead light. She had a thin necklace, fashioned out of string, with a seashell attached to the center. Her dress was loose but still showed her lithe figure, the flower pattern of the material looking fresh and new. The skirt of the dress was short enough that he would be able to see her feet were completely bare, lacking any kind of shoe, and dirty from walking everywhere.

Cassiti spoke first, bowing to the man and welcoming him to the guild and introducing herself and her role within the guild. “Hi there!” Cordelia spoke up with her thick Ca-Elum accent, giving him an enthusiastic wave and smile before stepping forward to present her hand for him to shake. Her guild tattoo could be seen on the top of her hand, a deep forest green symbol that twinkled as she shifted.“I’m Cordelia Beaumont, the ace of the Relocation and Dispatch branch! Welcome to the Endeavor! We’re very excited to have you! Oh and this is Bowzer, my bear friend. Don’t let his size worry you -- he’s a big softie. Aren’t you Bowzer?” She turned to the bear, scratching him under the chin.

“So!” she announced, turning back to Rhace. “Would you like a tour of the ship? Cassi and I would be delighted to show you around. There’s a lot of places to set yourself up; the ship has real rooms or you can be like Cassi and I and live on the surface. She lives in a lovely tree house and I have myself a cozy little tent.” If it wasn’t abundantly clear, Cordelia loved to talk with people and learn more about them. She was as social a butterfly as any one person could be.

    Rhace Tarrin
    The Skyship Not-So-Weatherlight

Well, this was definitely a change, and more of a welcoming party than Rhace was originally anticipating; he sort of figured he'd get one person who probably had better things to do, not two, and-- holy shit that's a giant goddamn bear. Needless to say, that was a big shocker of an event that nobody was expecting. I mean, okay, on some level you sort of have to expect weird animal-related shenanigans on what was effectively an animal conservation boat. Surely you had to, right? This, however, was some next-level stuff. A giant bear that fits in the hallways and is beholden to someone was definitely an experience to have.

Right. Focus up, Tarrin. Don't be rude to the people who are here to do you a favour. Besides, you know it's a bit of a shocker when you're presented with two extremely attractive ladies and all you can look at is a bear.

One, dark skinned, green-eyed, with an accent to her lilting voice that Rhace just could not place at all. It was certainly interesting, something new, and something that Rhace absolutely was not going to ask about yet because that would have been incredibly rude. The other, almost a mirror of her, brown hair, fair skin - green eyes too, though, had to be popular - but such overflowing outgoing energy that it seemed to radiate kindness. They seemed like a lovely pair, and good friends to boot, probably. By contrast, there he was - well-dressed, well-kept, and a perfectly clipped accent that someone somewhere would inevitably call Imperial for some reason, and almost a stone-cold juxtaposition to the warmth that radiated from these two. Collectively, they made a good team, that much was for certain. It didn't take good instinct to see that; two guild aces, moving in almost perfect sync with one another, and even the way they filled in gaps in each other's presences seemed to be a well-honed contrast to his own, rather solitary, existence. Honestly, his immediate instinct was that these two were absolutely not to be messed with. Under the surface, they were likely well-honed fighters. Again, didn't take a genius.

"Rhace Tarrin. The pleasure is mine, ladies, and thank you for having me," he responded in kind, taking Cordelia's extended hand to shake it kindly. Bowing wasn't exactly his cup of tea, but he respected it nonetheless.

"I may just take you up on the tour of the vessel, in fact. If it isn't any particular trouble I would ask permission to live aboard the ship. It would make a lot of things simpler."

Yes, you little edgelord. Living the 'wandering swordsman' persona that you have in fact thrust upon yourself by choice would be very, very easy aboard a ship that is wandering by nature. Besides, it gave access to a lot of extremely useful resources that would be likely much easier to peruse when aboard a skyfaring vessel.

However, despite all that, his eyes just kept going back to the damn bear. It boggled the mind how this was even happening in the first place.

    LIFE IS A BALANCE
BETWEEN WHAT WE CAN AND CAN'T CONTROL

--- LEARN TO LIVE BETWEEN EFFORT AND SURRENDER ---
At this point, Cassiti and Cordelia were so used to Bowser’s presence -- and that of the many other strange creatures on board the Endeavor -- that it was often easy to forget just how strange a sight the beast actually was. Usually it wasn’t until they were greeting someone who had never met the bear before that Cassiti was even reminded that it wasn’t exactly normal to walk around with a walking giant of fur coated death.

Cordelia took over the introductions, both for herself and her animal companion, assuring the man that Bowser was more of a teddy bear than a real bear. Their recruit introduced himself as Rhace Tarrin, proving himself to be quite polite in word and manner as he shook Cordelia’s hand and exchanged pleasantries with them both. Cordelia offered to give him a tour of the vessel, requesting permission to take up housing upon the ship as such an arrangement would make things simpler for him.

Cassiti nodded. “Dere eez quite a bit of room on de ship, so et would be no trouble to stay here. Mohst of our membahrs leeve on board. Come, we weel show you ahround.” Giving Bowser a small smile and a soft pat as she turned, Cassiti would walk evenly with Cordelia and their new charge as they made their way toward the interior of the ship. The pair of aces had done this tour a number of times by now, more than enough for Cassiti to have picked up that Cordelia liked to save the tour of the Arborium for last. As such, the Avalonian had already built up the muscle memory that allowed her body to move in that direction without thought, the trio moving into the main foyer of the first floor of the ship, pursued by bear.

The first level of the ship consisted of a large lounge area where a number of members were milling about, relaxing and enjoying their free time with one another. There were lots of cushioned chairs, tables for gathering around, refreshment options, and of course a great deal of plant life. “Dees eez our lounge,” Cassiti would inform him, pausing to give him a moment to take in the sight and look around. “Dere eez a cafeteeriuh up deh stahrs. Also some rhooms where we heve meetings. De plants ahr used to fu-el de ship, which runs off de cahrboon dee-oxide dat dey release.” It was an ingenious system, really, and every time Cassiti thought about it she was in awe of Dagda’s construction of the ship.

Once you find your light, I'm sure it will lead you back here.

“It’s actually much easier to live on board then off! Easier to get to meetings, interacting with guildmates and friends and some of the best food you’ll ever have on all of Earthland!” Cordelia added to Cassiti’s comment about the living situation, beaming bright and doing a merry little movement on her feet. She turned with her fellow ace, Bowzer giving a satisfied grunt as Cassi gave him a pet. He lumbered his way around to follow after them, trotting right behind the trio with a happy, excitable gait. This song and dance was one that Cordelia and Cassiti knew well and had performed together numerous times at this point. They knew the path to take and the places to show first, working up to the Arborium, which was easily Cordelia’s favorite. Frankly the entire ship was delightful and she never got sick of walking the same old path to see it time and time again.

They took Rhace to the lounge area first, which was full of activity. The social butterfly flitted back and forth as they went, greeting the members of the guild with smiles and short conversation. She also made sure to point out Rhace as a new member of the guild, inviting them to give him a wave and let him feel welcomed, good and proper. Cassi explained the details of the room, including the fact that the plantlife was the sole provider of energy and fuel for the ship, to which Cordelia nodded fervently. “We’ll come back here so you can try some of the food. Anything you can possibly want will be here, I promise you.”

After another moment or two, they continued on, finding the stairwell that led down to the second level. A sheer contrast to the first, upper floor, the second was a series of hallways and doors, with panels on the side of each passageway with names. “These are the dormitories. They’re wonderful spaces, providing pretty much everything you would need! The only thing is that the restrooms do not have their own showers, so you’ll have to use the communal showers if you want to stay here. Hope you’re not too shy!” She said, flashing a grin at the new arrival. “There are still a few rooms with windows too so if that’s something you might like, make sure to mention it! Waking up with a view of the world below is quite spectacular!”

After guiding him through some of the hallways, they headed down to the next level. Being the ace of the R&R department, it fell to Cassiti to explain about the intricacies of the third floor, while Cordelia walked beside them and listened just as intently as she imagined Rhace was.

    Rhace Tarrin
    The Skyship Not-So-Weatherlight

Indeed, as his two guides gave him the grand tour of the mighty skyfaring vessel, Rhace could not help but find himself enraptured by the way that this thing was constructed. Indeed, it was a marvel of engineering in more than one way - not only was this thing somehow environmentally friendly, but the waste that this ship produced could then be moved on to assist with powering the ship's propulsion devices. The same was, theoretically, therefore true for the shuttle that he had arrived upon, which indicated to him that this was something more than just simple engineering. First, the Arboreum. Then the crew quarters. Both were equally magnificent in the eyes of the swordsman. Everything here was built with glorious purpose, for those who could not simply do without the advanced comforts of life. Especially so was the fact that their entire greenhouse and its attendant services single-handedly provided clean oxygen, fuel and power to the entire vessel - this was the feat that drew his awe sufficiently. There were times that it was actually incredibly easy to forget just how highly technologically advanced the world was; for those who could not produce the difference, magic at certain high levels and technology were indistingushable. Those who wielded blades made of pure energy, whether they were forged from the most esoteric and arcane lacrimae, or the insidious hand of man, it did not matter. There were plenty of people in this world that walked the path of either. Or both. Rhace cared not for which path those around him took.

Yet, here he was, wondering just how much he could take the advanced technology of the guild and turn it to advance his own personal lot in life. Perhaps that was a simple guilty pleasure.

For the entire tour, however, what struck him was the sheer friendliness of those he passed. He had expected something of the like, of course. This guild was noted for such things, where those who sought to better the environment could flock - that necessitated a certain kind of personality trait. However, to see it in action was another thing entirely. This showed him that, yes, these people were in fact here to be absolutely kind to not just him, but to the world around them. For their independence, it was certainly heartening.

"If the biggest drawback to living aboard the ship is communal bathing, I think I'll be fine," he commented dryly. He had experienced that before. "I have to say that this ship and its decore is... amazing. I've never seen its like before. I doubt I ever will again. You have something rather incredible here."

Which he meant. Whole-heartedly. They really did have an amazing ship and to be aboard it was a mind-blowing thing. Now that he was here, he couldn't really believe his eyes, considering they'd agreed to take him in. What was the least he could do for them in return? Pledging his sword was, of course, a given. Surely he could do better.

"So, I did have one question- the information packet included mention of two divisions. Truth told, I wouldn't know where best to place someone who is so, ah... dedicated to fighting. I admit it's a lot of what I do." A side-note? Yes, definitely, however, it was a decision he had been unable to make on his own. Surely two experts could weigh in on the situation for him.

    LIFE IS A BALANCE
BETWEEN WHAT WE CAN AND CAN'T CONTROL

--- LEARN TO LIVE BETWEEN EFFORT AND SURRENDER ---
Cassiti strode beside the pair in relative silence, almost the exact opposite of Cordelia’s own mannerisms. While Cord was somewhat boisterous and eager in her attempts to be friendly and inclusive, Cassiti was much more reserved. That wasn’t to say she was cold, of course. Cassi was very friendly in her own way, but there was no denying that she was much more socially awkward than her counterpart. It wasn’t in her nature to have a lot to say, and what words she did impart often only came after a reasonable amount of time spent toward consideration and thought.

She nodded in acknowledgement as Rhace commented his thoughts about communal showering, which didn’t really seem to put him off too much. He went on to compliment the design of the ship itself and how unique and exemplary it was. “Yes, Mahster Dagda and a former membahr of de geeld, Percy, put a lot of wark into de ship to maek et not just sustainahble but comfortahble and eeffishunt. Where I coom from, nothing like dis exists at ahl. Et was very much… how do you say… coolture shock? But vary eempresive.”

As they descended to the next level, Rhace asked about some of the information in the brochure that touched on the two divisions. He admitted that he wasn’t quite sure where he would fit in, given his disposition with fighting. “Most of our membahrs weeth fighting skeels ahr in Cordeeleah’s unit, Reelocation and Deespatch. We try naht to keel or harm people or any pahrt of nature if posseeble, but sometimes dere eez no choice. Nature eetself eez often violent, and soomtimes to haev peace dere must be fighting. Et eez ahl aboot balance. De Reelocation and Deespatch brahnch often reequires wahrriors for protection and enforcement.”

The trio stepped out onto the third floor, where Rhace would find that plant life had been seamlessly integrated into the surrounding hallways, giving the space a fresh and comforting feel despite the metal walls. There were rooms upon rooms with various sized laboratories and data analysis centers, as well as a large medical wing. This was where Cassi spent most of her time on the ship, and it showed in the way that she was a bit more social with the people moving in and out of the areas around them. Or rather, the people on this floor were much more open about greeting her with waves and familiar smiles that Cassiti returned in her own muted fashion.

“Dis eez de Reehab and Resarche floor. We do our best to heal and undahrstahnd de world around us. Many times, de membahrs of Cordeeleah’s group bring us injard animals or endanjard plants, and we presarve dem as best we can with de hope of retarning dem to dere natural habitats. Dere ahr other things we handle as well, but dat eez our main goal.” As if to emphasize her point, Cassiti stopped gently in her tracks as they passed a row of plants along one of the walls, where a species of fern was looking a bit brown and wilted. With a frown, she raised a hand to the plant with her palm outstretched toward it. A deep emerald mist began to glow around the limb before spreading to the pant itself, and before their eyes the fern would brighten and stiffen as though it had been little more than a recording being played in reverse until it was back to vibrant life. Once that was done, the green mist faded and she softly flagged over one of the other members that was working in the labs that day to give them instructions to water and tend to the fern before it could begin to wilt again.

Once you find your light, I'm sure it will lead you back here.

“Oh good! I don’t often use the communal bathing down here; there’s a small lake near by campsite that I use, if only because it’s closer! That and I get to hang out with Bowzer!” Cordelia commented, giving Rhace an earnest grin while she reached back and patted her bear friend’s rump a few times. The newbie went on about how impressed he was with the ship, stating that he’d never seen anything like it and Cassiti was more than happy to enlighten him briefly on the history of the ship and it’s creation. True, Cordelia hadn’t really gotten a chance to interact with Percy much but he’d made quite the impact in the short time he’d been part of the guild.

With that, they set off to the next level. Rhace spoke up once more, mentioning the brochure that he’d been gifted and asking about the two divisions within the guild. He was unsure where he would best fit, claiming that he was quite the adept fighter. Cassi explained that most of the fighters in the guild wound up in the Relocation and Dispatch division, the group that Cordelia was in charge of. She gave a proud grin and thumbs up as her friend gave a brief summary of what came with the territory. “That’s right! Most people are a bit surprised when they find out I head up the division but I’m always more than happy to show them just how talented I am as a fighter as well!” she stated generally, unmoved by the surprise of others but certainly confident in her abilities.

As they came to the next level, the plant life spread out among the metal chassis in the hallway. It felt as fresh and as bright as being on top of the ship and Cordelia inhaled deeply before letting it out in a satisfied sigh, stretching her arms out as they went along. Here is where Cassi really shown; though a much more reserved woman, it was clear she felt much more at home on the level that she spent most of her time. Her people were open with waves and smiles, greeting their leader in a much more reserved manner than perhaps the people under Cordelia would. But it still made her heart shine to see Cassiti come out of her shell, if only a little bit.

Cassiti gave a bit of an explanation to what correlated with joining the Rehab and Research division. It was far more about studying and caring for the world around them, working with Cordelia’s division to acquire endangered plants and animals and studying them while also ensuring their continued survival. Cordelia even gave a small showcase of her power, helping one of the wilted plants near them return to its former glory. Cordelia gave a small squeal. “I always love watching her do this,” she admitted to Rhace.

With that explanation out of the way, there was only one final level left. Leading the group down the stairs, Cordelia flippantly sat on the railing and slid down it, giggling the entire way down before landing on her feet. Once there, she turned dramatically and placed her hands on her hips to look back up at them. “This is the fourth floor, the containment area! This is where members of the Relocation and Dispatch division take the animals we have rescued and contain them. Each paddock is treated well, with plenty of food and bedding and natural habitat so they don’t feel trapped or locked in too much. As Cassi said, the whole goal is to get them back out into the wild so we make sure they are seen as soon as possible. It comes with a lot of danger; a lot of the creatures we track down aren’t always so willing to go without a fight. So we have to be prepared to bring them down without causing too much damage. But there are some that prove too dangerous to leave unguarded so they wind up here for a substantial amount of time. We have plenty of observation equipment so we’ll know if any critter gets too uppity and tries to escape.”

Cordelia grinned. “So Rhace Tarrin, now that you’ve seen all we’ve got, hopefully that gives you a better idea of where you’d fit in! Just know that Cassi and I run a tight ship and will work you to the bone!” She gave her fellow Ace a flirty wink and grin before turning her gaze back to Rhace.

    Rhace Tarrin
    The Skyship Not-So-Weatherlight

Cassiti's passing explanation of the ship and its additional workings was not left unwelcome; he could tell that this was some next-level stuff, especially compared to what he was used to, which was traditionally reserved for candle-lit hallways, some lamps, grand and sweeping onyx halls and ancient castles that time had begun to weave its eternal magic upon. By contrast, this was just like stepping into an entirely different universe. The third floor was one such universe, where the Rehabilitation and Research division worked their wonderful talents. This place was a perfect blend of flora and technology, where it could have been absolutely argued that there was little difference where the ship ended and the floral beds around them began. It hummed with a different kind of energy than the rest of the ship, and the fact that Cassiti chose here to blossom was an irony not immediately lost on Rhace. This was clearly her home aboard the ship and it showed, which was heartwarming enough to know. Sure, she was showing a stranger around her large airborne mechanical home - but if she could be comfortable here if nowhere else, then that was a good piece of information to file away for later on. And, so too was her power not lost on him either - that was a talent he'd never, ever be able to display. Admiration, and not jealousy, was the leading response in his mind. He wasn't magical but he appreciated the abilities of those who could weave the arcane arts into their repertoire.

Then, the fourth floor, and the surprising left turn of an explanation that left him both mildly surprised and smiling in equal measure. The Relocation and Dispatch branch was most certainly where a fighter of his calibre would end up, for it was in the fires of battle that his sword was best wielded. Here, where a number of critters were in the process of being rehabilitated for their return to the wild, he could tell that there was a passion and a brilliance to Cordelia in the way she spoke about her charge with an intent and a dedication that made that particular diamond shine brighter. Both of them were so invariably dedicated to their causes that he could respect.

There was a momentary appraising look up and down of Cordelia - not in a flirty or sexual way, but a glance that a seasoned fighter gave, analysing the way someone appeared, what they hid in the way they stood and walked and carried themselves. Even a simple gait spoke a lot to the way someone was dedicated and the way they fought - or, in the case of those absolutely truly gifted, what the way they carried themselves hid. Rhace had seen and experienced both in his lifetime; being the heir to an Elumish fighting style that dated back to ancient courts of kings and queens meant that there was plenty of exposure to warriors the world over. Not that he counted himself their equal by any means, of course, but he'd seen plenty in the meantime. She hid it, that was for sure. Whatever she did - and however she did it - she hid rather well. Which, when surrounded by a ship of mages, wasn't exactly the best way to get started. He'd have to deal with that at some point. Then, just maybe, there was a second glance just in case he'd missed something on an initial appraisal... which was a wonderfully thinly veiled excuse.

However, he had been prompted, and there was a smirk in response to that particular question on Cordelia's part. He couldn't help it - it was who he was. Snark was a weapon employed as sharply as the keenest blade. "I, for one, welcome the challenge," Rhace said with some finality. "Thank you for having me. I rather appreciate the fact that I lack the magical talents of some of your cohort, and you can rest assured I'll pull my weight no matter what."

And that was that, really. There wasn't much more to be said on his part other than getting quarters assigned, getting settled in, and getting straight to work under the both of them. If they ran a tight ship, he'd rise to that occasion.
