”They’re all ready to give their lives for their country…” he mentioned before glaring around the field of cold rock and ice, noticing the still alive but defeated and immobilized soldiers of Pergrande – while most had perished to his and Mythica’s magical counter-attacks, some were lucky enough to have faced only a cut from his spirit sword and survived,
“Anti-magic… Oblivium… wonder if I can get my hands on that. I know a certain guy from my guild who would benefit greatly from anti-magical properties.” The Guildmaster was certainly thinking of the currently only non-mage in his guild, the fierce fisticuff brawler who speaks in kindergarten named Mo. Mo had been exceptionally intent on improving his physical prowess only for reasons unknown to the shaman, but it was such an interesting goal to set for oneself in this ever-expanding world of magic, and Mura wanted to witness him climb the highest ranks one day. Imagine a Wizard Saint without a single drop of mana in him… how insane would that be? It brought a smile on his face, eager to see the future of his guildmate.
Regardless, the future always required effort to reach, and it wasn’t always in one’s favor. Oh, how Mura knew that on a personal level.
Mythica was still battle-ready, given by her expression and statement. She looked deadest on fighting on to avenge her husband for getting injured by their bullets. Mura, not wanting to get hurt again and embarrass himself, held up Harusame and FNMNT before dashing off along with Mythica as she spotted two other soldiers. They wore Pergrandian uniforms… but it turned out that Mura had little room to fight them. His wife, however, was on fire and spilled blood on the white snow from the two poor soldiers who engaged upon her all by themselves. She was incredibly quick with her gun-blades, and her fighting style was brutal and unforgiving. In the blink of an eye, two soldiers lied dead on the freezing floor. Were they the last from the previous platoo-
THUD!Mura’s eyes widened in shock before beckoning him to leap away, watching as Mythica narrowly dodged a deadly blow from another soldier. This one was different… the male in the steel-clad armor was wielding a sword. Unlike the rifles from earlier, this one was specializing in close-combat battle, much to the shaman’s displeasure as he had efficiently taken advantage of his swordsmanship. This one could be just as skilled, and he showed that in his advance towards the shocked Mythica who was kicked away into the lower woods on the mountain before Mura could react.
“Mythica!!!”He had little time to worry about her, sadly. Three shadows emerged ahead of him, holding their blades up in the air and swinging them down at him with inhuman speed. Thank goodness for Mura’s nimble movements; the blades weren’t letting his auric shield stop them as that sphere around him completely disappeared. He was exposed, to say…
Damn it. Damn it all, these guys were trouble! If he wanted to come out of this alive along with Mythica, who was struggling to defeat one of the swordsmen herself, then their level of magical output was simply insufficient. Those blades were likely composed of Oblivium as well, weakening any magic that they touched… whatever appeared powerful earlier would be lowered to puny levels of strength against these enemies. At the moment, he could do nothing but evade their attacks – while that was less taxing, what happened to his offense? He couldn’t dodge them forever… and Mythica must’ve come to the same realization.
He didn’t like being separated from her like this. They could… they could die.
…
Okay… okay, okay! Do it now, Mura… just like you’ve trained. With a flick of his hand, he rose a thick snow wall between him and the three swordsmen before backing off a hundred meters. Now, he was having his back facing the edge of the cliff, further below showing the woods where Mythica was fending for her life.
Vandrad… he won’t allow you to give your life away that quickly. Even if it’s for his country… okay, channel your magic.Mura’s magic began to gather inside of him, while the Azure Dragon had caught up to the swordsmen and tried to drown them in its Ebby Vortex. Sadly, unlike the guards from earlier, its drowning attack did so little to the swordsmen as they cut out of the vortex of water with a few swings, forcing the dragon to flee as it met its matches. The guards would them approach the snow wall, intent on carrying on their duties for their home country.
Burn, damn it… all of it. Don’t you dare hold anything back now. Your life and Mythica’s are on the line…It had been so long since Mura gave it his all. His wide range of spells, his arsenal of magic and elemental prowesses, and his experience in the field as a guild mage had made him feel unconsciously above most of his enemies in how he rarely took day-by-day bandits and the weekly cursed beast as seriously as they deserved to be. However, when he got serious… then he burned a bright-white flame, composed of his shamanism, his Onmyoudou, his bloody Hades and something far deeper… something far, far deeper and powerful.
I could’ve sworn that I’ve felt this flame before I trained with Vandrad… maybe it was when I fought Johann back at the festival. The flame engulfed him completely, melting away the snow around him in several meters’ radius. It began to kick up, emitting its blaze and fragrance all the way to Mythica herself. Mura’s magical signature was going straight off the roof, a level unlike anything he had ever showcased to her earlier. If she needed definitive proof of his status as a Wizard Saint, then this was the reason. This spell brought him closer and closer to the level of strength that the four Gods of Ishgar possessed.
I-Imouto… Gamon… Julius… and you too, Hana-chan… I’m still carrying on. Living. Breathing. Burning brighter than ever. I’m carrying your flame yet… so please, watch me. Closely…Whether his old teammates were up in the heavens or lost in the nexus of time and space, he begged for them to watch him… he begged his past to watch over him.
This is how far I’ve come! His flame suddenly burst forth, sending a shockwave of heat everywhere that caught the three swordsmen by surprise. From the flames, a fire-coated Mura leapt straight up in the air and spun downwards towards the three enemies, meeting the clashing blade with one of them. He quickly noticed how their blades and armor raptured away his magic, in which he rose up a pair of ice walls in a brief instant to separate two from the third.
And to the third swordsman, Mura rose his katana high. The Vigorous Sword Control was cast once more, this time embodying a golden sword that cut the swordsman apart in 3 slashes that sent waves strong enough to shred the branches off of whatever tree was nearest Mythica.
The ice walls were broken down as well, not capable of handling such force from his swings. Mura’s eyes were red orbs hiding inside the fires, charging forth and unleashing 3 more slashes with his concentrated Vigorous Sword Control, utterly overpowering the second swordsman’s swordsmanship as well as physical prowess. It was such a rush to unleash all of his magic power in form of this burning fire… but he had to watch out. Even like this, he leapt back from the third and last swordsman in front of him who attempted to cancel as much magic from him as possible, finding Mura floating above Mythica’s battleground in the white, overflowing Flame of the Phoenix…
“Two of your allies went down in a flash!” he roared at the third Imperial Guard who leapt towards him in hot pursuit,
