The thunderous bombast of the creatures that wandered the shadows of the forest upon Amber Island was something that Mr. Toadstool found himself paying almost too much attention to- mayhaps the talk of the magical power that was said to sit in the mountains of this island was true, reverberating with each cry of a magnificent beast laying low in the depths of the rocks. Or perhaps it was just what came with being so far away from civilization. The duo of demon hearts found themselves finally approaching the destination of their long journey; a throne hall reigning down upon the Azure Sea, which was said to be home to a group of mages that may potentially align themselves with the same ideals that she held dear to her soul. Despite the chill that coursed through the veins of the summoner due to her irregularity, a strange feeling would be brought to her when hearing of the feats of Dies Irae in the dark alleyways of Ishgar. Similar to a child looking up to those destined for greatness- the princess of the demon agaric castle held newfound respect for the murmurs and thought that seeking out those that also wished to eliminate darkness would lead her in the right direction. ♡

♡ However, with curiosity comes caution, and this was especially true for the two of the demon agaric; while seemingly unconventional, the pink-haired elf wished to attempt a more eccentric route of finding out the true motives of the mage guild. She was aware of the corruption and grief that had taken over the universe in the form of mistrust and betrayal; in order to attain success, trust must be given sparingly, or so the princess thought. Sulking in and out through the shadows in an ancient, flowing dress and cape, Aerith and her companion would near closer and closer to the outskirts of the guild hall's entrance, which appeared to harness characteristics similar to the castle that she called her home- the older architectural styles were magnificent, and towered over the horizon to create magnificent shadows. Finding herself inside of one of the many shadows of the night, the girl of crimson optics would lean down to meet her eyes with those of her exceed's, getting closer to avoid recognition by anyone that would notice their existence. ♡

"Mush mush," Aerith would look toward the crescent moon that sat within the clear night sky while holding a whisper, "are you ready?"

♡ In the form of a quiet squeak, the black exceed would slip away from his master and into the darkest spots that lined the walls approaching the entrance of the throne hall- it was go-time, and Mr. Toadstool's mischievous soul was finally finished gaining the courage needed for confidence in his quest. Grinning as he would slip into the throne room through the bright entrance, he would stick to the sides of the rooms in an attempt to not be spotted by the residuals of this palace. Upon finding the job bulletin, his eyes would light up; manifesting what appeared to be a magical replication of a pulsating, dark sword, the exceed would attempt to prick one of the stuck papers off of the board and store it inside of one of the pockets in his mushroom cap, hoping to have not been noticed by anyone that may have also found themselves near the decadent thrones. During this, Aerith would find herself sparking up a cigarette and sitting on one of the edges of a wall near the doors of the palace, waiting for her companion to return with the objective. ♡

    OOC:

The Throne Room of the Dies Irae guild was dark, mostly because all the windows were shut, and most of the lamps were either out or dimmed. With the expansiveness of the room itself, while light streamed in from the great doors which often stood open, much of the edges of the hall were wreathed in shadow. At several points in the building, the pillars which supported the great ceiling seemed to rise from the cool stone floor into the shadows above, with the gloom in these corners making it difficult to see the parts of the ceiling which stood above the darkened regions. The darkness gave the interior of the hall a deep and somber atmosphere, and anyone who was not particularly used to gloom or dark places would probably find themselves unsettled by, if not downright frightened of, the place with its dark and foreboding magnificence.

It was in this darkness that the Scholar of Fenghai sat and brooded, her eyes staring at some indeterminable point in the darkness. While her eyes were open, she did not require much light at present, for it would only serve to distract her with extra sensory information. She wanted to think, for it was her nature to be introspective, to think about past events and what lessons they bore, if not how they could have been bettered were she, or someone else wiser, and how unfortunate events would be prevented from repeating themselves. She also liked to think about the present, where she was and why, her present alliances and enmities, and what could be done to make her present day more acceptable for her. But perhaps the point of time that occupied Suzhen's thoughts the most was the future. What could be, and what could be done to make it, or prevent it. The past could not be changed, but the future was a world of possibilities, and while the average human didn't care too much about projecting into the future with painstaking conscientiousness, Suzhen felt she could not do without it. There was something about preparing one's self mentally for the future, and even though often times things happened outside the scope of plans, the Dongxian felt more comfortable with the thought that she was at least trying to plan for the future. Yes, it was weird to be skulking alone in the shadows, but in Suzhen's opinion, the best place to think was somewhere no one was looking for you. Hence the Throne Hall.

Something caught her attention; she sensed it more than saw it, for her eyes were not on the door of the Throne Room. It seemed to keep to the shadows, making its way to a certain point. Immediately, Suzhen decided to assume that whatever this creature was, it needed to be observed, for there were very few reasons why someone would want to sneak into the room, and most of them indicated that the surreptitious one was an outsider. She followed the creature more with her magic sense than her eyes, and discovered that it was heading for the mission notice board. Why? Out of curiosity, she waited until the creature swiped a paper from the board. This was odd. Why come to this place to steal a mission notice, unless the notice had some important connotations? Silently, Suzhen rose, and deciding to do something a bit more on the dramatic side, moved as swiftly as she could, while keeping her movement sound minimal. With her high speed, she would seem to have just materialized, with a short breeze, in front of the cat and the notice board. There was someone outside, but Suzhen decided to let that person to their own devices for the meantime, considering that the one outside and the cat were in cahoots.

"Well hello, Kitty," she said gently, with a smile. "I don't believe we've met before." Best to start off cordial. If the person was a potential ally, no bad blood would be between them. If the person was an enemy, Suzhen was still polite to her foes. Initially.

Slowly exhaling the vapors of the cigarette from her mouth, the princess of the demon agaric castle would stare at the night sky and let out a small yawn, causing her crimson optics to tear up and sparkle in the moonlight; the moon appeared to look just like it did the night that her brother had mysteriously fallen down the royal wishing well, where she was exposed to the darkness and corruption that changed her views on the world forever. It was just as beautiful as it was regretful for Aerith- she was one to despise reflecting on her emotional trauma from her childhood, as allowing emotion to take root on the outside was a sign of weakness, which she felt as though she was unable to afford. But it was also calming to think about how her life had changed forever because of that one moment- dedicating her life to rid the world of evil, the witch blossomed into that of a wandering sellsword across many planets that held magical power, which was her lifelong dream as a child. ♡

♡ Inside of the throne room, Mr. Toadstool turgled as he nabbed the mission details from the job description board, which appeared to be concerning that of hostile target capture; this would be a perfect fit for the master plan of the exceed and his princess, as it would be able to bring to light the true motives of Dies Irae by showing the "evil" that they had strived to capture. Looking down to clean some flakes of dirt off of his paws, as he was an easily distracted soul, the exceed would shiver as he would soon realize that a shadow was now being cast over his body. With his bright gold eyes, he would look up and jump as he would look into the eyes of what appeared to be a potential member of this guild- it was almost as if they appeared out of nowhere, seemingly addressing the kitty. ♡

"Umm..", Mush Mush would nervously speak as he would tuck his floating sword behind his mushroom hat, "well um. of course we haven't met before! I... have never been here before and it's crazy and I'm very nervous so yeah. oh and um." Quickly developing himself in a bright ultraviolet black light, his body would soon materialize on-top of the bulletin board, where he would begin to quietly meow and look around- spotting the door to the guild hall, he would be able to see Aerith's cigarette smoke drifting off into the night sky. Letting out an extremely high-pitched squeal that would almost reverberate through the dark corridor, signaling to his princess that he had been spotted. ♡

♡ Interrupting the unnecessary nostalgia that the mushroom girl had been pondering upon, she would hear the squeal of her companion and quickly run up the stairs toward the entrance of the corridor; if the hearing of the emerald-eyed mage was on par with that of a typical mage, they would most likely be able to hear the gentle tapping of heeled boots approaching from the outside. Followed by a giant floating red mushroom behind her and a matching mushroom plushie in her arms, the pink-haired elf would slowly walk through the arch of the doors and into the center of the dark hallway, her crystalline jewelry illuminated by the faint lights upon the walls. Spotting her friend with another individual standing in front of him, she would slowly approach from the dark horizon, holding a still look upon her face. ♡

"You, over there," Aerith would exclaim across the corridor while her giant red mushroom would float around her slowly in a circle, "do you happen to be a member of the mage group known as Dies Irae..? The exceed is accompanying me, as well. My apologies for our sudden appearance within the shadows." Nearing closer to the duo, Mr. Toadstool would hop down from the bulletin board and stand by his owner, rubbing against her boots; upon gazing at the pink-haired princess, she would appear to have a cigarette between her lips and would reek of rose petals. It would be apparent that she would not wish to acknowledge the fact that they just got caught stealing. ♡

"But regardless," the mage would speak out to the other individual softly, allowing an array of smoke to drift into the air above her, "I would love to have a small conversation over a smoke outside if you are not currently occupied, but don't feel obligated to do so. If you wish for us to leave this island, we will." ♡

Suzhen kept the pleasant smile on her face, as the cat began to speak, showing, for all intents and purposes, that it was very nervous. The Dongxian scholar wasn't really surprised; if the cat was intelligent enough to have pilfered that paper from the guild's mission board, it would probably be possessed of the powers of rational communication. From the words of the ebony feline, it was a first timer to Amber Island, but that made Suzhen only more curious. If indeed this was the cat's first time here on the island, why would it bother to go taking mission notices off the guild's mission board? She would most certainly have to get to the bottom of that, although she was probably not going to raise the matter immediately. Perhaps a bit of observation would allow her to be able to determine the creature's motives without having to reveal that she knew it was hiding something, no pun intended.

It was curious to watch the cat on the notice board; the Dongxian maiden could not tell whether the cat was trying to cast a spell or anything, so while externally, she appeared relaxed and pleasant, on the inside, she was quite prepared to handle any hostilities as they arose. In any event, whatever the cat was doing, hostility was not on its mind. It seemed rather all the more intent on getting away from the stranger in front of it. As the feline meowed, Suzhen could guess that it was looking at the door, either trying to see how best and quickest to get out, or to get the attention of whoever was outside. With the loud squeal, the indigo-haired girl settled for the latter; the cat was trying to call its partner, most likely the one to whom it belonged. As expected, almost immediately, Suzhen heard the telltale sound of feet on the stone floor; whoever was running was either a good runner, or light in frame, or both, judging by the sound their footfalls made on the stone.

At the sound of the voice behind her, Suzhen turned, with her smile still on her face. The person to whom the voice belonged looked to be a girl, of about the same height as Suzhen, though a lot more slender. With the fact that the lights were coming from behind the newcomer, Suzhen could not say whether she was little more than a child or not, though her voice sounded as though Suzhen was probably older than she was. And then, it would not be wise to take people at face value; there were many creatures in this world, and some of them did not age like normal humans did. The fact that Suzhen could see that the pink-haired girl had pointed ears was even more reason for her not to be so quick to arrive at conclusions as to how old the girl was. She was probably not human, or partially human, for humans did not come naturally with pointed ears, and many humanoid creatures that did, elves more notably, lived a lot more years than the average human. In any case, she did not seem hostile, if a little uninformal, and Suzhen responded pleasantly as well, as she turned to face the girl.

"Hello to you," said the scholar genially. "Oh indeed, I am a member of this illustrious guild, no, I'm not bothered one bit by your sudden appearance, and yes, a conversation outside would be great, although I'm afraid I might have to turn down your offer of the smoke. I've never really gotten round abiding smoke in my lungs. I tend to have coughing fits. Outside, there'll be enough aeration to save me from the smoke, so I have no qualms with that." Interestingly though, the girl smelt not of smoke but of rose petals, and while that seemed an interesting prospect, it didn't pique Suzhen's curiosity enough to desire to fill her lungs with rose-scented smoke. "This way, then, if you please." So saying, Suzhen walked out of the hall and into the night air, locating the same wall that the pink-haired elf girl had been seated on previously. Pretending as though she had no idea that this was where the elf had been previously, Suzhen gracefully seated herself atop the wall, then patted a section of the wall beside her, indicating that the elf girl come and sit there.

Once all seating arrangements were made, Suzhen turned to face her; the Scholar's expression was still pleasant, although there was some aspect of earnestness behind her mien. "So, what would you like to talk to me about? Oh, pardon my horrible manners. I'm Suzhen, Bai Suzhen. Pleased to meet you."

While not appearing to be one interested in the rosy smoke, the indigo-haired individual stood out to be quite hospitable in terms of their acceptance of the pair, directing themself towards the two and leading them back through the entrance of the throne hall. Mr. Toadstool, the mushroom exceed that would accompany Aerith on her journey, would now float on top of the mushroom cap of Lilith and get comfortable for a tiny nap; he mischievously thought that his sleeping would potentially distract the Dies Irae member from his nabbing of the job as well, as it was tucked deep inside the folds of his mushroom hat. The lady of the demon agaric castle would tag along down the dark corridor with the tiny taps of her heels, intently clutching her stuffed mushroom- she was one to sometimes get the tiniest bit anxious when interacting with new people that she had held respect for, as first impressions were definitely more important upon earth-land in comparison to Kyoka, her home planet. This was especially true now. ♡

♡ Drifting down the stairs that cascaded from the entrance of the throne hall, the moonlight would illuminate the area and cause the elvish characteristics of the girl to show in full; in addition to her elf ears, piercings of unholy rose quartz, and red mushroom quirks, her body would appear to be covered in dark tattoos of various mushrooms and demons, which would poke out under her gothic-royal attire. While there was still some room for more tattoos, she seemed to get a new one with each mythical demon that she would reap the soul of, as it would not allow their existence to be forgotten down the well. It would also feel like instant gratification to the summoner, as the magical power she did not know in which she gained from doing as such did not occur as fast as one might think. As the invisible rays of the sky shot down upon them, the princess would sit down where she sat previously, which she still felt was warm- which was really strange, considering it was stone. ♡

"It is my pleasure to make your acquaintance, Bai Suzhen," the pink-haired girl would bow towards her as she would continue to grip her plush, "I am Lady Aerith Agaric, Heir to the Mushroom Throne and the last of the Agaric Demon Hunters, and this is my exceed companion, Mr. Toadstool." Raising her hand to meet it with the forehead of the black cat, her crimson optics would glisten with the faint glow that was in the dark sky- shivering due to a small gust of cold wind from the ocean spray, the girl would pull out what looked to be a red weighted blanket from the mouth of her stuffed animal and drape it over her shoulders. A pocket dimension, this was one of many magical items that the demon progeny had within her collection, which would potentially stand out to the indigo-haired individual. ♡

"I ventured to this island to be able to more closely observe the base of operations of the guild that you belong to, Dies Irae," twiddling a few silky strands of rosy hair in between her fingers as she would speak and smoke, her eyes would drift away in embarrassment, as she did not exactly plan out how this conversation would go or how soon it would occur. "There are many things I have heard about this guild while I have traveled through these parts, and I feel as though I can be a valuable asset in the utmost eradication of evil that all of you seem to seek," the girl of pink would look towards Bai Suzhen with all seriousness, though her verbiage would occasionally wander while speaking, "taking on those that willingly bear their evil, wretched souls has been something that I have willingly sought out for most of my entire life, and I have a very large amount of respect for those that take on similar challenges. I am the last blade dancer of the castle that I call my home, as the rest of my family members have unfortunately perished, so I have since had to seek out other ways to fulfill my destiny. I'm sincerely sorry for dumping all of this on you after we just met, but it is very important to me."

Now that the elf girl was sitting beside her, illuminated by the gentle rays of the moon high above, Suzhen could more easily take note of the elven child's characteristics. What intrigued the Dongxian scholar the most was the girl's tattoos; barring her face, there were very few places on her exposed skin that did not have some cryptic design or the other. While she could not immediately give any reason, Suzhen was sure that those tattoos were not just there for the aesthetics; perhaps they had some cultural, or even magical, purpose. It could be an elven thing, but Suzhen wasn't so sure. While she knew a bit about elves, thanks to her penchant for extensive studying, elven culture was just as varied as human culture, and if there were elven cultures that paid no attention to tattoos, there were probably others which practically built their entire societies on them. The Dongxian made a mental note to ask about them, but that would probably come later.

"Welcome to Amber Island, Lady Agaric," Suzhen said pleasantly, returning Aerith's bow. As far as introductions were concerned, the elven girl was some sort of royalty. Suzhen had neither heard about the Mushroom Throne nor the Agaric Demon Hunters, and there was this thought that informed her that a trip to the local library wouldn't divest the Dongxian scholar of her ignorance about the two topics. With the mention of herself being the last of her profession, Aerith seemed to have an apparently dolorous background. If Aerith was the heir to a throne, it was not very likely that she would be allowed to so freely traipse around the countryside, perhaps unless in the eyes of some guardian subjects. Looking at the sleeping Exceed, Suzhen decided that it was unlikely that the cat was a bodyguard, more instead like a pet. The lack of a hovering guardian for the elven princess simply reinforced Suzhen's image of the pink-haired girl having an apparently sad background.

As far as words went, Aerith had come to the guild to observe it, due to her professed interest in the guild, its working and its ways. The scholar nodded slowly but repeatedly, in an unconscious effort to make the elven girl less nervous; the girl's body language was clear enough. Dies Irae was a popular enough guild, and people were interested in it, both for good and for ill reasons. Aerith seemed, fortunately, to fall into the former category. "Ah, a new recruit," the Dongxian maiden said with a touch of excitement in her voice, as she smiled. Unlike herself, Aerith seemed interested in joining the guild for the major purpose of evil extermination, which quite resonated with the guild's general goal. Aerith clarified the statement she had earlier made about herself being the last of her kin, and Suzhen pursed her lips. She wasn't sure whether to react to this with compassion or indifference, as she had met people before who seemed disgusted by pity. Although Dies Irae was a militaristic guild, its members were human... or at least, most of them. She would take the empathic road. It was after all easier to flow with people who one perceived to care about them.

"I am very sorry to hear about your family," the indigo-haired young woman said, "and don't worry about 'dumping' things on me; if you're interested in being a member of this guild, from what I've heard you say, you'll be expected to depend more on other members of the guild when necessary." That was quite hypocritical, coming from Suzhen, as she preferred to help others with their own burdens, but always felt disinclined to allow anyone help her carry her own. "I do hope you can find a new family here, and, if possible, restore your throne. If not, revenge will just have to be the next best thing." Suzhen's face changed slightly from its sympathetic expression to one with a bit of a more mischievous look. "That being said, does Mr. Toadstool like looking at mission boards? He seemed awfully interested in it back there." There was a friendly, albeit knowing, smile on her face, as she watched the elf and her cat.

In the form of a gentle tug, the summoner of pink roses and red mushrooms would pull the dark weighted blanket upwards to cover more of her torso as the icy breeze of the sea would hit slightly harder against her skin than it did before. A warm welcome, the Dongxian maiden would seem to have been graced by the smallest bit of excitement upon learning that the elf would come to the throne of Dies Irae in order to become their newest recruit- this would allow the elvish girl to take a deep breath and become slightly more comfortable, along with the kind and gentle mannerisms that Bai would exhibit outward to the girl of the dark heart. While Aerith was quite the stern and serious individual in terms of the way that she would act around, well, everyone, she was still slightly nervous about the impressions that the pair of mycelia had made prior to the conversation that the two were having upon the cold stones of the exterior of the home of the red cross. It would manifest into the fear that they would be deemed as that of morally wrong individuals due to the theft of what once sat upon the job board of the guild, despite the intentions of the two being nothing more than good and curious of what those of the crimson guild would truly represent in work. ♡

♡ Empathetically, it would appear as if Suzhen would appear sorrowful in terms of the response that she would give about the loss of the demon hunter's brood- reflecting on the past was not something that the blade dancer had enjoyed much, as she felt as though it brought on unnecessary emotions that would not be currently needed. However, sometimes magical introductions in the shadows needed information as such; while restoring the demon agaric castle would be extremely difficult to what it once was due to the lack of resources required to rule singlehandedly with only a few spirit advisors, it was indeed possible with the growth of her magical power and the reaping of evil souls. But it would never be the same without her parental figures roaming the halls of dragon scale and red mushrooms- they had ruled with grace and compassion toward those that deemed themselves as part of the morally good, which the summoner strived to adopt in her own, solitary rule. Lady Aeris would look down toward the stone that lined the ground as a glistening tear would fall from her eye, thinking of just how proud the elvish dolls that she considered to be her true parents would be of her accomplishments. She felt as if they would be proud of her seeking out of a guild that held their ideals as well, in addition to the upholding of the paragon in which her lost brother would not wish to validate. ♡

"I appreciate you greatly for listening to my story, Bai Suzhen," the demon would speak as she would wipe away another glistening tear that would begin to fall down her cheek with her blanket, raising her cigarette to her lips once more, "the revenge of the death of my kin is something that I proclaim with each incision caused by my glistening cutlass, Lilith, against the evil that lurks within the shadows of the universe. But the glory of my throne will come in due time." She would come off as confident in this iteration of her words; it did not seem possible for her castle to become any less inactive in terms of the royal courts of the planets of the Wakusei Portals in her eyes. It was almost as if the fortress had turned into that of a sanctuary from those that sought out evil, where the mushroom spirits and its residuals would be able to peacefully reside. Now that the progeny of the Demon Agaric was far away from her accommodation, the evil that sought out the demonic forest did not make itself known to the innocent wisps that hopped through the fungal trees; while some did still appear, her true mother would be able to take care of them, just like it did the destroyer of worlds. ♡

♡ However, it would appear to the Aerith as if the conversation would switch almost as quickly as the blood of the unholy would hit the floor while she would be in a skirmish; the indigo-haired maid would reference what she had witnessed earlier within the depths of the guildhall, being that of Mr. Toadstool's thievery of one of the compositions of work that sat upon the bulletin. The unholy mage's eyes would hit the floor as she would take a minute to respond to Bai Suzhen, her glint appearing to be quite still, but filled with the emotion of worry. Delicately reaching her hand toward the cap of her black cat, she would remove the now crumbled piece of paper and attempt to straighten it out before directly handing it to the girl that accompanied her to the outdoors, squeezing her stuffed mushroom out of anxious habits. Due to this, the exceed would jump and roll off of the giant mushroom that it was once sleeping on, jumping onto the smooth stone of the bastion. ♡

"Please excuse Mr. Toadstool from his doings in terms of the unauthorized removal of this request," the tattooed girl would awkwardly remark as she would avoid direct eye contact with the maid as she would quietly speak, "but due to the amount of disloyalty I have witnessed first-hand in relation to good morals, both in Ishgar and within my own inner circles, I- I did not feel as though I would be able to blindly devote myself to a cause without experiencing what they were to represent on my own." Regardless of her quiet and nervous verbiage, Aerith would speak entirely of truth, which she would wish to be noticed by the girl of the world serpent; raising her rose cigarette to her mouth once more, she would begin to speak as it would sit in-between the side of her lip, the smoke drifting out as she would continue to speak. "This is what truly brought the two of us to Amber Island. I wished to take this contract of assassination to seek out the dark individuals that Dies Irae seeks out as well; this would allow me to come to the conclusion of whether or not the ideals and morals of this guild were of that which I could find myself to trust all by my lonesome."

"But now that I have found myself in the grasp of one of its members, I do not feel as though I would need to go through drastic lengths to prove that trustworthiness," Aerith would raise her head to meet her ruby-red eyes with the Dies Irae member, her hands reaching out in an attempt to gently meet them with hers, "Am I truly able to trust you, Bai Suzhen? Do the morals of Dies Irae truly align with my own, and am I able to have faith in its other members? If you are capable of promising me this, I believe as though I am ready to accept the pointed crimson cross that would consider me as part of this alliance."

The Dongxian scholar noted the lachrymal droplet that fell out of the elven girl's eye. It was not surprising to see that talking about a past as painful as Aerith's would move the Agaric princess to an emotional response, although Suzhen also noted, with quite a bit of approval, that Aerith had so far managed to control her emotions to a large extent. By the Dongxian's reckoning, there was nothing wrong with expressing one's emotions, although Suzhen had to admit, whether it was due to her own upbringing, or her personal temperament, that being able to keep one's emotions in rein to a relative degree brought with it some level of inherent dignity. It was certainly alright to cry, or laugh, or get angry, but Suzhen felt that these things had to be expressed with some level of decorum. Screaming one's head off just because one wanted to get the waterworks running, for instance, was childish and unrefined. Unless something had forced her to take leave of her right senses, she wouldn't be caught doing so. Thus, in her eyes, the crimson-eyed girl had showed a commendable level of strength.

It seemed Aerith was quite invested in the execution of revenge against whatever had ruined her home, even having some mental conceptions as to how the demise of such creatures would come about. It was good to see that, unlike some other sentient creatures, Aerith chose to channel her pain and anger into something praiseworthy, at least in Suzhen's opinion, an opinion which she felt the rest of Dies Irae shared. There were some who, although consumed by revenge, only focused the scathing ray of their hatred on specifically what had caused their negative emotions. While that was relatively reasonable, it was not very sustainable, as she had seen people, who by some unexpected event, suddenly gain the power to enact their revenge. Once this had been carried out, most of them became empty shells of themselves, stripped of what had been their motivation for existence. That Aerith would seek to extend her vengeance to evil  in general, wherever it could be found in the universe, was a good thing, because it would allow the elf to remain motivated in the fight against the darkness, even if she had done away with the factors specifically responsible for destroying her kin. Though she was not a high-ranking member of the guild, Suzhen was certain that people motivated for the right reasons, like the elven girl before her, were a good fit for the guild. And while it would ultimately rest on the guild Ambassadors to determine whether Aerith would be worthy to join or not, Suzhen was sure that the elf would have no problems.

The Dongxian took the paper handed to her gently, and gave it a quick look. It seemed to be concerned with the elimination of something or someone evil. Suzhen didn't bother to examine the details; she could always do that later. For now, she was intent on making Aerith feel at ease; the elf seemed to be rather anxious, especially because it was quite possible that the 'looting' of the mission board could be looked on as theft. "Well, you do seem rather motivated," the indigo-haired girl said with a little chuckle. So that was Aerith's reason for trying to get a mission slip. To see whether the guild was of similar moral inclinations as she was. Much of what the Agaric blade dancer said resonated with Suzhen. It was wise to attempt to know the underlying values of an organization before signing up. Suzhen had made her own research concerning the guild before she had been convinced enough to join. There was wisdom in prudence, as far as the Dongxian girl was concerned.

With Aerith gently reaching out her hands towards Suzhen's own, the scholar was a bit surprised. A good number of people joining the guild came all business-like and military, which was to be expected; Dies Irae was, after all, military in function. But although Aerith had come with very plausible business of her own, she did something that Suzhen didn't expect: she desired trust. Keeping her own green eyes fixed on Aerith's carmine, Suzhen gently took the elf princess' hands, while giving her a gentle smile. "You ask a very difficult question, Lady Agaric," she said softly. "Trust is not something to be given, or accepted, quickly. And humans may often fail in much for which they desire to be true. Still," Suzhen's voice voice became a little stronger, "with everything I've heard, it is quite obvious that your goals align with those of this guild. And I can assure you of one thing: while the members of this guild come in all varieties, if your heart is true, you will definitely not stand alone in the face of the dark. I cannot speak for others, but for my own part, I will strive to show myself worthy of your trust, should you bequeath it to me."

Of course, it was one thing to speak words, it was an entirely different thing to stand by one's words. Suzhen was quite aware of the weakness of mortal beings, but what made heroics possible was the willingness to be true to one's own, whether words, friends, family or values. She always wanted to be someone her guild could trust. At a time when she was asked if she could be trusted, the best response would be to answer in the affirmative, and try to live up to her words. Gently, she drew her hands away from Aerith's, making sure to leave the mission slip in the elf girl's hands. "I'm quite certain you'll make a good member of Dies Irae," the Dongxian said with a lot of conviction. "So you may as well hold on to that. I don't think you'd be too pleased to return to the board just to realize that one of the other hot-blooded guild mates has absconded with that mission."
