    ❂ Valentine's Happenstance! ❂ JrBLMi1

Gwen made her way through Rose Garden with a skip in her step, as excitable as ever. Today was a special day, one she expected to be full of fun. Then again, she was an optimist by nature, so no matter where she was heading it was an adventure in her eyes. The other day she’d seen an advert about a company who was having a testing day for their new theme park. Everything from rides to food stands was based around love in its cheesiest form. Hearts in reds and pinks were all over the flyer, an indication that the park itself was going to be over-the-top in decoration. Gwen loved theme parks, so she didn’t hesitate to sign up right away!

Gwen’s iLac navigation system piped up, breaking into her daydreaming about candy hearts. 'In 2,000 feet, you will arrive at your destination,' it said in a smooth female voice. “Thanks Gail!” the young woman chirped in response, earning a strange look from several people on the sidewalk as she passed. She had a bad habit of giving human names and personalities to inanimate objects. The iLac voice had been dubbed Gail not for any particular reason, just because Gwen thought it was a pretty name.

As she approached the gate to the park, Gwen checked to make sure she looked presentable. Her short hair was pulled back into matching pigtails, a hairstyle she’d worn a lot as a child but still enjoyed as an adult. Today she’d worn her favorite bright yellow jacket to fight the mild February chill, accompanied by some comfortable jeans. She wasn’t really sure if this was a job to dress professionally for, but based on the location, she’d erred on the casual side.

After checking in at the front gate, Gwen was ushered inside and told to participate in whatever activities she wished. There was so much to take in that her energetic mind couldn’t focus on just one thing right away. Heart-shaped everything in warm colors, signs, rides, booths, there was almost too much. A booth that advertised cake decorating caught her eye first, so Gwen made her way there. In her mind, she was already forming a game plan on how to hit every activity in the park if she could manage it.

    You can appreciate the LIGHT,
But first you must know DARKNESS.
So, this was Rose Garden, bright, lively, colourful, and noisey, very very noisey. Perhaps that had to do with the ad that was put out about the Valentine's Day activities. Rowan sighed, he recalled his previous Valentine's Days, he was always at a bar and at the end of the night in someone else's bed. There really wasn't much love behind it, but the passion was there.

Glancing around at the event participants Rowan couldn't help but scrunch his nose. Sure there was love amongst some of the people that he had worked with, but none of it was as sappy as what he was surrounded with now. It was nearly blinding to him. Was being surrounded by people who didn't constantly and vivaciously want power and money always like this? Parties and events? Probably. A soft sigh escaped the lips from the man as he began to turn away from the event.

As much as he enjoyed the idea, it likely wasn't the best for him. His head hurt from the ruckus and loud squealing of all genders that happened relatively frequently. Pressing his finger tips to his forehead the white haired mage turned on his heel to start leaving. However, it didn't seem that in the stars that that was his fate. As the man seemed to catch his foot on the corner of a nearby booth which sent him crashing him into the stall next to him.

    Cake.

The booth that he had collided with was a cake decorating booth; and as his body slammed into the table at the booth, the whole thing began to tip.

Furious curses slipped from the lips of the man in a whispered yell and the white haired made did his best the block whoever it was, some brunette haired girl who had been at the stall, from getting sprinkles and colourful icing all over herself.

Rowan wasn't particularly trying to be nice as he did his best to cover her with his own body, but he knew that, if he didn't then there was a possibility that the person would get mad at him and he in turn would snap and then much of what he was working for would be all for naught. Thus, he only cursed at himself as he could feel the little pebbling of cake decorations against his black turtleneck shirt. He really could only get mad at himself.

When the fallout of his collison finally came to a close the white haired mage looked up from his position to the girl that he had protected. Oh, that was a familiar face, "Hey you're that girl from Motorcity."

Gwen made it to the cake decorating booth, still working out her day plan in her head as she looked it over. A glass case held several cakes that were already decorated. Some were quite nice looking, while others looked like a bunch of toddlers had been given caffeine and frosting then set loose on the cake. It seemed to be some sort of contest. Gwen had a competitive and overconfident spirit, so she was certain she would ace this. Nothing could stand in her way when she got ambitious!

Well, not nothing. It seemed the booth itself would stand in her way, or rather fall in her way. She watched as it jolted to the side, then seemed to tilt in slow motion. Gwen stood dumbfounded, only able to watch with wide eyes as the whole thing came tumbling down. Shelves full of sprinkles fell in a sweet, multicolored rain. A splattering container of frosting was heading right for her face. Gwen raised her hands in front of her face to stop it, closing her eyes as she waited for the feeling of frosting on her skin.

Nothing came into contact with her. A dark-clothed form had appeared between her and the booth, shielding her from the sugary disaster. Looking up slowly, Gwen was met with a familiar face. It was a man she’d met in Motor City a while back. She’d stepped in to help ease a road rage incident between him and a driver and hadn’t seen him since.

“H-hi,” Gwen replied with a faint wave of her fingers. She dared peek around his tall form, wincing at the sugary mess that was the cake decorating booth.

    You can appreciate the LIGHT,
But first you must know DARKNESS.
The girl from before raised her fingers at him, waving them slightly as she said hello to him in a mousy manner. He hadn't scared her had he? Well, he wouldn't be surprised if he had considering the fact that he seemed to be covering most of her body.

Oh. Right. Rowan sighed to himself as he finally thought back to the mess that he had created of the stall and likely of several of the other people there, including himself. Pursing his lips slightly and scrunching his nose, the man tried to calm himself before pushing himself up. "Damn. Fuck." The stall was worse than he imagined, but better than it could have been. Cake had been flown and crumbled everywhere while icing and sprinkles decorated nearly every imaginable cerface. Before he would have just simply ignored it and told the people around him to fuck right off, maybe cause a bit more destruction and then leave. But that was then, this was now.

Tilting his head to the side the man closed his eyes, "Ah, shit." His hand reached up to scratch at the back of his head. Rowan looked to the people who had been previously running the stall and although he thought his face seemed rather neutral, if not slightly aggravated at himself, it clearly didn't seem that way to the other people as one look from him seemed to startle them. The white haired mage looked away from them and back down to the girl, well there was one thing he didn't destroy. "Sorry about that." He reached a hand out to the girl, offering to help her up.

Icy eyes slid back to the owners of the cake stall, he wanted to apologize. Yet, as he opened his mouth one of them spoke out first. "it's all fine. We can handle it here, there's more supplies behind the tent. W-we'll just clean up and it'll all be fine. No need to stick around." There was a bit of a stutter and waiver in their voice as they spoke. Rowan knew from previous co-workers that even if he didn't say anything the seemed to inflict a fear into the people around him. Fear or maybe adrenaline. Whatever it was, or however the person wanted to interpret it, it was a side effect of his lightning slightly increasing their heart rate.

Rowan wanted to protest, but it seemed like the owners seemed pretty keen on him leaving. "Yeah, whatever," Rowan muttered as he turned his back on the cake stand. He was now caked in, well, cake, and it was starting to seep through his shirt. How gross.

The string of swears that came from the guy’s mouth echoed the same sentiment Gwen was feeling as she looked over the cake carnage with wide eyes. What a delicious mess! All the cakes in the glass case from earlier were smashed to bits on the concrete. Blobs of frosting had splattered over everything they could touch, topped by the many sprinkles she saw falling earlier. Gwen pouted slightly as she thought of how much of a waste it was. Nobody would eat all that cake now that it was in a mess all over the ground.

“It’s okay! Thank you,” Gwen replied, taking the man’s hand and returning to her feet. “I would have been covered in frosting if it weren’t for you!” She brushed off her clothes. He seemed to want to apologize to the booth employees, but they dismissed him nervously. Apparently they had extra supplies in the back.

Gwen looked back and forth between the booth and the guy’s cake-covered back as he started to walk away. Instinctually, she wanted to help the booth employees clean up. It was a big mess for so few people to fix. However, her acquaintance seemed frustrated at what had happened and the employees' refusal to accept assistance.

Biting her lip, Gwen went with her heart. Pulling a few jewel from her bag, she placed it on the cleanest space of the booth she could. Money was a bit tight, but it felt like the right thing to do. She spotted some pink napkins on a broken shelf and grabbed up a few to stuff in her hoodie pocket. With a sheepish wave at the booth employees, she jogged off after the white-haired man. Maybe she could convince him to do some games or rides to cheer him up!

“Hey!” Gwen said as she caught up, putting on her best positive smile. “It was an accident, so don’t worry about it too much, okay?” Reaching into her hoodie pocket, she pulled out the pink napkins and extended them to him as they walked. “I got these if you want to try to clean up. It’s not much, but hopefully it’ll get the cake out of your clothes enough. Frosting is kind of messy! If it doesn’t come out we could always try to find something else you can wear for the day. Theme parks usually have a souvenir shop or something. You might have to wear red or pink for the afternoon though.” She let out a laugh, oblivious to how much she was rambling.

“I don’t think I ever caught your name, even back in Motor City,” Gwen added, tilting her head and extending her hand to shake. “I’m Gwen, it’s nice to meet you again!”

Rowan didn't expect the girl to follow behind him, as he was the one that had caused the mess. However, as he heard her voice behind him he couldn't help but looking back at her in surprise. He paused moving and waited for her to catch up to him, listening to her as she spoke to him.

Lightning blue eyes flickered to the pink napkins that she held out to him. Rowan's lips twitched slightly, he really wasn't expecting this. Hesitantly he reached out to the gift and he raised a brow as he took the napkins. He wasn't sure how he was supposed to reach his back to get the icing off, but they were a kind sentiment. He could however wipe the icing and cake from his hair, so he supposed that was better than nothing. Taking the napkins he began to slightly rub at his hair, slightly trying to get the sticky frosting so that it wouldn't bother him later. Though, the thought of a place like this having clothes for sale surprised him. Then again, he had never been to a festival before. "Ah, red isn't that bad of a colour. I think I could probably pull off pink as well," Rowan slightly muttered to himself, but to the girl as well, it wasn't a complete attempt of him trying to defend his ego, but it was there.

Rowan paused for a moment looking at the girl who he could now call Gwen. He cocked his brow and solidly stuck his hand out to shake hers, if he shocked her slightly, it was certainly by accident. "Rowan." The white haired male looked down at her and tried to smile. "It is a bit surprising to run into you again soon, though I suppose it's rather good seeing as you've helped me in both cases."

The white haired mage couldn't help but feel a bit sorry for the girl, maybe he could pay her back in some way. It was something that he had seen when fighting others previously, a thing of feeling like they had to owe someone for something and paying them back. He wasn't used to it, it wasn't something that he normally did, amongst the people he had been with before it was mostly help someone and never give a shit ever again, if they pay you back then good for them. "I suppose I owe you then. Let me grab something from this souvenir shop you speak of, you can even pick it out seeing as I'm the reason cake went everywhere in the first place, then we can go on a ride or something."

”Pink is a great color, you’d rock it for sure!” Gwen agreed, giving a supportive thumbs up. He’d taken the napkins from her and was trying to get the frosting out of his hair. She realized he couldn’t reach the frosting on his back, but hesitated to offer to help. The thought of touching a guy anywhere other than the hands made her a little embarrassed.

He introduced himself as Rowan, and when they shook hands Gwen felt a slight shock run through hers. It reminded her of when her brothers used the long carpet in their grandparents house to generate static electricity through their feet and run around zapping her. She couldn’t help but jump a little at the unexpected sensation. “I’m glad we got to meet again!” she piped up.

“Oh no you don’t owe-” Gwen started, but immediately got distracted. “I get to pick?” she asked, eyes lighting up. “We’re gonna find you the best sweatshirt in the whole shop!” A determined grin crossed her face as she took the lead, heading towards where she had seen the sign for a souvenir shop.

As the two entered the little shop, Gwen’s vision was filled with many vibrant colors. Every piece of clothing was an obnoxiously bright red or pink, decorated with cupids and hearts. “What size are you?” she asked, beginning to sift through the racks. Things weren’t looking promising, but she was too optimistic to admit it. All these clothes were so gaudy, even for Gwen’s taste.

    You can appreciate the LIGHT,
But first you must know DARKNESS.
Rowan was prepared to defend his statement. If he was gonna get better and being good, he needed to follow what seemed the proper protocols, even if it meant being dressed up like a doll. However, it seemed like Gwen was all for it when he told her that she could choose what he wore. Internally Rowan cried, no on had ever touched his clothes much less picked them out. What was he gonna do if the brunette decided to dress him in something terrible. He might ditch her there and just leave to change right after, forget going on rides. 'No, no, that would be rude. You have to put up with it.' The white haired man internally cringed and prayed that this wouldn't go as badly as he was imagining.

He followed behind her, she wasn't that hard to keep track of seeing as two of her steps was equal to one of his. But, the girl was cute with her anticipation. Something that Rowan didn't really expect. He wasn't used to people being so attentive or putting so much thought into what he was going to wear, most of the women or men that he had been with before were more focused on themselves and or his money. This was a change of pace, and Rowan couldn't deny that he liked it.

However, as Rowan stepped into the shop he almost turned back around as a visceral reaction to the colours that were taking over his sight. Bright pinks and red coloured his vision and the white haired man did everything that he could to not just possibly grab the girl by the back of her shirt and high tail it back out, telling her that she would have to find a shirt from somewhere else.

Thus, he closed his eyes. Eyes closed and he wouldn't see the problem. He listened for Gwen to his right as he moved into the shop carefully, his hands touching the pieces of cloth as to see if he could find a way to be next to her without opening his eyes. "Large," Rowan answered and followed the girl's voice. "You're not going to pick anything too gaudy are you? I may look good, but there are things even I can't pull off and I'd prefer to not walk around like a flamboyant flamingo."

    Sweater:

    ❂ Valentine's Happenstance! ❂ JrBLMi1

Gwen could understand his hesitation about being able to find something wearable in this shop. She was a fan of pink, but not to this degree. There were a few things she found kind of cute, but that didn’t help Rowan’s situation. They clearly had very different fashion senses.

“Aww you’d make a good flamingo with being so tall and everything! Just stand on one leg and you’re halfway there!” Gwen teased, holding up a sweater tie-dyed in a neon pink heart shape. She stuck her tongue out at it before hurriedly returning it to the rack. Who on earthland would even wear this kind of stuff?

A few more minutes of searching yielded little results. She found a half-decent white hoodie, but they didn’t have anything near Rowan’s size. Failing to find anything only made Gwen search harder. She was determined to make this work!

At last, hiding in the depths of a rack at the back of the shop, Gwen rummaged up a semi-normal sweater. It was red with two large white hearts on the chest, surrounded by a white pattern that almost looked Christmas-like. The hearts on the chest were in a weird location, but it was the most basic piece of clothing she could find.

“How about this?” Gwen asked excitedly, holding up the red sweater. It was nearly as big as she was, hiding her from Rowan’s view except for her hands. “If you don’t like the front you could probably wear it inside out.”

    You can appreciate the LIGHT,

Why would this girl even think like that? Rowan grumbled slightly, 'who would ever want to be a flamingo? By choice or not?' But Rowan didn't voice it, just stood there and brood a little bit as he followed behind Gwen.  He couldn't see what she was picking up and holding out to him, but by the sound of her putting it back on the rack, it wasn't always good.

It took a while, Rowan was getting pretty close to giving up and allowing her to just choose something, literally anything as long as it meant getting out of here, when suddenly the brunette paused and held something up to him asking what he thought of it. 'Great'. Rowan peeked his eye open, the rush of pinks and reds flooding his vision again. Her blinked a couple times before looking at the sweater that Gwen had picked out for him. It was red with two white hearts in the center at weird locations. Rowan scrunched his nose and picked up the sweater. If this was the best in the shop then he could only imagine the worst.

Rowan picked up the sweater, looking behind it at the small girl and shrugged, "I might." He probably would. But honestly it was better than nothing in weather like this. Rowan would have never in his life worn this before, he would have been teased by the other dark mages which in result would have ended in a fight.

He tossed the sweater over his forearm to hold on to it and motioned with his head for Gwen to follow him to the cashier. The white haired man cringed as he paid for the piece of clothing and he could see the cashier snickering at him which caused Rowan to glare and grit his teeth at the person. Though he didn't seem to lunge the other person seemed to get it as they suddenly looked a little bit scared and cashed them out faster.

It was only a few minutes and they were outside of the shop. "I thought I was going to go blind, what the fuck was all that bullshit?" Rowan rubbed his eyes as if to accentuate his point before he walked to a bench and tossed the new sweater of the back of it. He didn't care about the people around him as he stripped his top off, the white haired knew that he looked good and it was faster to just change right here than to find a bathroom or a changing room.

Rowan tossed the black turtle neck into the trash next to him and put on the sweater -only after turning it inside out-, tugging it over his head with an internal flinch. Well, it fit, but that was about the only nice thing about it. He sighed and looked over at Gwen, "Well, you up for a ride or something? I'll follow you."

Gwen followed Rowan to the register, flicking through a pamphlet about the park while he paid. There seemed to be some really cool rides here! The sound of quiet snickering caused her to look up curiously. Amusement was fading from the cashier’s face, replaced by an uncomfortable fear. Honey eyes flickered to Rowan, who was glaring at the girl behind the counter.

Gwen was unusually silent as she mulled over what she had seen. She nodded absentmindedly in agreement to Rowan’s statement. Why was the cashier being so mean? Yes, the sweater was definitely not his style, but anything from that shop could hardly be considered wearable. It wasn’t like he had much of a choice. She couldn’t wrap her head around being so callous to a stranger.

“Do you want to find somewhere to-” she began to ask, turning to Rowan. However, the taller man already had whipped his frosting-coated shirt off and thrown it in the trash. People walking by stared at the suddenly shirtless man. Gwen’s eyes fell onto his exposed torso, staring for a moment longer than she intended before averting her eyes forcefully. She didn’t want to stare and be rude. Her freckled cheeks turned slightly pink in embarrassment and she hoped he hadn’t noticed the look on her face.

“Right! A ride!” Gwen spun on her heel, trying to wipe the image of Rowan’s chest from her mind. “I saw a roller coaster in the pamphlet,” she waved the paper in the air, “so let’s do that!” She led the two off across the park, following a drawn map in the folds of the paper.

The line was fairly short, so only a few minutes passed before the ride attendant was buckling them in. The safety bar was lowered and Gwen’s excitement nearly made her shimmy out of her seat. “Do you like roller coasters? I love them! Being up high is so great, you can see everything! Then you drop and WHOOSH and it’s like you’re falling but you’re not ‘cause you’re safe but you still get that feeling!” Gwen gushed on, oblivious to whether or not Rowan was listening. Ever since childhood she’d sought out the highest and most dangerous places to climb just for the rush. There was no fear when she was up high, just excitement and wonder. Roller coasters and crazy rides were right up her alley.

    You can appreciate the LIGHT,
But first you must know DARKNESS.
Rowan noticed the pink on the cheeks of the girl and smirked, he wanted to lean in and tease the poor girl, but seeing as she was avidly trying to avoid looking at him, he felt like she deserved at bit of a break, He could tease her later.

A rollercoaster, huh? He had never been on one of those before. Even as a kid he had been raised with a family that had little to nothing and couldn't afford to bring him to places like this. He stuffed his hands into the pockets of his jeans and leaned back slightly as he followed behind the brunette, she lead him through the park, past several other rides and events to the ride that she had been talking about. The line for it was relatively short and it didn't take long for the the two f the to get corralled into the car and the seat belt of a bar pushed down on their legs.

From looking at the ride outside, it seemed like the car they were in zipped around and did loops at a fast pace. It didn't seem so bad, if anything Rowan was slightly excited to see what it was like. Though his face didn't portray it as he seemed to just stare blankly in one direction as Gwen talked beside him. He was vaguely listening and it seemed like she liked riding these kinds of things. If she liked it then it couldn't be that bad, right? "I'm never been on one, if you like it it must be good."

Wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong. The moment their feet left the ground Rowan found himself at the mercy of the ride. The first hill wasn't that bad, but the moment that the two were turned upside down Rowan's fingers clung to the plastic covering the metal bar. This was terrible! Rowan's eyes clenched shut and he grit his teeth, a somewhat self preserving force trying to make sure that he didn't send out any electric shocks. It wasn't particularly that he didn't like high places or fast rides, it was the whole not having control of his body that did it for him. All he could do was try not to release any magic as he was unwillingly jerked to and fo.

Thus, the moment that they stepped off the ride the white haired male glared at the metal structure and promised to himself that he would never do that again. "That this has no mercy. I feel like my stomach has been turned on its end." Rowan stood up straight and leaned backwards slightly, placing his hands on his hips as it he were trying to stretch out his back. "Maybe next we do something that won't make me feel like I just had an out of body experience, hmm?" Rowan's icy eyes looked down at the brunette, he was going to follow wherever she went, except back on that metal monstrosity.

”I do have good taste,” Gwen teased, not noticing how little he was paying attention to her. That wasn’t unusual, though, as she tended to talk people’s ears off more than she realized.

The moment the ride started, Gwen was in the zone. Before she knew it her arms were up, her eyes wide, and she was laughing and cheering like a maniac. The roller coaster got more intense as it went along, only adding to her glee. Each drop gave her that adrenaline and free fall feeling that she craved like a junkie.

“That was so awesome!” she cheered, throwing her arms in the air as they exited the seats. Gwen didn’t even realize how awful the ride was for Rowan until he spoke up. She was still riding the adrenaline high.

Once his words sunk in, her face fell a little. While she didn’t understand how someone couldn’t love a crazy ride like that, she also felt bad for taking him on something that made him feel bad. He seemed to be fine when they got on, so she’d assumed he would like it.

“Sorry,” Gwen apologized, pouting out her lower lip a little. “I didn’t know roller coasters made you sick. Maybe let’s try one of the carnival game things instead of a ride?” she suggested, pulling the pamphlet out of her pocket once more. There seemed to be a laser tag game over by where the destroyed cake booth was. However, not wanting to do the walk of shame by that booth to get to the laser tag, Gwen decided they’d take the long way around.

Along the way, she couldn’t help but gawk at all the souvenir booths and games. So much pink filled her vision that she thought she was wearing rose-colored glasses. Her intrigued gazing was interrupted by someone tapping her shoulder rather aggressively.

“Huh?” Gwen turned to see a guy in an obnoxiously sparkly red suit standing next to her. He had a handlebar mustache that was curled up at the ends and his face was decorated with bright red and pink makeup. The getup looked like a character right out of a cartoon.

“Say, little lady, want to participate in the kissing booth? Just step right up, pucker up, and get the best kiss of your life! What do you say?” his voice sounded like an announcer at a sporting match.

“Um…” Gwen stammered, feeling overwhelmed. She’d only kissed one person before, and that was in her childhood. A boy from a neighboring farm to her home had become friends with her brothers, but seemed to show interest in her. He’d led her out into his family’s corn fields, held her hand, and they’d exchanged a quick, embarrassed smooch. Of course, her nosy brothers had found out and told their mother, who didn’t let the boy come over again.

“Well, I-” she began to say, but the suited man was already pushing her towards the booth. There wasn’t much she could do at this point, so she decided to just suck it up and make the best of the situation. Everything had a silver lining in her eyes, so this couldn’t be that bad, right?

Following a series of bad strokes of luck over the past few months, Gwen was again placed in the most unfortunate of circumstances. As she reached the booth, she leaned forward over the table, scrunching her eyes closed as she waited for the kiss to come. Maybe this would be a great learning experience, or maybe the kiss would spark a lifelong romance with a stranger. That was a nice fantasy, perfect to distract from what was to come.

Gwen was not expecting the beard. It was so scratchy that she couldn’t even focus on the fact that she was being kissed. The hair felt like someone had shoved a puppy in her face, and not even a soft one! Instinctually, she jerked backwards, stumbling a few steps. The man that had peeked out from the curtain stroked his long, dark beard and gave her a wink. He disappeared behind the curtain in a blink.

Looking around for Rowan, Gwen returned to his side, completely frazzled. The red-suited man was nowhere to be seen, so she couldn’t ask him what the hell he’d dragged her there for. This wasn’t how her second kiss ever was supposed to go! It wasn’t supposed to be some weird bearded guy at a theme park! “That was really weird.” Gwen snuggled deeper into her hoodie, trying to hide the embarrassed blush on her cheeks.

“Let's go play some laser tag, okay?” she suggested to Rowan, trying to avoid discussing what had just happened.
