Coming to a new world for a new contract was always an interesting time. Especially worlds as primitive as Earthland, it provided a unique path on how to suss out the target and finally take them down. The smarter bounties ran to the backwater planets and kept their head down, attempting to disappear into the monotonous backdrop of a world not as advanced as others. Hosrius couldn’t help but be impressed with his current target -- Earthland was perhaps the least advanced world he had been to yet. And yet, at the same time, they possessed their own unique track of advancement that he hadn’t seen in the world. Some kind of source of power called magic that allowed them to defy practical laws of physics. He’d seen people summon fire from thin air and hold it in their hand like it was nothing. He’d seen people flying through the air without the aid of wings, boosters or ships.
It was unlike anything he’d seen before. It was truly fascinating and wondrous, even to a veteran mercenary like him. In a way, Earthland had advanced beyond the technological requirements other worlds subscribed to. That made them both a threat and a target -- no doubt the pilfering empires of the galaxy would attempt to enslave and harness the magic upon the world, especially once they found out about its existence. His employers hadn’t and they knew a lot more than most other institutions but it was only a matter of time.
But that wasn’t Hosrius’ concern -- he was here for a job and nothing more. His universal search network was useless without some kind of hub of connection to Earthland’s Lacnet. That meant he had to get his hands on some of their technology and retroactively connect it to his network. It was a task he was partially suited for but his ship would provide instructions to help him do it correctly. He’d considered researching the corporations of the world and figuring out which one was equipped with the top tier tech when he discovered something called an iLac. It was a communication device that was linked to a neural network and the Lacnet. And better yet, it seemed they were giving it away for free.
So he had journeyed to the Neutral Lands, a city that was apparently lacking in the source material that allowed magic to be used. For his part, Hosrius didn’t feel all that different. In fact, it reminded him of the larger cities one found on the more civilized worlds of his universe. All technology, with structures that showcased the pinnacle of engineering. It didn’t take him very long while in the city to decide that the Neutral Grounds would serve as his base of operations. He just needed to acquire some of the local currency. First he went and retrieved his free iLac, looking over the small phone with interest. The man was, surprisingly, not as slack-jawed at the sight of Hosrius, though he did ask where he came from. A standard, understandable question.
‘Far away’ was always a remarkable answer to provide. With iLac in hand, the bounty hunter set out back for his ship, ready to link to the world’s network. Then he would fly his ship back to Neutral Grounds, so as to keep it closer to home. Never know when he would have to make a hasty retreat.
