-The Neutral Grounds, early afternoon-
It was about forty minutes past noon when Leona had arrived on the outskirts of the Neutral Grounds and it took her another thirty to reach the iLac factory, but Leona had finally made it. She was standing outside the factory where the famous iLac multimedia device was made and given to hundreds every day. Now it was the Wizard Saint's turn to finally get one of her own.
Wearing a casual outfit of green tank top, green and white skirt from her usual outfit, and the boots that matched the skirt, Leona felt more self-conscious about her casual outfit than she did about not having access to her magic in the Neutral Grounds or having access to a weapon. She had intended for today to be a casual excursion, but maybe her outfit selection had been a little bit too casual. It felt like her tank top was drawing too much attention to her chest and that made her feel self-conscious whether it was true or not. She was a Wizard Saint and had an image to maintain, but maybe she would get a bit of slack today. Leona took a deep breath and walked through the double doors of the iLac factory.
-Inside the iLac Factory-
Leona entered the factory to find it surprisingly empty. The large building was empty of everyone except factory employees, but it had upbeat pop music playing on the overhead speakers and employees who looked happy to be there. Leona walked through the lobby with black and white checkerboard tile and found a blonde female employee wearing a company uniform consisting of a blue polo shirt with the iLac logo on the left and a white name tag on the right and black dress pants with black shoes.
"Hi, I'm Katrina! Welcome to the iLac Factory!" The young woman with waist-length blonde hair and green eyes greeted Leona. Leona waved at her and approached the wooden counter.
"Hi there. I'm looking to get an iLac." Leona replied. Katrina smiled.
"I can help you with that. You can get an iLac in the color of your choosing so that it stands out in a crowd!" Katrina informed her. Leona was pleased to hear that. She already had a color in mind, but she was not sure what hue or shade she wanted it to be.
"Did you have a color in mind or would you like to look through our catalog?" Katrina asked.
"I want a blue one, but I was thinking a shade of blue that's different from the base color. It's a choice between royal blue and cerulean." Leona answered. The young woman reached for a keyboard, did some rapid-fire typing, and turned a computer monitor perched on the counter around to show Leona a preview of what her iLac would look like in the color she chose.
"There it is in cerulean..." Katrina said. Leona looked over the image on the monitor for a few moments and was pleased with the shade of blue. It reminded her of the custom drink she had ordered at Urban Nights, which was one she had named the Cerulean Chaser. Not only did the drink somehow get up and dance in step with the music, it had also turned Leona's blonde hair cerulean until the drink wore off. Leona found it amusing that she had considered making her iLac cerulean after memories of the animated drink, but before she committed to that she wanted to see what the device would look like in royal blue.
"And here it is in royal blue." Katrina said after more rapid-fire typing. The image on the monitor changed to show an iLac in royal blue. Leona liked the darker shade of blue since it gave an air of power and dignity... at least in her opinion. Now that she had seen both shades of blue, Leona now had a choice to make.
Did she want cerulean or did she want royal blue?
Leona liked both, but in the end only one choice could win. She liked the levity of cerulean and she liked the dignity of royal blue. It was a tough call.
In the end Leona decided to go with royal blue. She liked the air of dignity and subdued power that it gave off. Even though sometimes she still felt like an upstart from the desert, she had gone from rags to riches and felt like royal blue was an appropriate color for her. Leona had become something approaching royalty through her titles and her place as one of the strongest mages currently in existence.
"I'd like a royal blue iLac, please." Leona requested. Katrina nodded and did more rapid typing, then turned the monitor back around so that it faced her.
"OK, your iLac has been ordered. It'll take a few minutes for it to be ready, so wait for me here, OK?" Katrina asked Leona. Leona nodded and watched Katrina go to the left and through a set of double doors many meters away. The Wizard Saint folded her arms and began the wait for her new iLac.
-Thirty minutes later-
"Sorry about the wait! We had a bit of trouble with the royal blue paint, but we finally got it worked out! Here's your new iLac!" Katrina apologized from afar. Leona turned to face her and saw that she was carrying not only a royal blue iLac but also its box and instruction manual. Leona was pleased with her choice of color and watched Katrina gently set the iLac, box, and manual on the counter in front of her.
"I can offer you a quick-start tutorial so that you can use your iLac right away or you can take the manual home and read it. Which would you like?" Katrina asked.
"I'd like the quick-start tutorial, please." Leona answered. She did not have anything pressing to do today, so she decided to learn how to at least turn on the device while she was at the factory. Katrina nodded.
"OK! The power button's on the upper right of the device, as you can see here..." Katrina obligingly started the tutorial. Leona paid attention to the demonstration of where the power button was, the location of the volume controls, and other details she would need to know in order to use the handheld technological marvel that was in front of her. Leona felt optimistic about this. If she could learn to use a Daggerbook, she could certainly learn how to use an iLac. When the day came when she learned how to proficiently use an iLac without consulting the manual the Wizard Saint from the desert would finally get with the times... who said that an old lioness could not learn new tricks?
