Elf Tails [Event | Kumiko] Empty Elf Tails [Event | Kumiko]

Post by Mura Kensho 5th December 2020, 7:40 pm

    Event Info:
Christmas once again reached the streets of Magnolia Town in huge fashion. The townsfolk sure knew how to prep up for a holiday; in times like these, the town was barely recognizable if you had only seen a panorama image of it once and then entered the gate today. Lots of helix-formed, colored papers were put up hanging from the rooftops - green, red and white were the themes of this glorious, merry holiday that Mura looked forward to - Christmas was quite nicer than Halloween, in the end… despite past incidents having been associated with the usually comfortable break.

Mura had noticed that a few contests were played up near the guild hall, and most of the guild members had already gone out to celebrate. He figured that he might as well check out these activities and hope for the best - sometimes, huge events like these drew in bad company like the uh… those from the outdoor summer festival back then. Was their name Slash or something…?

The snow had begun to fall without warning, so the outside had a layer of white snow decorating the surface of the kerb in the streets. Dragonbane Avenue had plenty of footprints from passers-by approaching one of the contests; a tree-decorating bout. A good start to enjoy himself on today’s free time.

Y’know, Mura hadn’t been able to celebrate Christmas back at home, ‘cause his family had a whole other holiday to celebrate at this time - coming of youth. But Mura had begun associating early winter with Christmas more apparently over the years - as if he was making space in his identity as a Midian-

    Oh! That did remind him-

“Does Kumi-chan even know what Christmas is? She should take the day off as well…” he expressed his consideration. Kumi-chan, despite her… apparent age (still up to debate), had been working a lot to keep the guild hall and its facilities clean, and while it was a great help and a solid source of experience for her to mature… well…

    She wasn’t a child soldi-

Wow, fuck that. He actually let what was written on the Sorcerer’s Magazine get to his head - really? Mura, you were more independent than that, and you knew exactly what the guild stood for. Such childish allegations wouldn’t affect you in any way - as if anyone genuinely found it troublesome-

Listen, if there was a problem with the way the guild’s view on recruits and their backgrounds processed concerning age, then in all honesty, the Magic Council should’ve stepped in a long time ago. Mura, himself, joined the guild when he was 12, and on top of being tutored how to speak the local tongue, he too tended to the guild that he pretty much lived in.

Ah, now his head hurt… why did he let that get to him? It would be far more suitable to just ‘out of mind’ the whole ordeal and do what he planned to do… find Kumi-chan.

“Kumi-chan!” Mura called into the hall, “Kumi-chan! There’s a contest outside; ya wanna try it out? They hand out peppermint sticks as rewards, and I can vouch that they taste just as sweet as ame ringos!”

    MY STORY IS JUST BEGINNING
"Clean, clean, clean." Kumiko hummed to herself while busy wiping down the guild hall's floor with a mop and her trusty bucket, assisting the cleaning staff in their duty of sanitizing the place from top to bottom every week or so. They enjoyed the girl's willingness to help and her even quicker pace at racing around from room to room. What took her mind off of it would be the many kind of decorations lining the walls for the holidays here. There were trees with shining, shimmering lights and decorations of all kinds of colors. Kumiko had been confused at first and asked around before receiving her answer in the form of confused stares and general disbelief. "Christmas?" she repeated, her irises only showcasing her confusion. Back in Midi, they never celebrated such types of events and typically only did birthdays and potentially especially important midian holidays. It was one of the unfortunate realities of growing up in a traditional family such as theirs. "What's a Christmas?" She was given the briefest of explanations before the doors to the guild hall would be thrown wide open as a merry looking Mura would walk through. Her orange furred ears twitched as she spun around and waved towards the guildmaster.

"Ohaiyou, Guildmaster, sir!" she smiled while Mura would ask her to come out to the festival outside. Was this like some sort of secret mission?! She didn't want to leave Mura all high and dry! "Wow! Sure, let's go!~" The child ran towards the guildmaster and hopped down the stairs outside, where the people and events would be in high spirits. Kumi would scatter off in search of fun and food before spinning around to Mura with a single question. "Oh, Guildmaster, sir? What's Christmas? And where are the peppermints? And food?"

Ah, there she was. It appeared that Mura’s worry was right; Kumi-chan was too much of a workaholic and needed a break. Well, good for her that Christmas was literally right around the corner - voices of people’s jingling bells could still be heard echoing through the guild’s walls. “Ohaiyou,” he greeted her back with a soft wave, watching Kumi-chan’s ears twitch in curiosity and get lost in all the chatters, fun and dishes laid out for visitors in this merry hour. It would take a solid minute before she finally reached him, in which she confirmed another worry of his - her obliviousness to the holiday itself. Just like himself back then, she hadn’t celebrated Christmas before, and the shaman could already sense disbelieving eyes from some of the visitors who overheard her.

Just by glaring back at them did Mura make the message clear - it wasn’t any of their business whether she celebrated Christmas before or not. More importantly, they shouldn’t try and bully his cute, little guildmate - otherwise, he would lose his cool demeanor.

“It’s a holiday, Kumi-chan… y’know, let’s just go outside and see for ourselves. There’s food everywhere, and I heard that they have contests and such,” he quickly informed her. There wasn’t much he wanted to explain to her with words, but there was a lot to show her as he grabbed her hand and lead her right out to Dragonbane Avenue, the old road that crossed the town where Fairy Tail had its base.

“W-Wait, Mura! Mura! Look, those trees! They’re back!” Kyuken screamed in horror at the sight of the nail trees with their sharp, thinned leaves, classic to the holiday. Kyuken had grown fearful of them, for they looked like barbed wire trees in a way - who on earth would want them inside their homes as decorations when they looked like they could prick your eyes out?

And would ya look at that, a bunch of unfinished Christmas trees like those were lined up on the street. It appeared that people were given boxes to decorate them, and there was a stage for the top 3 winners. Next to said stage was an announcer with a lac mic who proclaimed: “Merry Christmas, everyone! Hope the red, green and white spirit pleases you well in this fine winter! Eat, drink and ready your gifts up for all the young boys and girls who are waiting at home, but if you’re feeling bored right now, why don’t ya try out and decorate your very own Christmas tree! It might be a hassle, but giving is key here and now, and we will joyously reward the prettiest Christmas tree on stage!”

Groups of people had gathered around some trees, and they were handed boxes which were going to be the required accessories to participate. Mura cupped his chin and then spoke: “Kumi-chan, have you ever decorated a tree before? They do that for this holiday, and they keep wrapped-up gifts underneath it. Come, I’ll show you.” He would approach one of the trees and catch the attention of the announcer, whose jaw almost dropped.

“What a sudden convenience! Our fabled guild’s fabled Wizards have just joined! Do they have what it takes to prepare the perfect Christmas tree, perhaps?”

“We just hang things up on the tree, right? Oh, Kumi-chan, there’s a box over there - let’s check what’s inside,” Kyuken commented before floating over to the golden kitsune to see what their box had in store for them.

    MY STORY IS JUST BEGINNING
Her yellow tails swayed in all directions as the girl's head would swivel around like a cat who was ever so eagerly searching for some kind of stimulation to seek her answers from. The myriad of lights and falling snow was enough to capture the girl's interest away from the crowd of people who had come to look down at her many questions about the season. She was somewhat distracted to really pay attention to any of their concealed opinions about her preferences with the holidays. Her smaller hand would lie comfortably in Mura's, squeezing as her tails bobbed along. "Wow, everything's all cold and snowy. I've never seen Midi like this. Usually it's all plain." The youth commented up until Kyuken, the ever eccentric and possibly perverted samurai spirit had been screaming about some of the trees nearby or other. Her head turned to face the onslaught of trees and Kyun's evident bed wetting fear towards their leafy brethren. She shot the guild master of Fairy Tail a confused look while trying to gently coax the spirit out of his terrified gaze. "What's wrong, Kyuken? Did a tree say something bad about you?" Regardless of his answer,  the barren and snow covered trees of Magnolia would be lit up, with some being surrounded by eager festive dwellers with boxes full of decorations to be hung up. Kumi watched with a great interest as a woman would climb the stage and welcome all the festival attendees, carrying with her some kind of strange wireless microphone of some kind. So they were dressing up trees? Was it because they were naked? If you were supposed to dress up all trees, then how come the trees in the forests weren't done up the same way? This Christmas thing seemed very confusing, but Kumiko would see it through so Mura and Kyuken would be super proud of her!

"We can do it!" Kumiko said, puffing her chest out proud with her five tails brushing against one another as she followed Mura up towards one of the trees. The announcer was surprised like always, mostly on the account of the guild master of Fairy Tail (and beyond what Kumi knew, one of the Saints) would participate in the festivities. The younger mage stood besides while gazing up at the tree to see what work they had cut out for them. She retrieved one of the many boxes that had ornaments and lights inside. Or at least that's what the two would assume would be inside of their box. Instead, a mass of broken decorations awaited them inside. The lights were hopelessly tangled, ornaments broken with the best looking ones housing some pretty nasty looking cracks. "Hey, no fair. Everything's broken." Kumiko pouted, holding the box for Mura to see and then the presenter in a huff. She offered a sorrowful shrug but motioned for the child and Mura to begin. Although her mood have been altered somewhat, the young wizard of Fairy Tail must continue onwards for the tree decorations! She raced along the tree with Mura and Kyuken, placing what lights she could on trees, dishing out some shoddy ornaments and looking back to them for approval. Sure this tree looked about as dapper as a dumpster sock, but that wasn't the point of the season...or something. When Kumi finished, she spun back around for the presenter to judge their worth. "Well...Uh, it's a tree with lights at least." She chuckled to herself, diving into her pocket and dug out three peppermints for the girl. "It might not be first place, but here's a complimentary prize, our ever gracious protectors~"

Excited about her (somewhat) victory, the kitsune kid accepted the treats and spun around to the next thing that stuck out in her mind: this time being a small stand surrounded by a small crowd of people as a podium in the middle would be raised for the person standing to see over the crowd. On there currently, a young girl about Kumiko's (apparent) age would be singing. As she finished, the crowd erupted into applause as Kumiko herself would bound towards the stage as the other girl would exit. Once on top, the tailed girl would reach the podium and find a little booklet of lyrics in a song. Kumiko flipped to a random page and cleared her throat as she began to sing.

"Uh, We wish you a merry Christmas! We wish you a merry Christmas. We wish you a merry Christmas, and a happy new year!"

Kyuken’s eyes dropped in disdain at the sight of the contents of the box that he and Kumiko had brought back to their Christmas tree. It was full of… broken shit. The lights looked barely functionable, cracks were on all the items, and dust caused even the ghost’s nose to twitch. This was a joke, right? Were they supposed to decorate a Christmas tree with this? And how the hell were they going to win such a contest? This felt like such a rigged situation, so while Kumiko was softly pouting in response as a testament of her vixen nature, Kyuken’s eyes dangled out of his auric skull with anger at the box.

“Oi Mura, try and decorate that devilish tree with this broken junk! What kind of contest delivers broken items to decorate a Christmas tree?! This makes no sense at all! Is it because we’re famous?! Do they just want to make fun of us or somethi-” Kyuken complained like an old Karen, his voice reaching Mura like hearing your neighbor shout at someone through the walls of your own house. Kumiko, however, took the initiative and already began to fill the tree up with garments from the box, to which Mura sighed and joined her in swinging garlands around its branches, placing the cracked lights up - hopefully, they wouldn’t light the tree in fire - put some Christmas socks up for good-old Santa Claus to place some delicate candies in as well as an old teddy bear that had been scratched open by a cat as the topping of the Christmas tree - y’know, where the star was supposed to be.

While they didn’t win the contest, Kumiko still received some peppermints from the announcer. Mura spaced out for a second as she and Kyuken approached another stage further ahead of Dragonbane Avenue; his breath… while it was cold and all, given the season and the falling of small particles of snow, Mura felt like his lungs suddenly and rapidly took in colder and colder air. His skin felt it too… a stinging, terrible cold. He was wearing a coat, though, so why was he this co-

    !

It felt like a kick to his face. A surge of something that he recognized oh too well… a ghastly power lingering around him. It had strings of magic tied to it, but there was definitely a ghast lurking nearby which caused this strange phenomenon. Mura looked around him, seeing the other civilians feel their breaths grow steamier due to the decrease in temperature. This was so strange that more than just a few noticed it and began speculating about the weird weather.

Unsheathing Harusame, Mura called: “Z-Zirc-c-conis, now…!” and beckoned the dragon spirit to enter his ninjaken, so that he could strike the entity in front of him. He managed to charge Zirconis’ soul into the blade in the matter of a flash, and just as quickly did he draw a first strike at the black ghast without a proper, solid form in front of him. However, it managed to evade his attack due to the cold infringing his movement, and he would’ve followed up with a spell to warm himself and the others up if not for the out-of-nowhere imagery that his eyes deceived him with…

    L-Lucie?

That small, white-haired maiden was definitely Lucie as Mura remembered her. She simply stood there, right in front of him… her blood-red eyes darting into his very being with a sense of shame. She then turned around and walked away from him, while he felt the urge to reach out to her with his hand - he quickly noticed how the cold grew out of his fingers and palm, encasing his hand and arm in a thin layer of freezing ice.

The others around him were starting to freeze up just like him… noooo! Not them! Not them! NOT THEM!
