May the bridges I burn light the way.

Oshibana—a small, friendly town just a little southwest of the settlements of Mt. Hakobe, so in a way, the two Errings Rising boys weren't far from home. Ever since their tedious task of cleaning the castle, both Julius and Juuya seemed to be destined to work together even further after their impeccable and yet questionable work on the castle's cleanliness. Most of that was probably Julius's doing, but the result at least proved that Juuya could be a melder or smelter if all else fails.

It had only been a very short amount of time since Juuya had joined Errings Rising's ranks, and one of the first things he did when he joined was... nothing. In fact, he left right away once he got that infamous stamp, and scurried off to explore years of a culture he missed out on due to troubling circumstances. He had a blast, needless to say, discovering his new favorite thing—bubble tea—and even got his scorched little hands on something of a sugar daddy while he was at it. But bubble tea and the Orio weren't going anywhere, so it was now time that he reeled himself back in on his original path and finally settle in on his role here in the guild.

"Ehhh... so this is Oshibana, huh? I knew exactly what to expect, but I'd be lying if I said I still wasn't a little bummed out that there isn't anything exciting goin' on 'round here," droned Juuya, ruffling his messy, inky black hair as he stepped through a portal a little taller and wider than himself. That rift in space was the simple work of a teleportation lacrima which, like many other magical means, eliminated the need for other forms of transportation nowadays. Easily enough, both Juuya and Julius would find themselves stepping from one part of Fiore, miles away, into Oshibana territory. "But this isn't the edge of town, is it?"

Oshibana, a quaint little town of railroads and peace. As reasonable and out of the way a place to have an under the radar meet up as Julius could ask for. Which begged the question of why more than one guild member was required. Not that Julius minded too terribly working with the snarky but pleasant enough Juuya again. It just did not seem to make much sense to him to send more than one person for a simple contact meetup. Despite the oddity, Julius was always one to attempt to make the best out of a nonsensical situation. With two of them on the job, he could simply go as someone other than himself. After all, every opportunity to gather information and connections without implicating himself was a beautiful opportunity indeed.

As such, shortly after he met up with Juuya he had begun his transformation spell. This time it had been....painful, but such was the price Julius paid to become a different person in truth rather than just appearance. When all the pain was said and done he went from standing a few inches shorter and about twenty pounds lighter than Juuya, to towering over him by at least a foot and a hundred pounds of muscle and tattoos. Inconspicuous? No, but with Juuya along they never would have been no matter how bland Julius had made himself look. This way he imagined many would refuse to look their way out of sheer intimidation. At least it better as unwieldy as this form was despite Julius' lengthy practice in it. At least it felt appropriately strong.

Ducking through the portal in the guild hall Juuya formed with a lacrima, Julius stepped out into the middle of Oshibana with a modicum of wonder. He eyed the portal in awe, pondering if it would ever be possible for him to connect such distant locations. The best he could manage at current was a few hundred feet out. Granted that was generally plenty for his purposes, but there was still much and more to be said about being able to travel multiple cities in distance all at once. Definitely something for him to work towards as he gained more magical power.

Glancing about, at the behest of Juuya's questioning, the beady eyes of Julius new form told him that no, this was not in fact the edge of town. It was the middle of a street, and was...suspiciously empty. Scanning the street, Julius could not find a single person moving about. Odd, even for a relatively quiet town. Just then, Julius picked up a bit of motion from a rooftop nearby and he realized things were about to become far more troublesome than a simple contact mission. "Down!" he yelled out to Juuya as he stepped in front of him. There was a sudden echoing thrum over the open street and a blur of an object slammed into Julius' right shoulder.

He let out a breathy gasp as he looked at the object and found a fletched arrow a solid few inches into his body. Shock had taken hold swiftly thankfully, otherwise he imagined he would have very little reasoning left to him. If that had hit Juuya instead... well his face was just about at shoulder height in this form. Julius' eyes trained on to the rooftop in question and with a gesture of one hand, he tore open a portal near the crouched form. Doing the same near himself, he reached through with as much swiftness as he could muster, and ripped the man through the portal and down to the street with them by his throat. A plain old bow clattered to the cobbled street as the man struggled to remove Julius' fingers from his windpipe.

Turning to Juuya, Julius held out the form of their ambusher. "Seems someone does not want us to meet our contact. Might not be the only one. What do you think we should do with him?" The man struggled uselessly, punching at Julius' forearm. Julius made no effort to squeeze, so the man remained conscious and able to breathe, albeit in an uncomfortably labored manner. As a bit of the pain of his injured shoulder registered, Julius winced. He would normally just kill the man, but that would rather soundly defeat the purpose of looking like Juuya's hired muscle.

Well, if Juli's aim was big, bad, and menacing, then he got the look down, alright. He was a little envious that he could change his appearance so casually, seeing that the most Juuya usually did was throw on a face mask and a hoodie, but his scars were so profound that he would draw attention regardless of what he wore. Maybe a little too much attention, for that matter

Not even a minute had passed since the two of them stepped foot out of the portal into what felt like a ghost town that someone had decided to greet them with a deadly shot of an arrow. Juuya didn't notice the impending danger until Julius had yelled at him to go down, stepping in front of him and letting the arrow lodged into his shoulder. This was probably something that should've been taken seriously, but it wasn't like Julius was dead. Hell, he even managed to catch the guy who did it and reel him in like a feisty little fish. Smiling, Juuya erected his back and gave Julius a pat on the shoulder that wasn't lodged with an arrow right now.

"Aw, Juli, you shouldn't have! You like me that much?" Juuya smiled, continuing to pat his partner's shoulder before his turquoise eyes floated over to the little fish that he had caught, squirming in Julius's grasp, unable to free himself. Judging by how this all unfolded, he probably knew that they were there to meet someone, but how? Was there a network of information keeping tabs on their movements? "Hey, who are you?" the inky-haired man asked, leaning next to their captured archer with an inquisitive, narrow look in his eyes. You could kill the cow for beef after you've milked it dry, after all.

A twinge of pain spread through Julius as Juuya gave him a pat on the good shoulder. Julius could only imagine what the feeling would be like had that been the bad one... Putting that out of his mind for the time being, he gave Juuya his best "sadistic flunky" smirk and loosened his grip on the archer's throat so he could answer their questions. The man let out several raspy coughs and wild inhalations as he filled his lungs with as much oxygen as he could. Julius found it rather over dramatic, as he was fairly sure he had not held the man particularly tight. He should consider himself lucky Julius had not simply crushed his throat like a paper cup.

The man's relieved expression spoke to his realization of this fact. After a short moment of what appeared to be contemplation, he managed to sputter out a few short sentences in a rushed manner. "Dun know nothin', man. Guy comes up to me yesterday. Hands me a bag a' money and a building location. Says kill whoever shows up today and I'll have enough to last my whole life. Never seen him before, ain't seem him since. I swear!" His eyes flitted back and forth between both Julius and Juuya, some inkling of hope that they would spare him now that he had talked. Julius cast another questioning glance to Juuya.
