Finally, finally, finally! Finally, Asher, white hair messy as always, bare feet stained brown and green from dirt and grass, family armour gleaming and red eyes brighter than usual, got to leave. He gets to finally fulfill his dream of seeing the lands his grandfather and the village elders talked about, and from the few books he read with vigor. The wind blows clear and sweet smelling as he looks over a vast plain for the first time in his life was his blue cape whips behind him and the young man grins. Wide and wilds with animals and monsters dotting it from his hillside position, though not as flat as the eastern plains as Grandfather had told Asher-.
And the smile vanished as the face of Asher’s late grandfather flashed through his mind and the light in his eyes dimmed a little and suddenly the wind felt more like howling loneliness and loss than a glorious gale. But the moment passed and the young man squared his shoulders, a look of determination on his face. Clutching the letter to the mysterious person in the guild Sabertooth that his grandfather wanted him to meet, Asher set off to the guild hometown with purpose.
Three days later, standing in the middle of a decrepit village in a snowy tundra now, Asher looks around with confusion. This didn’t look like what he described as a human city, heck this wasn’t even as big as his old village. After a bit of investigation Asher found the place very abandoned and wondered what drove the people away from this place. Maybe it was the cold? He continued his journey.
Four days later and yet to meet another human being has Asher stands in bewilderment in the middle of a wild jungle. While he liked the wildness of the place, he was starting to feel a bit lonely. But he didn’t think he was lost yet.
“I’m lost!” Asher wails to the empty, cloudless sky in the middle of a dessert five days later. He falls to his back, causing sand to billow around him. He was beginning to think that all the stories he was told were just that, stories and the world other than the village that hated him was the only place in the world with more people and he was doomed to die alone. Ok no, he didn’t think that, but he sure was starting to get discouraged. How was he going to find the Ace of Spades, let alone Sabertooth, if he couldn’t find a single other person to ask for directions?! The throws an arm over his head with a groan. His situation sucked.
Suddenly a shadow dropped over him. “Sir are you okay? Are you suffering from heatstroke?” The figure, darkened by the sun behind him, asks Asher. A giant grin comes to the young man face and his leaps to his feet. “A person! Finally!!” He yells in joy and hugs the startled man. The man yells in surprise but calms down as he hears Asher babble about his situation.
“The Ace of Spades you say? Yes, yes I can give you directions.” The rather bookish looking man says with a friendly look. He waves off Ashers word of gratitude and says “No worries at all! Actually, you’re a mage, right? On your way would you like to do a job for me?” Asher easily agrees and the man grins. “Wonderful! I’m Guy Stratus! Glad to have you aboard!” Guy said and leads an excited Asher to his next adventure.
