History: Jade’s history is rather straightforward. He grew up in a good home with his caring parents, Rose and Silva Karik, his older brother, and his oldest sister. Jade graduated primary education at 17 years old without conflict and immediately began studying to become a mage afterwards. Under the care of a family friend, Jade learned supportive magic arts and the basics of self-defense. For three years, Jade studied under this friend and adopted his techniques until the man deemed Jade ready to become a mage of his own. Jade’s focus on the support role earned him the nickname “Bulwark,” courtesy of his family friend.

Personality: Jade Karik is a very social person, but leans more towards being an introvert. He appreciates being around people but values privacy just as much and will often separate himself from others to self-reflect. Jade is a little clueless even if his heart is in the right place. When it comes to talking to people, he takes things too literally and will often miss sarcasm or more subtle humor. He has yet to learn how to read between the lines and take a hint.

Jade’s parents raised him to have a strong and strict moral compass, valuing it over everything else. They taught him simple rules to follow, straightforward ones such as: protect people in harm’s way, always be kind, don’t be selfish etc. Jade adhered to this set of rules very closely for the majority of his life thanks to his parents. Even as he reached adulthood, his morals had survived every time they were tested. He believed in them without a shadow of a doubt.

In combat, Jade works best when cooperating with other mages that are more offense-oriented. His role is that of a tank/supporter: draw as much attention from the opposing force as possible and give his allies as many opportunities to attack as he can. While defending, he will often point out the targets that pose the biggest threat and focus on breaking their defense. His combat philosophy can be summarized as such: “Identify and prioritize threats, protect and shield allies, and efficiently communicate important info.”

Jade “Bulwark” Karik is no natural born leader, and would rather follow orders rather than give them, but he is by no means incapable of taking charge. Should the need arise, he can competently command up to a group of six people in battle. As a leader, he prioritizes the well being of the party members over anything else, sometimes even sacrificing the job in order to prevent any casualties.

When under a leader, Jade follows orders to a T… unless it violates his own personal moral code. Depending on the severity of the order, Jade may reluctantly follow an order that is crucial to the job. More often than not however, Jade will refuse to follow the conflicting order.

Regardless of how heated an argument gets, often because of Jade’s refusal to follow orders, Jade does not raise his voice and becomes rather passive when people are upset with him. Not so much because he doesn’t care, but more so because he doesn’t like arguing. Essentially, he is trying to avoid verbal conflict where he can because he doesn’t like disappointing people.

Likes:

• Libraries - Jade’s favorite pastime is to read for recreation and for mage studies. Visiting the library gives him an opportunity to learn and self-reflect.
  
• Home-Cooked Meals - Something about food being made at home makes it taste so much better.
  
• Gratitude - Jade thrives off of people’s recognition. Having his deeds appreciated makes his goals worth the effort.
  

Dislikes:

• Candies and Other Sweets - Jade doesn’t have that much of a sweet tooth. Too much sugar upsets his stomach.
  
• Confined Spaces - Claustrophobia. Jade doesn’t know how he formed it, but he’s had it ever since he could remember.
  
• Class Clowns - Ironically, people who make jokes solely for other people’s laughter get on Jade’s nerves.
  

Motivations:

• Building a Family - Finding love, settling down, having children, the whole shebang. Jade wants to be a good father and a good husband in the future.
  
• Acquiring a Stable Career - At such a young age, a man just wants to make sure he can put food on the table. Jade hopes a guild may give him that opportunity.

• Losing His Family - His parents and his siblings help him grow into who he is today and still guide him when he has questions. Losing the ones he loves would crush him.
