Protecting Morals [Job-Pivoine] Empty Protecting Morals [Job-Pivoine]

Protecting people was a goal in which Aiden found a fire for. When he joined the Rune Knights, he vowed that he would protect everyone that he could in order to one day, hopefully make a more peaceful world, one without corruption and evil. This goal was why he found himself in Hargeon town today.

A few hours earlier he had gotten a report that a major slave trader was going to be making a departure from Fiore tonight with a large group of slaves. Before leaving the Rune Knight base however, he learned as much as he could about the event and learned that it would take place in the middle of the night at the dock in the farthest reaches of town.

He got to his destination at around the right time as the sun was setting so he immediately started to head for the docks as soon as he reached the entrance to the town. While he was walking, he tried to form a plan of action. In his mind, he would only be dealing with a simple slave trader and maybe one or two subordinates, but little did he know, it would probably be much more than just that.

He decided that it was best to stay on the lookout and scope out the area first. The current time was around eleven o’clock at night, so it was easier for him to hide in a dark alley near the docks, keeping them just in eyesight so he could see what was happening.

As he quietly stood out of sight, he carefully scanned the docks for any signs of slaves or mischief, fully staying focused on the area in front of him. The only thing that he could see at this moment in time being a large ship, seemingly waiting to be boarded.

    PIVOINE
    C-rank || Dies Irae || 0327 words || 0633 total

Pivione hid behind a stack of cargo boxes at the docks. Her Dies Irae uniform would stand out too much, and while she doubted the slavers would change their location because of a single mage, she couldn’t be too cautious in this situation. At this point, Pivoine was store from hiding behind boxes, cold from the damp at the docks, and impatient to get started on this job. From what she understood, there should be another mage from the Rune Knights there as well. She supposed that neither guild could really let this go unchecked. As far as evil went, slaving and kidnapping were both pretty high up on the list.

Spotting Aiden, Pivione coughed once into her hand and tried to beckon the other mage over to her location with a subtle wave of her hand from behind the boxes. Hopefully he would see and head on over, because Pivoine wasn’t about to abandon such a choice hiding place! A lady, out on her own at night in this part of town and in Fiore would turn a few heads. Add a Dies Irae uniform to that, and it would paint a giant target on Pivoine’s back.

Of course she was also petite. And her doll-like eyes might make her seem a choice kidnapping target as well. Although, that would probably go poorly in the long run. Everyone at the guild knew Pivoine was on this specific job, and a few of the more gung-ho members of Dies Irae were probably hoping Pivione DID get kidnapped—just so they would have an excuse to run in with their giant axes, kick down a few doors, and go straight to administering the Pain Train.

    Ugh.

Some people just didn’t understand the meaning of ‘subtlety.’ If Pivoine went in, metaphorical guns blazing, they might miss out on the chance to really track this slavery thing to its source. And a lady couldn’t allow such a thing to happen.

Aiden's head snapped at the sound of Pivoines cough, almost as if he was a bird finding it's prey. His eyes narrowed to see the figure of a girl beckoning to him from behind some boxes. He was confused at first. Why would a girl with such a seemingly small frame be doing running around town in the middle of the night. He nodded to her and proceeded to sneak his way over to her location in a hurried state.

When he got there, he had full intention of telling her to go home as it was dangerous but when he got close enough to see the Dies Irae uniform, he was reminded that he would be meeting up with a partner this mission. He was so focused on the mission that he forgot that he was supposed to be meeting someone. His face went a little red with embarrassment and he tilted in head slightly towards the ground "Sorry I didn't get to contact you sooner... I got a little caught up in the mission." he whispered quietly as he made his way behind the boxes, crouching down next to her behind them before peering back out at the docks, his face still a little red with shyness.

"I have been here for a couple minutes now and haven't seen anything happening yet aside from that large ship that's been docked over there." he pointed at the large pirate-like ship. His eyes grew wide as he realized he had forgot to introduce himself so he turned to the girl again "Oh! By the way, I'm Aiden, one of the newer Rune Knights." He gave her a shy smile as he barely made eye contact with her.

It was obvious that Aiden was still a very youthful and young soldier, almost seeming innocent in a way. He was not very good in social situations no matter how hard he always tries to be, always stumbling over his words when he spoke and him being a very soft spoken person did not help his case at all.

Extending a soft, slightly shaky hand to her, he spoke again "I- It's nice to meet you."

Pivoine nodded as Aiden joined her in the hiding place.

“It’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance. My name is Pivoine Corbeau. I’m also a new recruit, so we can do our best together,” Pivoine smiled as she shook Aiden’s hand.

Aiden’s shyness was oddly nostalgic for Pivoine. This was the way she was used to boys and men acting, especially around a woman they didn’t know. Honestly, Pivoine thought it was cute, and it made her feel slightly more confident. This was a kind of person that she knew how to interact with. Don’t worry, Aiden! Pivoine was there to help out. So there was much less to worry about!

“That ship does seem pretty suspicious. They probably are waiting until no one else is around before they do anything. Do you know if they saw you? I’m not sure of any particular plan, and was just going to wait until they disembarked. What about you?” Pivoine asked.

Maybe she sounded like she was grilling Aiden. The lady did her best to keep her voice quiet and friendly, so she didn’t spook the other mage. They essentially had two options: either get onto the boat in some way and then wrest control of it from the slavers, or wait until the slavers went to land in order to go through with their deal. Truth be told, the former didn’t sound like a good option to Pivoine. With no other boats in the harbor, there wasn’t any good place for them to hide at all. Likely, they’d be spotted long before they got to their destination. Then the slavers would all have time to prepare. Not a good idea at all. Unless Aiden could fly. Then they might be able to use the clouds as cover. But, that was a pretty big ‘if.’

In truth, Pivoine was also relieved to be working with another mage again. Her magic was best used to bolster others, so she liked working in a team.

Aiden nodded gently and gave a warm smile at Pivoine’s words of encouragement.

He listened to her ask him if they saw him and he shook his head “I don’t think so… I hope not anyway...” He muttered the end of his sentence under his breath. He was sure they didn’t, he wouldn’t make a mistake like that as he usually analyzes his area before he makes a move.

He thought about how they would get on the boat without being seen. The thought of using his magic to fly crossed his mind but the flames from that would expose their location like a beacon in the darkness of the night, so that plan wouldn’t work either. His next plan of action would be too run in with force and take the ship before the slaver got there to load on the slaves, but that plan wouldn’t be too smart because he didn’t know who his enemy was at this point in time. His only option was to wait it out until the deal had already started and then work from there.

A few moments pass and Aiden’s eyes catch on a shimmering light walking down a nearby alley.

A group of slavers appeared walking out of the shadows, each carrying ropes with multiple people bound to them, their mouths bound shut so they wouldn’t make too much noise. Aiden looked at the group of slaves, some looking like they were in good condition while others looked a bit worse for wear and were beaten up and bruised. This angered the young Knight deeply. He clenched his fist a little bit and bit his tongue to stop himself from getting too riled up.

Out of the boat walked two people, a slimmer man with weapons that looked like they had been used a lot and a red-haired woman with two guns at her side. The lady approached the biggest slaver and they talked for a bit, exchanging words that Aiden was too far away from to make out. The lady picked half of the slaves and walked inside the boat, followed by the muscular slaver and the slimmer man.

During all of this more action started to happen as larger group of people were assigned to guard the docks around the ship and make sure no one interfered. Next to the ship was where they were keeping the slaves waiting to be loaded on.

Aiden turned his head to Pivoine, now a bit calmer since he was in work mode. “I say we go out there and deal with this group of people while the bigger guys are inside.” He whispered, eyeing each slaver out there and noticing that they all looked rather small or weak.

Pivoine nodded in agreement. Yes, it seemed prudent to thin the ranks a bit before anyone else got out. Also, if they cleared the area, it might draw enough attention for the higher-ranked slavers to come out.

“That’s a good idea. Let’s take care of them quickly,” Pivoine said.

Pivione used the shadows to mask her approach to the area, dashing between hiding places here and there on the docks. Unfortunately, there were fewer and fewer places to hide as the lady continued on. She assumed Aiden would follow. After all, it was either follow Pivoine or be left at the hiding place. The later wasn’t such a great option.

The lady arrived on the scene, red uniform skirt whirling from her movement. One of the slaver initiates opened their mouths and shouted, “It’s Dies Irae!” Another shouted back “It’s just one person! Get her!”

A bullet grazed Pivoine’s shoulder in a burning blaze. She winced, but snapped open her fan and targeted the gunner. They had to go, and fast. Another bullet grazed Pivione’s ankle. Another warning shot. They could no doubt aim better, but were giving Pivoine a reason to lay down her arms with their show of power.

“Surrender, lass. We’ll let you live because your pretty face will fetch a fine price,” the red-head said.

Pivoine’s mouth pinched into a fine line. Not a chance. Another fan snap and Pivoine pivoted into one of her attack stances with a series of jabbing movements with the fan.

    The Greedy Egret
She may strike at many frogs
    And still, eat nothing

A spearlike font of white and black light raced towards the gun and sword using slavers, stabbing at them with birdlike movements and then sending them into the water with twin splashes.

A series of gulps and backsteps rippled across the initiates like a stone thrown into a pond. They hadn’t exactly been expecting a B-Rank spell from someone Pivione’s size. Or from her appearance. Many of them had figured Pivione to be a complete newbie, even if she was from Dies Irae. This might be a bit above their pay grade…

“Tell me, young man. Has my price gone up or down?” Pivoine asked.

Post by Aiden Ainsley 2nd June 2020, 4:07 pm

    2107-46.jpg

Seeing Pivoine run off in one direction caused Aiden to get an idea. After looking around he saw that on the other side of the slavers was an empty area. While Pivoine took a head on route, Aiden decided he would use her strategy to his advantage and create a pincer attack, attacking them from behind.

Instead of following his would split off and duck behind the many boxes and crates that decorated the harbor. He noticed that as he got closer to the boats though , the boxes thinned out. He waited until the slavers attention was on Pivoine before emerging from behind a box and approached the scene closer.

“Make that two…” he muttered as he opened his hand in front of him. Whips of flames and electricity flew through the air over the group of four bigger slavers that were guarding the ship directly “Feel the warmth of the sun… and be forgiven…” he whispered to himself. The slavers looked up and started to back away of the spheres of the suns pure energy started to form above them into five meteors. “Solar Meteor!” he cried out, closing his hand. As he did this, the meteors would fly down onto his opponents quickly, blasting them into the water beside the boat.

He looked over at Pivoine who had been fighting off the initiates, he hopped off the box and walked over. Upon seeing Pivoines spell, the guards seemed rather to be ready to surrender and when they saw a Rune Knight approaching, they knew that their fight was done. Starting to detain the initiates, Aiden would try his hardest to look like a soldier and would lecture them. “Y-You people should be ashamed!” he raised his voice in a slightly shaky tone.

He took a minute or two putting restraints on the initiates, pulling the slavers out of the water and sitting them all down at the end of the dock, away from the boat. One of the initiates looked at him with worried eyes “What’s going to happen to us sir?” one of the many initiates asked him. The other initiates would mutter in worried agreement. Upon hearing the question though Aiden gave a bit of a nod to them “You will be taken to… Taken to the proper holding facilities…” he said as he turned his attention to Pivoine.

“Are you okay?” he asked. He would wait for a response before turning to the boat “They should have heard the commotion from out here. My guess is that they are getting ready to send out some more of the slavers.” He sat down onto a crate and kept his eyes on the boat for any more figures emerging. While he waited though he would try to make conversation “Back there… Uhm... You asked if your price had gone up or down. W-Was that a phrase or… or is there experience…” he struggled to get his words out as the question implied something very heavy and he wasn’t sure if Pivoine would be okay with him trying to pry, even though it might not have been anything.

Pivione smiled, covering her mouth with her fan as the slaver initiates began sulking around the dock. At this point, it would just make it harder for them if they ran. No doubt, the mages would probably take out their frustration on the initiates if they had to track them down all over again.

“I’ll be fine. I was just referring to what they said earlier. You need not worry about it, Aiden,” She said.

“Who dares to screw around with our business?!” A voice yelled from the ship. With a loud ‘thunk’ a large man with a shaved head and several facial scars landed on the docks.

Pivoine narrowed her eyes at the veteran slaver. Of course he didn’t care about his comrades. All he cared about was the transaction being interrupted. Really, these people were the lowest scum. The lady paused. This guy was definitely stronger than the last bunch. It would be inadvisable to extend the fight for too long. No. Neither she or Aiden were good at hand to hand combat and it wouldn’t really do to play around when there was a cutlass to deal with. She snapped her fan and shifted into a different stance. Then, she whirled the fan in controlled circles, casting a luminous jade-green aura around both Aiden and herself.

    Oh, my stern tutor,
Your words may sting like brambles,
    Always, for my sake.

That should help move things along. It would increase both of their attack powers, and would definitely help deal with the veteran quicker.

The large man charged forward at both mages. The way he saw it, neither the Dies Irae or Rune Knight member looked like they had much stamina. Even if they got the drop on the earlier crew members, they likely wouldn’t be able to handle someone with actual combat experience. He’d make short work of them before the top boss got too impatient.

Pivoine winced as saltwater blades sliced at her, taking a step backward. Not a real issue, even though it stung horribly.

Protecting Morals [Job-Pivoine] Empty Re: Protecting Morals [Job-Pivoine]

Post by Aiden Ainsley 17th June 2020, 1:44 pm

    2107-46.jpg

Aiden stared at Pivoine for a second, unsure whether to take her remark about him worrying about it as the truth or if there was something more. It wasn’t his place to pry though and it was something he felt rather uncomfortable talking about in general so he would leave it there for now. The voice that appeared from the deck of this ship did catch his attention however as it slammed down onto the dock, yelling about his business being messed with.

The size of this man caused Aiden to become a bit more cautious and frightened. The boy was not good at fighting, this being the second time he had ever actually been in a fight. The only reason he was able to subdue the smaller slavers so easily was because he was able to get a surprise attack on them but that would not be the case for this one.

Pivoine decided to make the first move and use an ability which encased him in a green glow. He didn’t exactly know what the skill did or what it was, but he felt a stronger and in turn, a tad bit more confident in his ability.

The man started to charge towards them in a bullish manner which made Aiden want to chuckle. This man truly lacked brains if he was going to go forwards with a head on attack like that. It was true the slaver was bigger than both of them combined but it was still a two against one fight at this point. Aiden usually wasn’t one to question someone’s tactics or make fun of anyone, but this man was just stupid.

The Slaver slashed at the two of them, Aiden being able to jump back with a cut being placed upon his right arm. He would wince and look up at the towering man before them who was smirking, full of confidence that he had just won the fight by placing fear into his enemies. What the enemy didn’t realize is that he was now in close quarters with the boy and his magic worked better if the enemy didn’t have the distance to react quick enough.

Aiden would extent his right palm toward the man, using his left to hold the painful cut. After a second his arm starting to glow, and three rings made of flames and electricity would appear like bracelets across his limb. He would shoot the rings off of his hand and they would unfurl, flying towards the giant. While the rings weren’t necessarily fast, the man was close enough to them that they didn’t have to travel far at all. They hit the man’s neck, torso, and legs and would lock onto them as soon as they hit. As soon as the rings entrapped their opponent they would send an electric shock through his body before disappearing into him, leaving dark red burn marks where the rings were.

Pivoine ran across the docks, so she’d divide attention between Aiden and herself. The veteran slaver might have been much larger than the two mages, but he’d have a more difficult time paying attention to both of them if one of them went to his back. Pivoine slid to a stop on the docks as Aiden attacked. She had also gotten injured from the sword swing. It just didn’t pay to be small and slow in close quarters combat.

A fan snap. Pivoine opened her fan and spun around, making abrupt jerking motions with the unfolded fan as she did so. The Thorny Stem spell did an additional rank of C damage to the Veteran Slaver—who only then seemed to get the idea that he might be outmatched. The dark green aura from the magical thorns faded into the early morning air. All that was left behind from them was a few drops of blood from their sharp barbs and magical bruises and burns from the other attacks. It was outrageous. He was a much stronger, much larger individual than these two mages. He had numerous years under his belt enslaving others. So it was unthinkable that they could actually get the better of him. Just who were these damn kids anyway?

The combined attacks with Pivoine’s damage increase spell were enough to lay the slaver low. He knelt down onto the dock and then passed out from exertion. Pivoine frowned, walking over to Aiden.

“I’ll heal us both. We should be at a good strength before we face anyone else,” she said.

It was true that the Veteran had been able to damage them both. As a B Rank spell, Pivoine’s healing magic should be just enough to cover the damage both of them had taken in the last skirmish.
