PERCIPIENCE OF THE DEEP ATHENEUM
Magic Name: Percipience of the Deep Atheneum
Magic Type: Ancient Solitary [50% to Strength]
Description: This magic gives the user to draw on the powers of the Deep Atheneum, a private space in an Astral Dominion believed to exist on a metaphysical plane from which knowledge is believed to have come. This astral plane, called the Cosmic Abyss is believed to be infinite, as well as dangerous, because dreams are a product of knowledge, and as such nightmares of unspeakable qualities roam parts of these lands. Beira’s attunement to the Deep Atheneum arises from her possession of a particular soul among the nine souls she possesses: the Mindflayer Soul. The Deep Atheneum was revealed to Beira after she purged her mind of the residue of an Old One, Uaggool, worshipped as a mindflayer god. This has given her greater powers over a mental dominion on the Astral, or metaphysical plane, known as the Deep Atheneum, which Beira can manifest on the material plane. The Deep Atheneum takes the form of a beautiful, gigantic library on an island of stone, with countless books in ornate shelves, and held within a bubble in the depths of a strange ocean, which is the Cosmic Abyss. If one tries to read a book in the Deep Atheneum, they will see a documentation of an event in their lives, or intelligible script. Two people reading the same book at the same time will not see the same thing. In the center of the Deep Atheneum is a small table-like dais and a stool, both made of white stone, the same material that makes up the floor, shelves and island of the Deep Atheneum. Passing through the air bubble surrounding the Deep Atheneum will get one into the Cosmic Abyss, which is full of an unnatural water-like substance. Those who enter, and subsequently leave the Cosmic Abyss are curiously wet, though the water of the Cosmic Abyss does not damage nor affect objects susceptible to damage by water. It also evaporates faster than normal water, taking about a minute for someone wetted by the waters of the Cosmic Abyss to dry off. Note that no matter how high, or how far or how deep one swims, one cannot escape the water while in the Cosmic Abyss, and time and space don’t seem to apply their rules in the Cosmic Abyss, and one can go on swimming forever if they cannot find their way out, or end up being devoured by the nightmares lurking the depths. As Beira practically owns the Deep Atheneum, she is considered to be a denizen of the Cosmic Abyss, and inhabitants of the Cosmic Abyss do not attack one another as a rule. As a result, staying with Beira when in the Cosmic Abyss is quite recommended. For the interior of an ocean, the Cosmic Abyss is dimly lighted, and if one looks into the distance, they may seem to see ancient majestic ruins, or terrible unspeakable monstrosities, though the gloom of the undersea makes it very difficult to make details out. Despite the Cosmic Abyss being full of ‘water’, breathing is unhampered, but to move about, one must swim. The Deep Atheneum seems to be the only dry place in the Cosmic Abyss, and it is bright enough to read comfortably in.
Beira’s use of the energies of the Deep Atheneum allow her to utilize three Domains, specific magic portfolios: The Mind Domain, the Knowledge Domain, and the Law Domain.
The Mind Domain covers mental magics and siphoning the energies of the Deep Atheneum into the material plane to yield psionic effects. One may also, using these ‘siphons’, transfer physical materials into the Deep Atheneum, making the Deep Atheneum a nifty personal store. By transferring herself into and out of the Cosmic Abyss via the Deep Atheneum, one can cover vast spaces within the blink of an eye, although the farther the destination, the deeper one must go into the Cosmic Abyss. Time is of no essence here, so it is, in effect, teleportation.
The Knowledge Domain covers the sphere of that which may be known, as well as the collection, interpretation and dissemination of information. A very versatile domain, it can be used to gain information from living and non-living targets, analyze information, and relay information through the senses. What makes this domain particularly useful is that information can be edited, and as such, deception can be wrought.
The Law Domain covers an understanding of the workings of the universe, and the agency by which these laws may be bent. Spells of the Law Domain are usually very specific, and leave little in the way of wiggle space in their execution. Spells of the Law Domain must always be called out for their effects to work, because they are issued commands (in a strange, long-forgotten tongue), and if a command is not issued, obedience cannot be enforced. Their results are often considered reality altering.
Downsides: The Mind Domain spells must be cast with a clear mind. If the caster’s mind is foggy, there is high chance of the spells not yielding the desired results, as creation of the siphons to draw in energy from the Deep Atheneum will not be precisely created, and changeses in siphon qualities can lead to spell failure.
Beira’s attunement to the Knowledge Domain makes her quite knowledgeable at a price: she knows deep and dark secrets which often call unsavoury denizens of the Cosmic Abyss to invade her dreams, giving her periodic and livid nightmares.
The Law Domain is issued via oral commands, and must be said for their effects to be carried out. Gagging a caster is a sure-fire way to prevent spells from the Law Domain from being cast.

Unique Abilities:
- Percipience of The Mind Domain: Allows Beira to call substance from the Deep Atheneum to the material world, as well as call substance from the material world into the Deep Atheneum by means of psionic pathways called Dura (singular: Durum), to result in psionic effects on the target to which she connects her pathways. It also allows her to be more mobile than is naturally possible, allowing her to perform physics-confounding feats like changing momentum and direction in the air multiple times, and although she cannot fly using this, she can easily stop the momentum of a fall from a problematic height. This knowledge of hidden pathways increases Beira’s speed passively by 60%. Also, Beira can summon spectral fire onto her body by which she becomes able to attack spectral, intangible and other objects that normally cannot be touched by material things.
- Percipience of The Knowledge Domain: Allows Beira to share ‘Data’ (singular: Datum), which are transmissions of knowledge that Beira can use to inform herself or her allies. The knowledge given may not always be correct, and can be used to distract, deceive and confuse. Due to this percipience, she is also very intelligent, and knowledgeable in many wide fields, though curiously, she knows little about technology, mostly because it does not interest her. Knowledge of spatial mechanics gives Beira a passive 60% boost to speed. Knowledge of secrets of magic also affords Beira the ability to automatically counter immobilization effects, resulting in her suffering a 50% debuff to base speed instead of complete immobilization.
Plot Mechanic: Attunement to this domain also allows Beira to sense the wills of others, and a rough idea of their intentions. For instance, she can tell if someone feels malevolently towards her, though she cannot say for certain if the person wants to rob or kill her, or just has a petty grudge. She can also determine what someone intends, if the intention is not too complicated. For instance, Beira can determine that someone wants to eat, though she cannot say what the person wishes to eat. PCs and PC-controlled/important NPCs are shielded from this ability, unless OOC permission is gained. - Percipience of The Law Domain: Allows Beira to issue ‘Dicta’ (singular: Dictum), which are commands that attempt to impose Beira’s will on the target. Her knowledge of the Law Domain also gives her an understanding of how some physical laws relating to motion can be bypassed. This gives her a passive 60% boost to speed. Her knowledge of the laws of magic also allow her to defy the reality of magical laws and magical space and use this magic even in places wherein magic is normally not permitted to be used (e.g. she can use her mental magic, even if shackled by anti-magic cuffs, or in null magic and anti-magic dimensions).
Spells
Note: The values are base values, without buffs and debuffs factored in.
- Passive Spells:
Mindflayer Malevolence
Rank: S
Category: Auxiliary
Type: Passive
Description: Possessing a mindflayer’s devious and sadistic soul in her repertoire of nine souls, Beira unwittingly directs the mindflayer’s typical malevolence into her spells as she casts, passively boosting spell damage by 60%.
Indomitable Mind
Rank: S
Category: Auxiliary
Type: Passive
Description: Beira has a very strong will, and this reflects in the force with which her spells are cast, making them mightier and more difficult to resist. This boosts her spell damage by 60%.
Arcane Erudition
Rank: S
Category: Auxiliary
Type: Passive
Description: Beira’s extensive knowledge of the arcane makes her quite familiar with the workings of most spells, and the ability to bypass or dismantle them. This boosts Beira’s spell damage passively by 60%.
- B-Rank Spells:
Datum: Telepathy
Rank: B
MP Cost: 40 MP
Category: Auxiliary, MP Regen
Type: AOE
Damage: N/A
Range: 100 meters
Speed: 50 m/s
Duration: 6 posts
Description: Within the range of this spell, Beira can create a field of communication, in which everyone can simply think what they want others to hear, and others will hear the message directly in their heads, and in the voice of the person who sent the message. Beira can exclude those she wants from the message channel. It is very useful for passing information when silence is necessary. This spell also has the benefit of granting Beira and her allies a 5% boon to MP regeneration as long as the spell is active.
Plot Effect: Beira can use this spell to feed people with thoughts and ideas that will seem to be theirs, and not those of an external influence. Cannot be used on PCs and PC-controlled/important NPCs without OOC permission granted.
- A-Rank Spells:
Datum: Water Moon
Rank: A
MP Cost: 50 MP
Category: Auxiliary, Debuff, Drain
Type: Burst
Damage: N/A
Range: 75 meters
Speed: 75 m/s
Duration: 7 posts
Description: To cast this spell, Beira creates a field which looks like faintly rippling air to someone with magical senses. Within the range of her spell, Beira can create three-dimensional, audio-visual illusions, which have the interesting effect of seeming corporeal because the mind of someone under the illusion persuades the victim of the sensation of touch, although they can in no way be used to cause harm, since they have no actual physical presences. Any selected targets within the range of Beira’s spell will have their magical resistances debuffed by 50%, due to the subconscious disorienting effect of the illusions. They also receive a 5% MP drain.
Datum: Psychic Reave/Psychometry
Rank: A
MP Cost: 50 MP
Category: Offensive, Drain, Debuff
Type: Single Target
Damage: 100 HP + 50%= 150 HP
Range: 300 m/s- 50%= 150 m/s
Speed: 300 m/s - 50%= 150 m/s
Duration: 7 posts
Downside: Sacrificing range and speed by 50% for increase in 50% to damage.
Description: Beira grabs at a target, her hands wreathed with an ominous pale-colored flame that, on contact, causes mental pain by attempting to forcibly tear information from the target’s mind (no information is torn from PCs and PC-controlled/important NPCs without OOC consent), which translates into an instant mind-splitting headache. The target then suffers a 5% drain to HP pool and a 65% debuff to spell durability, due to the migraine they are afflicted with, which makes concentrating to cast more difficult. Beira only has to make contact with the person; it doesn’t have to be skin-to-skin contact. Beira can project the ominous flame on her hands at a single target, though the speed and range of this spell are smaller than is expected.
Plot Mechanic: Beira can perform a harmless version of this spell, Psychometry, on an unconscious or willing target, and thus glean information from their minds. PCs and PC-controlled/important NPCs can only have this used on them with OOC permission. Beira can also use this on items to discover their history; the father back in time she has to see, the longer she must hold the item. It cannot be used on PC-owned items without OOC consent. When touching an item or a person using Psychometry, Beira can learn a skill or a language, although this skill acquisition is quite temporary, and she must practice the skill constantly to truly acquire it.
Datum: Prismatic Spray
Rank: A
MP Cost: 50 MP
Category: Offensive, Debuff, Drain
Type: Burst
Damage: 100 HP
Range: 75 meters
Speed: 75 m/s
Duration: 7 posts
Description: Beira releases an iridescent beam from her hands in a conical form, which she can maintain for two posts. When the beam strikes a target, the target’s mind is overwhelmed with sensory overload, causing terrible mental distress which is physically painful, as well as partially blinding the target, resulting in a 65% debuff to speed for 7 posts. Target's MP pool is also drained by 5% per post for the spell duration. If someone is struck a second time with the Prismatic Spray, it does not reset the debuff’s effect duration. Beira can control the dimensions of the cone, in order to increase or reduce her target range, but to hit a target behind her, she has to turn around, as the greatest angle the cone can expand to is 150 degrees.
Durum: Planeshift
Rank: A
MP Cost: 50 MP
Category: Auxiliary, Buff, Regen
Type: Burst
Damage: N/A
Range: Self
Speed: Self
Duration: 7 posts
Description: Beira can briefly access the Deep Atheneum, and pop out again at another place. This is translated as a teleport to anywhere within her burst range. Due to the mild disorientation of flitting between the Deep Atheneum and the material world so quickly, Beira is only able to do this once per post. Beira can planeshift with others (PCs, PC-controlled NPCs and important NPCs can only be planeshifted with OOC approval). Beira, and anyone who planeshifts with her, will get a 65% boost to speed for the effect’s duration. Also, they get a 5% to MP regeneration per post.
Plot Device: Beira can use the Deep Atheneum to access distant places by entering the Deep Atheneum and swimming out of its confines into the Cosmic Abyss, from which she can create a portal into the material world, and appear in another place on the material plane, provided she has sufficient information about the place. The Cosmic Abyss pervades most dimensions, the material plane included, and distorts space and time laws incredibly. As such, Beira can travel to rather distant places or even dimensions in almost an instantaneous time period. Others can follow Beira into the Deep Atheneum and afterwards the Cosmic Abyss (rules pertaining to PCs, PC-controlled NPCs and important NPCs apply), and thus travel with her. Note that entering the Cosmic Abyss will make one wet, and the feeling that one is being watched by some great evil is pervasive. This feeling does not exist in the Deep Atheneum.
Durum: Psionic Wave
Rank: A
MP Cost: 50 MP
Category: Offensive, Immobilization, Debuff
Type: AOE
Damage: 50 HP
Range: 150 meters
Speed: 75 m/s
Duration: Effect for 7 posts
Description: Beira releases a spherical, expanding telekinetic wave from her head; although invisible, the wave is quite easy to keep track of, as it disrupts the environment considerably. Any target caught within the wave is sent flying (PCs and PC-controlled/important NPCs can choose not to be thrown about, and how far they will fly if they do) and immobilized due to stunning for one post. They also suffer a 65% debuff to speed for 7 posts due to disorientation. Although Beira can prevent allies from being hit by the effects of the spell, anyone who contacts the spell, friend or foe, hears a ringing sound in their ears when the wave hits.
Durum: Fortress of Iron Will
Rank: A
MP Cost: 50 HP
Category: Defensive, Anti-Piercing, Regen
Type: Burst
Durability: 100 HP
Range: 75 meters
Speed: 75 m/s
Duration: 7 posts
Description: Beira creates a transparent but visible bubble around herself (a dome if standing on a flat surface; she can manipulate its size within the range of the spell), which is not particularly durable but negates piercing effects. It also grants a 5% HP regen to anyone within the dome. Beira can allow anyone she chooses in or out of the bubble.
Durum: Kinetic Malice
Rank: A
MP Cost: 50 HP
Category: Offensive, DoT, Drain
Type: Single Target
Damage: 50 HP per post
Range: 300 meters
Speed: 300 m/s
Duration: 5 posts
Description: Beira holds out her hand, and from her hand, a ripple of air races towards a target. She then clenches as the target is hit by the ripple, and the target receives crushing telekinetic damage for 50 HP, which continues per post until damage reaches 250 HP. The target also loses 5% of MP every post for the length of the spell’s duration.
Plot Mechanic: A target struck by the Kinetic Malice can be controlled telekinetically by Beira immediately it is struck, while it receives damage. If she releases the target, she cannot control it unless she uses the spell again, but damage will still continue until the abovementioned damage is reached. Cannot be used on PCs and PC-controlled/important NPCs.
Dictum: Impero! (I Impose!)
Rank: A
MP Cost: 50 MP
Category: Auxiliary, Debuff, Drain
Type: Burst
Damage: 100 HP
Range: 75 meters
Speed: 75 m/s
Duration: 7 posts
Description: Beira calls “Impero!”, and releases a wave of mental energy that feels like a wind. Targets not considered to be Beira’s allies receive a debuff of 65% to their spell damage, as they are intimidated by Beira’s powerful will. They also suffer a 5% drain of their MP per post. Targets with weak wills (exempting PCs and PC-controlled/important NPCs, unless there is OOC consent) find themselves compelled to obey Beira’s every command, although the more the command goes against their values and perceived well-being, the more unwilling they are to carry out the commands.
- S-Rank Spells:
Dictum: Reicio! (I Reject!)
Rank: S
MP Cost: 60 MP
Category: Auxiliary, Negation, Debuff
Type: Burst
Damage: N/A
Range: 100 meters
Speed: 100 m/s
Duration: 10 posts
Description: Beira commands, “Reicio!”, and a ripple of air expands outwards from her, creating an invisible field the size of her spell range. Any effect, whether positive or negative within the field, Beira can choose to cancel, although she must pay the base MP cost of the spell which she is negating to negate it. She can only negate a single spell/effect per post, though she may keep the negation field up for as long as the spell duration permits. Beira can only negate S-ranked spells or lower, as well as effects created by S-ranked spells or lower, with this spell. Enemies in the field also gets a 70% debuff to spell damage for the duration of the spell, due to feelings of rejection they can sense.
Dictum: Inspiro! (I Breathe Upon!)
Rank: S
MP Cost: 60 MP
Category: Offensive, Immobilization, Debuff
Type: Burst
Damage: 120 HP
Range: 100 meters
Speed: 100 m/s
Duration: 10 posts
Description: Beira calls out “Inspiro!” and releases a wave of mental energy, visible as a rapidly expanding light pink transparent bubble. Anyone it touches feels a pleasurable tingling sensation and they get goosebumps. However, those whom Beira is actually targeting with this spell will suddenly experience an intense mixture of pleasure and pain, as their minds are bombarded with not-so-pure thoughts pulled from the target’s own fantasies. It is said that the more chaste a person is, the less effect this spell will have on them, but who can really say? The sensation of pleasure felt is enough to completely stun a target for one post and thus immobilize them, with the target suffering a 5% drain to their HP for the duration of the spell. It is said that dying from the damage caused by this spell is what it means to die happy, but again, who can say? This spell requires OOC permission to be used on PCs and PC-controlled/important NPCs due to its... unique effects.
Dictum: Erado! (I Delete!)
Rank: S
MP Cost: 60 MP
Category: Defensive, Debuff, Drain
Type: Burst
Durability: 360 HP
Range: 100 meters
Speed: 100 m/s
Duration: 10 posts
Description: At the command, “Erado!”, Beira creates two shields: one larger dome that encompasses the spell’s range, and a smaller dome about 10 meters in radius within the larger one. The smaller dome ‘forgets’ any attack made on it for up to 360 HP, before it breaks. Anyone Beira considers to be a foe caught within the larger shield begins to feel like they are forgetting something, and suffer a 70% debuff to spell damage and 5% MP drain, due to the difficulty it takes to remember things. Even if they escape the dome, the effects remain for the spell duration. Staying within the dome can cause targets to totally forget things which Beira desires them to (Plot mechanic; does not work on PCs and PC-controlled/important NPCs).

Category: Offensive, Drain, Debuff
Type: Single Target
Damage: 120 HP

Description: Beira touches a target with any part of her body, causing surprisingly painless damage which reflects as feelings of fatigue, as well as draining their HP by 5% per post, and healing Beira for a HP equivalent of 5% of her maximum HP per post, while debuffing their strength by 90% due to the weakness felt. Beira doesn’t have to maintain contact to keep the drain effect running. Note that Beira has to make contact with the target’s skin or similar equivalent to effect the drain, though the damage alone can be effected by touching a target’s clothes or armor.
Prima Data: Imprecation

Speed: 165 m/s
Duration: 8 posts
Description: Transparent balls of psionic energy appear around Beira, and she sends them forth to attack targets. Anyone hit by the orbs hears an unnatural shriek in their ears, as their nerve synapses are jarringly destabilized, causing 90 HP damage, as well as a debuff to their speed by 90% and a 5% HP drain per post.
Prima Data: Damnation
Rank: A+
MP Cost: 75 MP
Category: Offensive, Immobilization, Drain, Debuff
Type: Burst
Damage: 150 HP
Range: 110 meters
Speed: 110 m/s
Duration: 9 posts
Description: Beira releases forbidden information within her spell range, the spell being expressed as a rippling of air going outward from her in all directions. Anyone that comes in contact with the rippling will hear ominous whispers in a foreign tongue. Those that Beira wishes to harm, however, will suddenly receive perceptions of inconceivable horrors forcibly imprinted in their minds, dealing them sheer mental devastation. The horror experienced freezes its victims for one post due to immense shock, and they receive a 5% drain to HP for 9 posts. Victims cannot describe what their minds perceived, and those who are killed by this spell have their faces constricted into expressions of sheer horror, with their bodies twisted into unsettling positions. Of course deaths, as in all cases, must be approved of OOC before this can be used on PCs and PC-controlled/important NPCs.
Prima Dicta: Accio Vitam! (I Call Life!)
Rank: A+
MP Cost: 75 MP
Category: Defensive/Healing, Negation, Buff
Type: Burst
Durability/Healing: 300 HP/ 150 HP
Range: 110 meters
Speed: 110 m/s
Duration: 9 posts
Downside: Durability is x2, instead of x3 damage, to add another category
Description: Beira utter the command, “Accio Vitam!”, which creates a mildly glowing, pearlescent bubble the size of the spell’s range, though its dimensions can be controlled within the range of the spell. This bubble is a shield to protect against external attacks up to 300 HP, and any ally within the bubble will be healed for 150 HP, as everything within the bubble feels the urge to live. Enemies in the bubble will not be healed, though they will feel slightly more vital. Any insalubrious spell or effect can be cancelled once it is within the bubble, but Beira must pay the base costs for whatever is being cancelled, to do so. Only spells/effects of A+ rank and lower can be negated, and only one spell/effect can be negated per post. Allies within this bubble receive a 5% regeneration of HP for 9 posts when then the spell is cast, even if they leave the bubble.
Prima Dicta: Accio Mortem! (I Call Death!)
Rank: S+
MP Cost: 90 MP
Category: Offensive, Debuff
Type: Burst
Damage: 180 HP + 50% = 270 HP
Range: 150 meters
Speed: 150 m/s
Duration: 12 posts
Downside: Two effects sacrificed for 50% increase to Damage
Description: At the command, “Accio Mortem!”, a ghostly blue flame radiates outwards from Beira. Anyone it touches feels a ghostly chill, but those Beira intends to harm will have their heads set alight with the blue ghostly flame, suffering immense damage, as the command attempts to strip them of life. They also suffer a 50% debuff to physical damage. Should anyone succumb to death while under the effects of this spell, their bodies will wither till they are nothing incandescent skeletons, glowing mildly with the eerie blue spectral flame. The flame is not harmful, but feels cold to the touch, and burns for about a day, leaving only ash-colored skeletons with an unnatural chill in its wake. Of course deaths, as in all cases, must be approved of OOC before this can be used on PCs and PC-controlled/important NPCs.
Signature Spells
- Signature Spells:
Cosmic Resonance
Rank: S
Category: Auxiliary
Type: Passive
Description: Beira’s connection to the Knowledge Domain allows her to perceive the cosmic energies that flow through all of creation, allowing her to ‘know’ her environment automatically. This makes her aware of everything that goes on within the range of her psionic sense, which is that of an AoE spell of her rank, although she has an ‘alert’ zone of about a 10 meter radius around her, within which she is keenly aware of what goes on. Beyond this alert zone, Beira may have to concentrate to get a reading on what is happening. The Cosmic Resonance is unhindered by physical barriers, including the ground. Beira can use this ability to detect targets hidden by magic, although she can only do this to a single target once per post, it is only effective against cloaking magic of her rank or lower, and she must pay equivalent base MP to the spell she is trying to uncloak.
Shadowstep
Rank: S
MP Cost: N/A
Category: Auxiliary
Type: Burst
Damage: N/A
Range: Self
Speed: Self
Duration: 10 posts
Description: Utilizing her knowledge of the hidden psionic pathways made available by the Mind Domain, Beira can walk unseen and undetected, as she traverses paths undetectable by normal senses. She is also hidden to magic sensors below her rank, and can phase herself through solid objects. This does not render her immune to damage, however. Beira can choose to make herself visible when shadowstepping, though she will appear translucent. If she is in physical contact with others, she can get them to shadowstep with her.
