“Lilith, come in. Shut the door behind you.”

Mythal looked uncharacteristically calm at the moment. Normally when someone came into his office, he was in the middle of some kind of project or looking through reports or assigning documentation and research to one group or the other. There were rare times that he wasn’t doing anything at all and usually, he wasn’t in his office during said times. So it would probably be a bit of a surprise for Lilith to find him sitting there, arms crossed over his chest and giving her his full and undivided attention. He waited until she had closed the door before he would reach up with a hand and snap. Darkness would flow out of every corner of the room and rise up over the walls, creating a new blanket of shadow over the former barriers. Within seconds, they were standing in a box of his darkness magic.

“Can’t be too careful,” he said simply as he gestured for her to sit down. This was highly unusual -- at ease in his responsibilities and sealing the room. He leveled his gaze on Lilith carefully as he leaned forward. “I ain’t gonna beat around the bush, Lil… I’ve brought you in to take on a very dangerous task. I’ve been followin’ your exploits basically since you got here, mostly because at first, I didn’t think you were gonna take this seriously. I felt you joined the Knights more as a means to be a pain in yer brother’s side than to do actual work. I was wrong and I’m sorry for makin’ such a snap judgement on you.”

“It’s because of your ability to get information through any means that I’ve called you in. The Field Marshall and I needed someone who could succeed where others would almost certainly fail. So far, yer the one that’s proven to have the ability to get the job done. I’m puttin’ a lot of faith in you by revealin’ this to you -- as no one else has been let in on this particular suspicion of ours.” He let that sink in for a moment, so she understood the weight of what he was saying. After a few seconds, he continued. “We have reasons to believe that some of the Magic Council do not have altruistic interests at heart. One in particular is a man by the name of Winston Floruma. Younger guy, blond hair -- extremely well mannered and closed off. We believe he has possession of a lot of information that could help us form a stable case.”

“But he won’t let us near him. He’s actually pretty adamant about steerin’ away from Seri and I. But you’ve made yourself a bit of a name within the ranks. It’s because of this that we want you to form a connection with him. This isn’t a short term deal -- you’ll be puttin’ yourself in a place where yer gonna be actin’ as a double agent. No doubt he’ll be bitin’ at the opportunity to get the newest rising star of the Rune Knights under his thumb. And your ability to detect information is gonna be vital in this.” It wasn’t an easy thing to reveal -- Seri and Mythal had only discussed it with three other people up to this point. But it was clear that they had a lot of faith in Lilith’s abilities and trusted her to be tightlipped over the possibility of investigating the Magic Council. “You can say no if you wanna -- I ain’t gonna put you in danger if you don’t feel like you can handle it. But I recommended you personally for this because I believe you’ve got the ability. So… what'dya say?”
