Jariel had been reminded by one of the other passport appliers at Hargeon Town That there was something else that he needed to do while he was here at the executive area of the town. As, basically, an immigrant here in Fiore, there were certain other papers that he needed to sign in order to gain certain access to certain activities and rights… such as the right to get married in this land. That was truly something that the Demon Slayer couldn’t help but skip a breath thinking about. It was a little silly, to be honest…
That was why he had arrived at the waiting room for those who needed wedding passes - because such a thing actually existed here in Fiore - with his legs crossed as well as his arms as he sat with the other waiters. There was an intense air around him, complimented by the shadow that his cap gave his eyes… some of the people waiting next to him glared a few times in worry of what had set him off like this.
It was just that… Jariel, as a Desiertan, held the concept of marriage very high. It was a sacred sacrilege, and while it was not necessarily enforced upon the youth back in Desierto, it was definitely seen as an honored tradition and life goal for every young man and woman of that nation. That was why everyone had the right to get married under the rules in Desierto… it was almost as if the country begged you to get married or something.
So why need a pass for marriage? Hadn’t the government already given you the ‘ok’ sign to get married anyway as a citizen? Well, not like he was a citizen yet - or maybe he was, given his passport. Yeah, with his actual passport, he should be considered a citizen too, right?
Or was this some kind of discrimination? Now that Jariel looked around, he sure spotted many people with nuances akin to his own. He even started talking with a man sitting next to him and found out that the man was Desiertan too; he had come here with his would-be wife to get his pass. This was weird, man…
Once when it was Jariel’s turn, he rose up from his chair and bid the gentleman next to him ‘salaam’ before entering the room with the clerk. The Demon Slayer could smell the lack of care on the clerk’s face, for it was written all over him. Jariel didn’t look forward to what he was going to learn… if he would learn anything from this.
…
After exiting the building with his newly-acquired wedding license, Jariel sighed deeply. He… he learned almost nothing new about the wedding and marriage system in Fiore; it was as if he just needed to know the essentials like who he was allowed to marry, how much inheritance would go to whom, and even when explaining that, the clerk never got into detail…
