Myth or Legend? [Riza & Zenshin]

It had only been a few weeks since Riza had last seen the cream-colored sands of the desert. Too soon, if you ask me... The sand wasn't her favorite attribute of the desert - it clung to her skin and damaged her hair. Plus, it wasn't the best to walk on, either. For such a place, normally flat shoes would suffice, but Riza couldn't bear to depart with her heels completely. She traded her black boots for dark red ones with a slightly shorter heel. To compensate for the heel's lack of easy walking across sand, she used her wind magic to give herself a slight lift, making it seem as though she were walking on, well, air. But still - the fact remained that the desert had sand that liked to get into places that shouldn't be named. Add the scorching heat to the mixture, and one would have a vague picture of what the region was like. Only it was worse. Much worse.

The reason for RIza's recent re-arrival to the desert was simple - she had a job. Again. Luckily for her, though, was the fact that she didn't have a single other person to worry about - just herself. It was almost as though it were a gift from a god, being alone once more. I never find enough of that these days... The adjustment of going from solitude for 4 years to that of a guild master was quite a large jump, and it was still a work in progress. Riza wasn't sure if she'd ever fully adjust, nor if she really wanted to.

A sigh escaped her lips as she saw the ruins in the distance. Thank Merlin, she mentally thought, picking up her pace a bit. No need to delay the inevitable. Besides, how difficult can it be to infiltrate some ruins and poke around a bit? The woman wasn't worried in the slightest - what she was worried about was that mutt Daemon had brought into the guild. What if it ruins the throw rug? Another sigh passed her lips, and she kicked a raised area of sand for effect. What's so interesting about some ancient cult, anyways? She squinted to try and get a better look of the ruins. Truth be told, she was just as interested as her employer was. Maybe the ruins held a clue to what she had been searching for all these years - the one thing that had eluded her family for centuries. What if all of my answers are inside? The thought made Riza hesitate - was she really ready for the answers she had been seeking for years? A glint entered the mage's eye then, and she pulled her black gloves tighter on her arms. No point in any trepidation now, Riza. All will end as it should.

Having taken two jobs in this god forsaken desert last time he faced the Eclipse Soul bulletin board, he walked out onto the warm sand, his toes wriggling through the grains while he read the job request. There was son ruin near his current location that was home to an ancient cult that no one seems to know exactly what they were all about, as some said they were a symbol for the weak and other said they held dark ideals. A researcher said that he would pay good money for the secrets of the ruins. If this man is curious about something like this, he should be curious enough to go to these ruins and find the secret himself, not pay big jewels to whoever can get it for him... Oh well, not like I can argue with the reward he thought while walking towards the ruins in the distance. For this particular mission, he wasn't wearing any shoes, though he rarely did, a white trench coat that extended down to his knees, a pair of jeans, and his straw hat.

Though it's often said that ice mages don't like the warm, moisture-less air of the desert, that really wasn't the case for Zenshin, as he thought the water tasted just a bit better and his magic was just a bit more solid. Of course it wasn't, but that's how he thought and genuinely thought that this is true. After doing a bit more digging on this job though, he found out that legal guilds weren't the only ones interested in this particular set of ruins, so he had to be vigilant about any dark mages in the area. Even if there is a dark mage, I'm sure they wouldn't be able to fight me on such a flat piece of land, then again, if they are sand mages I'm pretty vulnerable he thought, looking around at all the sand. With a sigh, he continued onward.

This sand was too hot from the sun to be walking barefoot, but thankfully for Zenshin, he was able to create a thin layer of ice under his feet, cooling down the sand that touched the bottom of his feet enough for it to be pleasant. He was so sure that he would get to the ruins and find out the secret first, but he had no idea that a dark mage had been dispatched against him, one that would be a difficult enemy to overcome, but also one that he had met before. The walk was taking quite a bit of time, but he was wasn't about to use his falcon, not when he knew that he would definitely need all the magic he could muster sooner or later.
