- Job Details:
As was the case most of the time the library was quiet with few lifeforms present. One might think this was the reason for the lights all having been turned off, but the matter of the fact was that one of the few people utilizing the place currently preferred it that way. Where others would find themselves blinded she always found the dark to have a kind of clarity to it.
In front of Akeya one of the reading tables was covered by three scrolls, each one carefully laid out so they parchments didn't overlap and hinder the reading of each of them. The dragoness was leaning over the table as her emerald eyes moved between the different texts without a pause, comparing the notes that each of the scrolls contained after already having read each of them several times.
Despite being a dragon (or perhaps because she was a dragon) Akeya could be found in the library so often that it was practically her room in Onyx Moon's guild hall. She had a small room somewhere tucked away where technically she should sleep whenever she became tired, but more often than not she just made herself comfortable in one of the corners of the library and resumed her research once she woke up. This of course also meant that her interaction with the other guild members was often found lacking as their paths in life often didn't include many trips to the library. If she wasn't in the library Akeya was training or out on a job, with the occasional trip to somewhere as a way of broadening her horizons and enjoying herself with something different than the beauty of literature.
This day however she definitely was focused on research for the sake of her job. Onyx Moon, with its front as the West Fiore Trading Company, was deeply tied with nearly all the trading routes in the known world. Ships were nearly constantly arriving and departing from the harbour, heading to and from destinations close and far. Because of this it was the first guild to receive news about a request from the Principality of Veronica. The people living in that seafaring nation were apparently beginning to reach a state of public panic as they kept talking about how it was almost time for the Storm King to rise up from the depths of the sea. It not being the first time for Akeya that people were worried about something dangerous emerging from the abyss the dragoness didn't waste any time searching the library for information on the creature.
The three scrolls in front of her were the fruits of her research, the three pieces which contained the most detailed information about what the Storm King might be. Despite that she still couldn't find out what kind of creature it was: it looked like it was entirely unique, impossible to assign to any known species.
The scroll on the left was a collection of mythological tales and folklore from Crescent Island and its surroundings. This scroll contained information about the cycle of destruction and quiet that the Storm King underwent every fifty years. Of course the myths included some suggestions that this was part of the natural cycle and a way to wipe the slate clean every fifty years, but Akeya hadn't been able to find any evidence suggesting that the Storm King really was anything more than some strange creature which had become too big and too powerful.
The scroll on the right listed dangerous creatures known throughout the world, with suggestions of their origins, behaviour and how to deal with them. Whoever wrote the scroll hadn't known what the Storm King might exactly be, but their instruction for how to deal with it had been clear: keep track of its territory and make sure you're not in its territory around the time that it wakes up. More helpful was the information that the creature did in fact have a territory, and that you didn't have to worry about it aimlessly wandering from one side of the world to the other over time.
The scroll in the middle was the retelling of a story of someone who claimed to have seen the Storm King. Not up close of course, because as the story quite vehemently stated the Storm King was permanently surrounded by an intense storm, strong enough to uproot the biggest trees and carve out hillsides. That did make any information from the scroll somewhat suspect given that the teller could only have observed the Storm King from a distance, but if the details were correct the Storm King was definitely some kind of physical creature with magical powers, and not some kind of magical embodiment of storms.
Of course the information on the scroll also stated that it could fly, swim, walk on land, and while it usually just moved about without clear purpose whatever ended up in its path ended up flattened and ripped apart. So while there was nothing saying that the creature couldn't die there was plenty to suggest that it wouldn't die easily.
Gathering up the scrolls and putting them back where they belonged the dragoness left the library, bandages wrapping around her body to conceal her appearance as she went to accept the mission to take care of the Storm King's ascension. Whether she would do that by killing it or forcing it back into the water would depend on what she'd find there.
