Personality
Have you ever found yourself gazing upon a magnificent natural landscape? Steep cliffs, as multifaceted as they are ancient; the soft reflections of dusk-light striking them at angles oblique, as the monotonous splash of a nearby stream chimes the baseline for nearby birdsong. Leaves, rustled tenderly by a breeze neither cool nor warm. Altogether, a scene some may call "paradise". A scene Aegis would call "home".
For the azure-clad man, the word "home" does not evoke images of blazing hearths or smiling families. He never had such things to begin with, so how would he know? Rather, "home" for him means peace, and "peace" is a word that can best describe his persona. Standing at over 6 feet tall and bearing mostly cold colours, most at first will likely name him anything but, yet beneath his dangerous gait and poised gaze is a rather calm and welcoming demeanor.
Most of the time, Aegis is content to remain silent and observe the goings-on around him. This is in part because he likes to remain focused and aware, ever-prepared to respond to the unexpected, but those who would name him tense because of this would be foolish. The Azure Knight carries himself with grace at all times, and this is reflected also in his gestures and speech. Though rarely choosing tact over truth, those exposed to his harsh honesty will find that he speaks with no malice nor disdain in his voice. To him, imperfections are just as natural as everything else, thus they do not intrinsically warrant any negative feelings.
This accepting attitude extends both to people and to events. Calmness, composure, grace and wisdom -- he believes -- only visit those who can accept everything exactly as-is, for that is the basis of clarity, of precision. True to his disciplined nature, he adheres to these traits diligently. However, Aegis understands that those aspects are merely a choice, a game he has chosen to play with his own life, and there is no wrong in others choosing differently. Life is, after all, only a game where one defines for himself what is of value. It is in understanding the value of subjectivity that has allowed the Azure Knight to open his heart to the world and its inhabitants. A state which often brings him smiles.
Though when engaged in a social environment Aegis often remains quiet, relying on actions over words, the same cannot be said for when he feels himself alone. This can be literal, or it can describe the times he has immersed himself in a beloved activity, such as martial practice or artistic expression; in both cases, when Aegis feels alone, his often minimalist style of expression changes drastically. He becomes much more active with his gestures, much more verbal, as he occasionally mutters to himself, and feeling no social distractions, he often feels much more free to smile as broadly as he pleases at the play of life that is the world. Perhaps this is why he is often drawn to lonely places, for without distractions, the beauty of reality is laid bare before his piercing violet eyes.
The Knight often seeks solace in silence, regularly choosing to converse with his loneliness over the company of crowds. This loneliness both in its calming and its saddening aspects, is his most trusted companion... but also one he never truly asked for, at first. Aegis has had a long life, though his appearance says otherwise, and he is not quick to speak of his past, which often prevents him from forming genuine connections with others. It is, in this sense, his own fault that he has been plunged so deeply in isolation and though he may ponder upon this frequently during his regular introspections, Aegis inevitably chooses to do nothing about it. It is, he believes, his natural state to be sad... and is sadness truly such a bad thing? Negative or positive, all emotions are beautiful, and should he try to purge his sadness by putting on a more welcoming mask, he is likely to only damage his tender heart in the long run. So, with a sad smile, Aegis hopes for something else -- one day being able to not flee from loneliness, but share it with someone. In silence or in words, it does not matter. Sharing a single moment, true and pure, without worries of the past or the present is what will allow the Knight to feel a connection with another.
It is the beauty of such a thought that lifts his spirits when he feels unbearably alone.
"I was meant to die, but instead I woke up here, on this world. I know not what my purpose is, but I do understand one thing: whatever destiny has in store for me, this time I will live true. And I won't make the same mistakes again!"

Fears:
Aegis has a youthful expression, appearing no more than middle-aged, yet upon closer inspection he seems less young and more... ageless, as if his eyes hide a life longer than the face reveals. Beyond this, his expression is normally relaxed and smooth, more often than not changing only subtly to show hints of emotion. However, due to his face's angular nature, should he ever show an expression of true fury, it will be a terrifying sight indeed. More likely, however, is to spy him smilling -- or even grinning! -- which tends to soften his expression and lend a curious warmth to his violet eyes.
Though decidedly masculine in both physique and attitude, his relaxed expressions, gentle heart and graceful behavior lend a degree of feminine beauty to his presence.

- Dueling: Aegis is exceptionally fond of the arts of fighting, having spent innumerable years studying them, all so that he can enjoy the marvelous thrill that is to cross one's sword with the enemy. It is one of the best ways to get to know them.
- Artistry: The cadence of art, whatever its form, is like a hymn sung to the ebb and flow of worldly energies. How can one not love it? If only everyone would truly open their hearts...
- Peace: No matter its polarity, the excessive leads to turmoil. Turmoil leads to dissonance.
- Serene company: It has not happened often, but being able to share a moment of understanding with someone is among the few things that can fill Aegis' heart with warmth. Despite the memories it inevitably dredges up.
- Meditation: Moving or static, nothing can match the sense of blissful serenity meditation can bring.
- Observation: The Knight believes that all around us there are countless little beautiful moments hidden from the inattentive. It is a shame to leave such beauty unnoticed.
- Growth: Few things can make Aegis happier than seeing someone become purer, better, livelier or more inspired. Especially if it was thanks to him.
Dislikes:
- Being interrupted: Aegis tends to dedicate himself to whatever he is doing, sometimes making himself a bit inflexible as a result. Because of this, an interruption timed at an inopportune moment can be quite agitating.
- Malignant selfishness: It is healthy for a person to be selfish. The cultivation of self predates the helping of others; however, when one's selfishness comes at the expense of unnecessary suffering, it can only be unsightly. Disrupting harmony affects all beings and Aegis often feels obliged to stop such actions.
- The undisciplined and the unreliable: Aegis' accepting nature sometimes comes into conflict with his single-mindedness. Having his intentions blocked by others' indiligence can be infuriating. The Knight, however, is aware that this speaks more about himself than about other people and is a vestige of a past rarely spoken of.
- Nihilism: An old friend, an old foe. Nihilism and the Knight know each-other from a long time ago, back when it bore a different name: Ludwig.
Motivations:
- Harmony: In harmony, all can grow and the beauty of everything becomes apparent. This was a lesson Aegis learned the hard way and, bearing the will of the Azure Flower, the Knight will do what he can to teach others the Way.
- Hope of Redemption: Aegis once led a different life in a different world. Though his presence in Fiore is a mystery even to him, a faint hope dwells in his heart -- to atone for the mistakes of the past and perhaps in doing so, earn the right to happiness. Earn true peace.
- Chosen of the Flower: A man named Phyrro once stood up to Aegis, laying down his life to prove to him that he was not worthy. That moment will be forever ingrained in his memory. Aegis will never allow himself to be unworthy of the title of The Azure Knight.
Fears:
- Self-righteousness: Aegis was once a different man. A man more than willing to condemn the masses to eternal suffering in the name of a selfish belief. He was so sure that it was right, that it took the death of a world to show him his delusion. Was that who he truly was? How can he be sure that he is not equally as deluded in his current beliefs? Can he truly trust himself..?
- Himself: The Knight has had ample time and opportunity to become acquainted with what lies deep within his heart. He knows the extremes to which he is capable of leaning and the danger that poses to everyone. What does it mean to be truly free? Is it even possible? Or is he doomed to such suspicions...
- Heights: Perhaps in contrast to his otherwise internal fears, Aegis has a difficult time remaining composed when near the edges of dangerously-elevated platforms. Though he understands that they are unlikely to be dangerous to him in particular, and the fear is also not crippling, it is a worrying distraction which may one day prove fatal.
- Failing in his purpose: What once was committed can never be allowed a second time. His purpose now is clear. Becoming the antithesis of what he strives towards cannot be permitted.
