It was done. Whisper was officialy member of a guild. Silver Wolf, an organisation that seemed to have been designed for people just like him. A place where he could put his skills to use. A place he thought could help with his own, personal research. A place he hoped he could, eventually, belong. It already felt welcoming and familiar, even though he had recently joined. So why couldn't it be his future home? Home is where the heart is, they say, and after all this place had already won his heart as an institution. He was willing to give the people here a chance too. The formalities of his joining had been taken care off a couple of days ago, when he first arrived to the guild. As proof, on the back of his left hand was a new tatto. A wolf's head, black in color, facing right. An identification of him being a memebr of the mages guild known as Silver Wolf. However, a tradition existed here according to which one was not a true member, in soul, until they went through their initiation. Camping out, is what Whisper thought of it, and although he did not particularly care about camping following traditions was something he could get behind of. That was why Whisper was currently standing in the garden outside the guild hall. A black, leather backpack resting on the floor next to him, leaning against his left leg. Always a man of style, even though he was about to head out in the wilderness he still opted for wearing a suit. Only this time he brought along a long, thick, black fur lined coat which he wore over his dashing three piece. He absentmindedly fixed the collar of his suit with one hand as his eyes fell on his other hand's wrist. Looking at it as if to tell the time. A habit he has kept from when he actually wore a wristwatch. He didn't know if he was early or if anyone was late or even if there was anyone else at all that would be coming. It was too soon for him to have gotten to know anyone at his guild, let alone anyone who had also yet to take their initiation. Which was why, this morning, he had put a memo on a noticeboard, saying that whoever felt like accompanying him to his initiation was welcome to meet outside the guild after the sun had set. Having not specified a time he instead opted to spent some time in the garden waiting for anyone, for someone, to show up. But it was already dusk an he couldn't wait around for forever. "Five more minutes. Then I am going." he said with a sigh. |

Re: A Night of Howling
Days had passed since Damian's introduction to the guild proper by Mercury, Mathis, and guild master Leona. Having been given his guild mark in a pleasant forest green on the right side of his neck, which felt like the appropriate place to him for some reason, he had immediately gone about studying and learning from the guild's records and the like. He felt at home in this wonderful place of study almost instantaneously, but as it turns out he had missed an important initiation rite. Howling with the wolves, but literal and fellow guild members, at the peak of the mountains. Apparently while a member was such in name upon acceptance of their mark, they were not in spirit until such time as they took said rite of passage.
Damian was not particularly perturbed by the thought of not being a member "in spirit" right away, and took his time learning the guild layout and responsibilities. However, as he passed the guild's notice board one fine morning he found a new notice from a fellow fresh inductee. Apparently they were prepping to do said rite of passage and were welcome to having any along who had yet to complete it. Having felt comfortably familiarized with the guild, Damian took note of the vague time that was written and decided to join this Whisper fellow. Damian set about prepping suitable clothes for an evening climbing a snowy mountainside. A simple fur lined coat, flannel shirt, jeans, and hiking boots completed his outfit. While he enjoyed the cool temperatures of the mountain, he would be a fool to think he could face the coldest parts of the mountain unprepared.
Making busy work for himself for the day until the sun had set was not difficult for Damian. He took his time in studying a few insects he had captured for study from around the guild. There was a particularly aggressive spider species that was, thankfully, not venomous. It was shockingly swift and with a powerful bite however, and Damian had innumerable puncture marks across his body from handling them. He was very near to understanding them well enough to replicate their abilities via his magic he believed, and the prospect excited him greatly. As such he was...slightly distracted and realized a little late how dark it had begun to get outside.
With great rapidity did he throw on his outfit and rush to meet with this Whisper person. Thankfully he found the man waiting in the gardens. A bit of an odd looking character, but he definitely dressed well by Damian's reckoning. Damian approached him, only ever so slightly out of breath and with a spider crawling along his hairline unbeknownst to him. He gave a sloppy grin and a casual wave to the man as he approached. "You must be Whisper. My name's Damian, nice to meet you. You ready to howl with some wolves?"

Re: A Night of Howling
His waiting was not in vain after all as someone had come to join him on this night out. In an amusing twist of fate the one who came to accompany him, Damian as he introduced himself, turned out to be the exact opposite of him; which was pale, blond and well dressed. Black hair, tan skin and a casual, yet more appropriate for tonight's activities than his own, attire. Damian's ensemble was complimented by a spider crawling on his forehead. How the man could not notice it was a mystery to Whisper. "Nice to meet you, Damian." A smile on his face, rare occurance as it was genuine due to the absurdity of the situation's coincidence...and the spider, as he we went in for a handshake. "By the way" he added "you have, uh, something...right here." He said, mirroring a walking motion on his forehead with his fingers. Figuring it proper to notify his guildmate of the arachnid currently trekking on him. Having done his good deed for the day, Whisper slightly crouched to pick up his bag. Quality leather touching pure wool as he donned it on his back. Introductions, and spider, out of the way now he thought it best for them to get going. He didn't want to take too long for them to settle somewhere, preferably a nice clearing, and set up a fire. You see, he was starting to feel peckish. And while he didn't know if Damian brought any food along, in fact he didn't know if he brought anything along seeing as he appeared to carry no luggage, he did know that what he had in his backpack would take some time to cook. The mere act of thinking about food, however, had the effect of making him go from peckish to properly hungry. Images of all kinds of delicious anti-hunger provisions, also known as food, filling his head. To take his mind off food, Whisper started rolling up a cigarette. While some found that it encouraged hunger, he himself belonged to that group of people who thought it instead stalled it. Lighting it up and taking a drag, he could already feel his emptimess being slightly kept at bay. Proper smokers' etiguette dictated that one should always offer another person a cigarette, yet should never push for them to accept it. In accordance to that rule he held out his tobacco case, rolling papers and filter tips with one hand. One eyebrow raised, it asking the question in place of words. Now, proper smokers' etiguette also stated that one shouldn't smoke in company of people who disliked it. Of course, Whisper did respect their wishes if someone explicitly asked him not to smoke. That said, he wasn't considerate enough to bother asking for permission beforehand. "Feel free to bum one if you like, mate." He said anyways, subconsciously switching his speech to a british accent, one hand still slightly extended in an offer. |

Re: A Night of Howling
Damian jovially accepted Whisper's offered hand, shaking it erratically as he returned the man's grin. A momentary look of confusion crossed his face as Whisper mentioned something on his forehead. However, as he reached up to find what it was he realized swiftly that he had somehow allowed one of the local spiders to roam about on himself unhindered. Catching the offending arachnid was easy enough, but not without its cost. Damian grimaced as the spider's jaw snapped closed on one of his fingers at breathtaking speeds. It drew blood almost immediately, but Damian was unperturbed past the initial pain. Setting the spider gently aside in the garden where he had procured it in the first place, the spider released his finger and scuttled off into the night.
Damian, always prepared for insect study and the risks involved, pulled a small roll of gauze from the inside pocket of his jacket. Wrapping his finger with a swiftness and level of precision that could only come from muscle memory through thousands of repetitions, Damian cut the edge of the gauze with his teeth and stored it back in his pocket. While he had never gotten sick as a result of a non-venomous bite before, he liked to be careful. Not so much because he worried about his own life or some such nonsense, but rather illness tended to keep one from pursuing their interests and studies. Not on Damian's watch.
Turning back to his new companion, Damian offered thanks for the heads up about the spider. Eyeing the offered tobacco Damian looked almost comically nauseous. "No, thank you, tobacco disagrees with me rather potently. Though, don't let that stop you from enjoying it yourself." His father had been a habitual smoker since long before he was born, and when he came of age he offered Damian a taste as well. Something about smoking with your father being a traditional rite of passage for their family specifically. Damian didn't originally find it as odd or annoying as other "traditions" his parents held in esteem, but after trying it he immediately knew he would never smoke again. Thinking back on it made Damian queasy, quashing what few thoughts of food had started to spring up when he realized he hadn't eaten in a number of hours.
Which was just as well considering he had...not prepared beyond clothing for this rite of passage they were about to embark upon. He hadn't considered that it might be any longer than the walk to an appropriate spot, howling with the wolves, and walking back. As such he had on him only his standard casual outdoor bits and baubles. Gauze, magnifying glass, tweezers, and a pack of matches. Thankfully it seemed apparent that should something else be required, Whisper had them covered if his fancy backpack was any indication. Though how he planned to remain warm in what he was wearing Damian was curious to see. "Shall we?" Damian asked with a more composed expression and a glance at the storm beyond the guild's sphere of influence.

Re: A Night of Howling
Heeding his guildmate's invitation, Whisper, begun pacing towards the woods surrounding Silver Wolf's hall. The cold wind stinging against his skin. It's lashes feeling like welts from a small, invisible whip. However, compared to his first trip upwards the mountain this was nothing. That first climb was treacherous. But this time, he had worn a coat. Wearing a coat would always keep you more warm than going without it would. You see, coats would do that. His cigarette still ablaze, resting either on his fingers or lips, the blond mage kept walking through the snowed in forest. Occasionally howls, belonging to either the local spirit wolves or to the normal ones, could be heard. Whisper was not walking aimlessly however. He knew exactly where he was heading. When he first came to the guild he happened to walk past a nice, quaint, little clearing in the woods. Only problem was he hadn't known about the initiation ceremony back then and thus had not marked the exact location of the clearing in his head. So he would have to wander around a bit first. He wasn't one hundred percent sure where he was heading. But the general location was...somewhere around there. Possibly not too far from the guildhall. He did remember seeing it about thirty of fourty minutes before arriving to the guildhall. But that had been quite the snowy day, so the actual location may have been closer. Nonetheless, mentally assuring himself he knew where he was leading himself and Damian he kept walking on. "Come on mate. I know the perfect spot for tonight." Alas, knowing a spot and knowing where that spot lies are two interconnected but different things. So, nearly an hour, and many cigarettes later, Whisper was almost entirely sure he had gotten them lost. Figures, he thought. Walking around in stranger woods is a surefire way to get yourself lost. On hindsight, though, he may should have asked Damian for directions of any kind at some point. After all, the dark haired mage had been around these parts for, even if slightly, longer than he had. Taking a deep, large breath, exhaling in depseration and exasperation Whisper turned to his guildmate. Finally ready to admit his navigatory mistakes. "I may, and emphasise on may, have gotten us lost." He said sheepishly, drawing out the first way for a couple of vowels. |

Re: A Night of Howling
For nearly an hour Damian followed Whisper, who had a place in mind for where to hold the rite of passage. The time passed without much notice from Damian, who had far more suitable clothing for the weather than the first time through the woods. Not distracted by shivers or pain, he had ample time to let his mind and eyes wander as they walked. There was an...eerie beauty to the unbroken snow covering the ground. It sorta reminded him of the deserts of his homeland in a comforting way.
Both fortunately and unfortunately, there were no species of insect that liked to hide under the snow on this mountain....at least as far as anyone had discovered. There would not be any scorpion style surprises striking at he and his guildmate's unsuspecting forms. Which was...good he supposed. Yet, he found the lack of bug specimens suited to the cold environs disappointing. Perhaps he should try another snowy Fioran mountain range at some point. Mount Hakobe could prove to have a better supply of specimens perhaps. However, that was a consideration for another time.
As for the current, Whisper spoke up to tell Damian he might have gotten them lost. Chewing his lip for a moment while he pondered how to help, Damian decided perhaps a bird's eye view might improve things a bit. "Gimme just a moment, I have an idea." With an effort of will, and a bit of magic besides, Damian glowed a sickly purple color as large, translucent, veined wings sprouted from his back and grew very nearly as large as himself. With a clearly pleased grin to Whisper, Damian took off into the air. Weaving through a few treetops until he was safely above the tallest of them.
Unfortunately, Damian found that a blizzard was....less than phenomenal when it came to seeing any real distance beyond yourself. From up where he was he should be able to clearly see all the way back to the guild hall. As it stood he could just barely see maybe a hundred or so feet in every direction before the veil of snow blocked his vision. He supposed he could try flying above the storm, but he wasn't sure his wings could handle that....nor could his lungs at their altitude. Dejectedly, he descended back down to Whisper.
Setting down gently and dismissing his takeover spell, he met Whisper's gaze with a frown. "Nothing much to see even from way up there. Honestly, this is the clearest spot we have in a hundred feet in every direction. Think we could do what we need to here and then backtrack to the guild, or should we keep going?" Though surely intelligent in some matters, Damian knew well enough the limitations of his sheltered upbringing. He was more than willing to defer to Whisper if he had literally any clue of what to do here.
