It had been a few weeks since Lance first helped the herbalist by taking down the cloaked figure and had decided to stay in the Beanstalk Village until whatever was happening to the environment there was either subsided or he had more information about it. He had rented out a room in a small hotel for the time being and was rather enjoying himself being surrounded by nature and people who loved the beauty of their small town.  He spent his days either exploring or helping the herbalist flip through books for something that might help them.

Then there was the question about the coin that Lance had found on the man he had previously pursued. The coin in question was a two-sided coin with a skull on one side and a hand on the other. Lance taking a walk outside of the village while examining each part of the coin, hoping to find any clues as to who the guy was or what his relationship to the weird plants were because, as Lance looked around, the plants were only starting to grow and populate outside of the town as well, causing some worry to him.

As he was returning to the town, he heard the footsteps of a person running towards him frantically. Looking up, he saw it was the herbalist with a rather urgent look on her face. She would stop in front of the mage, hands on her knees to catch her breath for a few second before speaking. “Lance, thank goodness I’ve found you. The village is under attack by animals!” she would speak before pointing at the own.

Lance simply shook his head at this “I’m sorry, I can help you with the plants but harming the natural forces of nature is not my job.” He crossed his arms and shook his head, returning to his coin. “Handle it yourself… but don’t you dare hurt those animals.” He spoke with a rather disregard for human life as it was not really a concern of his. The herbalist still insisted, shaking her head “No! The animals… They are normal.”

Lance’s head popped up from the coin, his attention given to the herbalist. “I think it’s the plants doing. They have this- well come see for yourself!” she cried before turning and running back to the village, followed by Lance who would pick up his pace.

Back in the town was a sight that even Lance wasn’t prepared for.

The animals had a purple alga like substance on them, glowing mushrooms appearing over various parts of their bodies. These animals were going insane, attacking and killing the villagers but what pushed Lance to act was the fact that these animals seemed like they were in agony.
“You poor beings… I will end your suffering…” He wiped a tear as he advanced into the village, ready for battle.

The biggest destruction and chaos seemed to be happening in the center of the town, so Lance started to make his way there immediately. On the way however he was stopped by a flock of chickens that seemed to fly in from nowhere and started to bombard him with attacks. The talons would scratch him twice causing a stinging pain on his check and hand.

    “Pumpkin Bomber…”

A pumpkin with a jack-o-lantern face would appear in his hand before he would lob it into the air, jumping back to not get hit in the blast before it fell and exploded, seemingly stunning the chickens. Out of the explosion, a chicken came flying out towards him. He would grab the chicken by the throat and staring at it in its eyes as it trashed around manically. He held back his tears as he tossed the chicken into the fray. After a second, he would cast another spell, vines appearing under his feet and spreading towards the stunned chickens, wrapping them up it their thorny embrace. He would waste no time in continuing his journey to the center of the village.

On the way there he saw multiple wolves, pigs, and other chickens with the same type of disease in them. It was truly war in the town and Lance couldn’t help but feel as though he was the only person who could get to the bottom of this. Nature was in danger and he would do whatever it took to protect it.

When he finally made it to the center of the village, he saw something out of a horror movie. A bear that was covered in the purple moss and the glowing mushrooms had taken over it’s back like it was a garden. The bear stabbed it claws into a helpless citizen before turning it’s face to Lance. The right side of the bears face was covered by the substance, probably not able to see out of its right eye.

The bear charged at Lance, ferociously growling as it ran. The spirit closed his eyes, took a deep breathe, and opened them again while wearing a sympathetic smile. “You just wanted to play didn’t you buddy?” he said calmly before nodding “Indeed… let’s play…”

A yellow squash would appear in his hands this time, but it acted the same way as he lobbed it into the air “Sticky melon!” he would exclaim as it fell right onto the charging bear, exploding and covering it in a sticky substance and slowing it down considerably.

He took this chance to run in a meet the bear face to face as he wanted to respect the enemy by giving it a physical fight. He would clench his hands into fists as he hopped around in front of the bear, confusing it before delivering a strong punch to its nose.

The bear would rear its head back in agony and stood on its hind legs, delivering a swipe of it’s claws into Lance’s arm, cutting it up badly. Lance would not let up though as he would deliver a kick to the bears side and jumped to combo with an uppercut. He finished his combo by delivering a kick to the bears stomach, causing it to lose balance and fall backwards.

The mage would waste no time in attacking again as he jumped backwards and delivering another pumpkin bomb and wrapping the bear in the harvest vines.

Lance stood in the now quiet town square and fell to his knees, gasping for air. He hated fighting nature and wished that humans could just live in harmony with it but there was no way that could ever happen, and he understood that.

After everything had quieted down, the herbalist would slink out from behind a building. “You did it!" she exclaimed to which Lance would just offer a silent nod. Noticing his reluctance, the herbalist’s gratefulness turned to concern “Lance. I’m going to be honest, this plant may be more dangerous than we thought. I’m going to ask for help from one of my science friends. You should do the same.” She said before handing him a pouch of jewels as thanks and walking off.
