It was late December in Fiore and the season for joy and festivities. Yule had begun and people were celebrating all over Fiore and Earthland. Various countries celebrated it differently - or not at all - but the idea was the same all around: a chance to cozy up, feast, and spend time with loved ones. It seemed every house was decorated in lights and wreaths. Children slid down any hill they could find on toboggans, their cheerful shrieks filling the air. The winter markets were chock full of citizens rushing to get food for Yule suppers. Meat, vegetables, and desserts - everything was selling in bountiful amounts. People on the streets could be seen bundled head to toe in warm clothes, their breaths visible in the dim winter sunlight. This winter in Fiore was as chilly as always, the snow building up as storm after storm breached the land. It wasn’t possible for anyone to walk about without at least a jacket and scarf and they had to watch out for slippery ice.

The Rune Knights were no exception to the celebrations of the season. Marshalls Serilda and Mythal had decided to host a Yule Formal for the Knights to celebrate the holiday and give everyone a chance to get together. The two had mentioned the idea to the Generals and Major Generals, and Beaux had eagerly offered to organize the event. Coming from Napedia, he was raised in the high society and knew what all it required to be a host. From decorations to food, lighting to music, Beaux was excited to show off the skills he had been taught.

It had taken weeks of preparation and testing to get the event organized. The Major General spent an entire week trying to find the perfect catering. Taste test after taste test had gone wrong, but at last he found a wonderful company based out of Rose Garden. Hiring staff for the event was less of a struggle, but still he came across a few employees who thought Beaux’s strict planning was ridiculous. The angel took this very seriously, maybe too much so. Every detail had to be perfect for his comrades and superiors. Meticulous planning meant for a fun evening for everyone else, despite the anxiety it gave Beaux. But he was determined, and his hard work had paid off.

Beaux stood at the back of the mess hall, which had been thoroughly cleaned and turned into a magnificent ballroom. The building had been full of bustling event employees in the days prior. All the cafeteria tables had been moved to another building to make room for circular tables and a temporary ballroom floor to be put in. Each table had been decorated with a wintery floral arrangement and had seats for about eight people. The ballroom floor was made of fine white pine wood and shone gloriously. Walls and support beams all around the room had been decorated with wreaths and ribbons, an ode to the season and the holiday. In a corner of the room, a band prepared and tested their instruments to play festive music throughout the night. From the ceiling, lacrimas generated fake magic snow that fell down into the room but disappeared before it could reach the tables or any people, giving the room a wintery scene.

At the head of the room, opposite where the Major General was standing, there was a small stage and podium. Serilda had requested that at the beginning of the night she had a place and moment to give a speech to the Rune Knights attending. Beaux had made especially sure the podium was the correct height and was decorated with a large glowing Rune Knight symbol. He wanted Serilda to look regal upon the stage. She likely would without any contribution of decorations, but the effort was made anyway. Behind the little stage loomed three massive pine trees. The middle one was the tallest, reaching almost all the way to the ceiling. It was decorated from top to bottom with tinsel, holly leaves, bundles of cinnamon bark, animal-shaped ornaments, and lights. Atop the tree sat a large star-shaped lacrima that let off a beautiful golden light. The two smaller trees were decorated only with lights.

Beaux pushed himself off the wall and strode to the stage where he would wait for Serilda and Mythal. The tall man was dressed in a beautifully detailed suit that he had picked out while shopping with Wren. Intricate blue designs colored the sleeves, shoulders, and edges of the white coat. Beneath it he wore a blue waistcoat that was the same blue color as his trousers. Instead of a tie, he wore around his neck a jabot - a ruffled piece of fabric. Beaux’s silver hair was styled to perfection.

As Beaux surveyed the final product, he was filled with excitement. All the stress and hard work had paid off thoroughly and he couldn’t wait to see everyone’s faces when they stepped into the room. He had arrived early to finish any last-minute preparations, but now it was time for people to start arriving. Comrades and their dates would be entering soon and he was excited to see those he knew and meet those he didn’t.

The angel waited near the stage for Serilda and Mythal as Rune Knights and their guests began to flood in. Chatter began to fill the room with a dull roar, interrupted only occasionally by bouts of raucous laughter from some of the privates. Music started to play from the band, soothing yet jovial. Beaux couldn’t keep the smile from his face.

    Seri Banner
Conviction never shames nor condemns us.
It calls us back to who we truly are.
The day of the Yule celebration had finally arrived, and Serilda felt that the Rune Knights had more than earned it.

Not long after things had finally started settling down after the Crimson Fang attack several months back, the Field Marshal had decided it was a wise idea to host a party for her soldiers. It seemed like a strange thing to take the time to plan, given that there were still trying to undo a lot of the damage that had been done. The headquarters for the Rune Knights had long since been repaired anew, but there was still a ton of paperwork left waiting to be filed, reports that were still missing, lost comrades that were still being grieved. It seemed like a bad time to be preparing an event so festive…

But that was exactly why Serilda knew it was important, necessary even. These men and women had been working nonstop to keep the military afloat, and they deserved praise and recognition for that. They deserved a chance to not feel the constant crushing weight of hardship on them, something to remind them that things were better now and they could feel free to start moving themselves on.

Beaux had done an utterly fabulous job with coordinating the event. While Serilda had more than enough money to pay for everything -- and she was fronting the cost of this from her own pocket, not drawing it from the Rune Knight coffers -- she had absolutely zero time to actually plan it herself. Major General Phacelia had been a veritable god send, as much as Serilda was loathe to use the term. When she expressed a need for assistance, he had wasted no time in volunteering himself. Not only did he have some experience with this kind of thing already, but he was very passionate about it. Standing in the mess hall now, Serilda saw that she had made the right choice in giving him creative reign over everything. She hardly even recognized the place!

She had shown up early to take a look and make sure Beaux hadn’t needed anything else from her. Then, she had popped back home to get herself ready, and to help Mythal get the girls ready. Serilda needed to be on time, as she was scheduled to give a speech before things could get fully started. The newly appointed Director wasn’t exactly as excited as she was about the night. Mythal wasn’t exactly much for dressing up all fancy and spending an evening around a whole crowd of people. However, he’d enjoyed himself during the ball in Minstrel way back when they had first started working together, and she had a feeling he would enjoy tonight as well.

Even Victoria had elected to join in, promising to be on her best behavior -- whatever that meant. Serilda was still wary of the nephilim that shared her soul, but the old woman had taken steps to rectify things between them, if small ones. As much as she would probably never admit it, the Seal of Conquest seemed to have built a certain amount of respect for both Serilda and Mythal in the days since she’d awoken and tried to commandeer Serilda’s body. They were tiny steps, but steps nonetheless. Victoria had even exchanged her typical armor for a dress tonight. It was a bit macabre for the setting, but she was making an effort so Serilda decided not to press the matter and just accepted the gesture for what it was.

Soon they arrived back at the hall, dressed and ready to get things started. Serilda had donned a floor length gown of midnight blue satin that hugged her frame until just past her hips before the skirt splayed out around her legs. The satin was covered by a layer of sheer tulle of the same color that was embroidered with delicate lace that covered the entire bodice and her arms, completing the look with off the shoulder chiffon sleeves. Her pure white hair that was nearly always pulled up in a severe bun was instead loose around her shoulders, a bit of loose curl giving it some elegance. There was no mistaking that she came from a wealthy, noble background. Every thread of her attire was highest quality, and she carried herself with such poise and grace that she might as well have been floating rather than walking.

When it was time, she nodded to one of the staff members that had assisted Beaux with putting everything together. He went to the podium and turned the microphone on to speak into it. “Ladies and gentlemen, if I could please have your attention.” The man waited momentarily for the talk to settle down and for attentions to be turned toward him. “Thank you for coming out tonight. As many of you are aware, this evening was sponsored by Marshal Sinclair and Director Ragnos. The Marshal would like to share a few words with all of you before things get started, so please give her a warm welcome.”

Serilda made her way up to the microphone and thanked the man for the kind introduction before turning toward those who had gathered. “Months back, a terrible tragedy befell the city of Era. Dark wizards in possession of more strength and numbers than the Rune Knights were prepared for attacked the Knights, the Magic Council, and even the innocent citizens of the city. The losses were… innumerable. Several hundred people lost their lives, and the forces of the Rune Knights were cut in half in nearly one fell swoop.”

“Many of you here tonight, like me, were not enlisted with the Rune Knights at the time of the attack, but happened to be in the right place at the wrong time. You risked your lives to help the Knights and the Council when they were falling, and it was because of your efforts that the enemy was driven back and eventually defeated. I know the citizens of Era were eternally grateful for your efforts. You had already done so much more than you needed to. But many of you decided that wasn’t enough, and you took another step and enlisted to fill the crippling need that the Knights had to build their ranks again.”

She paused for a moment, gathering her thoughts to make them as clear and powerful as possible. “We are only here tonight because of all of you. This city was saved because of you, and the military has grown radically back into a symbol of strength and protection because of the dedication and passion that each of you have shown toward building this army back up from almost nothing. I know things have not been easy. For a long time… it seemed pretty dire. Many of us, myself included, are still feeling those losses and trying to cope with what happened, trying to find the strength to carry on without being bogged down by the weight of everything that was done to us.”

“But it’s important to take the time to acknowledge how far we’ve come, and the work that has been done to come back up swinging. It’s important to remember why we’re here and what we live for. I want all of you to be as proud of yourselves as myself and Director Ragnos are of you. We could not have come this far without each of you. Tonight is about you. So please, enjoy yourselves. You have more than earned it.” Serilda gave them a sincere smile before nodding to one of the hosts that was standing beside the large hearth in the room. The man called upon his fire magic and used it to light the Yule log, signalling the official start of the evening’s festivities.

    #6960ec Melody's thought
_____Melody heard the speech, but honestly felt it applied more to everyone else that was there rather then herself. Hands still moved across the piles of paperwork she had taken along with her, every so often jumping pages in the book placed between the piles to check on different formatting rules for the reports she was dealing with. 'Paper knight' the sad but fitting name some of the others had given her as she worked drifted in her mind.

_____Melody was dressed for the event, she wanted to enjoy it, but her definition of enjoyment was different from the others. She wanted to have a happy vibe around her as she worked on the paperwork, and so far she felt such was happening. Fingers moving the papers to different stacks as she worked on the next set of them with a calm smile and no real focus on what was going on around her. She sat near the entrance of the mess hall, it was the first table she noticed and had space to set the piles of papers she carried down.

_____Though anyone who took notice of her entering only seemed to see her bring a single stack that was almost her height, but the time she set it down against the table several other stacks the same height seemed to appear from thin air. In truth it was just her using time magic to bring everything in at that single moment so she did not make countless trips and risk others asking if she needed help.

_____Sure getting help was fine, but all Melody was good for was paperwork and seeing as she agreed to finish all the piles she took into the event herself she wanted to see that through to the fullest herself. That meant bringing them in, organizing, filling out, double checking, triple checking, final touches, and mirror copy each and every report. So bringing them to where she would work on them was part of her job also.

_____So with a half happy, half cheerful hum she kept working on the paper sorting. Breaking them first into what branch they came from, seeing as she was asked by a number of people to help them out since she not only offered such, but only really dealt with the paperwork and background things other Rune knights might feel are to boring and not story worthy. It was all fine, everyone had a different view.

Post by Shane Stern 4th November 2019, 2:59 am

Shane stood to one corner of the mess hall that had been given a new lease of life as it was heavily decorated in accordance with the Yule festivities. Funny how it had only been half a year since the Rune Knights Headquarters had been attacked, just a week after he had signed up with the military organization after his former guild had been disbanded, and how different it was right now to be standing here. Marshalls Serilda and Mythal had explained it to the upper management of the Rune Knights that tonight was a night of celebration and gratitude to the numerous Rune Knights, and a well-earned night of relaxation for them. It was difficult to find any more generous superiors than the two Marshalls, with the costs of the entire night to be completely paid out of their own pockets.

And the speech by Marshall Serilda had been nothing but inspiring. He had seen the difference between the Rune Knights of old and the new era ushered in by the tough lady. With a complete reform to the system, Shane had found serving under the banner of the Rune Knights to be very fulfilling, that whatever he was doing was truly for the benefit of the people of Fiore. He had never been prouder to be one of them.

The soldier moved around the room, nursing a glass of whiskey that had already been the third of the night but there was no sign of intoxication to be seen on his face. Bearing a broad smile, the newly appointed General would mingle with his colleagues, engaging in small talk and sometimes into a full conversation. It was gratifying to know that his recent promotions hadn’t caused anything to change between him and his coworkers, as he made toast after toast, walking among them. By the time he had arrived to speak with his colleague Major General Beaux, Shane had been holding his sixth glass of whiskey, the alcohol barely touching upon his tolerance.

“You’ve done an amazing job with the place, Beaux! Wouldn’t have believed this was the mess hall if I hadn’t seen it before,” Shane complimented Beaux’s all-out effort for the Yule Ball. He was dressed in a dark blue suit, reminiscent of the one he had worn during a former assignment, with a similarly colored vest and white shirt beneath. Not one for bow ties, Shane had gotten a maroon tie for the night. As usual, Invicta was worn around his left wrist. He didn’t expect that there would be an attack on the HQ again with the mass of Rune Knights gathered here tonight, but it was already a habit for him.

Wren had been excited all day. For the first time ever she was ready for an actual ball. Given she hadn’t been even rich enough for an actual party back in Sailkia, she was going to make the best of this. She didn’t entirely know how to act at a ball, and was figuring she’d just go about and have fun with Beaux, unless he found himself occupied with other things or people. Maybe she should also get to know the other members of the Rune Knights too. She had met a few already, but she was sure she could meet many others. Maybe their friends too! The excitement was just killing her now and she couldn’t wait to get to the cafeteria at the headquarters, wanting to see how this Yule Formal would play out. She jogged down the hall carefully in her nice low, pink heels, till she reached the door.

She had pushed her way into the cafeteria quietly just as Field Marshal Sinclair had started to get up to the podium. She had quietly stepped to the side to not be hit by the door, Nanny sitting on the ground next to her and listening to her as well. She smoothed out the skirt of her dress as she listened awkwardly. She had joined fairly recently, so this speech wasn’t something that she felt pertained to her… in fact, now this whole Yule Formal didn’t seem like something SHE should attend. After looking around at all the decorations and how the ball looked and how well her friend had set it up, she bowed her head and looked down to her dress she was wearing.

With Beaux’s help, she was able to get herself a rather beautiful dress that didn’t make her look too much like a boy. It was a white and blue outfit that actually matched Beaux’s a bit. It had a high collar with some ruffles on them, a jabot Beaux had called it she believed, with some long, puffy sleeves. The skirt of the dress was a bit short, but it was flowy and still covered everything for her to keep her modest at least, going almost to mid thigh. She had on a pair of long socks that went up almost to her knees too. They felt rather comfy and were nice to the touch as she wore the heels. She wasn’t too comfortable with high heels, so she opted to have lower heels to walk around in still.

Nanny was also dressed up a bit. Her blue bow on her tail fluffed up, and even a nice blue bow around her collar with her bell pendant. Her fur was freshly brushed and she was, of course, acting as regal as ever.

It didn’t take Wren long, but when Serilda had finished her speech, she had glanced up and noticed Beaux. A gasp escaped her lips and quickly jogs over to him. She instantly jumped up and gave him a hug as she excitedly looked up to her friend. “The formal looks so beautiful!” She exclaimed before she let herself jump back down. Nanny had just caught up with her witch as she wasn’t expecting her to go running off, but didn’t seem too bothered as it was Beaux. She had padded over to the angel and was walking around his legs and rubbing up on them, begging him for attention now. The witch had looked over to the other that was near her friend, and she smiled brightly. She met him before… Shane, right? Yeah! General Stern! “Hey!” She says as she was absentmindedly twiddling with the skirt of her dress.

Honestly… she had no clue what to do at this formal. She even almost forgot about her being a little bit hungry, till her stomach grumbled at her a bit, and she began to blush.

Gisen had been a mess of mixed feelings when it came down to the day of the Yule. She was excited to be able to participate in something like this. She honestly always had wanted to enjoy being a part of a festivity like the Yule ball was going to be. However, she never was quite the social butterfly type and the idea of being around so many people was a very intimidating factor for her. Even now, as incredibly excited she was for this event, she had the butterflies fluttering in her stomach enough to register as a 2.0 earthquake. Was she really ready for this? It was a question that she had hang heavily on her mind over the last week prior to today and as much as she wanted to say she was to try and motivate her, she had that twinging thought in the back of her mind that was telling her she could always mess up. That thought of second guessing pulsated in her head and the panic was growing more and more on her face.

Thankfully, she snapped her attention away from her thoughts as she watched a bright, cheery face pop up from behind the general as she'd stood in front of a full body mirror. "Stop being worried, Gigi! You'll look great! And you won't do half bad around the others too!" The angel laughed, trying to spark her mood to rise with a bit of humor. It did little to really do much but a small crack in her lips to form the start of a smile, but the spirit quickly popped back behind her and Gisen was left to stand idly around again while she was helped out. This just felt to be more of Raphael's style in having be her guardian angel in fashion more than anything else, but at times even her choices weren't really the right ones. If it wasn't for the babysitter of a Sylph whom took a backseat for this, or so the two thought.

Applying the last touches to her work, the angel spun around the elemental and with arms spread out, she was happily finished. "Ta-da!~" She cheered. Turning around, she gazed around the whole outfit and finally, she had smiled and hugged the angel. "Thanks, Raphy. I like it, a lot!" Just merely enjoying the restraint in her hugs was a surprise enough to not be able to speak, but now she wanted to walk her there, mainly to take a gander at the others. As they stepped out from their quarters, they were met with a surprise. "S-Silvia? Is that you?" Both girls jaws dropped as they looked on at the normally laxed Sylph. She stood with Eliyares, whom had helped her into this very elegant looking outfit and her hair for once being left down, fluffed and done in a light wave, that laid out behind her back, rather than the usual low ponytail that she would leave over her shoulder. "S-Stop staring, you two..." She blurted out, her cheeks as red as cherries. "Hurry along. You don't want to be late." The water spirit ushered, giving a light nudge to the sylph and after a slight stumble, she began to walk forward, walking off with Gisen.

"They grow up so fast..!" Raphael commented with a sniffle, as though ready to cry with joy.
"Oh shut it, drama queen. I'm going to nap." Eli replied, turning around and leaving the angel to her own accord.

Arms locked with one another, Gisen and Silvia entered the hall and were blown away instantly. Once a simple mess hall was now decorated into an elegant ball room and they weren't really expecting this much work, but when someone went "all out", apparently this is what it meant. They approached the area where someone had begun to announce the calling of Serilda to the podium and the two approached closer to them. They both watched silently and intently as she had given her little speech about the attack on the HQ months back. It was a hell of a fight for sure, but glad to have been there then and still here now, she smiled and seeing so from her had made Silvia smile as well. She hadn't been this happy since Lamia Scale, so to have this making her happy was enough for her. It was still concerning to her that she had not recovered all of her memories, but enough where she could be herself and them some apparently was enough to make her happy, then the sylph could be just as glad.

Once the log of the Yule was lit and the festivities began, everyone began to socialize among one another. Yet, Gisen wanted to express her own token of thanks. After Serilda was finished, the two girls would approach her and with a bright smile, she would cheerfully call her name out. "Seri!" Were formalities supposed to be around in this type of situation? Honestly, neither the elemental nor Sylph could tell, so it was just better to ask for forgiveness than permission. "Your speech was great! And I never really got a chance to like, thank you for everything you've done for me since we met." As Gisen happily laughed and giggled on like a happy child, Silvia had broken their interlocked arms and gave the Marshall a full curtsy. "And it's nice to see you again, Ms. Sinclair. I love the work everyone put in to make this place so festive." Honestly, part of her was curious if Eli did such a good job in fixing her up from her usual look to make her almost unrecognizable, but she figured Serilda would be a sharp enough tack to pick it out.

    Director Mythal Ragnos.

It should have been the biggest thing to him. To most people, it was a promotion and a level of respect that was more than a dream – it was a fantasy. He’d been elevated to a tier within the Rune Knights that many would never see, a place that answered to no one save for Serilda and the Magic Council. Where he had just been in charge of Special Operations, he was now an operational commander over every division within their ranks. It was a place he never asked for and, truly, one he would have refused not even a few months ago.

But given everything that had happened, what with the psycho woman that had attacked the senator and Lux’s disappearance, responsibility was far more important than ambivalence. And so he had been raised, given a new title, a new set of duties, the opening to have his own secretary, a brand new office and a new requirement to actually wear a uniform. The last tidbit had been the hardest to convince the Darkness King of; he greatly enjoyed being able to wear his common clothes among the headquarters as a Special Operative. But now that Shane and Beaux had filled the void he had left, it seemed he had little choice. And yet…

None of that was on Mythal’s mind. Even as he suited himself up for the ball in his most regal outfit, choosing to go for something more uniform than anything else. The only extra item he didn’t attach was the pauldrons; the crown-shaped shoulder ordainments that would simply get in the way. He took a hazy look at himself in the mirror, his mind racing at a million miles a minute. He reached carefully into his pocket and extracted the fabric box, holding it in front of him with the care one might show a newborn babe. He took a shuddering breath and then steeled himself, managing to find his normal complexion within a moment. He dropped the box all of a sudden, the container falling towards the ground. There it disappeared into the shadow hole he had made, the pathway quickly shutting itself from the world. He couldn’t take any chances here…

He helped Serilda dress Grappa and Jellisha in their best outfits, more than a little proud of the girl’s first big event within the Knights. Once they were all polished and prepared, they made their way to the hall that had been utterly transformed into a lavish ballroom. Even Mythal had to admit; Beaux had gone above and beyond in the designs. The Spec Op General had taken to the task like a cat to milk, eager to assist where Serilda had been too busy to plan. And now the fruit of his labor was present for all to see. As the Knights made their way into the hall, each one of them dressed to the nines, the Darkness King couldn’t help but admire just how… well, magical this all felt.

Soon enough it was time to formally welcome everyone and begin the festivities. Rather than have both of them go to the podium and make a speech, Serilda was more than happy to be the one that addressed the hall. Mythal stood just past her shoulder, doing his best to look as professional as possible. Even now, in this new position, he hated having this many eyes facing his way. But he kept his mouth shut about it, listening quietly as Serilda spoke of the trials, tribulations and triumphs that had come to the Rune Knights over the past couple of months. As she wrapped it up, she signaled the assistant to use his magic and ignite the Yule log, officially beginning the ball for all.

Not yet… it’s too early, he told himself calmly. As the men and women of the party began to go about their business, Mythal went to Serilda’s side. “I’m going to get myself a drink. Wine for you?” he asked her, smiling sincerely. Once she confirmed her drink order, he would give her hand a quick squeeze and head over to the bar. Despite his limited drinking habits lately, he was in dire need of some liquid courage tonight. A full glass of scotch was handed to him and he took a solid moment to take two hefty gulps. He glanced over to the side and spotted Shane, Beaux and Wren all gathered together in conversation.

After getting the drink for Serilda, he walked on over to the group. “Shane, Beaux, Wren,” he said in greetings, nodding to each one of them. “I gotta tell ya, Beaux, you sure know how to take the mess out of the hall. This place looks damn good,” he said, nodding as he looked around. He paused for a moment, fumbling around in his head for something to talk about. Too bad his mental attention was focused on literally everywhere else. “So uh… you guys excited for the new year?”

    Name: Luna Fennec

    Rank: B

    HP:400/400

    MP:400/400

Formals were just that to Luna, a formality. However, that was usually because she couldn't think of anyone that might want to keep her company. Recently, however, she had been thinking about someone she had recently gone on a job with. They were not exactly a member of the Rune Knights, but she really didn't want to spend another Christmas alone. She didn't know if the feelings were mutual or not, but she did happen to like this person a lot more than most of the people she worked with, so that was a start. Getting the contact information from her after their recent job hadn't been much trouble. However, waiting for a response to her invitation was killing the poor fox girl. On the day of the event, Luna showed up in her uniform, which she had recently had to cut a third tail hole in. It seemed as though she were evolving right in front of her guild-mates. The stronger she became, the more tails she seemed to have. Hers was an odd biology, with this particular gene mutation. However, she was proud to show off a new tail when she sprouted one.

Luna got a good look at the interior of the building that the event was being held in. It was well decorated, and well catered. She couldn't help but notice that some of her coworkers, and bosses were already there. She really didn't want to talk to anyone above her rank after the Doppo debacle, but so long as nobody called her by the wrong name, she would at least be polite, and go through the motions required of her at such events. She hoped that Sakura wouldn't have any trouble finding the place, and that she realized that it was a formal event. More importantly, however, she hoped that Veronica didn't get the urge to grope either of them during the event. It would be rather awkward to explain to someone from outside the unit why another woman was grabbing them in such ways, and Luna really didn't want a repeat of the Fall Equinox event. It had been rather embarrassing to be groped in front of a general like that, especially one that she kind of liked. Still, General Ceostra was not to be her focus this evening. No, she would focus entirely on Sakura, if she chose to show up.

Luna's nervousness wasn't exactly difficult to detect, as she had a habit of wearing her heart on her sleeve. She just didn't want Sakura to think that she or the others were strange in any way. At least, not in any way that would drive her off. Of course, given the way that their shared job had gone, she believed that Sakura already thought of her as strange. After all, for her to lose her cool like that was obviously not part of her training, or the plan for the job. Still, it got done, and she got paid, so she couldn't really complain, other than that it had ended so soon. She enjoyed Sakura's company quite a bit. She was like a breath of fresh air compared to some of the other Rune Knights. Still, Luna was a little nervous about inviting her. But, the damage had already been done. All she could really do was hope that everyone behaved themselves...and that Doppo didn't give Sakura a new name right away.

Post by Dela 8th November 2019, 7:10 pm

Putting in effort was the pits.

Fussing with curling her hair and doing a bit of makeup was more annoying than anything, but she felt compelled to look good today. Slipping into her slinky white dress did bring a wicked smile to her lips though. Her sister would absolutely crap if she saw this one, though honestly most of her wardrobe would incite some sort of immodesty-induced stroke. It hugged every curve like a glove and the slit reached all the way up to her hip, making choosing the right panties quite a challenge. Thank goodness for the modern evolution of women's undergarments, otherwise, she'd be going commando on today's excursion out into the public. The dress was in no way appropriate for the wintery bluster of the holiday season, but as usual, Dela just said screw it. The low cut top half with the spaghetti-thin halter straps made the dress just jump out to her, and it did have quite a bit of fabric. Her whole stomach was covered. It'd been ages since that had happened. And it nearly reached her ankles, too. Some leg and cleavage were the least of her skin exposed sins. With the invention of indoor climate control, she was certain the Yule Ball would be nice and roasty toasty inside since it was the mess hall and she'd never noticed it being too hot or too cold regardless of the season.

Once her strappy white shoes were on her feet, it was time to meet her date. What she'd been thinking when she invited him still eluded her, especially since she'd had no intention of ever attending such a frilly, uptight soiree. Playing the new Pouch Beast game was much more her speed, splayed out on her bed amongst her plushies in nothing but a camisole and her underwear. In place of whatever high-end food the ball would have, she'd have happily dined on pizza from her favorite place in Era, Mama Marinara's Pizza. Yet, here she was meeting the stunning goofball outside the doors fo the ball, doing her best to not to look him over. A quick glance at the man's face was enough. She was hoping to see if he had any reaction to her own attire, but dared not gaze too long or she'd notice too much about him. With a crooked smile, she walked slightly ahead of him. "Good, you're here. Come on, we're almost late," she urged, stepping into the winter wonderland. It was absolutely gorgeous as if she'd stepped into a world way too pure and lovely. It felt like nothing was wrong in the world in here like she didn't have various black designs etched into her skin to remind her just how many times she'd died trying to free herself from the curse while marching closer and closer to her final end. Serilda was already stepping up to the podium to speak, so she kept her feelings hushed. Dela lingered with Cillian at the back of the ballroom, where they'd pause until she was finished with her rousing speech.

Once the marshal finished, Dela released a deep sigh. "Well, after a speech like that, I feel like I should leave," Dela commented with a dry laugh, feeling even more out of place than before. Still, the blonde didn't really turn to look at him, afraid of becoming flustered. "I had just joined before the attack. Other than directing some panicked townspeople how to safely evacuate, all I did was die. Some little kid killed me," the Rune Knight explained, instinctively reaching up to touch her chest where the rose had embedded itself and sucked the life out of her. Not her worst death, but still unpleasant and fresh.

"Welp, we are already here. Let's see what kind of food and drinks they have."

    xxx/xxx words || --- || job info/job sign-up || short note here
It was here! The date of the ball which the two had been anticipating for so long! Ever since the date of its inception, the girls had been eager for a chance to really get out and meet more of their fellow Rune Knight members! Jellisha had suggested the idea to her sister while in the mess hall one day. "We spend every waking moment with Seri and Mythal. So at the ball, we should try and spend it with some of the other people." Grappa had agreed, of course, finding the idea of chatting the night away with her friends all the more enticing. Besides, the two Marshalls deserved a night to themselves. They hardly needed the company of two energetic children to keep them company. The attire for the evening was as fancy as ever, keeping with the theme of trying for a level of elegance on par with Seri and Mythal. Grappa wore a stunning dark blue dress that gave off a slight gothic look complete with gloves and dangling earrings. They still annoyed her at times, smacking her on the cheek if she were to crane her head too much in a single movement. She even paid a visit to the hair stylist to complete that cute little look she desired so much. Jellisha's dress gave off a royal vibe, the azure flowing layers following behind her and leaving her hands free. Sure the fluffy layers were annoying and her feet hurt from the heels but she looked like a true queen.

The two entered the ball side by side, ready to take the guild by storm. Members of the Rune Knights and some not would be strewn about the hall, mingling with one another as the fully transformed would be decked in the holiday spirit. "Wow, this place looks amazing!" The girl's eyes were filled with elation at the sights of the hall. Whoever decorated this was skilled in their craft. Jellisha's eyes focused on the food present, taking her sister's hand and dragging her over towards the many dishes set out for people to help themselves to. "The food looks pretty good too." They piled food onto a plate for the both of them, snacking on whatever their hands could get a hold of. After a few mouthfuls of sweets and fish, Serilda stepped out and gave a rousing speech for the people of the guild. The girls watched with anticipation and awe, smiling to themselves as the heartfelt words reached their little ears. They could recall so long ago when they had just arrived in the mess hall. Eating fish with the two Marshalls and the declaration to learn magic and become the greatest mages ever. Of course, being Rune Knights was a welcome stop on their destination. They owed so much to the guild and their guardians but little enough to repay them for it.

As the speech ended, the twins applauded Serilda and would go about the hall in search of people to speak with. Their eyes scanned around for such a good party before Jellisha's eye gazed upon a cat. Its fur was a black color with a blue ribbon on the end of its tail and a cute bell around its neck. The girl walked over to the orange haired woman that the cat was near and then reached out to try and pet the animal. "Hey there." Maybe the cat might pick up on the fact that Jellisha was also a cat like her, albeit one with the power of flight and in human shape. Grappa had been distracted and came back only in time to watch her sister wander over without her. She quickly followed after and came to a halt by the trio around them.

WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?

The guild had a new recruit every day and Vera was one of many. She hardly stuck out unless spoken to and her existence there was a lingering question mark, but all the time in the world provided a bizarre opportunity for her to experiment. She dedicated herself laboriously to a curious study of poisons, a field she never thought she would be building a tower of books over. She interested herself in the very curious case of a boy and what she assumed were  his societal shortcomings, and advised quite adversely time and time again that he was blessed - to not have to interact with people. The low-ranked private often said he wasn’t going to miss anything, that he was fated to be perfectly alone and be peachy keen about it. Unbeknownst to Vera Jayne,  his curse had been a lifelong struggle.

But from the little he hinted to her,  she gathered he did not have the luxury of venturing out without seeing a bunch of bodies hit the floor. She might have had an inkling that through no fault of his own he distanced himself from others. It might have been in the way her health plummeted whenever he came too close, or just in the way he spoke of the upcoming ball like it was an intangible thing. His wistfulness was a sight too familiar to her and had so clearly struck a chord that Vera skipped most meals and breaks just to see some progression in the cause. She wouldn’t admit to it, but her sudden determination was fueled by sentimental time in her life.

When she was his age she made her first real friend, one that wasn't furniture, family or a barely conscious bumbling drunk in a wedding dress (rest in peace, Sparkles the Clown), where they played together and did most everything together. It was in the simple pleasures of friendship, back to when the world was wonderful, that she discovered empathy as the driving force behind the many sleepless nights and the constant failures she endured with Albafica. And even now she was still ambitious, albeit looking uglier than ever.  Despite her misgivings, she had a rather impressive academic background and could function, even with half a brain. Maybe. Speaking of which, food had entered her dreams, an unusual sign of the munchies. She had fallen asleep waiting on Shorty to retrieve a key ingredient.

With a sudden jolt, she looked at the semi-crumpled note in her hand and gasped as she looked it over, mighty disheveled and bleary-eyed, and then pulled a sticky note off her forehead to get better reacquainted with the task at hand. But disappointment followed close upon the heels of the first doubt to flash across her mind. If Albafica was hopeful, this flower was far from being a permanent cure, and there was too much against them for it to be a suitable remedy.

“I invented something that works! Said Vera and Shorty never.” Sighed the sleepy imbecile, opening the lab table’s spacious compartment. Instead of welcoming the gown inside it with open arms, consequently, she thought about returning it and getting a full refund. Then again, it really was beautiful and soft. Not a muscle moved after she  held it out in front of her for further consideration.  As Vera sat down in her chair, she heard someone enter and turned in the direction of the noise

“Dude, you’re about to enter the most anticlimactic and disappointing moment of your life. Are you ready?” Walden cheered, tossing the expensive dress over her shoulder to meet the little boy halfway across the room.

The air was filled with festivities. The grand Rune Knight yule was just around the corner. It had been the talk of the town for the past month, Tam recalled how excited his fellow knights were for the event. Chatters of what people would wear, who they would bring as a date, and all sorts of cheerful talk floated about in the lab and on patrol. Tam could not help but feel the excitement rubbing off onto him. This was probably because this was a new experience for him. This was because he had never been to a party at such a big scale. Granted, due to the sudden reveal of Tams apparent heritage… there were a few souls willing to teach an uncultured island boy such as himself the inner workings of what it meant to be a gentleman.

Tam wore his standard black Rune Knight uniform as he checked his hair in the rearview mirror of his car. He shifted gears causing the yellow behemoth to roar through the streets. The yellow dieselpunk muscle car rumbled as it slowed down stopping at an open area a few meters away from the Rune Knights headquarters. Tam parked the car, he got out and made his way to the other side of his Macgyvered vehicle. He opened the door and held his hand out for his date for the evening.

“Hey… are you okay?” Tam asked as he looked at his date with concern. “You don’t need to be scared. I’m right here. Plus I have a couple of friends in there waiting for us.” Tam smiled trying to reassure the girl that sat in the passenger seat if his car. Tam glanced at the clock on the dashboard of his car. They had plenty of time to party the night away. He turned to his date and gave her a reassuring nod. “Ready to to go?”

    Seri Banner
Conviction never shames nor condemns us.
It calls us back to who we truly are.
A polite round of applause followed her speech, and everyone returned to their conversations and festivities. Serilda turned to walk off stage with Mythal, giving him a smile. She knew he hated wearing uniforms and such, but boy did it look really good on him. There was something about a man in a tailored suit or uniform that drove her wild. Unfortunately, it only served to remind her how long it had been since the two of them had sex. Their privacy was all but lost with the appearance of Lux and Victoria, their constant companions whether they liked it or not. Surprisingly, Victoria hadn’t been too much of a problem since the first encounter. The aged woman had mellowed out a lot over the last few months as she and Serilda had found an understanding of one another. Or at least, enough of one to have some kind of working relationship. The nephilim had made it quite clear that she would happily give the two some privacy whenever they wanted it.

    Lux on the other hand…

The Seal of Light had been a near constant thorn in Mythal’s side, and honestly Serilda felt bad for the other slayer. He certainly seemed to have drawn the shortest straw in what was already a pretty shitty pile of straws. Lux was invasive, and worse he was harder to be controlled. Victoria’s ability to manifest relied solely on Serilda’s will to grant her a body. Lux, however, was a being of light that could come and go as he pleased, and he had tried to crop up a number of times when the two of them tried to enjoy some privacy. The result was an awful lot of depression from Serilda at not being able to be with the man she loved as intimately as she’d have liked. She hid it well. She almost always hid her emotions expertly. However, there was no hiding it from Mythal, and worse there was little that either of them could do about it at the moment.

So, she had to do her best to admire Mythal looking exceptionally regal while ignoring the ache her body felt from it. “Champagne, please. Thank you.” Serilda still hadn’t reacquired her taste for wine since her drunken fiasco what felt like ages ago. She no longer was repulsed by the smell of it, but she still couldn’t bring herself to drink it yet. Giving him a small kiss on the cheek, she let him head to the bar while she turned at the sound of her name.

In most other formal circumstances, Serilda might have preferred to have been greeted by her title first, if only for formality’s sake, but there were a few people that were exceptions to this rule and her combat general was one of them. The Voidwalker’s smile brightened. “Gisen!” Serilda met the earth elemental with a hug, her blue eyes then lighting on Gisen’s spirit friend. “Oh, and Silvia, you’re here as well! I almost didn’t recognize you. It’s great to see you again. Thank you so much for coming.”

Serilda really hadn’t gotten to spend as much time with Gisen as she’d have liked since they both started working with the Knights. They saw one another a lot, obviously, but very little of their day to day work was actually spent doing any jobs or assignments together. Gisen complimented her on the speech, and Serilda thanked her humbly for it. “You’ve done more than enough to thank me, Gisen,” she assured the bunny eared woman. “You’ve put in so much work helping Mythal and I get this place back in order when it was on the verge of falling apart. If anything, I need to be thanking you... which, well, I guess is the whole point of tonight.” Serilda smirked a little at her own dry humor.

“Isn’t it gorgeous?” she asked Silvia when the spirit commented on how well the mess hall had been outfitted for the event. “I can’t take any credit for this at all. Major General Phacelia organized everything himself. He knew I wouldn’t have had the time and apparently he loves putting together stuff like this so he offered to take it over. Letting him do so was clearly the best choice I’ve made all year.” Turning a bit, she pointed Beaux out for Silvia where he was standing near the bar talking to a few others, including Mythal. “You should find time to tell him how much you love what he put together. I’m sure it would make his night.”

“How have you two been? We haven’t really gotten the chance to talk since the attack. And really even then we didn’t get to catch up very much. What’s been going on for the two of you lately? Anything new or exciting? Have you been able to find any clues about your lost memories..?”

Even though my life hasn't been all that great

      946/946 WORDS

    THEME SONG

I have seen war, famine; witnessed the genocide. Have seen the changes in human nature and history, and I am still here, standing alone. Til the end, I will be there too. To witness the endless carnage, to live this harsh reality. Cause I have been cursed, Cursed with immortality.
Putting in effort was the pits.

There were certainly times where Cillian was more than willing to put a little work in for something that he wanted or was particularly fixated on. Usually this involved digging up dead bodies or doing something to get himself in trouble. Outside of those times, however, he was a pretty lazy guy that didn’t particularly enjoy going out of his way for most things. Going to some big fancy ball wasn’t exactly at the top of his list of favorite activities, but here he was. He’d been planning on just going in what he normally wore, not out of any sense of spite for the occasion but because he just hadn’t really stopped to think about his attire.

Well, Laverne was going to have none of that. The little old woman that had taken him in months back was all too pleased with the idea of Cillian having been invited to a big fancy shindig by a young Rune Knight woman. The whole situation tickled her pink, and she’d asked an exhausting number of questions about Dela, most of which revolved around trying to ascertain what level of romance there was between the two of them. Laverne didn’t exactly know a whole lot about Cillian’s past. She certainly didn’t know how old he was or that he was a necromancer. It was kind of difficult to explain to her that romance wasn’t exactly something that he had much interest in, so he just went along with it, answering her questions but taking the time to impress that he and Dela were just friends.

And then that process repeated all over again when Laverne found out about Vera. Boy, old women were like terriers with a bone when it came to gossip and dating.

She’d forced him to go out shopping with her, finding an exceptionally dapper white suit for him to wear that would match what Dela planned on wearing. The lapels and some of the trim on the coat was gold, as was the hem of the pants at his ankles. Beneath the jacket was a rich royal blue vest over a lighter shirt and tie, all of which popped exceptionally vibrant against the white. Truth be told he looked like he belonged in such regal looking attire, but Cillian felt pretty out of place in it. It had been a very, very long time since he’d worn formal clothing, or even a tie around a closed collared shirt. Hell, he barely even wore shirts.

As he followed Dela inside, he tugged lightly at the collar in discomfort, completely oblivious to the fact that the little blonde was sending quite a number of subtle, unspoken cues that she was interested in his attention. She looked gorgeous, of course, and a small part of his dull mind registered this in a subconscious level, but he’d gone for so long without really putting much thought into such things that it had really become a habit to not actively notice them. Still, while he made no readable reaction for Dela to feed off of, the quick glance would be enough to note that he had, at the very least, looked… a first for him in quite a while.

The behavior likely came from his recently gained knowledge that Dela actually suffered from a similar affliction as him: she couldn’t die. In over four hundred years, she was the first person he’d ever met that also kept coming back from the dead every time they were killed. Perhaps that was really what had driven him to come here tonight, the sense that maybe, just maybe, he actually had the possibility to form a connection with someone that wouldn’t be around for only a fraction of his never ending lifespan. At least, that’s what he wanted to tell himself, but the truth was he had actually grown rather fond of the sassy Knight’s company. They had formed a rather unlikely friendship out of the weirdness they’d been exposed to together, and right now that meant more to him than even he realized.

He stood next to Dela and listened to the speech that the Marshal gave, a stern looking woman that carried herself well. In truth, Cillian knew very little about what the woman was talking about. He knew about the attack in Era, of course -- something that big had made national news. However, the finer details of everything were lost to him as he’d never really researched it. He was surprised at the end of the speech when Dela admitted that she was there. Not just that, but that she’d been killed. He peered at her with a baffled, but amused look as he followed her over to one of the many rows of tables laden with food. “Wait, a kid killed you? That sounds like a story worth listening to. Oooo...”

As they approached a table his eyes lit on a couple of the dishes, his fingers wiggling in front of him in excitement. Food was one of his favorite things, a fact of which Dela was well aware at this point, and he was eager to see how well an organization like the Rune Knights catered. As they each grabbed a plate and started shamelessly piling on the goodies, he asked her, “So how exactly did you wind up in the military anyway?” given Dela’s penchant for not liking either work or danger, it both amused and interested him that she picked a profession that required her to constantly be exposed to both.
I figure that if I live long enough, something good might happen.

༺Rune Knights Yule Formal༻ Empty Re: ༺Rune Knights Yule Formal༻

Post by Katsumi 14th November 2019, 4:29 pm

Katsumi smoothed her dress down. Again. Not that there was any need. The blue fabric clung to her curves - not that there was much at the moment. She'd gotten back into old habits of focusing on her work too much. Meals would pass her by without so much as a thought. Her body was wasting away again after all her hard work. Katsumi did the bare minimum to make sure she had enough muscle for jobs and engineering work. That was it.

Now she stood in front of the doors to the mess hall. Behind this, there was a party of some sort. A chance to get out of her workshop, meet new people. The Rune Knight was scared out of her mind. This wasn't her scene. She'd rather lay in bed playing video games. Failing that, holed up in her workshop tinkering on her inventions. There were a few caseloads to finish from her transfer but... she didn't want to do those. One was for her ex. Katsumi raised her hands. She almost grabbed her head, ruining her hairdo. The hours of work that had gone into it were the only reason she stopped.

Instead, Katsumi lightly tapped her cheek. "Buck up! You can step in, say hi to a few people and leave. No biggie!" She hoped it was that easy anyway. Now if only she could have a weapon by her side. That would bring her the biggest comfort. Maybe she should have worn her battle skirt. Shaking her head, Katsumi stepped through the doors before she could think her way out of it.

The mess hall was gorgeous. The swordswoman's eyes sparkled as she looked around the room. Absolutely fabulous. Alright, this mini-quest was totally worth it. There weren't many people around the room that she recognized. Shane Taichou stood with two other males. One held a feminine beauty rather than handsome. The male accentuated that fact with a little skirt rather than a suit. Cute how the two men had harmonized their outfits. She might wander on over later. Mythal was the other person she recognized. He was standing next to a white-haired woman who appeared rather stern. The two of them looked like an impressive couple. If that kiss on the cheek wasn't anything more than friendly that is. There were a few other people standing close. The swordswoman decided not to go bother them. It was likely Mythal didn't even remember the young woman he'd helped out in the arena.

Katsumi looked around trying to spot the Field Marshal or new Director. Tales of the two had vaguely circulated about her. She'd only half listened. Now she was curious as to what the two looked like. They were meant to be the head of the RK after all. Perhaps the person hidden behind stacks of paper was one of them? Who did paperwork at a big ball like this? The swordswoman took tiny unsure steps into the room. What to do? What to do? She'd never been good at interacting with people. Her hands curled around the hem of her dress. The fabric was worried as Katsumi tried anxiously to figure out the best course of action.

Shane was quite surprised that the Director that he had thought of looking for appeared out of nowhere, approaching their small group after Wren had jumped on Beaux before settling down. The blonde Knight’s face was suddenly filled with confusion, as he took a quick glance up and down Wren’s attire. His brows furrowed slightly, the left eyebrow raised as he tried to dig around in his mind, as though looking for a long lost memory. The most recent activity they had done together was the pumpkin picking turned disaster during Halloween. It hadn’t been too far away, but Shane couldn’t remember what he was trying to pick up. Wasn’t Wren a boy? What was he doing in a dress?

And then it hit him. He figured he needed to speak to the kid about the ball. Shane had no biases or prejudice against Wren, but he figured if that was what the kid really wanted, then maybe he could lend him some money to speed up the process. It was rather saddening that he was a girl born to a boy’s body, and with the salary as a low-ranked Rune Knight, it would be a long journey for Wren before he completed his transformation. After making up his mind within that short space of few seconds, Shane was already relieved of that concern and the smile reappeared on his face.

“Good evening, boss. It’s been very challenging this year, with so many changes happening in the Rune Knights. But as one who had already joined and put up with the former administration, comparing what we have achieved in this year alone really sets up my expectations for the next year. We’ve got so many more new recruits now, brimming with talent. I hope to do better too. What about you guys? Any major plans?”

As he finished speaking, Shane downed the contents of his sixth glass of whiskey in a single gulp.

_____Melody was happy everyone seemed to be having a good time, though she felt bad she was guessing this mostly from how she could overhear bits and pieces of conversation and the laugh or giggle at times also. It allowed her to work with somewhat of a smile as she finished writing in another damage report, then moved onto the mission report with a slower then normal pace. She disliked these, but at times some forgot to fully fill them out or do it properly so she was given them.

_____Hands moving to remove one glove as she carefully took held of the paper and closed her eyes allowing a magic circle to form, or rather glow under the skin of her hand. Sure to some her hand seemed to just be glowing white, and her outfit choice allowed that to be hidden rather well, but in truth it was her magic tracing back along the rope of time and her switching goals when the person who submitted the paper was presented.

_____It was the perk of being a time mage, the ability to look back on time and follow it and the paths it had taken. Sure she was still sitting with the paper in her hand, but her mind was drifting alongside the person who had failed to fully write out thier report so she could get the missing details. Humming alongside them before she was shown WHY the report had missing time and turned pure red as she returned to the present and moved the paper to the far side of the table covering her eyes.

"No... Not a chance... I don't care if there is something else that might actually be needed... that... that... knight... needs to do his paperwork... or have... his... 'catcher'... fill it out... even if the two took the job together... there are some things... others should not be allowed to see..."

_____Melody's mind rambled on as she covered her eyes trying to get the image from her mind. Sure she had no issues with male and male relationships, it was just the whole fact she got to witness part of it and that was personal information. Mumbling to herself as she fumbled to get a new report and focused on something else to pull her mind from the scene so she would not try and twist it and add something similar into her book. the thought making it harder to focus on the remaining work she still had as she cursed under her breath.

What a colorful night. Brynn sat in the speeding car of Tamlin, watching the night sky pass by them. She was in a beautiful dress that the man had helped her procure ever since arriving back in more human company. They came over a slight bump as the girl jumped a bit as the frills would go flying everywhere. She cast a gentle smile at her date for the yule ball while rubbing her right arm. This world was so much more than what she had been told back at the lab. Such interesting people, not at all as horrific or monstrous as they had been made out to be. The hum of the engine kept the two of them company during the dusk ridden ride towards the Rune Knights quarters. After a few more minutes, it came to a halt outside and Tamlin left to open to the door for her on her side of the vehicle.

"Ah-I am okay." Bryn said, placing her hand in Tamlin's while he helped her step out of the vehicle and land upon the grassy earth below them. Her feet shook while in these heels, given to her by the person whom had crafted the dress for her. Of course due to having little to no experience with balls of any kind, Brynn had to fight to even stay upright in these things. "Just...These are very hard to walk in." Tamlin must have sensed there were other things on her mind, and he was right. This would be her first major function with a room full of people, and she was already sensitive to the world around her. What if she embarrassed Tamlin here? He would never live it down. Her mind was beginning to race with doubts and questions but Tamlin had managed to slow her head from declining into despair. She returned his cheeky little smile and gave a nod.

    "Yes, I am ready."

The two set off from their ride towards the building the yule ball would be held in. Brynn kept her hand locked within Tamlin's, mainly to balance herself but just some extra courage to get her through the night. Her golden irises peered into the darkness while the building they approached would have people swarming in and out of it. It was beautiful in a way, as Brynn and Tamlin walked into the ball as the door was held open for them. They entered and Brynn's eyes immediately locked onto the table of food and such. Her sweet tooth craved sustenance and only the chocolate taste would be able to crave these hungers. "So...many people here. They look happy. Not like what I thought people were like." Tamlin might recall when they first met how she kept quite the distance from him in fear of what other people would be like. It had taken quite some time for the two of them to grow close to the point where Brynn could touch him without recoiling in fear. She smiled at Tamlin, offering his tanned hand a gentle squeeze.

"I am happy to be here with you, Tamlin. I will do my best."

༺Rune Knights Yule Formal༻ Empty Re: ༺Rune Knights Yule Formal༻

Post by Allan Krowe 16th November 2019, 5:11 pm

Allan stared at the distant silhouette of the Rune Knight’s headquarters. The shimmering lights danced as if fairies congregated together for a waltz in a midsummer night ball. Yet the frozen kiss of winter was a gracious reminder that Summer had long ended. A deep rooted melancholy echoed through the inner workings of Allan’s mind. The idea of participating in the festivities of the Yule beckoned a feeling that he had been in a situation quite similar to this so called Yule. He was by no means conversance with whatever fractured memory that caused this resonance in his heart. Thus, Allan concluded that t’was nothing more than one of his lost memories thrashing about in the undertow of uncertainty. He was certain that his subconscious was trying to remember something. A memory trying to break the surface only to be drowned by the nothingness that enveloped the corners of his mind.

Feeling slightly perturbed and down cast due to the draconian prohibition of his amnesia. Allan swallowed his inquires of his past. He knew it would lead to only more unsolvable questions.  Already mentally fatigued by the Sisyphean task of trying to recall his origins. Allan decided to move on and focus on the memories being made now. Indeed, it was a time of festivities and jubilation, however Allan had originally no plans of participating in Yule. Due to certain events that had transpired a week ago, Allan had found himself in a predicament in which had forced him to pay a debt. Too keep the tale swift and concise, he was nothing more than a simple ticket into the gilded halls of the Rune Knights. The said person which he owed a favor too, apparently had business with someone in the ranks of the police force of Fiore. Thus he was obliged… correction…. OBLIGATED to take said person as his date to the same exact Ball he had planned to evade entirely.

With his hands in his pockets he waited for the subject of his misery to arrive at their set randevu point. As the grains of sand passed through father times hourglass, Allan grew increasingly more familiar with dreaded feelings of boredom. Internally Allan was irritated and desperately wanted to return to the sanctuary of his study. However, his external projection painted him to be more aloof and distant. His face was emotionless and stoic, even at a closer look Allan seemed completely stoic and calm. This was the natural state of Allan Krowe. Despite the expansive emotions he had within himself, he could not bring himself to express it. Thus often leaving him misconstrued as cold and distant. Intimidating to some, stuck up to others. Some may even call it mysterious. Allan idly adjusted his black suit, not that it required any fixing or adjustment. The fitted suit draped over Allan’s figure in a perfect manner. The black dress shirt, and raven black suit complimented his dark complexion. The only color that was present in Allan’s attire was a silver tie held in place by a golden tie clip.

Allan slowly turned at the sound of heels making contact with the cobblestone street. His emerald green eyes made contact with the young woman who was none other than his so called date for the night. “Took you long enough.”

༺Rune Knights Yule Formal༻ Empty Re: ༺Rune Knights Yule Formal༻

Post by Alicia Sinclair 20th November 2019, 1:03 pm

Alicia looked into the mirror triple checking to see if she was up to par to the Sinclair level of presentation. He white hair tied into a long braid, a very small amount of makeup was applied to bring out her delicate features out just a little bit more. A soft gloss of a very natural pink was on her lips, a touch of blush on her cheeks to bring out some color from her very fair complexion. The cosmetics carefully applied on came together in a way that complimented her beauty. She didn’t exactly need to use make up, but it only seemed right the right thing to do due to the occasion that was taking place that night. She wore a beautiful long white gown with faint accents of silver. On her shoulders was draped a white shawl with a very light silver snowflake pattern to it.

“Hair? Check. Gown? Check. Make up? Check. It looks like I’m pretty much ready…. Now where did I put my gloves…” muttered Alicia as she turned around. Her gown flowed to the direction of her pivot, following her motion in a graceful manner. Her sky-blue eyes skimmed around her hotel room. The bed covers were haphazardly tossed aside, a pillow was lying on the ground. A few empty water bottles scattered on the floor. In short, the room was kinda messy. However there was a method to her madness, using the fallen pillow as a landmark, she traced a trail of scattered pajamas back to an open box which once contained the gown that she was wearing. Inside the box was a pair of elegant white gloves that when worn would reach up to her elbows. She quickly scooped them up from the box and made her way back to the mirror where she was standing in front of earlier. She put on one glove, but before she put on her right glove, she picked up a beautiful silver ring. She paused for a brief moment, looking down at the ring, before she put it on before wearing her glove.

She gave herself one last check in the mirror before hurrying out and locking her hotel room’s door. As she left the building, Alicia without noticing turned a few heads. Soon enough she found herself outside making her way down a flight of stairs. There stood before her in all black was her so called “date” for the evening. “I didn’t know we were going to a funeral.” Alicia gave Allan a smug smirk as she made a remark at his dark outfit. “Are you ready to go now?” She said looking up at the man who as about a foot taller than her. “I was going to message you earlier but, I remembered you don’t have a ilac.” Alicia sighed as she took a few steps ahead impatiently ahead of Allan.

“Honestly. You should buy one for yourself. They have some really cool models out in the market. Plus there are a ton of neat and useful features you can use.”
Alicia explained as she took out a ilac out of her purse and showed it to Allan. The phone screen lit up revealing the time. “AH! Allan we have to go. We might be late. Let’s hurry!” Alicia grabbed Allan’s arm and tugged him along, practically almost dragging him towards the Rune Knight headquarters.

༺Rune Knights Yule Formal༻ Empty Re: ༺Rune Knights Yule Formal༻

Post by Allan Krowe 20th November 2019, 9:16 pm

The time of reckoning had come, Allan knew he had entangled himself with a reprobate that possessed the complexion of an angel. The girl before him stood no taller than five foot three inches. Yet her trenchant personality towered over her piddling size. Truly this woman was a maelstrom compounded into a sassy miniature package of self proclaimed “fun”. After the first fateful encounter Allan had with Alicia, Allan realized that this girl was a loose canon primed and ready with a metric ton of black powder. This girl seemed to be a magnet of catastrophe, he cringed upon remembering upon meeting Alicia for the very first time. Allan recalled someone saying that big events, or extreme emotional situations could cause a jolt in their memory thus restoring it. Unfortunately, time spent with Alicia rendered him almost begging to lose memories of said events despite being plagued with Amnesia. However, as much as it pained him to admit it… There had not been a single dull moment with her. Not once did he feel the shackled down by the cumbersome weight of boredom. Something about this girl left Allan apprehensive, but at the same time be magnetized to her. She was so familiar yet so foreign. Allan was a man of logic yet the paradox of emotions he feels when he was with Alica left him dumbfounded and completely lost at the skullduggery of her existence.

After getting a proper look at Alicia he deemed her attire nothing short of felicitous. Her petite figure was dressed in a fine gown. The pure white sheen and silver accents at times would refract the light of the glowing street lamps. Every so often a spark of rainbow would gloss over her snow white figure. Her cascading elegant ivory strands of hair, dangled elegantly like silk glistening in the light. Her long eyelashes batted once, bringing attention to a pair of astounding azure blue eyes. For a faction of a second, Alicia’s alluring beauty went on an elaborate heist and robbed Allan’s lungs from his breath. Even so, not once did Allan show the slightest bit of emotion. He stood firm and immovable like a paragon of stoicism.

“I didn’t know we were going to a funeral.”
Alica immediately destroyed her image as she threw a jab at Allan’s attire. Like a beautiful mural made of stained glass destroyed by a train crashing through with no breaks, Alica destroyed her initial impression with utmost ease. Allan rolled his eyes, showing the faintest bit of irritation for half a second. “Pardon me. I was mourning the loss of my evening. Due to certain circumstances my wonderfully planned evening met an early demise. So If you would so kindly spare me your attitude and allow me to grieve for just a moment. That would be much appreciated.” Allan retorted in a sarcastic tone. He then slicked his raven black locks back shooting her a fairly serious look.

“Are you ready to go now?”
Alicia asked. The absolute gall of this girl, Allan thought to himself. He maintained his cool aura and calmly replied back. “Oh...The thing is, my dear... I was about an hour and forty five minutes already prepared to embark on tonight's lovely evening.” Allan smiled sweetly, but inside he was quite irritated at this girls attitude. He watched as she gracefully took a few strides past where he was standing. Alicia turned in such a way to position herself in an angle that allowed her to direct her captivating blue gaze into Allan’s emerald green eyes. She quickly broke eye contact in such a nonchalant way. She took out a slim device out of her purse which matched her perfectly coordinated outfit. “I was going to message you earlier but, I remembered you don’t have a ilac.” Alicia sighed. Her face illuminated with eagerness as her voice spoke with ardor. “Honestly. You should buy one for yourself. They have some really cool models out in the market. Plus there are a ton of neat and useful features you can use.” Allan watched Alicia as she fiddled with her magical cellular device.

“Duly noted. I’ll be sure to invest in one later this week.” Allan concurred as he approached her. He wondered when they would make their way to the Rune Knight headquarters. Almost immediately some sort of Deus Ex Machina sent a well timed reminder to Alicia, that the time had come for the two leave and finally make their way to the Yule. “AH! Allan we have to go. We might be late. Let’s hurry!” Alicia then proceeded to seize Allan’s arm practically dragging him along. Allan was almost surprised at the small girls strength. “Alicia. I’ve arranged transportation to us. Our diver has already waiting.” Allan pointed over to a beautiful car that very much looked like a black Bentley. Allan then positioned his arm to lock with hers, instead of having her haul him around as if he was some sort of sack of potatoes. He guided her to the car, opened the door in a fine gentleman like manner. As soon as she would enter the vehicle he would close the door and enter as well. With a handsome tip and the urge to hasten their travels. The driver was able to quickly but safely deliver the two passengers to their destination. They arrived just in time for them to walk arm in arm in the venue to see Serilda walk up to the podium and deliver her inspiring message. This was Allan’s first time seeing his boss in person, after all he was just a fresh recruit that had started his duties as a Rune Knights a few days ago. The field marshal look very much like Alicia. She was almost a bigger more womanly version of the girl which he was locked arm in arm with. Then it hit Allan. Alicia had mentioned she wanted to surprise her sister with a visit. He turned to Alicia and realized his date for the Yule, was the field marshal's sister.

As Beaux listened to Serilda’s speech, he recounted his memories of the attack on Era months ago. It was a day to remember. The battle fought was the hardest he had ever experienced and left him exhausted and battered. It was also a sweet memory in that it was the first time he had met Serilda and Gisen. Later on he had met the rest of the people that had been recruited to the Rune Knights right after the attack on Era.

After the Marshall’s speech, an attendant lit the Yule log, which burst into warm and colorful flames. The festivities had started!

The first person to approach and converse with Beaux was the man one rank superior to him in the Special Ops: General Shane Stern. The man was dressed in a dark blue suit that seemed to fit him. A glass of whiskey occupied his hand.

Beaux’s demeanor brightened at the compliment. Merci! he cheered, tilting his head endearingly. “It took a lot of effort to clean this place up. The cleaning crews dealt with some… tough stains, but they did a wonderful job.” The angel enjoyed the compliments that were likely to keep coming throughout the night, but he wanted the appreciation to fall onto the employees hired to help. It was with their efforts that everything had turned out as well as it did.

He was about to say more but was affectionately tackled by Wren. The impact surprised him but he quickly recovered and returned the hug to his friend. “Thank you, la petit!” he replied. “You look lovely! We picked out the perfect dress for you!~” It was true, the little witch looked wonderful! Her outfit was very fitting for her style and personality and even matched the angel’s a little. A movement against his legs made the Major General look down. Winding around his ankles was Nanny. “Oh, and you look pretty too, Nanny,” he added, not wanting to offend the feline by ignoring her efforts. He bent down for a moment to stroke her soft head. Though he was particular to reptiles, the angel would never turn down petting a soft animal.

Beaux noticed Mythal approaching after he dropped off a drink to Serilda from the bar. The Director was dressed in a detailed military outfit, looking formal and regal. He addressed them all, then echoed a similar compliment to what Shane had said. Merci, Director Ragnos,” Beaux replied pleasantly, yet awkwardly. He still was unsure of how to act around the man, or if he even remembered-

Beaux shook himself out of his thoughts. Now wasn’t really the time to think about that. This evening was wonderful and festive, and there was much conversation to be had! “I am excited! Hopefully the new year brings many positive things.” The angel dared not reflect on the current year. There was one event in particular that he had done his best to block out of his mind. Hope nestled within him that the new year would bring him healing from the hellish nightmares that lurked at the corners of his mind.

While his little group continued to converse, the angel looked around the room, ever active in his hosting duties. He noticed more of his friends and coworkers had arrived. Dela had showed up wearing a very risque dress with none other than Cillian! Beaux was pleasantly reminded of the summer festivities at which he had met the spiky-haired man. Katsumi stood on the side of the room, looking indecisive. Beaux didn’t know her very well, but he had made it a priority to learn the names of everyone he possibly could as soon as he had been promoted to Major General. Many other faces were recognized and Beaux made a note to greet as many of them as he could throughout the night.

Beaux noticed a girl had approached Nanny and was vying for the cat’s attention. It was Jellisha, one of the exceed twins. Her dress was a beautiful, rich blue with a turquoise jacket. The angel was impressed by the girl’s choice of outfit. “This is Nanny,” he said, crouching next to the cat and the exceed girl. The other twin approached the group to stand near her sister. Mademoiselles, your outfits are lovely and so colorful!” he complimented. Beaux hadn’t had much of a chance to interact with the two before, so he hoped to establish a lasting connection.

When Beaux’s attention drifted across the room as they made small talk, their group ever growing, Shane followed Beaux’s direction for a little and then noticed a very familiar face. He smiled slightly when he thought of their adventures together in the virtual reality game of GGO. It had been rather interesting, to say the least. He noticed that she was talking to someone who was hidden behind… a stack of papers?

Shane had remembered someone telling him about a new Spec Ops recruit that was particularly immersed in completing paperwork and such. He had asked for the reason, and the reply had been that the paperwork of the Spec Ops division was simply too abysmal in terms of consistency. When he heard that, Shane had completely shut up about it, knowing for a fact that part of this was his fault as well. He hadn’t always been one to deal with mind numbing paperwork.

“I’ll check back with you guys later. There’s two people I wanna meet over there,” Shane announced as he walked away, but not before giving Beaux a warm pat on the shoulder.

“Please don’t let the bar stop, Beaux,” Shane commented with a mischievous grin as he held up his now-empty whisky glass. To Mythal, “Let’s catch up later, boss. Can’t say that I’ve had a drink with you yet till now.”

Shane walked casually towards the bar and whenever some of his coworkers passed by him, they would raise their glasses for a toast but Shane would always apologetically raise his own empty glass and holler for them to wait for him while he got a refill. When he finally reached the bar, he gently placed it on the counter.

“Can you please fill up my glass more than the usual amount?” Shane asked expectantly. “It’s getting troublesome moving to and fro from the bar.”

“General, are you sure you want to do that? You’ve already had six glasses,” the bartender turned to look at the clock behind him. “You’ve already had six glasses in thirty minutes. Are you sure you’re okay?”

Shane let out a good-natured laugh when he heard that. He appreciated the bartender’s kind gesture and concern. “Don’t worry about it. You’ll see me making a few more trips here before the night is over. But I appreciate your concern. Since you know me, can I know your name?”

“Cruxer, sir,” the bartender replied with a straightened back.

“Thanks Cruxer,” Shane said as he took his filled glass and in its place put down a hefty tip for him. “See you in a short while.”

After the brief conversation with the bartender, Shane finally made his way over to the table with the stacks of paper and promptly took a seat.

“Hi, my name is Shane. Are you Melody? I don’t think we’ve met.”

༺Rune Knights Yule Formal༻ Empty Re: ༺Rune Knights Yule Formal༻

Post by Dela 26th November 2019, 4:11 am

It was so bothersome, fending off these urges. Dela was trying so hard to be normal, even though she didn't look like normal right now. It wasn't like her at all. Usually, all this attraction stuff took way too much effort to deal with, and what was the point? She couldn't die right now, but if she didn't finish what she started, she'd be something worse than death. Half-hearted flings were all she allowed herself before since she'd definitely outlive them unless the curse got her, then she'd definitely be just....gone. Why'd he have to be so different? Because he was Cillian. Infuriating, dopey, Chiseled-abs Mcgee Cilian duCrosse, the man just as secretive as she was.

Once at the table, Dela used this opportunity to get her proper ogling of him out of the way. There were tons of people milling around, so surely that would keep her from acting a fool. His attention would be on the food, of course. He was a foodiphile. Maybe if she rubbed whipped cream all over hersel--oh go what was she thinking?! The ultramarine eyes that glided over his white, princely suit apparently short-circuited her brain. Oh great, and now she was just standing there, staring at him. It was weird to see so many clothes on him, yet it did something for her. Cheeks flushing lightly, she ripped her eyes away and cleared her throat as if that would diffuse the situation for herself. It didn't, but as she focused more on all the catered food and the questions he'd asked, Dela calmed back down to her normal level of sass.

"Oh yeah, that little sucker acted like he was gonna help me out," she started, plucking up a decadent chocolate-covered strawberry. She placed it on her dish, then cheekily licked the remnants of confection from her fingers once after her body heat had softened it. "Cute little kid with blue hair. Chester and I were being chased by some of the attacking dark mages. He was right in the path of the ones chasing me, and it was my duty to get civilians to safety since I'd just joined. He actually killed the guys after me, so I made the mistake of thinking he was a good guy. Nah, I realized too late that he was on neither side and then I had a flower embedded in my chest absorbing the life right out of me. And that was it," she shrugged before reaching out for more spicy crab puff things than was probably socially acceptable.

Now that her plate was full she snatched up two drinks, one alcoholic and one not, and waited for him to find his treats before heading for one of the elegantly prepared tables. "I woke up among the dead Rune Knights and civilians sometime later, so that was a treat," Dela concluded her story, having a seat and beginning to munch. She wasn't so infatuated that she'd not eat around him, but she definitely tried to look at least somewhat attractive while doing it...not that he seemed to pay it any mind.

With a slightly impatient huff, she decided to answer his second question while the pair made quick work of their food. "Well, you see, that's an odd story," smirked the blonde, shaking her locks so they would all cascade over one shoulder, saving them from falling into her food when she leaned forward to whisper. "I was in a dark guild before this," Dela confided quietly, "Nightmare. I dunno if you've heard of it since it's dead now, but I joined up because they had this thing where if you died, you just respawned under the castle like in a video game. I thought I could get around the less pleasant aspects of my undyingness that way, but it turned out that the respawn pool was this disgusting, literal pool of blood and you reappeared in it. Ugh," she leaned back at the disgusted groan, shivering at the memory. "It was so gross and it stained my hair, so I took off after the first time I used it. Since I couldn't find a guild that would help me with the dying problem while I look for information, I joined one instead where I'd likely have more opportunities to get information out of people. Plus, it pays pretty good, which is a nice perk. Travel and bribery are expensive," the Reluctant Rune Knight finished up with a devious cackle, poking her tongue out at him playfully. Perhaps he'd expected a confession of true altruistic heroism, but no, that was her sister. Twins they may be, but they couldn't be more different.

_____Melody was not expecting to have anyone come near her, mostly because she looked like the only buzz kill at the party and second because nobody really knew her outside of just sitting at a desk doing the paperwork. SO, when the head of her division spoke to her, and even mentioned her name well she sort of fumbled badly. Her first mistake was minor, jumping slightly in her seat causing her pen to slide and rip the paper she was filling out. Sadly it only got worse from there.

_____Her second fumble was spinning to face Shane, though turning her entire body with arms still outreached causing her to hit the stacks of papers to that side TOWARDS her commanding officer. Bolting to her feet, and due to her own speed falling towards the ground as she blushed badly at her very terrible display of conduct. The ground around her covering with a white clock magic symbol before she speed around. Mostly intent on fixing her mistakes.

_____She did not expect her motions to be followed to be honest, though as she moved rapidly to catch her paper and reform her pile before using her other spell to revert the time of the paper to mend the rip she had made before getting to a proper 'at attention' stance and fumbling to salute her superior who had taken the time to check in on her. Her mind racing a million miles a second as her doubt and worry shot out countless reasons why he would pick her out when so many had been around.

"S...Sir Shane... I... I was just trying to get the branch ahead on paper work I swear I'm not behind on it... I'm not exactly the most social or party type so I figured I'd help other ways... I'm... erm... well... very nervous... Is there anything you need from me?"

_____Melody could not bring herself to make eye contact, sure she knew she should but her own nerves refused to add more reasons to be on high alert. Her mind was not relenting on worry and the more she stood at attention the worse it seemed to get as she looked ready to topple over. It might also be because she did not get any sleep really and anyone who looked at the darkness under her eyes and how strained she looked could tell that.

_____She had no idea why she was in such a state, as she slept the same amount of time as always every night, but each day she only seemed to get worse and she still had her job to do so she fought it every bend and turn it came up. Looking at her own trembling frame from the fatigue and jittery worry she tried to straiten herself and stay at attention until told otherwise or her body gave out, whatever might come first.
