Magic Name:
Arc of Essence
Magic Type (according to Imperial Classifications):
Ancient Magic (Solitary Benefit: + 50% to Strength)
- Excerpts of Remus A.A. Argennos, Professor of Ancient and Esoteric Magics, on the subject:
“... a power that is said to be accessible only to those who have the blood of a divine being flowing through their veins, or taught by one of their number, the Arc of Essence is a magic that records claim predates the building of the very first guilds in Earthland. The magic centers around the strength of an awakened, or “Kindled” living soul, and its psionic link with the five dimensions: Length, Breadth, Depth, Time and Existence. The power of this magic comes primarily from the mind, which must be beyond that of the normal (perhaps this is why the power seems restricted to certain creatures), and then the formulae, which usually occupies a certain space. In theory, this implies that the user of such a magic can manipulate these five dimensions with but the power of thought, and that the further away from the user an object is, the less influence the user may exert on the object. However, this theoretical implication does not apply to all the abilities of this magic. In order to be a master of this magic, the user must have a powerful mind, otherwise, they may be driven mad by all the concepts their mind has to process.
“The Kindled Soul has the ability to manipulate space and time via the use of mysterious magical formulae commonly known as spells. These spells can be divided into two classes, each of which can further be divided into two sub-classes, based on what they specifically do, while another class stands on its own:
First, we have the Amulet Spells, which are positive and helpful spells; further divided into:
- Benedictions, which confer positive effects on the caster or their allies, and
- Palisade Spells, which provide defensive structures to save and protect.
And conversely, we have the Curse Spells, which are negative and harmful spells; further divided into:
- Maledictions, which confer negative and debilitating effects on enemies, and
- Imprecations, which manipulate arcane forces to physically harm the target.
The final class of spells are called the Invocations, where psionic and spatial energies are distilled into more corporeal states and utilized by the caster.
Each of these four sub-classes is numbered from 1-100, and the higher the number, the stronger the spell. However, some “adaptable” spells are not numbered, but classified otherwise, to show that they do not fall exactly within the numbering system. Then there are Miracles, associated with a color, certain techniques that seem exclusive to the user, and may confer great power upon them. These do not seem to fall under any of the four classes stated above.
From previous studies, the Kindled Soul seems to connect their mind with the sphere of Thought or Existence, and can transport themselves and others through space and (under extremely rare conditions) time in a heartbeat. By utilizing their Imprecations, they can fire off powerful blasts and induce pain without visible injury. They seem to be able to create defensive structures for protection and distort space around themselves to improve their resistances. Records have also identified powerful practitioners being able to affect gravity around them with powerful formulae, and disturb time to appear faster than they actually are. In rare cases, it has been documented that some users can affect the dimension of Existence of others, being able to reach into their minds and glean through their thoughts, or even project illusions of what is not to appear visible. There is a terrifying rumor that some exist who can even bend the will of others to their own, overload a mind with emotions that can run them mad or bring about their demise, and even place an “enchantment” on a victim (in an act of manipulating all five dimensions at once) that transforms the unfortunate person into an animal... much like something out of children tales, or even obliterate them into dust with but a click of the finger. While these unsettling stories have not been authentically documented, it is said that every tale has a sliver of truth in it...”- A Treatise on Ancient Magics related to the Soul

Unique Abilities:
- 5th Verdant Miracle: Pilgrim in a Faraway Home:
The dimension of Existence is known to some as the Crossroads of Paths Ending Never (C.O.P.E.N., according to Belladonna), as in theory, it can connect to any plane, place or time. The Benediction of a Kindling Soul creates a little “niche”, a safe refuge within the C.O.P.E.N. that is a part of the user’s psyche. In this niche, the user can store equipment, flee when endangered, and gain access to the C.O.P.E.N. itself, provided they have the means. Once this is created, the user becomes a part of the C.O.P.E.N., while still existing in the real world; a being of two worlds, so to speak. The user can therefore manifest more or less in a particular world they are attached to, allowing them to ignore natural environments (say, the cold of the North Pole or the heat of a burning building) and ignore the law of gravity. However, contact with detrimental objects in the environment (such as flames) will still damage her. This allows Belladonna to “walk” on air and water, show little reaction to hot or cold surroundings, and pass through normal objects unhindered. Also, magically generated area effects will still operate normally on Belladonna. Magical barriers (defensive spells and the like) can resist Belladonna, but once per post, she has the power to touch said barriers and pass through them. This touch does not have any offensive properties, but simply lets her ignore or completely disable these magical barriers (depending on her mood and intent), and she can only do this to defensive techniques on her level and below. A MP sacrifice equal to the amount used to cast the defensive spell must be made by Belladonna, for the technique to work, following the rules of magic negation, and her ability to overpower defensive spells is limited to one defensive spell per post.
Note that this power does not include teleportation. - 2nd Azure Miracle: Voice of the Elders:
By further attunement to the Dimension of Existence, the Power of Thought is granted to Belladonna. She gains the ability to interact with others telepathically without having to move her lips. By virtue of this Miracle, Belladonna can initiate a telepathic connection with anyone within her magic sensory radius, but she must first be aware of their presence, and they must be within her sensory range before she can do so. Those who go beyond her sensory radius do not lose the telepathic contact with her (but at the beginning of every thread, it is necessary to forge a new telepathic connection). She can send messages in various forms, ranging from simple words and expressions, to three dimensional images, even to creating a “psychic platform” (which is a ‘vista’ where ‘avatars’ of all persons she is connected to at a time can interact, but can cause no harm or benefit to each other, beyond the passing of information). Her attunement further enables her to learn any language instantly just by listening to it once and gives her a 50% increase to magic power (MP). - Unlocked at S-Rank:

- B-Rank Spells:
- Name: 45th Benediction Amulet: Venerated Corpus
Rank: B
Type: Passive
Description: Being connected to the Crossroads of Paths Ending Never comes with a benefit: Belladonna is more resistant to magical attacks by 50%. - Name: 55th Benediction Amulet: Left Eye of the Mind
Rank: B
Type: Passive
Description: Belladonna's connection to the Dimension of Existence enables her to read the history of an object by usually touching it. This includes living and non-living things, and sentient and non-sentient beings. When she touches an object, she is able to gain information about the object and the environment around it up to the distance of the spell's burst range (50 meters). Most of the time, since her feet are already connected to the ground, she can activate this power by merely looking around her and can see into the past of the object, or simply put, she can witness what happened in the past in that area. She can discover what happened in their past, even if they are not aware, but the conditions stated above must be met. Misleading spells above her rank can misdirect her, but anything on her rank and lower can be identified as true or false.
RP Flavor: This spell is strictly for plot mechanics, and while it is intended to make things difficult to be concealed from Belladonna, it cannot be used to engage in metagaming in any way. Permission must be obtained from any parties involved on just how much Belladonna can learn from this technique. - Name: 40th Benediction Amulet: Mask of the Kalada
Rank: B
Category: Auxiliary
Type: Single Target (Self)
Damage: N/A
Range: Self
Speed: 200 meters per second
Duration: 6 posts
Description: Belladonna materializes the Mask of the Kalada, an arcane artifact that resembles a featureless mask. Once she puts it on, she gains the features of another person, even down to their body shape and size, clothes, scent and voice. It basically allows her, in simpler terms, to transform to another person. Natural senses cannot detect this powerful illusion, and only magics designed to identify can reveal the truth, as long as they are a rank above the Mask of the Kalada. identifying magics on this spell's rank will determine that Belladonna is an impostor, but they will be unable to ascertain her true identity. Taking on the identity of player characters and important NPCs (i.e. player controlled NPCs or event NPCs) requires OOC permission. - Name: 51st Malediction Curse: Minimize!
Rank: B
Category: Auxiliary (Debuff)
Type: Single target
Damage: N/A
Range: 200 meters
Speed: 200 meters per second
Duration: 6 posts
Description: Belladonna gestures towards an enemy, and a strange wave of magical energy moves from her towards them. If it connects, it cuts down magic spell speed by 60% for the duration of the technique, for in reality, it attempts to shrink the person down, but can only work on their ability to quickly cast spells.
RP Flavor:This Curse can be used to shrink persons down to incredibly tiny proportions, and belladonna can decide whether their spell casting speed is affected or not. She can use this to kidnap targets, or even smuggle animate and inanimate objects into a place. Player characters and important NPCs can be shrunk only with the permission of the person in charge of the character.

- Name: 71st Benediction Amulet: Void Cicada
Rank: A
Category: Auxilliary
Type: Burst
Range: 75 meters
Speed: 75 meters per second
Duration: 7 posts
Description: The Void Cicada now expresses its full potential, which is teleportation. Belladonna has the power to teleport herself to any location within her burst range. When she is being attacked, she can leave an afterimage that causes a 60% debuff to the attacker's speed for 7 posts, if they touch it. It can only be done once per post. People consider the teleportation to be somewhat unnerving, as the visual effects involve leaving a glowing skeletal outline in her wake, which persists for a fraction of a second before vanishing.
RP Flavor: The Void Cicada can be used to transport herself and others in and out of the C.O.P.E.N., which now can be used as a storage device of sorts. Since the C.O.P.E.N. exists in a dimension that is connected to space, she can teleport herself and others to different locations on Earthland. Outside of combat, the distance of where she can teleport to is not necessarily known. Player characters and important NPCs can resist teleportation, unless they are unconscious. - Name: 80th Palisade Amulet: Ancestor’s Rampart
Rank: A
Category: Defensive
Type: Burst
Durability: 300 HP
Range: 75 meters
Speed: 75 meters per second
Duration: 7 posts
Description: A shimmering pale blue force field (with honeycomb designs) of pure psionic energy appears and envelopes Belladonna and everyone close to her, protecting them from harm. People are free to leave the defensive sphere when they want, but it takes her permission to be allowed back within. - Name: 78th Benediction Amulet: Transient Whisper
Rank: A
Category: Auxiliary
Type: Multitarget
Range: 225 meters
Speed: 165 meters per second
Duration: 7 posts
Description: Belladonna snaps her fingers, and benevolent magic locates any of her allies (that she desires to 'bless'), wrapping them in its embrace. They become impossible to detect by normal senses, and will even pass out of the memory of antagonistic objects, for up to 7 posts. Attacking an object dispels the magic, and they become visible to everyone else once more. Of course, sensory magics above the rank of the spell will identify her spell. Sensory magics on the same rank as the spell will partially detect a presence, but might not still easily detect, unless they are extra careful in searching out, or the beneficiary of the Transient Whisper is careless. A maximum of seven persons can be blessed by the Transient Whisper. - Name: 73rd Malediction Curse: Hexa Bestia
Rank: A
Category: Offensive
Type: Multiple Target
Damage: 32 HP per post
Range: 225 meters
Speed: 165 meters per second
Duration: 5 posts
Description: Belladonna casts the “Hexa Bestia”, a technique that affects the dimension of Existence of her victims, by pointing or gesturing at her enemies. Black, smoky balls of dark matter seek out their targets. If they connect, the target’s heads are wreathed in black smoke, and they suffer 50 HP damage per post. This is because they feel a malevolent power battering directly at their souls, and a voice keeps telling them that if they succumb to the belief that they are less than human, the pain would go away.
RP Flavor: Should anyone accept that line of thought, that they are less than human, the black smoke instantly falls to their feet and draws the ominous formula of the Hexa Bestia beneath them. Instantly, dark matters engulf the victim, drawing on the dimension of Existence to completely alter their “being”, as they know it. When the energies dissipate, such an unfortunate victim will have been transformed into a small animal. The animal will find it difficult to move effectively (because, for mercy’s sake, being a human in an animal’s body is freaky, scary and downright disorienting). Belladonna can reverse the curse at will, but the effects may be permanent if she does not do so. Player characters, important NPCs and NPCs controlled by a player cannot be affected by this RP Flavor (unless permission is taken from them). Powerful NPCs (bosses and such) are also resistant to this, but if they are utterly defeated, well, that is another matter... - Name: 69th Invocation: Kraken’s Clutch

Range: 225 meters
Speed: 165 meters per second

Description: Belladonna draws on her connection with the dimension of Existence to conjure a formula seal on the ground, wall, water, air, or wherever is convenient. From the seal, thick tendrils emerge and attempt to ensnare an opponent. If the opponent is caught, they suffer crushing damage, and the tendrils can restrict their victim for a post. In the next post, the tendrils seem to phase slightly out of this dimension, allowing the victim to escape. In the next post, they seek out the target again to trap them. - Name: 71st Imprecation Curse: Distilled Soul Drain
Rank: A
Category: Offensive
Type: Single Target
Damage: 100 HP
Range: 300 meters
Speed: 300 meters per second
Duration: 7 posts
Description: Belladonna points at her target and fires a strange, spectral blue "bullet" at them. Should the magical projectile connect, a spectral line (seen only by Belladonna) connects the target to Belladonna, and the target's soul energy is leeched away. The target suffers 5% HP drain for the duration of the spell, which can be added to Belladonna's HP.
RP Flavor: The soul contains the memories of a sentient being. Belladonna can use this spell to obtain information from a target, without their "approval". In simpler terms, she uses this to read the mind of her target, usually at their detriment, although she can read the mind of a target without causing them any injury. Regardless of whether the target suffers or not, Belladonna must make the connection via the spectral bullet, but whether the bullet will inflict pain or not, as well as the subsequent discomfort, is up to her. This allows her to steal information from targets without their knowledge (provided no one sees the bullet). The information obtained by this spell must be agreed upon by player characters or moderators (or anyone else reasonably involved) before Belladonna can learn anything. - Name: 80th Malediction Curse: Imperio

Damage: 100 HP
Range: 75 meters

Description: Belladonna releases a pulse of psychic overwhelming energy which attacks only her enemies close by (though among those, she can determine who should be affected in what way). The wave attempts to subject the wills of her enemies to her own, and causes mental agony, as well as knocks targets back, should they resist. If the target(s) is/are weak minded, Belladonna can compel them to do her every bidding at the 'boon' of avoiding the mental torture. They are then under her complete control for the duration of the spell, and will obey her commands without question. Player characters, player controlled NPCs, and important NPCs (event and such stuff) can only be mind-controlled with permission from the controller(s). - Name: 75th Benediction Amulet: Inspired Animus

Rank: B+
Category: Offensive
Type: Single Target
Damage: 120 HP
Range: 300 meters
Speed: 300 meters per second
Duration: 8 posts
Description: From her forehead or her hands, Belladonna fires a large blast of violently vibrating negative psionic energy, which deals concussive damage to a single target, and, unless the target has some ability to resist, will most likely fling the target the entire distance of the blast (300 meters), unless something durable enough intercepts their “journey”. Victims suffer a 90% decrease to strength for the duration of the spell, if hit by this attack.
Name: 68th Benediction Amulet: Magnify!
Rank: A+
Category: Auxiliary
Type: Single Target
Damage: N/A
Range: 300 meters
Speed: 300 meters per second
Duration: 9 posts
Description: Belladonna blesses herself, or a single target with an immense power: an increase in physical strength (100% buff).
RP Flavor: This spell is used to magnify a person's attributes, but Belladonna can also use it to magnify the person's size (with or without the boons). She can increase her size, the size of an item, or a target, to colossal proportions (to a maximum of 60 meters in height).
Name: 79th Imprecation Curse: Thanatophobia
Rank: A+
Category: Offensive
Type: Burst
Damage: 150 HP
Range: 110 meters
Speed: 110 meters per second
Duration: 9 posts
Description: Belladonna makes a hand gesture (which is not necessarily important to cast this technique), and an Imprecation formula appears at her location. From it, a ghostly fog of a spectral green color bursts forth and envelops the target area. Any person against whom Belladonna holds ill will suffers pain as the Imprecation attempts to unravel their soul. Allies are not affected. The unfortunate targets also suffer disorientation that stems from an irrational fear of death that grips them. This causes them to endure a 50% reduction to their spell range and 50% reduction to their spell speed. Should any victim expire in the clutches of this spell, they die, the pictorial description of terror: their eyes wide with dread, and their mouths open in an eternal silent scream. Player characters, important NPCs and NPCs controlled by another player are immune to the death aspect, unless permission is obtained from them.
RP Flavor: When Belladonna is under duress, physically, mentally or otherwise, the spell may activate without warning (following the whims and caprices of the PC in charge). This is only to make her a very dangerous person to be around, when she is unstable.
Name: 57th Imprecation Curse: Oblivion Bomb
Rank: B+
Category: Offensive
Type: Area of Effect
Damage: 60 HP
Range: 150 meters
Speed: 75 meters per second
Duration: 8 posts
Description: Belladonna creates a small black ball (about the size of a baseball), and throws it at the target. The ball remains inert, however, until she activates it with her mind (or the duration of the spell expires and it dissolves into nothing), and at that point, it explodes in a non-elemental eruption surrounded by between 5 to 7 large rings made up of a myriad of deep purple runes, capable of flinging targets with force (if the explosion hasn't already damaged them enough). The rune rings identify the range designated for the explosion. This "explosion" does not differentiate between friend or foe, and as a result, must be carefully utilized. However, she can affect the range of the explosion, enabling it to cover the maximum radius, or cover as minimal a radius as possible.
- Signature Spells:
Name: 76th Benediction Amulet: Right Eye of the Mind
Rank: A
Type: Passive
Description: This blessing of the Arc of Essence bestows on its user an improved version of their magic sensory ability. The entire range of her magic sensory ability becomes unveiled to Belladonna, and she becomes aware of everything that goes on in that space. Concealing magics that are above her rank can avoid detection. Any concealing magic on her rank is detected, but Belladonna is unable to precisely discern who or what has entered her space. Interestingly, by looking at an individual, she can determine their intentions as benign, indifferent or malevolent. However, no matter how intense the emotions, she cannot glean beyond simply identifying the emotion connected (unless her target is protected by a spell of stronger rank, in which case she will be unable to identify any emotions; player characters, player controlled NPCs and event NPCs require OOC permission for their emotions to be ascertained). She can also create a Benediction formula above her open palm, which draws a three dimensional structure of the area within her magic sensory range in pale blue color. Enemies are shown as red orbs, allies as gold orbs, and indifferent people as grey. Concealed individuals using such magics on her rank will be portrayed as a grey fog. Belladonna’s awareness of the environment also confers a passive boon on her: her speed and reaction speed is increased by 55%.
Name: 77th Imprecation Curse: Dire Absolution
Rank: A

Type: Single Target
Damage: 100 HP
Range: 300 meters
Speed: 300 meters per second

Description: Belladonna gestures at an enemy, and a glowing white arcane formula writes itself beneath them. It then releases a pure white beam of destructive energy, which towers up into the sky and can be seen from the stratosphere. Victims suffer a 65% reduction to their spell range. Anyone unfortunate to expire by virtue of this spell turns to dust and is blown away, leaving no trace of their physical existence (please note that death rules apply: a player character, player controlled NPC or event NPC cannot be killed with this technique unless OOC permission is obtained).
- Belladonna Black’s Peculiar Lineage:
Proof of ownership: Didn't buy this...- The Lineage:
Name: Wrath of the Wraith
Description: Long ago, a group of ghost hunters were following a lead, attempting to track and hunt a rogue spirit that had been terrorizing a nearby town. Upon finally tracking down the creature, and cornering it in its lair, the group of two dozen were killed until only a single man remained. As the final member of the group, a priest, battled the wraith, he learned the truth. This creature was not just any wraith, but was, in fact, the first Wraith. The first malevolent spirit to form from the murder of Abel, a murder perpetrated by Cain, his own brother.
As this priest battled, he learned there would be no way to kill and silence the wraith of Abel. In his final moments, he did the one and only thing that he could and bound the wraith to his soul, and by extension, the soul of the next of his descendants born in every generation.- Ability: This lineage gifts the user an additional advanced spell slot which ranks with the user, but caps at S+ rank. This additional spell must be a Takeover Spell, and must be a shadow of the wraith that was bound long ago. This spell is subject to grading just like any other, and the rest of the takeover abilities are free to be made or used however the user wishes.

Name: Take Over: Black Witch Soul
Rank: A+
Type: Partial Take Over
Melee Damage: 42 HP
Range: Self
Speed: 110 meters per second
Duration: 9 posts
Description: It is said that the spirit of Abel, murdered by Cain, being unable to enact revenge on his brother, became a vengeful shade, and seeks to use its vessel to reveal its spite to this unjust world. One may consider this as a case of ancient transferred aggression.
When Belladonna activates this technique (or it automatically activates in a season of dire duress), her form undergoes a minor overhaul, as the Take Over is partial: her hair becomes jet-black and trails upwards, her skin chalk-white and her eyes turn golden with darker sclera. A glowing red line runs from the outer corner of each eye down to her chin, giving her the appearance of one who weeps luminous blood. Strange runic tattoos, of the same color as her “tears”, run all the way from her shoulders to her wrists. Her fingernails and toenails, however, are black. Her expression is dark and terrifying, and this Take Over form is more severe than her normal self. Belladonna and the Take Over form refer to themselves separately (Belladonna referring to the Take Over form as “the Black Witch”, and the Take Over form referring to Belladonna as “Child”, or any other similar epithet, depending on her ‘mood’), as if they are two distinct individuals; however, neither goes all out to declare that they are separate entities, sparking confusion among some.
Abilities:- Cruel Retribution:
Name: Cruel Retribution
Rank: A+
Category: Offensive (Damage over Time)
Type: Single Target
Damage: 75 HP per post
Range: 450 meters
Speed: 450 meters per second
Duration: 5 posts
Description: The Black Witch “screams”, but no sound is heard, as a thick mass of dark, inky, smoking skulls spiral towards the target. Anyone against whom the spell is not directed seems to hear a shrill cry somewhere in the depths of their souls. The target of this spell is not so fortunate, on the other hand. Should the spell connect, the target suffers intense pain. It is believed this is due to the target reliving the betrayal and pain felt by those murdered by traitors, since the time Cain slew Abel till date. This ordeal spans a total of 5 posts.
