    Job Info:

After being selected by Gaia Sabin to help with a job, Karasuki Kitsuharu had prepared extensively. She didn't want to let Gaia down equally as much as she wanted to help with the job ahead. It wasn't the travel or the danger that worried her, as she packed her over the shoulder bag with a couple of books, some fruit and snacks, and water. It was the worries of the league of monster hunters that concerned her. They specialized in fighting monsters, handling threats despite that they had no magic of their own. After losing several teams of hunters to this new breed of vampire, the league had acknowledged that they knew nothing about these vampires. What worried Karasuki was the lack of information on these creatures.

Garlic was as effective as throwing heads of lettuce and plunging stakes into the hearts of these vampires only resulted in the death of the hunter who did it. All that was really known by those who survived the crusades to fight the new breed is that they were much stronger and faster than typical vampires. These crafty creatures had been studied by a particularly reclusive hunter out here, who hid his research in his secluded forest home. The leader of the league had asked for help in entering the former hunter's home and obtaining his research. The book filled with his notes and information was no doubt priceless when it came to handling these vampires and Karasuki knew better than anyone the power of the written word. Perhaps her strong inclination towards ink and paper was what called Gaia to ask her to join on this job.

Karasuki wore comfortable jeans for this job, knowing Gaia and her would be going to the Spooky Forest. Her classy flats were replaced with sturdy sneakers and her flouncy creative blouse was overlain with a zip-up pink hooded sweatshirt. Wearing such a color would make her stand out a bit, but it was the only sweatshirt that she didn't mind ruining on a job in the forest. There were no guarantees of interactions with the undead, but she preferred dressing as better safe than sorry. Sporting a purple side braid instead of her usual voluminous pony tail, Kara was ready for the job at hand and waited in the guild hall for Gaia to arrive. Karasuki had a way to teleport them if needed, but she was sure Gaia also planned a way for travel and was unopposed to whatever plan that might be.

    GAIA SABIN
    The Cards Aren't Always Right
Gaia takes a deep breath as she walks out of the guild hall. Under her usual cloak, she was wearing a holographic blue tank wrap dress with a black three-fourths length sleeved jacket. On her legs were a pair of black thigh high boots that were being held in place by a couple belts on each leg. Was this one of the best clothes to wear for a job like this? Probably not, but she felt it would be easier to move around in. She had her bladed staff in her right hand and adjusted her little messenger bag she wore across her chest. In her bag had her tarot cards in them. This was a rather dangerous job, and Gaia wasn’t going to back down from it. She had to act fast. She had found Karasuki first, and was glad she did since she had magic that she felt would be wonderful for this, and asked her if she’d like to help her with a strange vampire problem, thankfully, her fellow book lover agreed. She had informed her friend of an old group of Monster Hunters having issues with a new breed of vampires that seemed to be invincible to the stereotypical methods, and they needed a mage to help them out with this threat.

This would be the second time she had gone to the Spooky Forest, the first time with Masha when she had gotten word of her friend needing help there, only to find him becoming the undead. She approached Karasuki and smiled a little. “You look ready to go. I hope this’ll go smoother than intended. Ready to get going to the Spooky Forest to get to the house?” She read over the paper once more as she tapped her chin. This was going to be interesting. She had only met one vampire before. One of the guild masters. Ryo. He confessed to her when they were at the Silent Glaciers investigating some dangerous moss there. She wasn’t going to be afraid of a vampire or two. They weren’t all bad. She also had faith that she was going to be alright with her cards in hand. The letter from the leader of the Monster Hunting league had mentioned about the house with a magical barrier on it. She was trying to think of something when Noya perked her head up from her perch on the short mages shoulders. She let up a rather excited chirp as she looked to Karasuki. Gaia taps her chin again as she puffs her cheeks. “Would you happen to know another way besides the train and carriage to get to the Spooky Forest? A faster way if you will? I want to get there quicker than a train or carriage could take us, even combined.” She tells her guild mate.

Regardless of how they get to the edge of Spooky Forest, when they got there, Gaia went on high alert immediately. She wasn’t wanting to risk her companions life. Karasuki’s, or Noya’s. The forest was as dark and spooky as she remembered it. Would she be okay to lead? Was she good enough to do this? She honestly still didn’t believe she was good enough to be a Rising Star or an Ace of a guild if she were quite honest. She looked to Karasuki and smiled slightly to her. “Ready to go in? We should stick close. Last time I was here, there was the undead coming after me…” She confessed while scratching the back of her head. She needed to keep focus… They were after information on this new vampire breed… and they had to go in here to an old house that was probably dusty. Noya’s black eyes looked up to her master as she started walking into the forest slowly, patiently waiting on Karasuki. “How big would you think the house would be? A shack? Or a full house?” She chuckles quietly as she looks over her shoulder towards her companion. A shack would be quite terrible in the brown eyed mages mind. She shook her head a little and pulled out the job request once more to see where they were going. The job request included a map to the house, and she wanted to use it wisely.

Find the Vamp-Book Empty Re: Find the Vamp-Book

Post by Karasuki 30th May 2019, 6:30 am

Karasuki gave Gaia a relaxed smile as she approached. The ace didn't look like she was ready to hike through the forest to the house, never mind fight vampires in the woods. The book mage attributed it to the woman's likely profound experience level. "As ready as I'll ever be. The last time I was there was less than pleasant, so I can't imagine this will be better." Karasuki shrugged and waved her hand, "Not that I doubt what we are capable of as a team. I do have a way for us to teleport to the forest, but we might have to get a little close together." She gave a little chuckle and straightened her back. Karasuki already had planned to summon her monk friend and recited the lines from his book eloquently and with proper enunciation.

"Resting a hand on his comrade's shoulder he replied, 'There is no such thing as a perfect person. That is why we can't live alone, no da!'" A sugegasa hat appeared in a cloud before the purple haired mage and Gaia. Ryokō appeared next, the hat riding above his head as if he came from inside of it all along, standing in a pose with his hand in position for concentrating chi energy. He lifted his hand up to his hat and removed it with a bow, his bluish purple mohawk flopping over the side as he greeted them. "Good morrow Kara, and to her lovely friend. What can I do to help you today?" He seemed very friendly and positive but a large scar over his eye indicated experience with fighting. Ryokō wore heavy purple and white robes, wielding a shakujo staff in his free hand which made metallic jingles as he bowed and straightened back up. "Hello, Ryokō, so good to see you. Thanks for coming." Most summons were obligated to appear or appeared through contracts which gave summons sometimes more power than the summoner. Here, Karasuki and Ryokō seemed to treat each other as friends and as equals.

"This is Miss... Gaia Sabin. She is an Ace for my guild. We have to travel quickly to the Spooky Forest, can you take us?" The purple haired woman asked politely. Ryokō gave a nod to Gaia in acknowledgement of her introduction, "Ryokō, miss. And I could, but the last time you were there... was it not exceedingly dangerous? You have a plan this time?" Karasuki looked a bit embarrassed and flustered, gesturing to Gaia, "It's for a job, Ryokō. We'll be fine." The monk looked concerned but didn't argue with the mage. He stepped towards her and wrapped his staff arm around her like an older brother would, holding her close. He looked to Gaia, "Stand very close to me, please, and stay still." Assuming that the ace did, the monk would lower his enormous sugegasa, the conical hat enveloping them and lowering to the ground until the three vanished. In the Spooky Forest, the hat lifted again revealing that they were indeed where Karasuki had asked the monk to take them.

He released the women but placed a hand on Karasuki's shoulder, warning her to be safe before putting the hat on his head. He gave a nod and vanished in a poof of smoke, leaving the pair of guild mages to begin their job in the moody light of the dense forest. "You faced undead here too?" Kara said to Gaia, following beside her in stride. "Sounds like perhaps vampires are not so unusual a problem. My guess, if it was used by a hunter as a base..." She paused listening in the forest, wondering if the crackle of broken twigs was the mages themselves as they walked or if the sounds of the forest were already getting under her skin. "My guess," She continued slowly, "is a small house. A hunter needs a safe place to do his work and I doubt he or she would risk the walls collapsing around him in some old shack."

She heard Gaia chuckle and couldn't help but smile with her. This place didn't look like the sort where anyone would want to live. As the ace examined the map, Karasuki kept alert, looking around them suspiciously. It was probably the wind or wildlife, but the sooner they got to the house the better. At least Karasuki thought they would know what to expect there. "You can lead us there right?"

    GAIA SABIN
    The Cards Aren't Always Right
The bespeckled tarot mage ace smiles to her guildmate, and nods. "Great! So we've both been to the spooky forest and are slightly familiar with there!" She smiles to the other with a nod. As she mentions having a way to teleport to the forest, Gaia's eyes light up. "I don't think getting close to one another just to travel to the forest will be an issue." She comments to the other. If it meant traveling fast, Gaia honestly didn't care. Her burnt sienna eyes looked towards Karasuki curiously as she started calling forth her summon, grinning a bit because of it. Seeing others magics and what they could do, she honestly couldn't deny that she enjoyed seeing it first hand. It made her feel giddy. She looked a bit in awe at the monk before them. And he was polite! Bonus from her cards at least. She smiles and bows a little at the summon. Most of the dragons in Gaia's cards were rather rude, as they were mainly royal dragons, but there were polite ones. She let Karasuki take care of requesting her summon to help them out, and waited patiently for his reply. His question had her giggling a little bit.

"Ryokō, please don't fear, I am here to assist her. She won't be going there alone." She muses as she knew this would be dangerous. "I assure you I'll do my best as an ace of Sabertooth to keep her safe." She put a hand on her chest and bowed to the summon, hoping to calm his nerves. Her cards were the same way. They may seemed like they didn't care, but they didn't want her harmed at all and safe. When she was instructed to stand close and be still to the summon, she did just so. No way was she going to argue and challenge their way of travel.

As she was questioned in the forest about facing undead here, Gaia nods. "Yes. I had a friend reach out to me… He had unfortunately met his demise from the undead infecting him…" She frowns as she takes a deep breath. She could still remember how he looked in that abandoned cabin somewhere in here again… and how Masha had to take care of him. She grits her teeth and shakes her head. Now wasn't the time. They had a task to focus on. Vampires. She looks towards her companion again as she fell silent for a moment, doing the same and pausing in her steps slowly. There wasn't much she was hearing… yet. She wasn't going to let the forest get her spooked again! No way José! The purple haired mages guess, kinda made the bluish black haired mage nod in agreement. A small house was better than a shack at least. She hoped that this place wasn't run down like a shack could be.

When she was questioned on her leading abilities, Gaia smiled. "Yup! If anything, I can use my cards like a compass and steer us in the right direction." She says as she waves her hand and the cards came out floating a bit. Why not use them now as a precaution? They started getting ahead of the trio. She grins to herself, always in awe of the spectacle before her when she used them. Now there was definitely no way they would get lost unless something distracted the cards by attacking them. Goodness… Gaia hoped that wouldn't happen. She was thankful though, as nothing did distract the cards and they directed them to the house like it was nothing. Just like Karasuki guessed, the house didn’t look too bad, but it stuck out like a sore thumb in this forest. It was also slightly run down too. “The monster hunter league says that the house is protected by a shield that only lets “beings with magical energy to pass through” to get in. Meaning, we can go in no issue.” She murmurs while making her way towards the building. She wasn’t rushing, wanting to keep pace with her fellow guild member.

The grey wooden paneled house got closer as they walked up to it. Gaia wasn’t too sure if there even had been a shield in place. Or, because she and Karasuki had magic, they passed through it without issue. She slowed her pace as they reached the porch. Looking back at Karasuki, Gaia nods slowly to her. “Keep your wits about.” She murmurs as she reached the door. She held her staff to be slightly in front of her, and opens the door slowly. The house seemed like it was empty for years. All the furniture sitting still and dusty from years of being unused. “I don’t think anyone’s been here for ages?” She murmurs as she walks cautiously through the threshold.

Noya nervously shivers as she stayed around her master's neck. The place was giving the ferret the creeps, especially since she was starting to hear things already and her master didn’t seem to notice any of them yet. Gaia was actually being affected by it too… She was hearing whispers already, and was feeling paranoid. She couldn’t understand this tongue… Maybe Ruvel knew what language was being whispered to her? She’d have to ask him to teach her one of these days when she met up with him again. She gripped her bladed staff harder, peeking over to Karasuki. “Lets see what we can find on any information of these vampires…” She mutters. She didn’t seem too thrilled, and was much more tense already as she let her burnt sienna eyes travel around the main room of the house.

Find the Vamp-Book Empty Re: Find the Vamp-Book

Post by Karasuki 3rd October 2019, 3:01 pm

Karasuki had faith in Gaia's cards, understanding them to be for Gaia what her own summons were to her. If nothing else, even if they weren't always friends, they were certainly reliable. The cards would take them to the house without fail. As they walked through the forest, Karasuki could hear light whispers. She didn't say a word of them to Gaia, not wanting to seem crazy, but the voices and whispers got louder as they approached the gray house. "Go ahead in," said one voice, "Leave this place!" cried another. But out of all the whispers, she couldn't make out most of the words. It sounded like a different language. Maybe she was just anxious, given this place was filled with fearful sorts of beings and monsters and creatures... maybe her fear was just giving her conscious self a voice in the matter. Though, she had to fight to ignore the feeling that that was false because most of the whispers increased her fear without actually using words she could interpret.

She unzipped her pink sweatshirt slightly in order to get some fresh air, maybe slow down her beating heart. "Keep your wits too," Karasuki murmured standing behind Gaia upon the wooden porch. As the ace opened the door, Karasuki got a whiff of dust and coughed. "I'd have to agree with that. It's a lot of dust to come about for a place that is actively lived in." Unless whatever was here wasn't really living or didn't have a care for keeping the place clean. She wasn't ruling out mage zombies or vampire spawn or even magical ghost bears at this rate. Karasuki saw the ferret curl up around Gaia's neck and whispered, "It'll be okay, little guy." The whispers got louder and she bit her lip, finally uttering to Gaia, "Can you hear that? I.. I don't know where it's coming from but... I hear voices. Do you think there are others here?"

Karasuki walked around the room slowly, taking it in. She pulled off her glasses and rubbed the dust from them and then examined the main living area cautiously. A couch with grey cushions and dark green pillows sat in the center beside two large armchairs and a large flat wooden table. Books and papers rested haphazardly upon the table and some circular stains suggested cups of coffee or wine had once also been present. The female fingered the books, drawing a clean mark over where her lithe fingers brushed the spines. She used her thumb to clear the titles: "Photographer's Guide to Herbs and Trees", "Romance in the End of the World", and a thick encyclopedia called "The Encyclopedia of the Mystical and Strange: a Book on Fatal Phenomenons and Unexplained Disasters". A woven cloth rug led from the door of the house to the hallway behind the couch and sliding her body between the wall and the furniture only solidified her idea that this place belonged to a single person or a pair of mages at a time. A decent protective base but not a long term living arrangement. The hallway was dark and a single light on the wall made of wrought iron appeared to be covered in cobwebs and smeared with grime. It hadn't been lit up in a long time, Karasuki thought, as she stepped forward. The woman lifted up the dust book of matches and lit the light and it streamed throughout the hall. There were two rooms and a set of stairs leading down into another dark place also but from where she stood, Karasuki saw neither any evidence of critters or monsters or even the movement of shadows. A small hallway table held another stack of books and Karasuki moved to pick one up.

The book was thin with a small lock upon it and a symbol she couldn't quite place on the cover. It could have been a planner, a book of correspondence, a journal, or a magical version of any of the three. The pages looked somewhat water damaged and wrinkled, but without breaking the lock she couldn't tell what the book was. She wasn't sure if reading some poor league mage's mournful or bored script was going to be worth trying to break the little lock. "I don't see anything so far. Couple rooms back here though. I'm going to check the one on the right out." The book they were looking for had to be somewhere, but the more she thought about it, the less Karasuki believed it would be found right in the open. If it was still in the house, the mage hunter might have been smart enough to hide it.

Karasuki stepped into the room noting it looked just like a bedroom. There wasn't anything special about it to her eyes. As she walked little clouds of dust curled up around her legs. The bed was made and the single blanket was covered in a blanket of dust as well. A small bookshelf on the wall called her attention and she stepped around the bed to a tiny wooden table. She lit the lamp upon it as well and let out a sigh. There were dozens of books on the shelf and she would have to check each one of them to be able to rule out their usefulness. She read them out loud as she trailed her fingers over the covers, "Dynamics of Fire, The Ancient History of Magic, The Use of Glass and Stone in Magic Construction, Instilling Protective Barriers." The purple-haired woman grimaced. It was all old manuals and magical scripts. She went to the second shelf and groaned as she read them out loud as well, "Deep Water and Desire, The Fire and Flames of Love, The Duke and Duchess, Forbidden Seduction of the Mage of Hollow... these are all romance novels. Really?" She shook her head dismally. She supposed mage hunters kept up in the house needed some downtime to relax and restore but she wasn't much a fan of these trashy works herself. She couldn't appreciate the romantic fancies when her own escapades had ended so tragically.

She felt a cool chill tickle the back of her neck and turned in time to see the open mouth scream of a ghostly woman. Karasuki shrieked right alongside the screaming translucent phantom. Karasuki leaped backward into the case of books and the ghost dove towards her. The ghost flew through her body and Karasuki trembled. She shivered and called out again, "G-gaia! Gaia!!" Karasuki ran words through her mind, deciding on what spells to cast and what summon to bring forth. But the ghost was gone, vanished through the bookcase and the wall. Karasuki swirled around but still, there was no sign. She shouted again, "Gaia there was a woman.. a- a ghost woman! I felt so... cold..!" her body trembled a little more, filled with adrenaline. She felt somewhat tired and drained and the strange whispers got louder in her head, almost mocking her fear as her eyes sought out the ghostly woman.
