High humidity and salt present in the air. Normally very unfavorable conditions for any piece of technology. However, MAI was quite a bit different in that aspect. Her parts were made out of extremely high-quality materials that were resistant to such conditions, even over very long exposure times. And so the unit had to trouble to move through the city in search of a specific building. Or perhaps search was not the right word to use here. After all, she was guided by her internal navigation system, freshly updated after the latest maintenance at Sabertooth’s headquarters. Though, unfortunately, maintenance was not where she could be done.

Apparently, she needed something else if the unit was to operate effectively in this new and interesting world. A passport that would ensure her passage beyond the borders of Fiore. An interesting fact that created some direct links in MAI’s conscious memory unit, leading her to create data that portrayed this specific kingdom as one that kept its citizens in check, not allowing them to leave without proper documentation. This was pretty consistent with the records about Fiore being a monarchy, ruled by a single family that went unchallenged for ages. Thankfully obtaining these documents was quite easy for members of mage guilds.

The unit herself now apparently counted in that now, given that Sabertooth had taken her into their care. Obviously, she was still just a tool to be used rather an actual member, but allegedly that should pose no issues. Still, the unit was somewhat unhappy with the fact that she had to obtain these documents by herself, as having a fellow guild member by her side would have increased the success rate of this mission by a considerable margin. Alas, no one was available. And so, disguised with her parka that boasted rabbit ears, the unit stopped in front of the building. There seemed to be a line forming.

One step at the time Raviel made his way through town. Exploring different locales had become a curious habit of his. The World of the Living was full of surprises. Full of twists and turns, the Soul Reaper could not help but be completely captured by his curiosity to know more.

While he did not like crowded places, as those would usually become way too loud for his liking, he was interested in all the special trinkets the Living used. While he could pretty much open a portal just about anywhere on the material plane, it seemed that the Living needed a small booklet to travel anywhere for some reason. It was not like they needed to prove themselves to get it, as it was literally being handed out for free right there and now in that city, so the Soul Reaper had to wonder why the need for such things.

Raviel kept walking, stopping by only to fiddle with his tabi boots for a few moments. As much as he enjoyed wearing his armor and as comfy said armor would fit on him he always had a nack for looking dapper wherever he was. As such, no detail had to be left unattended. It was a quirk of his, but a sprinkle of perfectionism never hurt anyone.

The office issuing the booklets was big. Not as big as Raviel's living place but still sizable. The overall architecture of the building was not something Raviel had seen elsewhere. It must have been something unique of the city he was in. He had to admit those columns though were quite ornate.

And so, for the very first time in a long long while, the young prince seemed to be lost in his own machinations. Passing by a stranger with lavender hair and a purple jacket walking nonchalantly in the opposite direction, Raviel bumped into a girl wearing bunny years on his way closer to the office. Well, more than bump it was more like a soft poke on the girl's back, as the Voidborne Prince's usual slow deliverate movements allowed him to catch himself before he could really trample over other people.

"My apologies, o stranger mine." He quickly excused, bowing down. "It was not my intention to disturb your peace."

The bump was quickly noticed by MAI’s motion sensors, even if it was a light one. This prompted the unit to turn around in order to confirm the identity of whatever it was that got so close. Given the city environment, no guard systems were activated, either. It would be rather foolish if someone attempted to attack her in such a large crowd. And at the same time, it would be less than ideal if the unit herself activated her defenses here and obtained the attention of local guards as a result. In the end, what stood near her was a young-looking boy.

The unit’s scanner system automatically activated, a targeting reticle of sorts appearing in her eyes as they locked on the boy’s figure. The scan was almost immediate from there on, and naturally, he felt nothing at all. Given the fact that MAI currently had access only to publicly available data that any mage or citizen could access, all that the scan reveal was the boy’s name and that he was part of the West Fiore Trading Company. Thankfully, that much had also ascertained that he was harmless to the unit, or perhaps even on her side.

Response: There is no need to apologize, no damage has occurred.

There was but one problem with MAI at the moment. With the parka over her head, all mechanical parts of her body were pretty well hidden. Sure, the boy could have noticed the change in her eyes when she initiated the scan, but that could have been attributed to magic easily enough. However, the unit’s communications skills were still rather… robotic. And right now, her logic systems demanded a bit of an answer that could finalize the data created by the scan.

Query: Why is a mage hired by the West Fiore Trading Company present?

Oh boi, another one like this. Well, to be fair, this one seemed to atleast be the thing she acted as. Raviel observed as the robot scanned him, by now used to the uncommon but eventual meetings with a machine intelligence. He quietly stepped backwards to give himself space while still keeping himself centered towards the android. It did not seem like it was in any way hostile for the moment, but vigilance from the young prince was still much needed.

Then the thing spoke, inquiring the reason of his presence in Hageon town. Wether it was curiosity or not, it was best to answer with honesty, as per usual. "I...am here to acquire...a...travel booklet." He simply stated with his usual calm attitude. While it had been a while since he first arrived in the World of the Living, it seemed that he still had some trouble when it came to speaking with his mouth. While he was making progress, having spent the entirety lf his existance communicating through telepathy he was bound to have some difficulties.

He was growing kind of uncofortable standing there with that thing staring at him unblinking. Did his answer not satisfy the soulless machine in front of him? Was there else he was supposed to have said that he did not? Perhaps there was another reason why the robot had not ceased staring. Was it due to his affiliation with the West Fiore Trading Company? It was not like he was an employee there, he had no need for compensation, nor he was really interested in what their function was within the World of the living either. The only reason he was there it was simply to learn more about the Living known as Ruvel Mizune and the extent of his power.

Actually, more than his power per se he was seeking to learn more about his summoning pact with his two brothers Shindara and Amuul. Still, that machine did not know that. Did he need to tell it that? Why would he tell that thing confidential stuff anyway. She was just a random acquantsnce he would likely never meet again after today. There was little to no reason for Raviel to say anything specific about himself.

The unit would observe Raviel carefully as her scanners continued to take apart any of his outward signatures. Normally this process was pretty much instant, but in the case of this man, there was some irregularities. To be precise, he didn’t appear to be human. But then again, Mai’s sensors were currently not in the best state they could be, so they were unable to properly identify whether he really was a member of different species, or if such irregularities were caused by his magic. Alternatively, any interference from the outside could also not be ruled out, making this into a somewhat pointless observation at this point in time.

Raviel’s speech also alarmed certain sensors, but they did not detect hesitancy associated with the need to lie, so it was instead attributed to a speech impediment. And so the personalized profile was quickly building up, just a natural thing that the unit did without even realizing it. Such was her programming, to gather valuable intel about, well, anything! But of more importance was her actual conscious data. The answer to her query was that he was also looking to get a passport. This appeared to be rather beneficial to Mai, who suddenly raised one of her hands up.

Proposition: Assist this Unit in acquiring the passport documentation. Thus Unit currently lacks proper supervision and due to her partial maintenance mode, such assistance would be greatly beneficial.

And so was the plea. Mai required some help from a living and breathing mage, as getting a passport by herself could prove rather troublesome precisely due to her inorganic nature. Some would probably even see it as a very elaborate prank and send her away if she requested the passport directly. But with some human(ish) supervision, her chances grew substantially greater. Something that had to be exploited!

"Do you...always speak like that..." Raviel mumbled, somewhat weirded out by whoever that weird machine was supposed to resemble. If it tried to be like a Living, well. It was not really doing a stellar job at it. Aside from not having any discernable soul energy to speak of, the android showed no emotions in its speech.

Raviel quieted down, simply staring at the weird machine as it tried to talk him into helping it get a passport. Now the young reaper had to be wondering why would a machine like that one want to get a passport. Why would a machine in general try to fool other in thinking it was human, when the moment it spoke it would break any suspension of dispbelief and catapult anyone straight into uncanny valley weird zone.

"I...um...am sorry. But I cannot aid you...in your endeavour." Raviel replied as he slowly circled around the robot, keeping his eyes still on target just in the odd chance his reply would trigger a offensive response. Even in his denial, the young void prince always strived to be as polite abd respectful as ever. "Acquiring a passport is a personal matter that cannot be delegated to other people. Moreover, I...have no idea if...uhm...machines are required to own a passport."

Having completed his motion, Raviel found himself on the opposit side of the robot, as he intended. "It has been a pleasure to speak with you, o acquaintance mine, but I must quicken my pace. May we cross path again in the future." He added, bowing, before slowly turning his back to the robot and resuming his walk towards the passport registration center at a steady yet relaxed pace. He could be seen stopping a few steps away to fiddle with his boots, then his gloves before continuing on with his voyage toward his main objective.

Failure to parse statement. The speech protocols for this unit has not been changed in [Data Unavailable] days. Accumulated information shows sufficient success rate in transferring required data between this unit and other subjects.

Obviously, the boy’s comment about Mai’s speech was seen as a bit of a critique. And while certainly hard to get used to, it worked so far. People were able to understand her or at least figure out the core message she was trying to convey without too many complications. And to change the way she was speaking, new protocols would have to be installed.

Suffice to say, she just didn’t have any access to those. Future expeditions and recovery of such software were her only hopes in becoming more human-like when it came down to vocal speech. Though what came next was even more disappointing than this critique of something she could not just change, as much as others wanted her to. That was, he decided to not help her.

Tilting her head to the side like a curious animal, her big eyes continued to fixate on him as he made his excuse and slowly walked around the mechanical girl, saying his farewell and then going on ahead. As much of a problem as this was, the unit could not stop him. He was not someone she was really allied with and pestering him would break her own protocols about civilians.

Hanging her head a bit low, she decided to join the queue herself. But on that day, she was unable to obtain a passport. It was something she needed to cross the borders despite being a machine due to the law system not exactly being prepared for such a being as her. But when it came down to obtaining it, her mechanical self was not the problem. It was the fact that she had stated that her age was a mere 2 years old.

This was the time that had elapsed since she was manufactured, as far as her data showed, anyway. So to get a passport, she required older supervision of another mage, one that she hoped Raviel would fill. But since he did not, she was sent away and had to return on another day with an actual member of Sabertooth who took care of that little problem. Still, it was quite a shame.
