Luna looked up at the sky, and saw the grey clouds overhead, she could smell the moisture in the air, rain yet to come. Luna guessed it was an hour away, but the mood was perfect giving the situation.  She hated large scale conflict, but the job post was urgent and she did not want to let anyone of her guild get tempted. If she wanted anyone to die, it was herself, not that she was suicidal but she was not naive. One mistake and this job turns into a one way mission as it was fighting the climax of a war on two fronts. Luna stood overlooking a cliff solemnly, she wondered if she was going to die this day.

She wondered if yesterday was the last day she hugged her adopted daughter, tucked her sister into bed, and if her grave was near this location. She felt scared, for once she dropped her facade, the trembling in her fingers grew as the reality set in, she wasn't a fighter yet she signed herself up to face two armies. She wondered if others took this job, her only hopes were that others accepted the call.

She checked her Ilac and refreshed her memory on the task at hand, two armies over a thousand each, she knew that blood will shed regardless of her efforts, it would be impossible. She put away the deice, her body was warm but she felt cold, this job could very well kill her. She was no stranger to resolving through conflict, but in all those times she never had to face such a large scale. "I never wanted my life to be this way, I just wanted to be a simple housewife. Ironic huh, the one girl with the smallest dreams gets too live the biggest life. It hasn't even been a year and now I'm responsible for a few dozen lives and more..."

She watched the water as, and heard the serene sound she tried to calm herself, easing her way into putting the facade back on, awaiting her allies or the enemies to arrive.

"Character counts most when duty calls."

It was strange for her to be leading an army.

Serilda was used to leadership, of course. As a noblewoman, it was a role she’d been raised to since birth, particularly as she was the heiress of her father’s title, wealth, and business. She had also been the head of their security in the mines for several years, which had put her in authority over quite a number of militants.

This was a little different, however. She had been summoned by one of the generals of the Rune Knights to help assist with a matter of concern that was brewing at the Serene Cliffs. Two clans were warring with one another, and had been for some time, but the conflicts were coming to a head in a manner that was promising to be quite violent. The Magic Council didn’t seem terribly upset about the possibility of both clans wiping one another out -- after all, that would just rid them of a headache -- however, the Council leaders were concerned about the fights spreading to nearby cities and affecting innocent people uninvolved with the dispute.

Because of this, they decided it was better to deal with the situation rather than just let it sort itself out. The Council had reached out to any available guild for assistance. More curiously, however, was the fact that Serilda had been specifically requested for the job. She had made a name for herself several times over with the Council so far, and not just them but the Rune Knights as well. So when one of the generals of the Knights requested an audience with her to enlist her assistance, she wasn’t terribly surprised.

What had surprised her was the captain’s insistence that he send a company of his soldiers along with her to help with the fighting. His aim was to capture the leaders of both clans and have them apprehended and brought back to Era for justice, but he knew that it was a task that would not be easily done if she had to focus on fighting the clans. Thus, her assignment was to focus on apprehending the leaders, while the Knights were to maintain order with the bulk of the clans.

It was not an easy assignment. This was more than just a skirmish or a brawl. This was going to be a full blown, mass scaled battle. People were going to die on all sides, possibly even Serilda herself. The Voidwalker wasn’t going to pretend like the idea didn’t intimidate her. However, her sense of duty and honor, and her need to protect the innocent, won out in the end. She accepted the mission, as well as the responsibility that came with it as the men that were to be accompanying her were to treat her as their lead commanding officer.

Thus it was that Serilda made her way toward the cliffs with an army of over one thousand Rune Knight soldiers. She had them get as close as they could to the rumored grounds where the battle was supposed to take place, but not quite close enough to yet be discovered. Serilda wanted to scope the landscape out first and see what they were up against before jumping into the fray, particularly when the number of Knights that they had been able to spare was still less than what either clan had on their own.

Additionally, she had been made aware that she was to be meeting another wizard that would be assisting them. Luna Mira was the guildmaster of Aurora, a legal guild that Serilda was aware of but had not interacted with in any capacity. Even if it was just one other wizard that had answered the call, Serilda had taken solace in the fact that it was the head of the guild, which meant they had sent probably the best they had to offer.

As they got close to the area, Serilda could sense a lone figure in the distance through her Void magic. “Wait here,” she told the captain that was her second in command. “Stay out of sight for now and lay low. I’ll rendezvous with Aurora’s guildmaster and meet you all back here.”

    “Understood, my lady.”

As the captain signaled for the army to stop, Serilda continued on until she found Luna and approached her. The other woman was a few inches shorter than she, with pink hair and vivid green eyes. Serilda memorized her face and features and committed them to her memory. “Master Luna?” the noblewoman asked, seeking verification of the woman’s identity rather than making assumptions.

Presuming the woman was, indeed, confirmed as the one she was supposed to meet, Serilda would extend a firm, professional hand to shake. “An honor to meet you. I am Serilda Sinclair, a wizard with Sabertooth though today I am operating on behalf of the Rune Knights. I hope you have not been waiting long; the council sent me with a company of Knights so our travels were a bit slower than I would have liked.” A small price to pay to have a significant amount of help in the upcoming battle.

“Our forces are gathered around the ridge to await the start of the battle. Would you prefer to join us back there? I would prefer not to be out in the open when the enemy arrives, and it may be wise for us to try to scout and gather some additional intelligence before things have a chance to come to a head since we will still be heavily outnumbered in this fight.”

Hearing someone call her name, she turned to the side, the fairy looked up to see the white haired wizard approach. Albeit being called master, she was glad to see that she wasn't alone in fighting off literally two armies. Even with Zixcor and Tierra and all her other summons available, she would definitely not be able to face them alone. Mentally she sighed and told herself to buck up, she is a master, and she has to deal with it. Not to mention several Sabertooth members already know her, there was no point in hiding it, especially if there was a war at stake, she needed to appear strong in mind and on the battlefield.

She met the firm handshake, but she heard the sound of her knuckles cracking, however she rationed that off to not being as strong in body. She was more of a healer, pacifist, and otherwise supporting person, she didn't build herself to be able to take down walls with her bare hands.  "Yes, I am Luna Mira, quite frankly with all of my names I'm surprised you called me master. Last I checked only two Sabertooth wizards know me by name as master, and Aurora is not that popular."

Luna nodded in agreement when Serilda suggested the two go rejoin the forces. She didn't know if anyone else was joining, but she assumed not if Serilda didn't mention there was another party. However she wondered how much work she had cut out for her, on the battlefield and afterwards, Nature fairies are some of the best healers known. "I concur, I was only in the open as I was not informed if any other party was going to arrive. I alone came from my guild. I had no choice but to come alone, it was the lesser of three evils. my original plan was to summon Zixcor, a dragon of chaos I am bound with. Let's just say summoning him to fight two armies would send him to nirvana way before his grave."

Luna would follow the older woman, trying to think of her place, and how she looked. On the one hand, she hardly gave off the aura of strength one would expect, she constantly felt sub-par, yet here she stood at a place where any shred of doubt becomes a dead body. She kept wondering how she ended up in this situation. She shrugged off her doubts and decided to focus on the task at hand. She figured the only things left to figure out is when and from which direction either army is arriving from but for all she knew she could very well be wrong. "So, what do we really know about these Pyjacks and Buzzards? As far as I heard, they are basic story bandit clans with gross numbers, nothing notable about either parties power except for either master. Not to mention the story of how this even started, I've been around nine places on the way, each tavern had a different story ranging from a bad beard trim while asleep to cutting off something that doesn't see the light of day and everything in between. Not much consistency. Some of them were just unsettling."

"Character counts most when duty calls."

The woman returned her handshake, though not as firmly, and seemed a bit surprised that Serilda knew who she was. “The council was concerned about you being the only one to respond to the summons, so they contacted me and asked me to join you. They advised me who I would be meeting with, though truthfully I already was already aware of your status with Aurora. I come from a noble family that is based out of Clover Town, and we do our best to keep up with news from all the guilds.” Typically Serilda didn’t really go out of her way to mention being nobility, especially on a job, but given Luna’s surprise the Voidwalker felt an explanation was best. Clover Town was where all the masters of legal guilds met every year, and with Serilda’s family being very influential in the town and doing business with a large majority of mages there it wasn’t difficult for them to get news of new masters or new guilds.

As they walked back to where the Knights were camped, Luna explained a bit about why she had been the only person form her guild to come. She also shared what some of her plans had been, which focused primarily on summoning a dragon to take care of the fighting. Not a bad plan if she had been handling this alone, though the thought of running into a real dragon firsthand sent a bit of a shiver down her spine. Serilda covered it well, but she wasn’t a fan of beings or creatures that one might consider supernatural, with great power. A dragon appearing out of nowhere in the battlefield would honestly scare her half to death, but at the same time she knew she needed to make peace with the idea. Given what they were up against, they may need all the help they could get.

Serilda did chuckle a little with Luna’s comment about how eager the dragon of chaos would be to play with both armies. Whether or not she was scared of such great beasts, she could still appreciate the somewhat grim humor of such a creature taking delight in toying around on a battlefield with all the men that were putting innocent people in jeopardy. “Well, we’ll take a moment to pool our resources and get our bearings to see what we can come up with. I’m not exactly keen on dragons, but if he’s on our side I won’t turn down the help.”

Luna asked her about what she knew regarding the situation, as well as relaying some of her own information she’d gone looking for. Serilda was glad to know that the woman had kept herself busy while waiting for things to get started, and she nodded her appreciation of the guildmaster’s efforts. “I know about as much as you, I’m afraid. The only thing the council really gave me was that the feud between the two clans has been going on for quite some time. I’m sure the real reason that it started has been lost between all the drama. In situations like this, half the time the people involved don’t even remember why they’re fighting in the first place, they’re just hellbent on being stubborn. If it weren’t for the fact that this battle is to be staged so close to some of the villages around here I think they’d be perfectly fine with just letting the lot kill each other. Unfortunately, that option puts a lot of innocent people at risk.”

They came around the corner and Luna would see a large but quiet makeshift camp being put together by a group of about a thousand Rune Knights, each dressed for battle and ready to be put to use. They had put themselves safely tucked out of sight, and most of the men were busy cleaning and sharpening weapons, or securing magical items on their persons. Most of them acknowledged the two women as they walked by, but did not stop what they were working on to salute or greet them formally -- there were far more important things to be done.

A couple of the wizards among them had already used their magic to quickly put up a makeshift tent as a base of command. It was nothing grand, honestly little more than a large brown tarp that blocked out the worst of the sun and the other desert elements. Serilda pulled back the flap politely for Luna, allowing her to walk inside first. The interior was mostly bare aside from a small worn table with a geographical map of the area. Another table to the side had a basin of water with some cups, in case anyone got thirsty. A very small handful of Knights were inside, talking over the map and putting marks on it as to where the different villages in the area were and where the two armies would be coming from, at least as known to the best of their intelligence.

Serilda poured two glasses of water and offered one to Luna. “Why don’t you tell me a bit about your magic and where your strengths lie? The more we know of one another, the better we’ll know how to approach this. For me, my magic is a little complicated to explain but the general gist of it is that I can manipulate the molecules in the world around me. Most of my spells are heavily geared toward fighting or controlling groups of people at a time, but I am also skilled with a sword.” She patted the hilt of the scimitar that was sheathed at her hip, taking a moment to take a sip of the water and let it wet her pallet. Serilda wasn’t exactly a fan of hot environments, and the drink helped her to cool down. She paused there to give Luna a chance to reply, respectfully giving the guildmaster her full attention.

When water runs still, Empty Re: When water runs still,

Post by Luceam 23rd February 2019, 9:20 pm

Walking through the camp, Luna was in awe of the sheer efficiency of the Rune Knights. She looked around at the camp and was a remarkable feet to say the least. She saw how effective the militaristic organization was and just how different Rune Knight's and Aurora Wizard's were, but to be fair the average age in her guild at the moment were young children and these seemed to be trained and somewhat experienced adults. She knew there was no comparison, which was of no aid to her self esteem.

For the meantime, she was focused solely on the magnificent swordswoman in front of her as she was escorted through the camp and to the central command.  However when she learned that not only was Serilda commanding an army today, she was a noble with high class connections and knew about her prior to the assignment. She almost felt as though she was exposed naked before the woman,  power, knowledge, status, there was nothing Luna had, as truth be told if it wasn't for a freak accident  she would still be a lowly non-magic human peasant staying at home cooking and cleaning.

She noted all the weapons and how everyone seemed dedicated, and how there was little doubt in the whole camp, with that doubt being her own. The pink haired woman entered the tent after being let in by Serilda, she couldn't help but be amused by the irony. "A noblewoman holding the door for a lowly peasant like me? Times really have changed."

Luna entered the make shift command center and looked at the map, resting two fingers on the map as she used Integrated mind to absorb the information of the map into her, memorizing the locations and getting her bearings through an alternate means.  She figured that information would eventually save a life in the long run, hopefully her own depending on how things played out. She closed her eyes for a moment as she began to sense the energies around her as she realized that while she was noteworthy, she didn't feel like she could live up to the shadow of the title thrust upon her, which sent a chilling thought of realization through her very being.

"Wait a minute, if she was aware all this time I was the master since I received the position, is she aware of why I am Guild master, how I only got it because the magic council was looking for someone stable, only thing she might not know is the blackmailed ultimatum."

The fairy accepted the cup of water, grateful for the gesture as she took a few sips and conferred with Serilda about strengths and weaknesses. She knew that this is where things could go to hell before they started.  From what she could understand, the woman was a skilled close range fighter capable of potentially large scale destruction if she understood correctly. Messing with things on the molecular level seemed to be a type of magic that Luna should be wary of, given that she herself is not always the size of a human. She made a mental note that when she is less than half a foot tall, be careful around Serilda.

Now that it was her time to speak of her abilities, she was nervous as she hoped that she wouldn't disappoint the Swordswoman. "As you may or may not be aware since you know of me, I am a fairy, a Nature Fairy and I live up to all stereotypes you may or may not be aware. I have a crippling weakness to Fae Silver, that shouldn't be relevant as it is a rare substance only found in Seven or other worlds, a common material used by Fairy Hunters, or some bandits who try to be fairy hunters. As a Nature Fairy, I specialize in healing and defensive techniques centering around plants. For the most part I can summon walls of ivy or vines to bind. My own offensive techniques are very limited to a special long range attack that strikes with roots from underground or a sac of acid, but that is where my bound spirits come in. All Nature Fairies share a connection with a world similar to the Celestial Spirits. I already told you about Zixcor of chaos, but he has another name, Zixcor, the life dragon as he literally takes life and turns it into a devastating force. Problem is, Zixcor sees no such thing as friend or foe, he has a bad history of doing whatever he wants, and is not above killing his summoners. He has a bad, history or that."

Luna reached under her red qipao dress as she pulled out the golden key of Scorpio on a thin gold chain before letting it go, it hanging on display. She could hear murmurs about the key from others within visible range, Luna realized with the display she might have just signed her own death warrant for high expectations. "But I do have one Celestial Key under contract, one of the legendary Zodiac, Scorpio. One of my more powerful summons, Scorpio is capable of controlling and manipulating fire as well as generating a temporary sun. Given that fire magic is arguably the most common of all elements aside from water to be used, I'd rather keep her in reserve for a surprise counter depending on the capabilities of the armies. My other bound include Tierra, who has the ability to evolve plants and control plants and animals, Chuck is a wooden shapeshifter, literally able to become anything out of wood and he cannot be sensed by any normal means. The rest would be Vita and Aegis, both skilled hunters in their own right, and Woody, an alcoholic treeman who can regenerate from his wounds and come back stronger to an extent."

Luna knew she was holding back information, but quite frankly in a room of Rune Knights, but figuring out how she could say she is using an illegal magic is a little tricky. "Well, for now, I might get arrested for saying this but I unfortunately am in possession of-" She could feel a glare but could not figure out where it was coming from. She figured better to finish her sentence. "- possession of an illegal magic called Integration, that allows me to integrate elements into my body and mix them with energy based techniques. But I also received training from an retired Rune Knight. I may not be an experienced melee fighter, but I can hold my own against most ruffians. As for weapons, I am hiding twin blades on my person and the ring on my finger is capable of shooting lightning while boosting my speed. "

Luna took a deep breath as she took another sip of water, nervous. She basically explained everything she was capable of, but she was worried she came off as a disappointment. She was no Wizard Saint, she knew she couldn't have too high expectations, but she still couldn't ease that red alarm in her head. Although bringing up she is using a forbidden magic did not ease any spirits. "So long story short I am a great healer and supporter. I am capable of fixing amputated limbs and damaged organs, even outright replacing them. As long as your men keep their bodies intact, I can revive them even from death's grip depending on the severity and time. As long as they have their brains or hearts. But it would still be a days work."

Luna would then look at the map, wondering how things would fair, and what response would result in the most effectiveness with the least amount of casualties. She wondered what could be done. "Anyways, I know that they are supposed to fight somewhere around here, but what are the odds of them actually starting the fight here? Bandits aren't known for holding back, and they could risk encountering the other in some other place."

She looked at the map and studied the details, and tried to check the math to see if she was right. She was trying to think of options. "The main issues are numbers. We can look at it like this.." Luna grabbed a sheet of blank sheet of paper and pen as she drew seven marks, four in a row on top and three larger ones bellow. The middle one on the bottom row was smaller then the two on either side, but had two markers near it on the row above with the two bottom ones had just one. She pointed to the middle part. "So let's say the top row presents the major players in each party and the bottom the general forces. In this case us in the middle. Doing the math from the reports as a rough estimate, and hypothesize that Serilda and I each tackle a leader, that still leaves one major problem. Each Rune Knight will have to take on at least 3 bandits. But still, if we get between the two armies that is asking at least 250-300 men to fall from being crushed in from two different armies raising it to 4 bandits per knight, and if we flank, timing and direction is everything as it could easily spread too far to control. If I were to divide my spirits, hypothetically if I send Zixcor to attack  an army, he would either wipe out a third of one of their armies, or half of the Knights easily. It all depends on who sets him off first."

However an alternate scheme popped into Luna's mind as she knew she was in the midst of someone who had some influence. Something that could very well even out the playing field. "Lady Serilda, there are two things about bandits that are always true, they can't see reason and they are mostly alcoholics. What if something happened to the alcohol? I mean, if a little poison got into it. Bandits don't have the brain power to blame us, it would probably start some infighting and could potentially sway things towards our favor. In all honesty, we might not have time to pull that off... Any idea on where each clan is now?"

"Character counts most when duty calls."

Serilda chuckled softly when Luna commented on the irony of a noblewoman holding open a door for someone who was common born, but she did shake her head a bit as well. “Nonsense,” she told the other woman kindly. “Social status matters little on a battlefield. Every man and woman here is putting their lives on the line to protect innocent people that might get caught up in this senseless fight. They should not be treated with less respect just because they aren’t born to privilege.” It would not be difficult for Luna to deduce that Serilda really wasn’t the type of noble that flaunted her status or expected special treatment because of it. In fact, the guildmaster might get the impression that the noblewoman rarely even brought up her status at all unless necessary. The tone with which she spoke seemed to convey that Serilda actually thought very little of nobles that abused their privileges and acted like they were better than everyone else.

Serilda poured the water as Luna used her abilities to memorize the information on the map. She was totally oblivious to the war raging in the guildmaster’s mind regarding how inferior she felt around everyone else. Truthfully, the noblewoman knew little about the circumstances regarding Luna’s promotion to Aurora’s master. She had never really attempted to pry into it, content with the simple knowledge of who, what, and where rather than the why or how -- really, the personal matters of other guilds were none of Serilda’s business.

She listened patiently and without interruption as Luna described a bit of her magic and her own abilities, as well as even a weakness of hers though she agreed with the woman that such a weakness likely would not come into play here. Serilda was unaware that Luna wasn’t human, and there was a very faint twitch of surprise in her eyebrows upon hearing it but nothing more. It seemed most of her magic was focused on the manipulation of nature, as well as healing and defense. She specialized in ranged attacked, and also had more than one summoning spirit at her disposal.

In addition to that, it seemed she also had control of an illegal magic called Integration. Serilda had never heard of it before, so she paid close attention to the woman’s description of it in order to understand its uses. There was no hint of suspicion or judgement on her face for the admission, and even the small handful of Rune Knights within the tent didn’t really seem to pay it any mind. Everyone was here for a far more important matter than arresting or interrogating an ally regarding her magic.

When Luna finished summarizing her skills, Serilda nodded in approval. “Excellent,” she said after taking a sip from her water. “We can never have too many healers, and it seems most of your abilities fall into categories where I am lacking. Between the two of us, I think we can approach this from a fairly well rounded angle.” The woman didn’t appear to be at all let down or disappointed by what Luna had to offer. If anything, Serilda seemed pleased by it.

She shifted easily as the conversation flowed to the plan of action, moving over to stand at the map table so she could view it clearly. The Knights that had been standing there and making adjustments to it stepped aside to make space for the two ladies. Serilda listened attentively once more as Luna described her ascertation of the battlefield -- which was pretty much a summation of Serilda’s own thoughts. On top of that, she also suggested a bit of sabotage to some of each enemy’s supplies.

“Any amount of chaos we can set off among themselves would be beneficial,” Serilda agreed, nodding at the suggestion. She looked up to the captain that was standing at the table with them. “Anyone in your ranks that would be suitable for that kind of work, or anything similar?”

The man nodded. “I have a couple that are adept at poisons and experienced in sabotage. Shall I have them fetched?”

“Yes please.” As the captain waved off one of his lieutenants to carry out the request, Serilda blinked. “Oh, I apologize. How rude of me. Captain Quaid, this is Luna Mira, guildmaster of Aurora.”

Quaid bowed his head to Luna respectfully. “A pleasure to meet you, ma’am.”

“Did you have any information yet on the whereabouts of both camps?”

“Not yet. I sent out my scouting parties to confirm their exact location, as well as where they are moving and how quickly. What you see on the map currently is both army’s last confirmed locations. We should be able to have a more accurate idea of where the two armies will meet long before the battle comes to a head. From our last reports, my estimate is that we have roughly thirty minutes or so before that happens.”

“Perfect. As to your concerns regarding numbers, Master Luna, this is what I was thinking to help us out a bit. Let me know what you think.” Leaning over the table a bit, Serilda traced delicately manicured fingers along its surface as she outlined her proposed plan. “The Council’s main concern is the protection of the nearby villages. What I would like to do is take a portion of the Knights and move them around the back side of these ridges where they will be between the both armies and those villages. If we can stay out of sight for a while, I see no issue in simply letting the battle start and letting them take each other out for a while. Let them do the hard work for us with thinning out their numbers.

“Once the odds are a little better in our favor, we can move this group up to meet the bandits and push them toward the remainder of our troops and box them between us. If we time it right, not only will they have already wiped out a significant number of themselves before we even have to interfere, but once we do they will already be pretty tired. If the fighting starts to move toward the citizens then we can step in quicker as we’ll already have a buffer of Knights blocking that direction.” She paused there to let Luna consider the idea and weigh in her thoughts on it.

Post by Luceam 12th March 2019, 1:08 am

Luna was glad that for the most part, she and Serilda were on the same page for the most part. However she did have minor differences in the execution of Serilda's planning. She did not want to seem rude, paranoid, or like she knows any better but with lives at stake she could not afford any risks. She agreed that the thread of the bandits was great for the innocent population of the villages, but bandits can be easily set off. Action or inaction, both courses of action put lives in jeopardy. "Don't take this the wrong way Lady Serilda, but approaching the villages before a conflict starts is a fools gambit. We risk the possibility that some bandits are not at camp and in the villages for drinking or Shirain forbid a scouting mission in case Rune Knights show up before the big conflict. However I would have to agree with you, I think that while it does provide one of the best advantages possible, we do risk being caught off guard and struck down first."

Luna then started to see another way to handle this situation. She grabbed the golden key around her neck, wondering if this would really work. She ran through all possible alternate scenarios and had one idea in mind. She sighed softly, she was not a tactition but this seemed the best one if not the one Serilda suggested. "Well, one idea comes to mind, but I guarantee no bandit will live and will possibly ruin the environment. As a Nature Fairy, this is probably gonna be the most counter productive thing I'll ever say, but I think a scorched earth approach could work."c

Luna let go of the key as she destressed her muscles, aware that keeping tension would not be of any assistance in this situation. She had to put her own inferiority behind her as there was too much to at stake. There were times she had to stop and ask herself how a girl who just wanted to be nothing more than a simple housewife got into becoming a guild master, an adopted mother before twenty, and now assisting in commanding an army for war. It was only now that Luna realized that she might need to seek some form of counseling.

For now, she kept her focus on the objective at hand as time was of the essence. " I've been thinking, If I can get close to one camp, I can summon Scorpio. From the right angle, she can quickly set the alcohol supply ablaze, starting an alcohol fueled bonfire while setting the rest ablaze. In the midst of this fast and sudden fury of flame, the bandits would be confused and in a frenzy, whether in fighting or trying to escape it would be result in a massive swarm of chaos only to be burned alive. This would no doubt get the other clan's attention and they would see this as an opportunity to finish off what would be left of the other once and for all, and try to close in on them. However while the second clan is nearly done, the Rune Knights can then close in finishing them off."

Luna paused for a minute, letting the idea she suggested sink in with Serilda and the others listening, hoping that they saw the point. "While similar to the plan you suggested, this one allows us to choose the battlefield without anyone knowing. If we really want to sell it, we can always have someone pose as a rat and tell the other what will become, and try to lure the bandits in as soon as they see the smoke. This could leave potentially the majority of just one army to deal with, and minimizes the risk to innocent civilians. However you probably won't get much to interrogate once it's done, not even I would be able to heal the damage I described."

Luna paused for a moment, she had just spoke about killing thousands of people as if it was no big deal, thousands of lives. Her face turned pale as she just felt like she was going to be utterly sick. She was shaking slightly holding the edge of the table as her words echoed in her mind. "Please excuse me for a moment."

Luna slowly stepped outside but picked up her pace so she would be a small distance out of the camp before she started to breathe heavily. The Pinkette mage fell down to her knees and left hand, her right clutching her stomach as it felt severely unstable. She couldn't resist the urge at this point as she ended up vomiting. Although it was vomit, it was glittering. Her breathing was erratic as she was trying to process what she was just talking about. "Me? Condoning and going so far as to plan mass murder? What is wrong with me?" Luna barely stood up, still pale but her shaking seemed to cease. It was at this point, she realized she was where she didn't belong, but she still had to see this through till the end.

She slowly walked back into the command tent, hoping to get the day over with was soon as possible. The Nature fairy knew that she was going to need to clear her head a lot of times today, and probably for the next few after. "Forgive my behavior a minute ago. Anyways, any opinions?"

"Character counts most when duty calls."

“Hrm, you do raise a valid point,” Serilda said, staring down at the map as Luna expressed her thoughts on the proposed plan. The truth was that while the noble woman was more than experience with leading people and had participated in a number of fights, she had never fought a legitimate war before let alone lead a full battalion of troops into battle. While she wasn’t uncomfortable stepping into that role, her lack of full experience in it did mean that she wasn’t fully practiced in the right ways to do things and thus was not prone to the belief that her way was the right way.

Luna followed up the critique with a potential solution, one that surprised Serilda to hear from a nature fairy. She suggested putting flame to one of the camp’s supplies, leaving an opening for the other group to seize an advantage. “In this instance, I don’t think the Council cares too much about interrogating anyone. They just want the groups handled one way or another so innocent people don’t get hurt.” Even as she said it, her mind was churning the plan over and trying to calculate possible outcomes.

Serilda nodded when Luna excused herself. She didn’t say anything, but she did track the woman with her magic. It was not difficult to miss the way her face had lost its color, nor the fact that she’d been shaking a bit during the discussion. The guildmaster of Aurora was clearly upset by this assignment, and that knowledge was only reaffirmed when she sensed the rejection of contents coming out of the woman’s mouth. Honestly, Serilda couldn’t blame her. She wasn’t exactly thrilled about this herself, but her own upbringing had made her more of a pragmatist than an idealist. It wasn’t difficult for her to set the disturbing facts aside, at least for the time being, but certainly not everyone was capable of doing so.

While Luna was gone, Serilda took the time to talk the plan over with the captain. They had plenty of time to reach an agreement by the time Luna had returned. “Not a problem at all, Master Luna. Captain Quaid and I agree that this seems to be the best course of action for the given circumstances. It is imperative that we maintain as much control of the situation as possible, and I think this will do the trick.”

Quaid nodded. “I’ll go round up my men and get them up to speed. When the forward squad is ready I’ll make sure you’re notified, my lady.”

Serilda nodded and the captain left, followed by the couple of Knights that had been with him, giving both women a moment alone with one another. A soft expression came over her face as she looked at the guildmaster. “Please forgive my forwardness,” the voidwalker said with a gentle, understanding tone. “It’s clear to me that this whole situation bothers you, as well as the position you’ve been placed in with it. I just wanted to… I guess reassure you however I could. None of this is easy, and you don’t have to pretend that it is. There’s not a single person here that isn’t daunted by the notion that they may be shedding someone else’s blood today. This kind of work is… well, it’s a very difficult responsibility to have.”

No decent person would ever feel okay about taking another person’s life. The last thing Serilda wanted was for Luna to feel obligated to do so with this job. There was nothing but compassion in her voice as she told the fairy, “Unfortunately, what is necessary isn’t always right. No matter what, a lot of people are going to die today. There is nothing we can do to stop that. All we can do is try to facilitate the damage as best we can to keep the innocent people from being hurt. However, that does not mean that you need to kill anyone, nor take responsibility for anyone dying. The bandits have put this on themselves. For the Rune Knights, this is part of their job and they are already decided that they are able to handle it. You volunteered for this job, but that doesn’t mean you have to be on the front lines getting blood on your hands. Once you take someone else’s life, that’s something you can never undo. Do not put that on yourself for any reason if you don’t want to live with it. At the end of the day the only person you will need to answer to is yourself, and nothing is more important than you being able to live with the choices you make.”

She reached out and put a gentle hand on Luna’s shoulder. Just because this was a war did not mean that either of them had to take lives. Yes, lives would be lost. That was a responsibility that Serilda was prepared to handle, but that did not mean that Luna had to be. Her efforts as a healer would be more than needed, and most importantly Serilda wanted to convey that there were ways Luna could contribute to controlling the situation that didn’t involve her being directly responsible for anyone dying today, nor for mass destruction of the nature in the area. “I think that sabotaging their supplies and causing a commotion to draw the other group out of hiding is the best option, but the methods don’t have to be extreme. Just… don’t do anything that you will regret if you can help it, okay? Let the idiots who started all this be the ones responsible for the lives lost… not yourself.”

"It goes every fiber in my being to even suggest taking lives... "

That was all Luna could say after the Voidwalker tried to comfort her. Hearing that her strategy was right seemed to hurt her, she wanted to be wrong but every pragmatic part of her mind told her that using a massive and spontaneous instance to wipe out one force and allow the other to dwindle it down narrowing down the targets was the right call from a militaristic perspective, but she wasn't a soldier. Her bodt "I am a Nature Fairy, of the Vishda faith, by trade we are naturally against violence and especially death, we are notorious for preventing it among almost all life. We don't like being placed in violent situations and hate taking sides, especially Vishda fairies, there are international treaties that grant capital punishment for forcing a Nature fairy into slavery or to kill given how most of us commit suicide when captured or forced to take lives."

Luna sighed and sat down on a chair nearby, ready to collapse and keel over. She wanted to sleep this whole ordeal away, but sadly that did not seem to be an option as she couldn't let herself, she needed to be able to fight. Her skin was still pale but she stopped shaking, while true she had fought before but never to kill in her right mind. "I never wanted this life, I never even envied wizards, nobility, or any life that looks so glamorous. I hate wealth, fighting, and most of all I never wanted this stupid title of Master but my hands are forced... They're always forced..."

Luna took another sip of water as she was trying to remain composed about the situation but at this point she couldn't delude herself or hold anything in. "All I wanted from this life was a simple one, no grand plan or destiny for greatness. Just a simple housewife, with two or three kids, but then my magic was unsealed and my race changed from human to fairy, or more rather from fairy to human during birth then later back to fairy all because of a curse placed on my human father's ancestor. only human parts I have left are my appendix and a few parts of some organs. I wanted a life of nothing to do with high class snobs or monsters who slay armies-"

She figured that her words were indeed in poor taste as she recalled who she was speaking to, she was stuck between embarrassed and terrified."Forgive me, I've been harboring too much inside ever since the Magic Council forced me to take the position of Guild master after Theo Silversong and Rin Mayou, vanished. I've had no one to lean on but my own shoulder for a while... I hate status, wealth, and the Caste system." The fairy figured that she already opened up this far, there was not much left to hide as it could be pieced together. "Honestly I think the Council was pushing for non-human wizards as they stripped me of my humanity. Literally, I was considered human five weeks ago and made no decision to change it beyond hybrid. However as soon as my mother's identity was revealed my life got way harder, I've been all but interrogate by those no good Rune Knights with nothing better to do then judge a single fairy mother-." Once again, she recalled she was speaking to the person in command of the army of Knights present.

She slowly breathed in and out as she calmed herself down. "Sorry if I said too much, I just don't got a time for a shrink and don't wanna bother my guild members with my problems when I'm supposed to look after all of theirs..." As much as Luna wanted to break down the rest of her walls and let all her emotions free, she knew that she couldn't compromise herself before the battle started. "Some days I wish I didn't get the curse lifted and I was still nothing more then just a lowly peasant."

When water runs still, Empty Re: When water runs still,

Post by Serilda Sinclair 25th June 2019, 6:19 pm

"Character counts most when duty calls."

Well, that had certainly opened up the floodgates. Luna seemed to almost visibly crumble when her obvious insecurities regarding the job were openly remarked upon. The fairy sat down and spilled out her thoughts over everything. Well, really she was spilling out nearly her entire life story. She hated death and violence because it was against her very nature and her culture. She went on from there to say how she never even wanted to be a wizard or a warrior or a guild leader at all, just wanting a small life with simple, honest goals.

The rant seemed to be a long time in coming, so Serilda didn’t interrupt the pink haired woman even a single time, just gave her full and undivided attention to respect the struggles Luna was dealing with. Even when the recently made fairy went so far as to insult nobility and the army, Serilda didn’t say anything or even get an offended look on her face. If anything, the Voidwalker was too focused on the details of the harsh reality that had been Luna’s life. The Magic Council seemed to have put quite a few burdens on her that she’d never wanted, which was more than a little concerning.

When Luna apologized again and seemed to be losing steam, Serilda knelt down next to her chair and gently took one of her hands. “You don’t need to apologize,” she told her earnestly. “I know better than most how cruel and selfish people with titles and money can be. It’s a well earned stigma that I’ve had to work really hard to avoid having put on me, and even despite my best intentions I know I haven’t been perfect. It sounds like you’ve had some real injustices thrown on you, and when all this is done I will gladly see if there is anything I can do to help you get off this career track and toward the kind of life you want.”

She meant it. Serilda did not enjoy watching people suffer, and it was not okay for Luna to have been forced into a responsibility she didn’t want and wasn’t prepared for. It wasn’t fair to her, or to the people that needed to rely on her. But for now, she needed to focus on the issue at hand. There were innocent lives on the line and if Serilda didn’t start getting the knights positioned soon they were going to be at a severe disadvantage to controlling the situation. “Please don’t take this the wrong way, but I think it’s best if you do not involve yourself in the fighting. There is more you can do here that is just as vital to what we need to accomplish that doesn’t involve compromising your principles. There are going to be a lot of injuries, and the knights that are versed in healing could use all the help they can get. Why don’t you work with them, and I’ll focus on the rest.”

Serilda was more than experience with this kind of gruesome responsibility. She had grown up with the understanding that protecting her people often required making unideal choices, including whether or not to let another person live if their existence was a danger to others around them. She didn’t like killing -- at all. But she had done it before, would do it again, and it wouldn’t drag on her as mercilessly as it would this poor woman that wanted nothing to do with this entire situation. But Serilda also understood the desire to not return to her guild empty handed or feeling like a failure. So, she thought it best to assign Luna to using what her magic was meant for: healing people and saving lives.

Once things were settled and decided, she let Luna go get prepared for that task and called the knights back into the tent. “We have a change in plans, but only slightly,” Serilda told them once everyone was gathered. “I still think Master Mira’s suggestion is the best course of action, we just need different people to carry it out. I’m thinking a two pronged strike hitting each camp separately. Have the scouts returned?”

Quaid shook his head. “Not yet, but they should be back any minute. I have a squad that is experienced with the kind of work you need done. Once we know where the bandit camps are, they should be able to handle it discreetly.”

    “Excellent. Have them prepare themselves.”

The captain nodded to one of the sergeants in the tent and they left to go see to it that the request was completed. Serilda leaned back over the map. “Ideally, we need to delay our direct involvement in the fighting as long as possible. Let these guys kill and wear themselves out so they put up less of a fight against us. But our priority is the villages. I don’t want to draw attention to ourselves prematurely, but I think it would be wise to station a group of knights closer to the villages just in case the battle starts to move that direction, then they can head it off before it reaches the civilians. Just make sure they can’t be seen, even by the villagers. I would hate to start a panic, or to tip off any bandit members that may have wandered outside their camps.”

As they stood and worked out a game plan together, the scouts eventually returned. They were able to pinpoint on the map where both of the bandit camps were. They had even managed to get their hands on a bit of equipment from each camp, which would come in handy for staging the planned set up. As they refreshed themselves with some water, Serilda and Quaid worked out the best place to drive the bandits that would keep them at a distance from the villages without compromising a Rune Knight advantage. When everything was ready and they were as prepared as they could possibly be, the troops were given their assignments and everyone was dismissed to their positions.

Vartack was ready for this battle to begin. His men had been itching to wipe out those Pyjack scum for months, and truth be told this war was a long time coming. Even before the recent events, the Buzzards had been sworn enemies of the Pyjacks since his grandfather’s time. Granted, the membership for both bandit gangs was much smaller back then as they were newly formed groups. Over the decades, they had both grown to formidable sizes. Since neither side really wanted to risk an all out battle, the cold war between them had gone on for some time, each gang progressively doing more and more things to provoke the other until everything had finally become too much to bear.

His son, Kartem, his pride and joy that was supposed to take over the reigns of the Buzzards after Vartack was ready to sit back and enjoy a life of luxury, had been killed. They had found his body displayed outside their camp in brazen fashion like a grotesque scarecrow. If it hadn’t been for his chief warriors, Vartack may have stormed the Pyjack base by himself in a fit of fury to tear them apart. But even he was not strong enough to take on an army equal in size to that of his own, and his men had managed to talk him down and steer him into a more efficient option: war. Every Buzzard was furious about their leader’s son, and vowed revenge on his behalf. They had been spending weeks preparing supplies and strategies in order to humiliate their enemies by wiping them off the face of the map entirely.

Unfortunately, the Pyjacks were also preparing for battle. The element of surprise was no longer with them, and the pressure was on to be fully prepared. Any day his enemies could beat him to the punch and get the jump on the fight, but he was determined to start it first. This was why he was floored and angered when one of his men came stumbling into the camp.

    “Sir, we have a problem.”

He looked up from sharpening his sword. “Spit it out.”

The bandit pointed outside the leader’s tent. “Several of the men are getting sick, all of a sudden. Like real sick. Throwing up, can’t control their bowels… We noticed that some of our equipment is either missing or broken, too.”

Vartack gripped his sword so hard it was a wonder it didn’t leave grooves along the metal handle. “They’re sabotaging us,” he said. Storming to his feet, the Buzzard leader told the man, “Get everyone ready, anyone who can fight. The Pyjacks are trying to whittle us down to attack us while we’re vulnerable, but we’re going to meet them head on.”

    “Yes, sir!”

The man sprinted back outside and Vartack could hear him yelling the call to arms. The sound of men and women springing into motion filled the camp, but the bandit leader was too busy putting on his armor to notice. He sheathed his sword and tied it to the belt around his waist. Reaching for his helm, he stopped as his fingers brushed over the final piece. His gaze had fallen upon the helmet that had belonged to his son, a gift he had given the lad only earlier that year to christen him as his official heir. He selected this helm instead, putting it on his head. Today, his son would be avenged. It was only right at least a part of him make it to the battle.

    Reggie was livid.

“Get these vermin under control!” he screamed. All around him, his camp was in chaos. A herd of large animals were stampeding through with no regard to who or what was in their way. The beasts were frantic like they were being chased by some large predator. They trampled everything in sight, breaking bones of people that weren’t able to get out of the way quickly enough and trashing through supplies.

This was the last think he needed. Any day now they were supposed to be going to war with the stupid Buzzard tribe, and in a matter of minutes all the preparation he’d been doing the last few weeks had been greatly hindered. He growled his frustration, turning to kick a nearby bucket in rage. What was he supposed to do now? If Vartack caught wind of this, the Buzzards would surely go on the march immediately to take advantage of the opportunity to catch them off guard. “Clean this shit up! Figure out what we lost!”

He stormed back to his tent. This was going to set them back by at least a few days, and Reggie wasn’t sure they could afford that time. His spies had told him that the Buzzards were going to be ready to move any day now. He needed to act fact if they were going to be able to meet their rivals on equal ground. Perhaps it was time for them to go raid one of the villages, again. It had been a long time since they’d had a raid, but if they targeted a weaker town it wouldn’t take too much effort.

Reggie was starting to formulate a mental plan when one of his men came in the tent. “What now?” he snapped.

“Sir, we found this just outside the camp, in the direction the stampede came from.” The man offered the Pyjack leader a small bit of cloth that had been torn from some clothes. At first, Reggie couldn’t figure out why in the world this bandit would be wasting his time with so insignificant a thing, but then he took a closer look at it.

“This is Buzzard colors,” he observed out loud, snatching the scrap and giving it a closer look. The soldier waited patiently to see what Reggie wanted to go. This was potential evidence that their enemies had caused the stampede. Or at the very least that one of their men had been near enough to witness this disaster and was heading back to their camp now to pass the news along. He was officially out of time. Vartack was probably still pissed about the death of his son, though that had only been retribution for the loss of several of Reggie’s men in a bar brawl months back. Either way, the time for war was now.

He motioned for the man to leave. “Get everyone ready. If they’re not on their way already, they will be soon. Gather what we can and prepare for battle.”

Serilda only had to wait an hour or so for the sabotage parties to return with their news. One of the rune knights that was a mage with an affinity for communicating with animals had convinced a massive herd of antelope like creatures to storm through one of the camps, injuring a number of bandits and thrashing their supplies. He had also placed some incriminating evidence nearby that wrongfully tied the deed to the Buzzards. Likewise, members of the other team had put some mild poisons in some of the food and rations, and used some of their magic to destroy an alarming number of their weapons, making it seem as though the Pyjacks had set up a secret preliminary attack to lead into the full blown war.

Both teams stayed long enough to confirm that the bandit camps were preparing for battle before rushing back to where Serilda was waiting with the knights that had yet to be dispatched to alterior waiting locations. With any luck, the timing would work out where the two armies would meet at a neutral ground in the middle of the cliffs, far enough away from the villages to not pose any kind of problem.

A couple more hours passed and the scouts returned within a few minutes of each other to report that both armies had been seen approaching. Not long after that, the war exploded. It was a horrific scene that Serilda took no pleasure in watching. Senseless battle was hardly worth watching, but the awful truth was that her strategy was condemning hundreds of criminal  lives to end today in order to protect and preserve thousands of innocent ones, including the men and women standing beside her. She owed it to those who would die today to at least witness the event and acknowledge their suffering as they went.

The battle went on for at least an hour. The air was rippling with magical energy from a few of the bandit members that happened to wield it, but thankfully neither rival had a heavy population of mages. After all, they were bandit groups not dark guilds. Most of the fighting was done by sword and fist, observed quietly from afar by the rune knights in their various positions. The knight leaders kept in contact with Serilda through enchanted pendants that allowed them to speak as though they were standing right next to one another, even though they were hundreds of meters apart. Together, they were able to monitor the progress of the battle to ensure that it never got too close to the villages.

When it started getting a little too close to the edges of the Serene Cliffs for her liking, Serilda made the call. At this point, both armies were down by at least half their men. Their leaders had yet to find one another, but they were quickly heading in the right direction and soon would clash. She had hoped that they would kill each other off a little bit more -- even with both bandit groups at half capacity, they still outnumbered the knights as a whole. But, Serilda was afraid that if they waited any longer they would start to put the villages at active risk, and she was not willing to gamble with their safety. Once she got confirmation that everyone was in formation and ready to move out, she gave the signal and the knights joined the fray…

Vartack was seeing red. The battle had gone on what felt like forever, and both sides had suffered heavy losses, refusing to give up. He was exhausted, but as much as he wanted all of this to finally be over he wanted to find Reggie so he could get proper revenge for the murder of his son. It had been infuriatingly difficult to try and locate the man in the middle of the chaos, but Vartack was determined to stay alive and to find him.

By the time the two men ran into one another, the battle had nearly spilled out of the cliffs and into the villages just outside. Not that either of them cared about this, of course. The instant their eyes locked both of them got tunnel vision and squared off with one another. Vartack was wielding a massive broadsword that he handled with both his hands. Reggie instead fought with two smaller warhammers, one in each hand. The two threw themselves at one another violently, neither of them looking to draw out the exchange any longer than was necessary. Their need for the other’s death was far too great to have room for taking any kind of slow satisfaction out of the ordeal.

Furthermore, the more they fought the quicker they realized just how much on even ground they were with one another. They went blow for blow, so locked on their opponents that they hadn’t even noticed a fresh wave of bodies join the battle. From seemingly all sides, the bandits were being swamped by rune knights stepping in and making themselves known. Even though they were outnumbered, the bandits had been fighting for an extremely long time and were on the last reserves of their energy. Meanwhile, the knights were fresh and prepared for the battle.

By the time the majority of the bandits even realized that the law enforcers had arrived, their numbers had once again been significantly reduced. They certainly continued to put up a fight, but it would be a lie to say that the knights did anything but essentially step in and slaughter the criminals. As many as they could they subdued to apprehend and bring back to Era later, but the rest they were simply killing. There was no way that they were going to be able to escort some thousand odd vagabonds back to the jails. They didn’t have enough men, and there simply wasn’t enough space in their prisons. That said, they did try to spare lives when possible, but the bandits fought very hard to keep that from happening, most of them preferring to die than be taken alive by the law.

The only two that Serilda had been instructed by the Magic Council to bring in alive at all reasonable cost was the two leaders. Since she didn’t know what they looked like, she and the knights had to resort to quick interrogations in the middle of battle as they took down some of the men. Eventually, she and Quaid were pointed toward the direction where Vartack and Reggie were duking it out. “I’ll handle the two of them,” she told the captain. “You take over with your men and see to it the rest of this war is put down.

The noblewoman approached the dueling pair and they failed to notice her. She decided to make her presence known through the means which were more likely to get their attention. Using her Voidwalking magic, she waited until they both aimed to strike at one another again and then snatched hold of their weapons, practically freezing them in place. The two jerked back as they found themselves unable to move forward without letting go of the items, and took a precious moment to stop and blink at one another in confusion.

They turned to look at her when she spoke up. “Now that I have your attention, I suggest you surrender peacefully. Those of your men that weren’t already killed by this useless slaughter are currently being finished off or arrested by the present Rune Knights. This battle is over.”

Both men scoffed at her, even as she released her hold on their weapons so they could move freely, but they did take a second to look around and confirm that she was telling the truth about the rune knight involvement. It was Vartack that spoke up first. “Stay out of this, you stuck up bitch. If the knights want to die too that’s fine by me, but this is Buzzard business. Personal business. This man,” he pointed at Reggie, “and his farce of a gang killed my boy, and I aim to get retribution.

The Pyjack leader snarled back at him. “Your boy was the revenge you ignorant jackass. Fifteen of my men were killed in broad daylight by your self righteous pack of wanna be thugs. And they weren’t the first casualties! Too long you have been murdering my people without provocation! Your son was a lesson!”

“Oh, don’t even think about trying to give me a history lesson. We all know that the Pyjacks started all this in the time of our grandfathers, with the first offense of--”

“Alright, that’s quite enough of that.” Serilda cut the argument off, no longer willing to entertain it. “I’m very sorry for both of your losses, but you had plenty of time to handle this in a less idiodic and senseless fashion. You’re both under arrest. Put down your weapons and submit yourselves to the justice of the rune knights.”

“We said stay the hell out of this, lady!” Reggie threw one of his heavy hammers straight for her head. If Serilda had not been anticipating one of them to attack, it may have hit. As it was, she raised her hand in the air and used her Voidwalking abilities to pull the weapon off its projected course, causing it to twist around and slam into its owner’s abdomen. As he doubled over in pain, Serilda calmly repositioned herself.

Vartack laughed at his enemy’s misfortune and took it upon himself to try and take the opportunity to gain leverage from it. Raising his broadsword high above his head, he swung it down, aiming to sever his enemy’s skull from his shoulders. Instead, he found his point blank aim tugged out of balance by invisible forces. Caught surprised, Reggie had enough time to raise up his other hammer and hit the bottom of Vartack’s jaw.

At this point, both men were starting to get more frustrated, realizing that if they wanted to settle their score properly they were going to have to deal with the steely woman confronting them. They shared a look that Serilda recognized well, the look of two people silently agreeing to put their differences aside for a temporary truce to deal with a mutual annoyance. As one, they turned toward her. “It’s gonna take a lot more than a few telekinetic tricks to take us down, you uppity slut.”

Having received much more colorful insults before, Serilda barely even heard the man’s words. “Well, how lucky for me that my magic is much more than telekinesis.” With the wave of her hand, both men suddenly found themselves gasping for air that their lungs refused to take in. They stubbornly fought past it for a few seconds, coming at her in a unified front to try and take her down before her suffocation spell could render them too weak to fight, but their attempts were fruitless. Both their weapons went right through Serilda’s body like it wasn’t even there,

The heiress simply stood there while they quickly tired themselves out and fell to the ground, desperate for oxygen. Drawing Moonlight, she snapped both of them hard on the temples with the pommel of her sword and knocked them out.

By the time everything was said and done, the knights had suffered a number of losses but nothing anywhere close to what they otherwise may have. Serilda sighed and looked around at the thousands of corpses around her, resisting the urge to spit out the bile that was threatening to claw its way to the top of her throat. While she’d been exposed to fighting and death en masse, she never had anywhere near this extent. It was going to take some time to clean this mess up and make sense of everything, but she knew she would rest assured that the villages had been spared and countless criminals would never threaten their homes or lives again...
